Liked the ambiance and they said their patio was dog friendly so we brought our dogs on it. However, there was horrible service. We had to ask for menus and any service at all. One of the ladies, who told us the patio was dog friendly, was extremely rude and seemed so angry our dogs were there, even though my dogs were just lying down doing nothing. Then they told us they had to close the patio doors because of the music, so when she was (finally) bringing our food she couldn't get to us as she was trying to open the door with her foot. My mom tried helping her out and she was extremely rude to my mom. She was mumbling the whole time and really sassy in her remarks. I think her name was Erin. My boyfriend and I wanted to have a relaxing night. We decided to try HH Cottons as it looked lively. We ordered wine and appetizers and felt comfortable. Then we got attacked by fruit flies. There were so many we had to cover our wine. I spent the next half hour swatting at bugs. We asked for our check. We told the waiter we were leaving because of the fruit flies. He left to get the manager. When he came back he told us the manager was working the line and gave us his card to contact him. No adjustment of the bill or anything. He proceeded to tell us that the exterminator had been out two weeks prior and the cause had been removed. He encouraged us to come again and the problem should be gone. I was appalled by the lack of customer service by the manager. Your customers are leaving because of your bug problem and you do nothing except 'contact me when I'm not busy'. We just got back from H.H. Cotton's for a St. Patrick's Day lunch with our 2 kids. It's our 4th time there and every time we have had the best experience! My husband and I have been there for date nights, and family time. Both have been great! The food is delicious and the menu provides variety for everyone. Today, my husband enjoyed "one of the best burgers he's had in a long time" and I got the grilled chicken sandwich "Bird's the Word" and made it a little more healthy in a lettuce wrap. Loved it! The kids loved their meals too! The draft beer selection is one of the best in town too! And Nick the GM is great! He shows a passion for the restaurant business and cares about his clientele. This is the second time we have been here. First time my family ended up leaving after it took over 30 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Thought we would give it another try, this time, it took over an hour for my family to get the appetizers we ordered and it wasn't busy. When we finally got the food, the order was wrong. The manger said they would comp some of the appetizers; however, when we got the bill, they did not comp anything. I have never complained about a restaurant but this place is horrible and will not be back and I leave 5 minutes from the place. Would not recommend this place, horrible service. read more

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! We were cruising down Del Mar and had heard about the brand new and happenin' H. H. Cotton's. We weren't disappointed. One of the best waitresses/bartenders we know works there now too. Her name is Bettina ("just call me B"). What a pleasure, and she's got a steel trap memory. Come in again another time and she'll greet you with your drink at your table. We quickly met at least half the fun-loving staff from Rich the savvy/very nice Manager to the exuberant servers....all seem to love their jobs and it shows in their service. The menu is truly unique and delightful. We tried the Hamilton Standard Bacon Burger and the Carolina Brisket Pile sandwiches....to LIVE FOR!! Along with the tangy and crisp hand cut seasoned fries, and a tasty side salad, we were satiated and smiling. Nice pour on our Gin and Tonics too I might add. We've only been once, but we WILL be back. Directly across from Beach Fire and a few doors from Nick's, this place is centrally located and should be VERY busy all year long. It sits on a corner and the windows open on two sides for great "people watching" OR you can opt to sit outside and join the crowd. Gotta try this place!! read more

I've been here twice. The service has been awesome both times. The veggie burger was a little salty (not enough to make me not want to eat it, but they could cut back), and the vegetarian options are lacking. Everyone at my table both times have been happy with the food. The atmosphere is great and the service for the food was quick. My main complaint would be the bar. My drink took forever, and you could tell it was annoying the servers. When I finally got my drink (old fashioned), it was not good at all. Watered down and very bitter. My husband, daughter and I have lived here for over 2 years and never eaten at this restaurant before. We wanted to try something different since he deploys soon, so I looked around and found HH Cottons. The menu looked good so we headed over. We were offered a table right away and there was maybe 2 others in the restaurant at that point. The first waitress got our drinks, then I guess she got busy because another came by 15 minutes later to get our order. I ordered the chicken sandwich, my husband ordered the Longhorn burger and my daughter the chicken strip kids meal. It took the food forever to be served. My chicken sandwich was mediocre, my husband's burger was over powered by the brisket on top, which we are guessing was left over from yesterday. We powered through and finally got the bill...$72 with the standard 15% tip for a lunch that wasn't wonderful and service that was less than. It was a shame as we had high hopes that we found a new go-to place to eat. read more

H H Cotton's has room for improvement. Food was 'meh', service was 'meh'. As far as their restaurant is concerned, they will need to step it up to compete with the neighboring restaurants next door on Del Mar. As far as the service, so much is lacking! Staff should be better managed and trained. The bar was large and the extensive beer tap selection was nice. We will give them another chance in a few months perhaps when they have their kinks worked out. We were expecting so much more! read more

My girlfriend and I came here for brunch on Sunday. I was very please with the visual appeal. Everything is so clean and sharp! The bartenders we charismatic and the food was great. HH Cottons is a great new addition to downtown San Clemente! We have been watching and waiting for it to open for some time now and were so excited to try it out! The ambiance and decor is so San Clemente (thus the name!!). The reclaimed wood on all the walls and the signs naming surf spots and beaches along our city's coastline all give HH Cottons a great beachy feel to it. Being a new restaurant, they will have a few hiccups, but overall, our drinks, beer and food were all pretty darn good. The serrano margarita had a great kick to it and the 2 burgers we had were great (truffle fries??? Yes please!!!). Service staff was great and very attentive to our needs. My only complaint was that it is very loud inside. I'm not sure if it was because of the cement floors or maybe they just need more noise insulation. But it was a fun atmosphere and we enjoyed it very much. So glad you are here HH Cottons! read more

I always knew San Clemente was a place close to God's heart but the extent to which He has answered our prayers for more delicious AND healthy food restaurants when H H Cotton moved into the neighborhood has absolutely BLOWN ME AWAY! We went there for the first time last night, it may have been their first open night but you would have NEVER known it. The staff without exception was welcoming, warm, authentic, attentive and always helpful. Our server Leann was no exception...it's been a long time since I can say "it was a pleasure meeting her" and all the staff!! The food was definitely the highlight. We had the flatbread of the evening. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! The amazing cheese, spinach and pepperoncini combination was new to me but brought to mind the movie Ratatouille...when the perfect combination of flavors just fills every sensation from taste, scent, looks... perfectly!! We added the Caesar Wedge Salad which they served with a warm soft boiled egg, amazing croutons and the best dressing ever...another mouthful of buttery goodness that I will not soon forget! We wrapped the evening with the Mexican Crème Brule, not my favorite thing but very good and the homemade Dulce de Leche Ice Cream...I wouldn't miss it they have it. So we got here and waited. Hostess was nice. Sat us in the back. They did not have any beers they said they did on top due to running out per wait the waitress said. Beer list should be updated if they are going to have a beer list. Our beer list was dated 2/27 ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and was nothing special. They forgot to bring the side of avocado. Boyfriend ordered fried chicken sandwhich. Was good. The problem was that employees were eating in dinnig room right next to us! HH Cottons is a fun environment to hang out in. It is a perfect location and on the corner of san clemente! However, the service is very odd and the environment of the restaurant between servers seems to be filled with tension and it shows through when I am being served. This restaurant seems as though it is running on thin wire. Hopefully they figure out this problem because I would enjoy going back if they did, otherwise higher some nicer servers. read more

I came here with high expectations and had talked my husbands ear off about how great it was. I had come with a group of friends on a prior occasion and the food and service were five star!! This time‍ it was horrible!! I wasted my birthday lunch on mediocre food. My husband didn't even receive his food the service was slow I've seen a sloth move faster than him. He didn't care about the missing food. I have two minions so we always sit and order right away. 35 minutes later we get my kids food and part of my food and no food for the hubs hangry husband a no go sorry this place is so poorly run on a busy Saturday afternoon. Nick, one of the owners, stopped by our table and inquired about our food and overall experience. He actually sat down at our booth with us and spent 5-8 minutes speaking about the history of this new establishment and overall history of this great beach location. We anxiously awaited the opening of this restaurant, and waited a few days before trying. We approached the hostess station at 5:00 on a week day, stoked to be trying the new del Mar contender. Four employees were engaged in a conversation and didn't take notice that we were standing there. Finally a different server appeared and took us to the dining area, empty, where we requested a booth. We were told those were reserved for parties of four or more. No problem, rules are rules, we took a high top. Ordered drinks. Then food; decided to go for gourmet burger. Surprised that the server did not ask how I wanted the burger prepared. I then asked if it could be prepared rare, he said yes. While we were waiting, a couple (2) was seated at a booth...rules change I guess...food arrived. Fries great. Burger was grey, not even pink, bummer for great meat. New place, working out the bugs, will try again, hoping for better. read more

Came here for the first time in the early in the afternoon to avoid the dinner rush. The server greeted us promptly and let me have a taster of a beer I wanted to try (pretty good selection on tap). Atmosphere was good, liked the look of the place. It's very open, so noise carries. I asked the server which of two salads she liked best & she said honestly she hadn't tried either. During training for the opening the servers didn't try all the food so they could speak to it when asked? Weird. I ordered the chop salad. It was drowning in dressing - order dressing on the side! My boyfriend ordered the chili burger. He was happy & the fries were really good. Overall, good place to come for drinks, not sure I'd recommend this place for dinner to a friend. I give one star because there is no option for zero stars. This was my second time eating here and this time was not good. My burger was missing pickles which are my favorite part and it was not cooked properly. My wife asked for a side of corn and got a side of potatoes. We brought our friends here and we had to stop our waiter for refills because she wouldn't stop in and check on us. Last time I was here the manager walked by several times and asked how we were doing and this time there was no manager walk by. This place has changed already. Stopped in last night for a bite. I was underwhelmed by the menu...it could definitely use some tweaking. I'd love to see more salad options. I ordered the beet salad and added brisket. The salad was good and I enjoyed that. The brisket however was dry, fatty and had little to no taste. It was sliced so thin that it was the consistency of cardboard and OH SO dry. My partner had a sandwich which he enjoyed,and he also enjoyed the side salad. read more
