My daughter was picked up late on Monday, 09/29, +$30, and I was late on tuition on 10/01/2025, +30 on top of the tuition. So, on Thursday, I emailed this to Marqueda so we could come up with a payment plan, and I agreed through email. Earlier this Thursday morning (10/02), my daughter was rejected care, not because of my past-due balance on a day-late tuition, but because it was 7:15 am. I was confused because there was no school, and La Petite promotes that on school days, the drop-off time is 6:30 am- 6:50 am, so the kids can make it to school on time. So I had to turn around, call my job, and tell them I had to miss work because of the situation. Second offense, on Friday (10/3), there is still no school for HISD kids. I arrived at La Petite at 6:30 am, and there was no one there to receive my child. At 6:40 am, a lady pulls up and lets us into the building. I'm thinking to myself, "Well, this is strange. Parents have 10 minutes to check their kid in for care, and my daughter is the only one here. This cannot be true that the cut-off is at 6:50 am. I would see other kids pulling in." Then, the daycare teacher who let us in, my daughter, and I see a lady come from the back. I asked her if she had been her the whole time because I had been calling and knocking on the door. She responded, "Yes, she was her, but she could not hear." La Petite is 30 minutes away from my job; therefore, I would be late the day after I had to call out of work because of La Petite. I left a voicemail for Marqueda on Friday, 10/3, expressing my frustration about the situation, and somehow I was gaslit. She said that "I went into working on Thursday, thinking it was Wednesday, so I didn't know they had school, but upon reviewing your account, I see that you're delinquent, and she wouldn't have been able to stay for care on Thursday anyways." Well, that's confusing because remember I said at the beginning of the review that I paid 9/22 would cover the week of 09/29-10/03, so that made no sense. Then, even if so, I responded to the email of the payment plan, and said I would pay on Monday since I was late for the week of 10/05. She proceeded to say I was screaming at her when I was not. She said that I would not let her speak when I asked her throughout the conversation if it was okay that I spoke. She told me that most parents tell them ahead of time that their kid will come in when there is no school, or they will watch them at their house. Like I mentioned before, 10/2 and 10/3 were paid for previously; they always pick her up from school on Thursday and Friday, so why would she not be accounted for? It seemed as if anything I said in response was being turned into something else because of deflection. I had to end the conversation and call corporate.

My review and experience is based on the infant room only. I had multiple bad experiences in the infant room with two of the caregivers in particular. I gave instructions on how to feed my 4 month old baby at that time that was not followed. Also on one occasion my baby had a blow out and her soiled clothes was placed in her bottle cooler without being placed in a separate plastic bag. I still gave the daycare a chance because I realize no daycare is perfect. The last straw is when I was picking up my baby and she was isolated from the other infants and caregivers on the opposite side of the room. I was extremely upset. I asked the caregivers how come she was isolated and I was told because her bouncer was there, which makes no sense considering the bouncer was not nailed to the ground. I spoke to the owner the next morning and she appeared to be very attentive and receptive to my concerns. The caregivers had already spoke to her prior to the next morning, which is most likely because they knew I was going to report them. They told the owner the reason my daughter was in the corner away from everyone is because they didn't want the other babies (that are the same age as her) to hurt her and I get mad. This was absurd because I never said anything about my baby being hurt by other babies in the "infant" room. This was very unacceptable and was a form of child neglect. The supervisor said she would talk to the caregivers. That same week there was no change in their behavior, they never spoke when I picked up my baby, they would just hand me my baby and say nothing for the most. They wouldn't verbally tell me how my daughters day was even after the discussion I had with the owner. Never once did the owner try to rectify the situation by giving me a update or a corrective action plan, which let me know she didn't really care as well. I sent the owner a email explaining why I was removing my daughter from the daycare and I never received a response.I removed my baby from Happy Times within a week of this occurrence. My baby now goes to Principrin and she is so loved and taken care of, and I don't have worry in the world when I drop her off. This was my experience with Happy Times Academy, it was a horrible experience. No parent wants to feel an uneasy feeling when they trust caregivers to care for their children. And I realize that perhaps every caregiver may not care personally for a parent but a professional demeanor should always be maintained, especially when taking care of children.

However, after there was a change in ownership, HTA has improved so much! From the remodeling of the rooms and cleanliness to the live updates on the app and improved monthly newsletters. I love all of the improvements that have been made. Before the new management, I did not like the unpleasant smell that the daycare sometimes had. Now, the daycare always smells and feels very clean. Although I never had a problem with the previous owner/management, I can see that the new management is more caring about the children and about parents concerns. The teachers have all been awesome. My daughter is happy to go to daycare everyday and that gives me a sense of security and tranquility. She is 20 months now and she has been knowing most children lullabies/songs, how to count to 6 in Spanish and English (she gets a little mixed up from 6-10), can sing the ABC's, says please & thank you, just to name a few things. We practice most of these things at home but being that she's at daycare most of the day, I have to thank her teachers for that. This month will be the first month that there will be holiday events/festivals since the previous ownership and we are super excited to see what everything is going to be like.
