We've been coming here more often lately, and it just keeps getting better! The food is amazing -- the new chef has done something magical with the fish. It comes out perfectly crispy without being oily, which is hard to find. What really keeps us coming back, though, is the owner. My son, who has autism, can sometimes feel uncomfortable in new environments, but the owner has been so warm and welcoming that he actually looks forward to coming here now. This sorta let me down a bit. Hearing so much about this place and reviews and seeing celebrities going I was looking forward to it. So I decided to stop by one day and I must admit it's nothing special. The batter has no flavor no seasoning it's just bland. I'm not sure if it was just me or bad day but to me the fish was just fish.... No flavor that threw me off I don't want to hate but I don't want to lie either. I wouldn't nor would go back again there are plenty of other places with so much better flavor. Also the fries seem to be store bought like Walmart fries and again no seasoning just dipped in oil and onto the plate that's all. I love an old school place that's been around forever, that never bothered to remodel or change anything. It's a classic take-out/quick service, order at the counter place. The staff were super nice - friendly, communicative and hospitable. I tried the fish & chips of course, the clam strips, calamari, hush puppies and cole slaw. The food was tasty, well-seasoned and fried fresh to order. The batter is crispy and light. The thing is, the portions were comically small! The hush puppies are TINY. The fish pieces are not too much bigger than a fish stick. One order of the clams or calamari couldn't feed a three year old! The calamari left a lot to be desired (seemed too uniform/industrial, frozen) but I really enjoyed the clams and fish. Fries were very average. The tarter and cocktail sauce containers are also super tiny. If you want to leave full, you'll need to order more than you're used to! read more

Some great fish and chips at an affordable price. Like many others mentioned before, the business is CASH ONLY. I've been here two separate times and loved both experiences. The local owners cook right in front of you and the greasy deep fried smell permeates throughout the restaurant (in the best way possible). Having had some of the best fish and chips in the UK, how does Northridge Fish & Chips compare? I'd say pretty good! The fish fillets are fried crispy. The chips (fries) can be hit or miss. They were a bit overcooked and undercooked on two separate occasions, but still tasty nonetheless. The shrimp is delicious and perfectly crispy. Each combo comes with ketchup and tarter sauce in tiny ramicons, but you're welcome to ask for the bottle. The owners are super friendly and will smile and greet everyone as they enter. Service is pretty quick and smooth considering the 1-2 man show. Overall, it's a great chippy and would rank as an above average chip shop in the UK. Not only did I enjoy the food which was coined to perfection, but the person behind the counter was a delight as well. The ambiance is very mellow, frequently visited by their regulars and it seems like their regulars are very familiar with the gentleman behind the counter too. A small little mom and pop type restaurant that's cash only. The environment is designed to grab-and-go vs. sit down and eat. The fried zucchinis were slightly overcooked and covered with a little too much batter. The mini shrimps were great. They're dollar coin sized shrimp covered with just enough batter and fried well. The 3 piece combo wasn't bad. Their dollar coin owner cuts a jumbo shrimp in half so it fries in an almost horseshoe look to it. The white fish is basic. It lacked enough seasoning to taste great and over battered. Lastly the chips. I've seen other pictures and it seems fairly common that they are overcooked. They became dark and tough to eat because of how long they were cooked in the oil. I don't think I the shrimp though is good enough to make me return for just that. read more

It's been a while since I've been here. First of all parking was difficult on a Saturday evening. There's a couple of restaurants in this little plaza so it was hard to find a spot. I got the 4 pc fish and chips combo. It was fried crispy, so with the fries. The fries portion was smaller than normal as from when I remembered it. The fish, I'm sorry to say, tasted bland and without flavor. Could they have changed fish vendors? Is it old? I really tried to enjoy it but no amount of salt and vinegar and/or tartar sauce could make the fish taste good. They were really just plain and bland. Same older Asian man with friendly service. I've been wanting to try this place for so long now. Every time I've gone to Shakey's, I would tell myself next time, I will try this place. So after about a year, I finally made it in. I was so looking forward to this place due to all of the positive reviews. I decided to try the 2 piece fish & chips lunch special for about $8 and a side order of clam strips. They are CASH ONLY and will not take Venmo or Zelle. When I walked in, it was totally empty with just 1 person in the back, which I'm assuming is the owner. Placed my order and waited a good 15 minutes for the food to be ready. I have to say that the food looked pretty sad IMO. I first bit in to the fries and there was no seasoning on it whatsoever. I didn't see any S&P on the table so I just dipped it in ketchup. That made it better, but would have liked S&P. Next, I tried the fish. It had a nice crunch to it and the batter was light. Though a little bit greasy. The fish was overcooked because it was tender and the edges was a little bit tough. Again, the fish was not seasoned either. The clam strips were just ok and definitely something I would not order again. Overall, I would not be coming back here when Shakey's is just right next door if I want to eat something fried. My dad would take my brother and sisters to Shakey's pizza and I would go to H salt, fish and chips and get fish and shrimp or all the goodies they have. Now I live closer the one on South and Lindley so I go to that one. Which is really good as well and I was super surprised and my teenage years my friend worked there we went to Granada high. And he worked for Mr. Chu. And I mentioned it to the fellow who was working there and he said yes that's my uncle. I'm his nephew. I took over the business. Mr. Chu is still alive! I love this spot. Always delicious! Usually I am able to call in my order and it's ready by the time I get there - I pay, greet and bless the cook and get on my way. Well, today being Good Friday - not so. This is not a complaint but rather a suggestion - I want to help out the business as well as my fellow diners with regard to service during any holiday where fish is on the menu. Do not think you will call in your order and it will be ready when you get there. On holidays they don't cook the order until you walk in and pay for it. It goes on a list in order but the cashier doesn't have them drop it in until you get there - first time experiencing this today and though I was patient and didn't complain - I wasn't happy because I asked her how long it would be and she said it was coming right up all the while I watched her tell her mother to prepare orders after mines. My suggestion to this business is to have two separate lines, one for call in orders and one for new orders - or on that day DO NOT TAKE CALL IN ORDERS. Then we can expect to both stand in line and sit and wait. I literally waited 56 minutes for one order. I was happy they were busy but I had two more stops to make, could have come back. I don't get this place at all. The reviews are mostly stellar, but my experience was not good at all. Most importantly for this review, I was throwing up about 6 hours after I ate at this place. Let's start from the beginning, shall we? I've wanted to try this place for years. A friend mentioned it recently and all I could think about for days was Northridge Fish and Chips. I walked into a dimly lit waiting area at dinner time that had a few old Formica tables and chairs. The dim lights were not for ambiance. They were due to a lack of lighting, though one would think the fluorescent shop lights hanging from the ceiling would have been sufficient. They obviously want you to take this food to go, but who wants to eat cold and soggy fish and chips at home? The air was thick with fry oil, which I completely expected. This is a cash only place. There are only two reasons businesses are cash only. One, is the owners don't want to pay the card companies the 3%. The other is that there is no way to track the income... (make your own judgements on that one). Since the orders are written on a paper pad, their sales records must be hard to follow. It took about 15 minutes to get the food. The batter was flaky, but the fish was cut in wedge shapes and didn't seem natural. Frozen? Processed? Whatever it was had almost no taste... except for the fry oil, which seemed old. The joy of eating fish and chips, (for me, anyway), is dipping it into the tartar sauce. The problem was that the tartar sauce is served in thimble sized plastic containers with little quarter sized lids. There was no way to effectively dip the fish into the sauce. The containers weren't even full. Oh, and we get one tiny container for each piece of fish?! Come ON!! Are mayo and relish THAT expensive?! The fries: how do you screw up fries? I mean their British name is in the name of the restaurant and on your sign! Chips should not be brown and soggy. They tasted frozen and cheap. The little bits (why were there so many!) were hard and the rest of the "normal sized" fries were overcooked. There's really no excuse for that. And again, they weren't seasoned. Not even a little salt. Just the taste of old fry oil. The whole experience was a disappointment from beginning to end. Kudos to you for staying in business all these years. It takes a lot to make any business last a long time. I just can't see how you've done it based on what my experience was like. And then, after eating fish and chips for dinner, I threw up about 6 hours later. It tasted like oil and tartar sauce. Thanks for that. I ate breakfast and skipped lunch that day and have not felt very good since. There is no doubt the food at Northridge Fish and Chips made me sick. It's fair to say I won't be back. read more

Not the nicest place at all but fish is cooked fresh to order. Place your order at the front counter and the same guy drops the fish in the oil right in front of you so there's a bit of a wait but better to have fresh cooked crunchy fish than fish sitting under a heat lamp. Fish was crunchy even when I got home and wasn't oily at all. The fish size is much smaller than I remember but who hasn't reduced portion size over the years. Loved the clam strips (wish they gave more) and fried shrimp too. My only complaint was that the fries were soggy when I got home and probably could have used more salt. They have about 5-6 tables if you want to eat there. When I went, everyone is basically ordering to go. It's a cash only establishment and didn't see an ATM nearby so just come prepared. read more

Once upon a time this place was probably an H Salt but it's so much better than that now. My dad would come here for years for the fried fish and every time he brought it home I would asked him where it was from. "Deep in the valley," he would say. "Somewhere off Devonshire." With the advent of Yelp and pictures, I was finally able to find this place myself. I spoke to the owner and found out that he was the 2nd generation owner and he did in fact remember my dad after I showed him a picture. "Your father always comes with your mom and asks for extra tartar sauce," the owner said. The fish is deliciously crispy. Even after bringing it home 20 minutes later, it still retained its solid crunch. Make sure to get extra tartar sauce. The containers are tiny and it gives the fish much more flavor. You seriously need to come here if you're a fan of fish and chips. One of THE best places in the valley. Wherever you're coming from, the visit to this strip mall outpost is so worth it. read more
