Absolutely the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. You would think that being the first ones there that everything would be fresh. ..: NOPE! First, everything was served on flimsy paper plates, so the grease soaked through immediately. We ordered the fish and chips combo with prawns, plus fried zucchini and fried mushrooms. Every single item was so excessively greasy that I could still taste the oil in my mouth afterward. It was honestly disgusting. To make matters worse, the inside of the restaurant was filthy. The area around the trash cans was covered in dirt and grime, which made me question the overall cleanliness of the kitchen. I genuinely don't understand all the five-star reviews. Good fried fish. Not a dine in place, just a fry kitchen and take out counter inside a small location in a strip mall. A few chairs for waiting. They were busy on a Friday during Lent, and I noticed the counterman telling phone in customers , "Call back in 30 minutes" as they had a lot of walk in customers. They told me 20 minutes when I ordered (so I had a chance to back out) but glad I waited. Bookmarked on my I-5/I-405/CA 118 list of good places a few blocks off the freeway. For a very small business and an owner who is there every day cooking the same food every day he can be pleasant if you are nice, respectful and generous to the man who sometimes seems a bit grumpy. Why is it so hard to find H Salt in LA?! Seriously underrated fast food fish and chips - greasy, deep fried, and delicious, just like fish and chips should be. Fish and chips is NOT some classy dish that needs to be plated on a fancy bed of greens and served with five forks - all you need is a cheap cardboard container to keep the oil from hitting your pants, and lots and lots of tartar sauce. I've only ever had the fish and chips - it's right in the fucking name! Why get anything else? Consistently good quality and size for the price. It's gone up a few bucks, but so has everything. Oh well. Shitty economy is shitty. Get over it. The place itself could do with a good scrubbing and a fresh coat of paint - would probably appeal to more people if it cleaned itself up a bit. I have loved H Salt for as long as I can remember. I've had fish and chips at high end restaurants and gastropubs, but H Salt remained my favorite fried fish. Their fries have never been good... but their tartar sauce is amazing! Put it on everything! We don't make it to H Salt very often. The shape and size of the fish fillets have changed over the years. It is no longer a thick, long rectangle. It is thinner and a triangle. That's fine. I still want my fish! However, the last time I went (filled with anticipation for the upcoming deliciousness) I was horribly disappointed. The fish was fried to death! the small end of the triangle was so overcooked that it was inedible. It was like cardboard or plastic. AND THIS STUFF IS NOT CHEAP! I called to ask what happened. I wanted them to tell me that there was some sort of human error that made this a one-time problem. He could not give me a reason. So now, I worry that it will always be this bad. Is it just the way the fish is cut now? Is it just this location or ALL H Salts? The man on the phone offered to make me more, but I could not get back to the restaurant until after they closed. I accidently ordered from this location through DoorDash when I meant to order from the Reseda location which DoorDash apparently does not serve. Anyway the food arrived cold which I blame more on DoorDash than I do the restaurant. Fortunately the fish & chips and the fried zucchini stayed crisp after a minute in the microwave. Basic old-school British-inspired fish & chip shop, transported from London. The only fish on offer is pollock fillets, served in a decent batter. Quite good. Chip shop chips should be quite like American steak fries, cooked from fresh potatoes. Unfortunately, they serve skinnier French fries, likely frozen, overcooked to the point that many were burnt to the point of being inedible. A big disappointment. read more

So, when I was driving around San Fernando and spotted this location, I knew I had to stop by and try it out for myself. When you walk in, make sure you also look at the menu to your left because there are more items there than on the menu above the counter. I ordered the two piece fish and chips and a side a la carte of the fried oysters. The fish was a nice size and they gave about an average amount of fries. The fries were a little over done, but still okay. The oysters were tasty and not too "bready." The place does look a little run down and could use a deep, DEEP cleaning. Everything except fries was so overcooked, very greasy and had a bad smell that it was disgusting to have in our kitchen much less to eat. Hard to believe so many good reviews.
