    Polar Bear Feast
    Aaron D.

I was brought here by someone who had fond memories of this place and they have been waiting for years to bring me. Let's just get into the good, bad, and everything in between. There is plenty of seating, and it's nice and warm inside. Which was great on this cold and rainy January night! They have two large TVs in the back room so I got to catch the game while we ate. The baked beans were pretty decent. The sauce, on point. They sell it by the bottle, worth picking some up. The servers were polite and attentive as well! And that's where it ends unfortunately. I got the 'Polar Bear Feast'. Spare ribs with your choice two additional meats and 3 sides. I also ordered a side of mac n' cheese. For the price you really can't beat that! I ordered the beef and pork. But it just fell flat. The food came out and it was lukewarm. Like barely above room temp. I gave it my best but I had to say something. The spareribs were ok. Nothing to write home about. And I'm from Missouri, lol. They took the food away to make it right and when they brought it back I realized that they just microwaved it or something. Maybe put it under a heat lamp. Whatever they did the plate was now hot and the meat had dried out. I tried one more bite and was like "This isn't worth the carbs." The mac 'n cheese was runny and really kinda lacking flavor. The person I was with got the brisket sandwich and potato salad. That was great! I had a small bite and wish I had gone that route! And the potato salad, best I've had in a while. I did order the brisket sandwich to go. It comes with two sides so I doubled up on the potato salad. I certainly did want to like this place, took an hour to get here. If you do visit, get the brisket sandwich and potato salad.

I ordered the steak and baby back ribs. Honestly, the steak was cooked well, but it lacked flavor. The ribs were so dry that the outer layer was too hard to chew and the rib meat was dried to the bone. One of my sides was a cup of chili beans, which was absolutely disgusting. It was so salty that I can't imagine anyone enjoying it. I also had a side salad, which was good. Oh! And the bread looked amazing but was chewy and the potato salad was from a tub from a container . I ordered hoping I would have leftovers for work, but I ended up leaving most of the food on the plate, minus the side salad and steak, which, like I said, wasn't too bad. It's not what I expected or what I remember from the place I used to go to years ago. I won't ever be going back, but on the bright side, the staff was nice

The Bear Pit BBQ has been a staple restaurant in our family for as long as I can remember. Things have changed over the years, but they still provided excellent service. The restaurant still has the same decor & paintings on the walls that I loved so much as a child. The menu is generally the same, with a few additions/changes. The first thing both myself & my brother said when we walked in was "there's no more sawdust..." growing up that is how our parents/grandparents knew what restaurant we were talking about when we requested to eat at the place with the sawdust on the floor. The fried taters aren't as good as I remember them being as a kid, but I just believe I have outgrown the fascination of them. I ordered the Grizzley Bear Combo; which included 2 BBQ meats & 3 sides of your choice. I have always been a fan of their BBQ Turkey. My brother got the Lamb Sandwich on Garlic Toast & my Boyfriend got the Bear Pit Cubbies; one pork, one beef one turkey. They serve each table with a cold plate of carrots, pickles, celery & Peppers; we ordered a side of taters and ALWAYS get the Shirley BBQ Sauce. We even got a bottle of sauce to go. It has been over 4 years since the last time I visited the area so taking some home with me was a must. The Bear Pit will always hold a special place in my heart and bring back so many memories. Things haven changed over the years but their food is still delicious and their service is great.

Nothing special. Brisket sandwich tastes cheap. Meat was not juicy, no fat, not special. Missouri style sauce is too vinegary and doesn't hold a candle to Baby Rays sauce. 3 pieces of garlic bread was $7. Baked beans was ok, same vinegary sauce base. Potato salad came from Vons. Service was passing. Didn't check up on me. Bear ambiance is cute, dated, but still ok. I'm in no hurry to come back.

We were in the mood for BBQ and hubby suggested Bear Pit BBQ. The food: it looked great, full restaurant seemed to be enjoying their meal. We ordered Spare Ribs with tots and coleslaw and Baby Back/Chicken combo with mashed potatoes and potato salad. Everything looked amazing, the bbq sauce was mouthwatering...and then we took our first bites. Something was definitely off with the meat. It wasn't rancid or spoiled but it didn't taste right. Maybe low quality meat, I don't know. The salads were good, the garlic bread was ok. The ambiance was nice. Busy, upbeat place, kind staff but for $80 I'll pass.

Service is wonderful when it is not too busy. Barbecue is so awesome :) It is really have its history as well. So my aunt finally came back here to eat. That old american diner vibe is so nice.

My husband and I like to come here with hid family once in a while to enjoy some bbq: we always get the Kodiak with the spare ribs. He likes to get lamb while I get the beef. The original bbq sauce was wonderful. The fries could use some seasoning but overall the service was good and the food was tasty. The ambiance is casual and is family-friendly. They have their own parking lot and they've been in the valley for years.

    Farewell Bear Pit Bar-B-Q Restaurant.
    Frank Enstein ..

A Misadventure at The Bear Pit Bar-B-Que The Decision It all began with a simple question: where to go for lunch today? Despite a suggestion from Frankenstein for chili dogs and chili cheese fries at the Munch Box in Chatsworth, the Bride of Frankenstein was having none of it. Frankenstein stupidly suggested The Bear Pit Bar-B-Que. It had been a while since they visited this nostalgic Valley BBQ spot, a place laden with memories of family gatherings and decent BBQ. The Expectations vs. Reality Frankenstein knew not everything at The Bear Pit Bar-B-Que was a hit. A cautious voice in his mind recommended the BBQ Ham Sandwich on Garlic Toast. But the Bride of Frankenstein bravely ventured for BBQ Chicken, only to be served something that appeared deep-fried and undercooked, leaving her to merely poke at it in disappointment. Confident in his choice, Frankenstein ordered the Bear Pit Special, a combination sandwich promising "Gobs of Luscious, Thinly Sliced Bar-B-Q Beef and Ham." However, what arrived was a sandwich that seemed to consist of turkey and dry roast pork, not the expected "Gobs of Luscious, Thinly Sliced Bar-B-Q Beef and Ham." When Frankenstein pointed this out, the waitress insisted it was correct without even looking, leaving him bewildered. The Outcome Frankenstein's persistence finally paid off when the waitress returned with the correct ham and beef BBQ sandwich. Unfortunately, by then, the moment had soured. The sandwich was "fine at best," the BBQ beans and fries were cold, and a sense of regret settled in. Frankenstein realized this visit to The Bear Pit Bar-B-Que was a catastrophic mistake. It felt like stepping into a time machine, only to find a place that hadn't aged well. The once-beloved establishment seemed like it was in the last moments of its run, a faded relic of the past, now on its last legs. The Conclusion Reflecting on the experience, Frankenstein concluded it was time to bid farewell to The Bear Pit Bar-B-Que. Once a cherished spot, it now seemed unable to keep up with the expectations of its patrons. Though the memories remained, Frankenstein resolved that this would be his final visit. It was time to find new culinary adventures and let the past rest. https://www.yelp.com/user_photos?select=qWRIiPxreEm7w3B_Seo6sg&userid=ivL13L-4XSYepkfoFfB_8g

It was a little dry, but they gave the sauce on side so that helped. I'm used to more tangy and sweet teriyaki sauce their sauce didn't really seem like teriyaki based; more savory and sour if anything. The beef was good! Super tender. Overall it was a solid lunch for the price, but not my favorite Hawaiian bbq dish I've had. The staff was nice. There is seating inside as well. I just got takeout.

Sauce came on the side - didn't really remind me of a teriyaki sauce it's more tangy and soy sauce tasting or I guess like a watery A1. Tried all meats without the sauce chicken was cooked well, not dry at all. The beef had a weird after taste. Short rib was good, nothing was overcooked. Wish the meat was topped over cabbage like other Hawaiian spots instead of a lettuce salad ( which of course I didn't eat) Mac salad had a good mayo to macaroni ratio but didn't taste like anything it was extremely bland. Musubi - wish the spam was a bit thicker but the rice ratio was good, rice was cooked to perfection. Spam wasn't cooked in sauce nor was there sauce in-between the rice and spam. Missing the sauce - so I tried it with the sauce I mentioned above but not a fan of the sauce so didn't like it together.

It's always peaked my interest and so I got a discount code from door dash and my husband and I thought hey why not finally try florianos? We were super excited he got a lengua burrito and I got a chile relleno burrito. He ordered his with some jalapeno salsa and I added on mine some jalapeños as a free add on. We're very much fans of spicy food but when I tell you that they put so much spice I mean it was almost a punishment more than a meal. I first tried my husbands thinking it was mine and as much as it was good it immediately was disturbingly spicy. But I was like hey whatever he asked for the jalapeno salsa I mean we didn't say how much to put on. So I ignored it trying to stay unbiased because like I said I was eager to eat here for a while. I started eating my burrito and noticed it didn't have meat and honestly for $12 it's a bit wild in my opinion to charged that much for a burrito with no meat. But hey whatever I thought. Times are crazy inflation is high. Also I looked back on the app and it was a $3 charge for meat that I had missed when I was getting my order together so I blamed myself for that. The first half where the chile was, was good. A couple jalapeños here and there not too bad. I liked it the beans were good the rice was good but then I got to the second half of my burrito and I noticed a crazy amount of jalapeños. I started pulling them out and in the picture it shows how many jalapeños I pulled from just that part of the burrito. Keep in mind I've already ate a good amount of jalapeños already. It's like they poured a small can of jalepenos on my burrito. I stopped eating it and my husband tried finishing it for me without the jalapeños in it. He said it tasted like it was soaked in jalapeno juice. That being said I'm willing to try it again and hopefully whoever made it was just someone having a bad day. ‍

What one does not anticipate stumbling upon is a stealthy, spectacular triumph of flavor hiding in plain sight. Let us begin with the revelations from the kitchen, which operates with a muscular generosity completely unbothered by its zip code. Consider the bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers. In lesser hands, these are a greasy, afterthought appetizer. Here, they are elevated to a robust study in textures: the shattering crispness of perfectly rendered pork fat giving way to the bright, vegetal heat of the pepper. It is an unpretentious masterpiece. The ribeye tacos follow suit, arriving with staggering, bountiful portions that mock the typical stinginess of hotel dining. The beef carries a charred, undeniable richness, proving that this kitchen harbors serious, hidden talent. Even the bar delivers a shock to the system: a Winter's Bourbon concoction that possesses a seasonal gravity and warmth you would expect from a velvet-roped speakeasy, not a lobby counter. Yet, to experience this hidden gem, one must navigate the bizarre, static theater of the front-of-house. Hospitality is, fundamentally, a kinetic art. It is a dance of invisible choreography, anticipating needs and clearing plates. The manager on duty, however, seemed entirely unaware of this requirement, remaining locked in a state of profound, almost geological stillness. Anchored to a single table and clutching a siren-branded Starbucks cup as if it were a talisman against actual labor, they never breached a five-foot radius. One longed to see them traverse the room--a brisk walk to inspect a corner booth, a sweeping pivot to direct traffic, or simply the basic physical act of placing one foot in front of the other to confirm they were, in fact, part of the restaurant's ecosystem. This visual dissonance extends to the bartender, who engineered my exceptional bourbon while engaged in the vigorous, open-mouthed mastication of chewing gum. It is a casual defiance of professional decorum that makes the drink's excellence all the more baffling. In the end, this restaurant is a profound paradox. It is a genuine, undeniable find--a place where you will feast remarkably well on ribeye and rendered fat. Just come prepared to marvel at the food, while wondering if the management might eventually remember how to walk.
