I really don't like leaving reviews like this, especially because I love Cocos, but communication with customers and the kitchen needs serious improvement. On June 24 I was told at 10am that they were going to make banana cream pies, the woman on the phone, even checked with the kitchen to make sure that they would guarantee that they would be there after 4 o'clock. She came back and said that the kitchen confirmed that they would be making them for the evening. I want to note that she didn't do anything wrong. She was really professional and went above and beyond to make sure. This was for a birthday and the person it was for had fond memories with this pie, which is why I wanted to get it for him. I want to note that I called a week before and was told that by Wednesday they should have the pies that there's no reservations (which I understand), but to call the day of and I did. It was a good thing that I called before the commute because a man answered the phone and said that they didn't have any and then he went to check with the kitchen. He said that there were no banana cream pies, and that they would not be making them he didn't even offer rectify the situation despite being told that this was a guarantee that they would be made that evening. I understand that these things can't be reserved, but it is not a good business practice to guarantee something to a customer and then waste their time. It wasn't even that they ran out, I would not be writing this review if it was because they ran out of stock. It was that they didn't even make what they guaranteed and wasted valuable time. I wounded up getting a cake last minute at Porto's Bakery instead and the result was much better. I would like to talk to a manager rectify the situation, but as it stands right now, I was not offered any rectification. read more

Well, we went into this Coco's thinking we'd be disappointed but let me say, our server Kim made all the difference!!! We had both Coco's close in Santa Clarita and this is the closest one and we had business in the area today, so we gave it a shot for old time sake. We specifically ordered breakfast the way we like it and Kim was very helpful dialing us in and everything came out perfect ( thank you too Mr Cook ). Don't think we didn't want a pie to-go after, but we could not keep it cool during todays traveling. Popped in to Coco's for Pi Day (March 14th) and was thankful they still had a lot of pies to get! The strawberry cheese pie was amazing - it's sort of like a creamy cheesecake with giant strawberries on top. Highly recommend! We ordered for takeaway so I didn't get much of a chance to experience the service or ambiance but it seemed nice and I'll definitely be back to dine-in in the future. read more

Location 4: On the West side of Sepulveda Blvd in Mission Hills, California, just North of the 118 freeway. Plenty of free parking on the premises. Venue 3: Older Coffee Shop/Bakery. Plenty of indoor tables and booths. No outdoor seating. They do not take reservations so be prepared to be waiting a while on weekend mornings as they are quite popular for weekend breakfast/brunch. Service 3: Friendly and polite but in our case slow and not very attentive. Food 3: Breakfast and lunch/dinner served all day. Coffee shop food, plus bakery goods (breads, pies, cookies, muffins and croissants). You can also purchase whole pies and other bakery goods to take home. At the risk of sounding cliché, I remember the food being better before ;) This time, we had the Breakfast Burrito, the Brioche Eggs Benedict, the Pacific Omelet and the Sirloin Steak and Eggs. I am sorry to say that none were memorable. The food took forever to arrive. And after all the wait, our medium steak arrived almost rare. Drinks 3: Coffee, soft drinks and shakes. This time we all had the drip coffee which was about average. The Last Word 4: I have fond memories of Coco's and this makes me want to go back from time to time for the nostalgia, but I am sad to say that realistically there are better options out there. Today my daughter purchased a whole banana cream pie, to go. When I opened the box, I could see that the pie looked old and stale. The topping that's supposed to be fresh whipped cream, was hardening and separating from the pie tin. After cutting into the pie, I saw that the topping was curdled. There were absolutely no bananas to be found in the pie. this pie had obviously been stored for a very long time.. So, I can't believe that the staff member who packaged & sold the pie to my daughter, thought it was ok to do so. This is extremely concerning, as the management and staff obviously are not taking proper safeguards to protect customers from food bourne illness. There is clearly a lack of management oversight. This location has been open for decades. I personally have Stopped going there for a very long time; due to the overall decline of quality and cleanliness. My daughter is from out of town. She stopped by on her way to visit. I strongly urge others to avoid this place. I wish I could rate this "zero stars". We went there for dinner on pie day. We ordered the sliders. They were okay and sirloin steak. The first one was over done....we ordered it medium .... it was well done and we couldn't chew it. They gave us another one and it was totally different. Very soft and juicy. This has happened before. The waiters are always happy to replace it. Why does this always happen? They need to have handicapped parking in front. I have trouble walking. My husband has to drop me off and go park if there isn't a space in front. Then he has to get the car and get me. Also, the waiters tell us to let them know if we need anything and then they disappear and we can't find them. I love Coco's and always have since I was a child. My parents and I would take my grandma and uncle every Sunday after church and it was always delicious! Sad to see that most of them have closed now and that this is the only one left. Came by with my mom for breakfast this morning since her doctor's appointment got cancelled. Staff were super friendly but this place is super run down. Dirty floors as soon as you enter and there was a giant dead cockroach by the entrance this morning. Sooooo nasty!! Glad I saw it on my way out or else I probably would've lost my appetite. The menus are super beat up to the point where the bottom is ripping off. They have some discontinued items I guess, that were covered with a white address label. Overall though the food was amazing. Probably the best buttered sourdough toast I've ever had and love how well the omelette and potatoes were cooked. I believe our waitress' name was Kim, Vietnamese I think, she was so lovely and super patient with us. She came by to make sure our food was good and if we needed anything else. My boyfriend and I go in for breakfast (he's on crutches). they sit us in the main walkway, we put the crutches beside us on the floor. They ask for our drink and my water had a HAIR. Was too disgusted to take a picture just asked for it to be taken away. We already ordered food so we didn't leave... They later on tell us we have to put the crutches on the side on top of ac, making us and our food colder. I got cinnamon French toast that hardened from getting cold. I Barley touched my food. Its fairly big like most Cocos and maintained ok. There are a lot of different types of pies in the display case. Thats why we stopped by, for some pie. Our server was nice and you could see she was attentive to her customers and helpful. I got the chocolate cream pie. It was sweet and the crust was flakey. The whip cream on top was a bit hardened. One of the most comforting bakery/restaurant chains I've ever been to! Even though the outside is a bit outdated, once you step inside, the comforting feeling of a classic 90s diner comes back to you. Even going on a Saturday wasn't busy or overwhelming like most other restaurants. Food portions were surprisingly generous and our server was one of the nicest men I've interacted with. The food was delicious. I ordered the Triple Mega Breakfast. I must say that my eyes were hungrier than what I thought. I also ordered a cinnamon roll. It was decent that it killed the craving of having to go to cinnabon. Overall taste was good and I will probably order it again in the future. ' It's convenient. Can't order Thanksgiving pues on the phone or online. You ah e to personally go in and prepay. Ok- did that. The day of pickup the man at the register was so rude and really looked very unhappy with his job. The ladies were all trying to do their best - it wasn't crazy busy either, I've worked in restaurants all my life so I know what being slammed in foodservice is and this wasn't it- As other people have mentioned, the place has not been updated for years and looks very run down but loyal customers and community members still come in (we've been customers since 1989). I am willing to overlook the need of upgrades for good service and good tasting food. But unfortunately the service is horrible as well. This place is literally disgusting! The floors are filthy, the bathroom floors were so dirty and gross with dead bugs smashed on the floor. Then as I walking through the dining room I seen cockroaches on the floor!! What the heck?! How are they even open for business? I haven't been to Coco's in years. I used to go to the Tarzana branch before where the Black Bear Diner is now. I like the location of this being accessible and a lot of parking lot. Not that much inside the restaurant though. It needs a revamp but maybe that's what attracts the older clientele. It reminds them of the good old days. My SO and I were seated right away when we stopped by for breakfast. Food - Lumberjack's. It didn't keep up to par. The French toast was bone dry. - Homestyle Breakfast. It would have been a better choice, simpler and cheaper. My SO liked it. Our food came out surprisingly fast. And when we are almost finished, the server came and left the check saying "No Hurry". I went in around 8pm for a few slices of pie and got home very disappointed. Not only were they tiny slices but 2 of 3 looked like they were just packed in without a thought. The banana cream pie was the worst. That one looked like it was just dropped into the container and they called it a day. I've heard great things from this place and I didn't check what they gave me, so that's on me. My favorite diner in the Valley! I've been there several times and never disappoints. Salad, burgers, sandwiches, pies, breakfast plates...everything is solid and the price is super fair given that the portions are huge. The tables are always clean and our server, a friendly old lady, gives the best service, never mistakes the orders, even when we are in a big group.
