This place is alright. Let's just say, I would never recommend it to anyone. It should just be a bar with maybe 5 things on the menu. The drinks are all pretty good, they're fine. Every time I've been here, the servers were super rude for no reason. They never have anything figured out (cook hasn't shown up yet, out of random, simple things, etc.) I've had a few things to eat here that were good, ribs and nachos. The wings are straight up TERRIBLE, worst wings I've ever had in my life. Bottom line is, if you're hungry, don't go there expecting to eat dinner. I ended up leaving this place after walking in and sitting for one minute. I have never done this before and believe in always treating waiters with my full respect. But our menus were just tossed onto the table with a major eye roll by the brunette waitress, she ignored me completely when I just said "Hi!" We waited to be seated and she stared at us from another table and mumbled something to us that we assumed might mean seat ourselves? I used to go here all the time a few years back when they had an amazing waitress working there. The food is always delicious; the folks working away in the kitchen know exactly what they're doing and they have never disappointed me. The current waitstaff is not holding up the previous high standard. Rude, always seeming to forget something, whether it's silverware, water refills, side orders. Often the server spends more time socializing than serving. It's such a shame because the food is so good but it's not always worth dealing with the front of house staff. read more

Ended up eating here because my friends and I lost track of time and most food places were closing and this was one of the few places open. I am only reviewing the dish that I ate so I can't attest for drinks or anything. Got the pot pie and was excited to just have a bowl of comfort food with a buttery crust and a bowl of veggies and chicken in gravy. Well, the guy who took my order explained that the pot pie is always changing and the pot pie this night was a butter chicken with naan and salad. I didn't want the other stuff on the menu and I enjoy Indian food so I went with it. While disappointing, I did not dock stars for the pot pie not being a pot pie. The butter chicken was just not good. I expect butter chicken to be creamy in a thicker gravy but it just felt like chicken in spiced water. Food was very bland. Naan was just like a pita purchased from a grocery store. I actually enjoyed the side salad but there is only so much of it and the yogurt sauce certainly made the meal more edible. It's a small restaurant but the atmosphere is very cozy and the food is delicious! I had the chilaquiles with chorizo and my girlfriend had the huevos con papas and chorizo. This is a secret neighborhood gem that I don't want to ever get out. The regulars all swarm the bar seats and are so friendly. The food is much more than bar food. It may look like a basic menu... but it's incredible. Truly. I asked the bartender about this drink recipe I'd found that included fresh lavender thinking maybe they'd have some lavender bitters. Before I know it the cook overheard and ran out saying to hold on. We went outback and picked some fresh lavender for the drink. It was out of this world. Also... the mommy martini!!!! Gin with fresh blue cheese stuffed olives... that they stuff right in front of you, is a thing of dreams. Don't be a Dick and order when they're super busy, but you won't be sorry you did. read more

Semi-busy, but service was good and friendly. The food wasn't bad, either! Ordered chicken caesar salad and chicken tinga nachos. I'm a huge fan of thicker cut tortillas for tortilla chips. These did not disappoint. The chicken was flavorful. My chicken caesar salad could have done with less dressing, though...or more salad. A bit overdressed for me. Service was good, nice local neighborhood atmosphere, but it's definitely much more of a bar than a restaurant based on what I had to eat (the Sriracha Grilled Chicken sandwich with truffle fries). Ha! is a super fun place. The bartenders/servers are always fun and friendly. The food is really good and I enjoyed everything I had. They made an amazing vegan burrito here!! There are also other vegan options, but I didn't try any other food other than the burrito and the hummus plate (which was also good). The drinks are always nice. They usually have a "sangria of the day" and the options I've had are amazing. A 1-star review seems like the perfunctory "I had a bad time for this one unique reason and I'm going to express my displeasure this way." The trouble is, even after reliving the whole experience in my mind, this place just EARNS one star. The food is, I guess, half mexican and half american. There's really no explanation given on the menu. Most places would illustrate the origin of the cuisine (someone there was born in X but lived in Y), or at least explain the purpose. It's certainly not Tex-Mex. More like Applebee's having a "Mexican" night. The server (owner?) is annoying and has an atrocious laugh that someone a dozen years ago probably jokingly told her was adorable. That's a constant annoyance throughout dinner. I ordered the steak frites. The steak was adequate, although extremely tough to both cut and chew. The fries were clearly frozen and dropped in the deep fryer. For $15 (give or take a dollar, I don't recall), I could get something ten times better. My friend's salad looked like something you'd buy at starbucks, but emptied onto a plate. I question whether this place has ever cooked food before or if they know how the restaurant industry works. More than anything, I feel sad for them. Visited Ha! the other day for happy hour. I'm in the area every week for rehearsal, and I usually go somewhere else beforehand, but this time I wanted to change it up. I got attention pretty quickly when I came in by myself and sat down, an hour before rehearsal. I was waiting for a couple of friends, so they left me with a few menus and glasses of water, and the glass of pinot noir I requested. It was happy hour, but I wasn't given a happy hour menu, so I had to look it up on my phone. My friends didn't show up for 20 minutes so I twiddled my thumbs until they arrived. Once they did, we waited another several minutes before anyone came to take our orders. Wouldn't usually be a problem, just irksome, but in this case we had somewhere to be. Also, there were a few patrons at the bar, but we were the only paying customers in the dining area. Service is apparently just verrrryyyy slowwwww all the time, according to friends who had been there before. It was Whiskey Wednesday so any whiskey drinks were $2 off. One of my friends ordered the cold whiskey drink special, which had Earl Grey and vanilla in it, among other things, and smelled really good. My other friend and I each ordered a Wassail, which was essentially hot apple cider, whiskey, and some fruit flavors (lemon, coconut, cherry, I think they said). Delicious! For food, I ordered the butternut squash + pear soup and truffle fries. It took another 20 minutes for them to make it out of the kitchen. The soup, which came with a couple of pieces of toasted bread, didn't have much of a taste.. it kind of reminded me of baby food. I was disappointed. The truffle fries were just okay. They seemed a little stale and needed salt, but the truffle oil was good. We didn't get to eat much because we were already late to rehearsal, so we got boxes and the check, which also came out at a snail's pace. Lesson learned: if I visit Ha! again, I'll sit at the bar and I'll only order drinks. read more

It took at least ten to 15 minutes for waters to be brought to us then another ten to ask if we were ready to order. Mind you the place had three other groups and the second waitress was managing all of them. The woman behind the bar instead of giving us any of her attention, continued her conversation with 2 patrons/friends sitting at the bar about an upcoming vacation, where to tan, how much make up to being etc. at large volumes, oh and how she gets white girl wasted constantly. Classy right? We had to wave her down twice to get refills on water and to let her know the third time we were ready to pay by actually approaching the bar, that was not but ten feet from our table. I happily ate the food and drank the booze, but it was nothing the write home about. The fish and chips were extremely average, but a decent value at only $12. However, I expect more out of a $10 cocktail. It was too sweet and I couldn't taste the alcohol in it at all. I suspect that the bartender might be the owner? She has a loud - jarring - GRATING - laugh, that sounds very much like "HA!". We actually had to leave because the sound of her laughter was so invasive. Definitely bizarre. read more

Ray: It was a beautiful, blue sky, sunny afternoon when Josh and I walked from his apartment in Wallingford to a restaurant in Freemont called "Ha". I guess it's more of a bar... When we arrived I noticed that the interior paint job was kinda like being inside a tequila sunrise. Red on the walls, fading to yellow at the ceiling. It was a creative approach, that's for sure. We sat ourselves and I noticed right away that the table was a mess. Crumbs all over my side of the table, plus this dried smear of some kind. I knew that the waitress would clean it up when she saw it. Well, when she came up, she put the menus over the crumbs and took our drink order. I just brushed the crumbs off to the floor and avoided the "smear". The menu had several tempting morsels. There was a chicken pot pie, Fish & Chips and Steak Frites. I was really tossed on that, but when I found out that the steak was a 14 oz NY, my decision was super easy. So, after a bit our beers arrived and we placed our meal orders. The beer I ordered was the Freemont Summer Ale. I have to give that brew some kudos. It was deliciously refreshing. A perfect summer ale to be sure! It wasn't very long before our dinners arrived. The plating was the steak along with a pile of shoestring fries. The steak was perfectly cooked and absolutely stunning. I really, really liked it a lot! The fries were pretty good, but being somewhat over-salted, I couldn't eat more than half of them. I just couldn't take that much salt. We were almost finished with our dinners and our beers were gone, but nobody seemed to notice. When we finally finished our plates and they came to take them away, only then did they notice the empty glasses. We did order another round. That's when disappointment started to set in. I mean, when we finished that 2nd beer, we just sat there waiting (and waiting) for our check. I thought we were in the Hotel California or something. We finally flagged down a waitress and just handed her our cards to try and expedite our exit. I would love to pile on the stars for Ha because that steak was so wonderful, but the negligent service and the dirty table (complete with that nasty smear) will only allow me to go with three, so 3 stars for Ha. I say, clean it up and make customer service a priority and this place would be flat out amazing Josh: We kept it close to home Thursday and took the short walk to Ha! in Fremont. I've been here a couple times in the past, thought I was probably due for another dinner there. They have a small dining room in front with the bar, and a couple back dining rooms that look like they might be good for party reserving. The walls are all painted like a sunrise, dark red on the bottom leading up to orange near the ceiling. It definitely looks like type of place that is a one-off neighborhood spot. I like that originality. We took a look at the menu while we waited for a server to come take the drink orders. I went with the Fremont summer ale (a seasonal favorite of mine) and decided on what the entree was going to be. The menu looks pretty good, but one thing was definitely standing out: the 14 oz. steak for $17. The menu stated that they have different cuts of steak, so it depended on what was on-hand. "New York steak" said the waitress when I posed the question. "My favorite!" said me. The wait between the drinks being ordered and the meal being ordered was abnormally long. The bar was pretty full of what I can only assume were regulars, and it seemed like the wait staff was primarily concerned with this group of customers. The meal arrived and looked really good. One bite revealed that looks were definitely not deceiving, the steak was delicious. Ever since I learned how to cook a steak a few years back I've had a hard time being impressed with restaurant steak, but this one was pretty damn good, and a steal for the price. Once the meal was finished, it took forever for the server to return to take the plates. Seriously folks, the service was terrible. Friendly for sure, but terrible nonetheless. We ordered one more beer and drank them down while waiting for the check. I don't know where to go for a rating of this place. The food was better then expected, but the service was absolutely atrocious. I would really have no problem going with 5 stars if they could be a little more attentive to customers who aren't sitting at the bar, but that wasn't the case. Once was one too many times. The food was terrible, really terrible. I couldn't even eat it. It reminded me of bad school cafeteria food. There are so many great places to eat in Fremont. I really wish I had said no when my husband suggested trying Ha! The server (blond woman) seemed to be the only person working. She alternated between taking orders, making drinks, sitting at the counter, as if she was a customer, eating a bowl of what appeared to be soup and COUGHING INTO HER HAND! I want to love this place. I really, really do. Its close to home, full bar, great set up. The thing is, I don't love the service. If you sit at a table it takes forever to get a second drink or your bill for that matter. Often times there is just one server, often the owner, who's favorite place seems to be behind the bar where she eats quite often and always seems to be lacking in the hand washing department. Hand squeezing fruit after bites of a sandwich requires clean hands! The ribs with all the sides on Wednesday are delish, however the steak used for chicken fried steak was so tough I couldn't eat it. I just get mixed feelings here. VERY hit and miss. Had a late lunch there today for the first time. The pineapple habanero and verde sauce were delicious and spicy! I had the cilantro jalapeno margarita and it was fantastic!!! I truly appreciate when an establishment says something is spicy....and it actually is! The lunch and dinner menu is simple and straight forward. A few Mexican inspired items and some American entrees too. They have something to offer to everyone. They also serve breakfast and after looking at the menu (which is large!), I know I will need to make another trip. I will definitely be going back and the owners and staff were friendly, making sure to talk to everyone who walked in the door. Very attentive. That's more than I can say about most places. My fiancee and I have been here 4-5 times since they opened. TL;DR: friendly service and decent ameri-mexican food. Each time I go there, I really want them to leave me with a good impression. That said, every single time we go, there's something very irksome lacking. First, let's get the good things out of the way: their wet burritos are fantastic, and they make good cocktails. The owner is an extremely happy woman who has one of the most contagious laughs I have heard (the restaurant's namesake, perhaps?). Their hazelnut french toast is delectable. As for the not-so-great stuff: the sandwiches are dry and crusty. Their steak fries are very bland. Their portion sizes are inconsistent: if you get a burrito or a sandwich, you'll have more than enough. But if you get the wings or french toast (brunch) for almost the same cost, you get a tiny side-sized portion. I *want* to like them, and I think I'll keep coming back every few months in the hope that they improve. read more

This is a small restaurant that we have walked by a few times and never thought about going, but we've been to most of the other restaurants around here and were let down by some, so we gave Ha! a shot. They have 7+ margaritas on the drink menu, my fiancé had one and really liked it. I ordered a beer. Sarah had the cheese enchiladas and I had the chicken nachos. Both were good. For a group of 6 people or less this is a great spot. Pleasant and attentive staff. We will come here again. read more

My friends and I met up in Seattle for the weekend and stopped into Ha! since it was near our VRBO. For starters, it was LOUD. There were only two customers at a table next to us but the bar area seemed to be the place for those "working" to hang out. The problem is that we were the only customers (the table next to us seemed to just be having a drink and playing on their laptop) yet it took forever to get service because they couldn't pull themselves from the bar. The server was LOUD (maybe too many drinks loud or maybe just normal tone) but man, learn to modulate, it's a small place. The food was good. I had the nachos and they were we well put together. My friend had a BLT which she said wasn't very good and my other two friends, well, I can't really remember what they had and they thought it was okay.
