The store is eh has a nice variety of things. Kind of small compared to other locations. Cashiers dont bag your items beyond frustrating and rude if possible go to the queens location or Westchester. Queens location is huge unbelievable customer service and they bag your items. If we have to bag our own items they should have self check out. read more

Hmm thought I reviewed this Hmart a long time ago, apparently not--convenient spot to drop by for Korean and Asian groceries, pricier than other Asian groceries though pretty decent selection for the size of the store. Sitting on the northeast edge of Astor Place, this location feels slightly larger than the K-town location, or maybe just because it's usually less crowded. Walking into the store, the fresh produce section with vegetables and fruits greets you, followed by refrigerated items like kimchi, rice cakes, tofu, chilled drinks, dairy. Around the corner are hot and packaged foods, including various duk (sweet rice cakes), baked goods, bowls and bentos to go. They've add a section in the past couple years with boxes of Korean fried chicken (kfc) from bb.q Chicken*. Next to that is a coffee and tea station where they carry pre-brewed MUD coffee and bags of roasted coffee beans by several brands. Directly ahead from the coffee station is the frozen section with everything from frozen dumplings, Korean savory/sweet pancakes, seafood, noodles and dessert, to stuffed plushy animals in the center of the frozen display (interesting place to put those). To the left towards the front of the store are aisles for bath and home goods, dryer packaged foods like noodles and snacks, they have about 2 aisles just dedicated to ramen, perfect for NYU college students on the prowl for a snack. The store is pretty clean overall well organized. Have to say they are sticklers for bringing in outside food/drinks, I think they could be a little more understanding of this especially since certain days recently have been frigid conditions outside. I came in bc the windchill was doing a number on my fingers and also to pick up a couple grocery items. While I was walking around with a nearly empty small cup of matcha latte and drinking it bc it was getting cold, they made announcements a couple times asking that no outside products could be consumed in the store. Like I get it if they were a restaurant, I wouldn't entertain the idea, but they are a supermarket with no extra space to serve or eat meals within the store. They didn't say their own internal products could not be consumed within the store so I'm assuming a concern for spills was not the motivation behind the announcement. It felt petty since a quarter of the people walking around Manhattan are holding some type of beverage in their hands, and it wasn't like I brought outside food and was having a meal. They could've been a little more understanding since the windchill was -15 degrees outside. *this fast casual kfc restaurant has several locations in the NJ/NY area. This is a smaller H Mart located near St. Mark's Place. Very easy to get to via bus or train. They sell a variety of products from produce, snacks, home ware, drinks, frozen and prepared foods. I got a honey garlic boneless chicken from the hot foods section. There was also wings. The chicken was flavorful and can definitely taste the honey garlic but not overpowering. Staff is around or restocking if assistance is needed. Checkout is quick. I do prefer the bigger H Mart's around and outside the city, but this one works if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

It's lovely to window shop and shop at H Mart on Third Avenue. The manager's specials are a draw for me as often these are what I want. This time I bought leek dumplings and spring roll skins. Occasionally when the price is low I buy scallions but a bunch for $2.99 was a shock. I like to look at each aisle to see what produce is there and to educate myself on how Koreans eat. The toiletries and many of the soft drinks are in Korean and it's difficult at times to figure out what is what. For such a store the aisles filled with all kinds of snacks is incredible. The employees who work here are personable. If my bags are stuffed it helps that the bus stop is in front of H Mart. read more

the Korean supermarket is stocked with a lot of different Asian food goods. the actual space is fairly small for a supermarket BUT it doesn't feel like that bc the store is really well organized and has so many items shelved neatly. beyond behind really clean and well-maintained, the store consistently stocks items and brands and rarely is "out" of anything no matter the time of day or night. there is also a fair amount of Asian-centric kitchen ware close to checkout. the store has a good energy vibe and the employees are pleasant and helpful. 'Sides H Mart always has Japanese KitKats in stock which is a plus in my book for any grocery spot. read more

I've been meaning to check out this H Mart since they opened! Very impressed by the size and variety of products / sections and curations of items!!! I was pleasantly surprised by how many items and sections they were able to fit into this store given its in Manhattan! They have produce section, an expansive huge selection of kimchi / prepared dishes, full cases of fresh desserts / salads, fresh cut fruits / mochis, they even have a whole area dedicated to fried chicken (BBQ chicken), bread, cake/mochi, and hot food. An aisle of dishes & utensils. Aisles and aisles of snacks and condiments. And finally a whole big wall of ramen! The frozen fridge areas are impressive too - the ice cream selections gave me some serious decision paralysis! I want everything! The aisle/spacing is bit narrow and could get a bit crammed. It's hard to fit more than one person. That's totally understandable though - gotta optimize that real estate space to fit all the goodies! This location has recently established a mask ban and told a disabled friend of mine that they will be escorted out by security if they enter wearing a mask. It is absolutely appalling to hear that they would endanger their customers in this fashion (and rather ironic really, considering how common it is to wear a mask when sick or immunocompromised in Korea). Who are they to decide whether someone has a medical need to mask based on appearance alone? HMART was one of my favorite places to shop, but they won't be receiving a single cent from me anymore. read more

I'm in love with this H-Mart, although some items are more expensive than other H-Marts but it's understandable since it's in a prime location. Fruits and vegetables are very fresh. The store is very clean. There's no fresh seafood or meat, just frozen. Excellent variety of frozen food like dumplings (there's literally a whole wall of it), buns, pancakes, noodles, etc. every turn into H-mart leads a surprise with goodies. Amazing instant noodle aisle and snacks aisle. Btw: look for the manager special; they're great savings! read more

I get Korean 7-Eleven vibes upon visiting this new H-Mart location in the East Village. I usually come here for their fresh produce or for some of their cooked food items. They have a large variety of chips and ramen! You'll also find a variety of some cooking ingredients, appliances, ice cream, beauty products, cookware, fresh bread, etc. there's a "standing" area where you can eat your food facing the streets. Lines nice fast whenever i go, so not sure about the usual crowds. Their prices are fair enough. I do see a few products I can get cheaper in a chinese market if you know where to look. read more

Wow, now this is how you build out an Hmart, the most impressive I've seen in awhile. I was surprised how fresh and wonderful their produce and fruits were, at their solid and cleanly packaged meats, and at how much stuff they managed to cram in here without being suffocating - perhaps in thanks to the good lighting, colorful signs, and good layout. There are much bigger and well-known supermarkets in the area with sadder looking "fresh" items laying around. They have several good banchan/side dish/ready-to-eat sections, some by the kimchi section and others by the K-chicken kitchen. The bakery is looking good and there are seemingly long stretches of easy-to-prepare refrigerated, frozen, and ready-to-eat packaged foods and hand-made dishes. If only I had a larger fridge instead of a small one in my humble studio kitchenette! Only sad thing is that Hmarts in Manhattan still doesn't participate in their rewards/loyalty program. Get with the program, guys! They also have a ton of great premium - both instant and even refrigerated - ramyun/ramen in their store. It wasn't too crowded when I went on a slow Sunday afternoon, but I also think they can better label and prepare their checkout lines for when it does get packed. Other than that, this place has a lot of promise and is absolutely miles better than the old one in Koreatown. If Hmart as a brand gets better at marketing with authenticity (instead of having that cold and clinical, Asian-corporation vibe), connects with locals instead of just major Asian-American celebrities and brands, and improve their customer service and return policy to match those of powerhouses nearby, I truly believe this niche supermarket can explode mainstream! Good job team, someone really thought this through and I'm hoping to see more Hmarts in Manhattan like this in the future! read more

The new H Mart in the East Village is pretty sweet and here to fill the void m2m left when they closed. Spacious and tidy aisles reminiscent of supermarkets in the suburbs. I'm totally like a kid in a candy store at an asian supermarket. Several fridges packed to the brim with dozens of varieties of dumplings? Check. An entire aisle dedicated to asian chips, which include Korean Doritos and the classic, funky shrimp chips? Check. Japanese mascara, socks, and pans in another aisle? They know how to give the people what they want! I've been going to the 32nd st location for years, and that one's so much more cramped than this one. This new location even has a bakery section and what looks to me like a hot food section (wasn't set up when I went). Prices are pretty high, especially if you're comparing to Asian markets in the outer boroughs or even to Trader Joes. But considering a lot of their food is probably imported, I guess this is to be expected. I know I'll definitely be returning many more times for my banchan and dumpling needs. read more

The tiniest H Mart I have ever been to. Everything is compact and the aisles are cramped. The prices are a bit higher compared to other Asian markets. There was no fresh seafood or meat, just frozen, which is disappointing. This location just seems to be filled with premade food and other kinds of junk food like Pocky and candy. The only thing going for this location of H Mart is its convenient location. There's no bathroom for customers. What a great idea for H Mart to open its location in East Village where there is an abundance of hungry college students who would be shopping there. You would find a wide range of frozen food items as well as those that are perfect for your hot pot nights. Different brands and types of dumplings, noodles, ice cream, mochi, drinks, you name it. There are also household items such as rice cookers, shampoo, kitchen and laundry supplies so pretty much anything you need for your dormitory life. There are fresh fruits and bakery sections too. I was there early am and it looks like there will be hot food items available soon. I'm a regular at H Mart and am so glad to find one that's at a convenient location. Happy shopping! read more

The prices here are similar to the ones in Long Island City due to inflation and the pandemic. When I entered, I saw that they have tteokbokki spicy rice cake, which was too spicy for me. Just to be clear that this H Mart is solid for Manhattan, but in other parts of the country, it would be considered small and lacking. As you enter, there is a security guard who sprays hand sanitizer on you. It does give you the feeling like big brother is always watching though. The store is very small, so when it's crowded with people, it can be hard to maneuver through the tiny aisles. Produce: Fresh with multiple options. They don't have every single Asian vegetable you might need, but they do have all the major ones. Prices are on the more expensive side though Bakery/Pre-made Food: Haven't bought anything from here, but there seems to be a good selection of options in that area Frozen Food: They have multiple dumpling options, as well as, frozen noodles and buns. Alas, I couldn't find any frozen taro buns amongst the offerings Ramen: entire aisle worth of ramen! They do sell individual packs (at a slightly higher price), so you can try before committing. When I heard H Mart was opening right outside my workplace and soon, I was so excited and happy. Hearing it opened over the weekend made Monday an extra special day to come in to. Since it is still freshly opened, they still appear to be in the process of tidying up and getting things in place, but what they do have is a beautiful sight to see. They appear to have very much everything you could need for Korean groceries, and the fact that I can access this without having to travel out of my way is so exciting (finding a place with lots of Korean groceries near me was something I missed a lot). Everything looks so nice and clean, and it remains to be seen how much it stays that way, but now I finally understand why people get excited for grand openings of stores. They have walls absolutely stacked with different varieties of Korean ramen, aisles stuffed to the brim with snacks and chips, freezers full of dumplings, ice cream, and Korean pancakes, a shelf wallpapered with curry mixes, all the rice and chili paste you could ever need, produce with some of the brightest and most buff tomatoes, a shrine of the ever delicious banana flavored milk, and so much more. There is also a section in the back where they are opening a Korean chicken restaurant, and they also have ready to eat food, including kimbap and spicy rice cakes. I normally fast throughout the day until I get home, but if this food is as good as I hope, I may end up breaking it. Note that while I am emphasizing Korean products, they do also have their fair share of Japanese and Chinese products, but the emphasis here is definitely on Korean. I do have a few minor gripes. The first is I was not able to locate any soondae (Korean blood sausage). I don't know if this will appear in the future or if I missed it (very possible, there was so much to see), but that would definitely be the fast breaker for me. The second is when I checked out, they only gave me half of my receipt. But to their credit, I think they were just as excited about the opening as I was, and I will forgive them if they stay open and continue to provide their wide array of lovely items. If you are near the area and are considering checking it out, I would definitely recommend you do so! It was surprisingly empty when I went in at around 1:25 PM, but this may be due to the fact it was raining, and perhaps the target demographic were in class. Unlike other stores you may have been in, it is spacious enough that crowding and tight squeezes will be less of an issue. UPDATE: I returned the following day to look around more carefully, and found they do have soondae, but only in the freezer! Still hoping they start offering ready to eat ones. read more

This H Mart is my favorite one among all the locations. I don't know why each time I came here, I felt so proud of being an Asian, eating well and being happy. Maybe it's because of the good vibes here - always so neat, so clean, and full of energies with a bakery on-spot and a mini café. My favorite things here are the pre-marinated meat or pre-arranged casseroles. They are very easy to be cooked at home and taste like what you will order at an Asian restaurant. I also like the wide variety of Asian snacks here, not only from Korea, but also from Japan, China and other Asian countries.
