To even use the word "Caribbean" in the title or anywhere near this restaurant is an abomination. I ordered a jerk honey mustard chicken, and it was a weird slimy mess. It is so easy to make a decent jerk sauce. it's expensive, but it's OK to spend a little money on the food that you're serving to other people. This was the blandest, driest food I have ever eaten ever. I just cannot believe people keep this place open. There's nothing Caribbean about it. From the Styrofoam horrible cups to the plastic spoons to beans out of a can, just terrible. I just cannot get over how bad it was. Please hire a chef for a couple of days to teach everybody how to cook. It's not that hard. You can see in the refrigerator behind the counter and there are giant plastic bags filled with pre-chopped chicken, just awful. There's never a reason for that, and I am guessing that the jerk, honey mustard sauce was literally a restaurant grade mayonnaise, mustard and honey with some kind of salt. I used to like this place, but the last sandwich I got (the turkey Cuban) was so gross. Slimy, gross, terrible flavor.

This used to be a great spot with great food, atmosphere and service. Unfortunately the food has fallen off. Meat and cheese on pressed sandwich not warm enough to melt cheese etc. Bad attitude from cashier and the place is in serious need of freshening up. The building and decor are very run down and unkempt, including the soda machine being out of order. Hopefully they'll improve and get back to the quality they used to have. read more

I have been eating at Caribbean café for several years and the food has always been delicious, but every since the owner has passed away, the prices are up which is okay because that's everywhere, but the quality of the food is different especially the tuna Cuban sandwich, it doesn't taste like the white albacore tuna and there was no salt, not enough mayo something just wasn't right. Been enjoying their sandwiches for over 20 years, so glad they're still here! The inside has tropical plants painted on the walls so has a fun decor. Today we tried CC for lunch. The reviews on the Cuban sandwich sounded amazing. I ordered the Cuban sandwich. It comes in a few sizes, but for me the 9" was plenty big. The bread was classic Cuban bread which is soft, flaky, & tasty. The sandwich was pressed which is to be expected. The quality of the meats inside was excellent, meaning there was nothing questionable in it, lol. The only issue is that while the sandwich tasted fine, there was nothing exceptional about it. I feel like I'm missing something, because this was no different than a bizillion other Cuban sandwiches I've had elsewhere. The girl who took my order was pleasant & overall everything was good. Wish I could give this place higher marks. Service was fine, the dining area was clean but here comes the bad news. Only one paper menu at the register to order from, seating is old and uncomfortable and there was three small bone chips in my friend's Cuban sandwich. The manager explained that it happens sometimes when they cut the ham away from the shank. My friend got her money back. But we won't be back until some changes are made. read more

I was told when I left a 3 star review because of the inconsitencies of the food that I ordered (sometimes lettuce tomatoes, sometines none) that I should call the place to remind them of the job of making the ordered as is advertised. This place still has it! Stopped by on the way to the office to grab a sandwich to go. Opted for my old standby the chicken melt which is delicious with white cheese and cilantro. I get mine extra crispy so it's nice and toasty and melty. They also have the best herbal iced tea around. I could live on this stuff. A Cuban Sandwich that is quite simply the best I have had. The competition for a good Cuban sandwich is extreme in the Tampa area and this little restaurant tops them all. Our go to for the Cuban sandwich. Always plenty of ingredients especially the meat portion, see my photo. Perfect mixture of the condiments, some places have too much mustard in the mixture. My favorite is the Cheese Sandwich: Provolone & Swiss American, pickles, lettuce, tomato, & mayo on a most wonderful Cuban bread. I like the Caribbean Cafe- but mainly because of its great sandwiches. It is one of those places that calls itself a cafe, but doesn't really specialize in coffee. It is more a sandwich shop, mainly making pressed sandwiches- like cubans. But it is not a cuban sandwich place. The outside is a bit faded and the interior has a strip mall deli feel- even though this is a stand a lone restaurant. Its main fare are sandwiches - there are 12 different pressed sandwiches on the menu, and a cuban is only the first one. You can also get a side of black beans and rice. They have two veggie sandwiches-but of the two, the portobello sandwich is the best. I stop by here every couple weeks just to get this sandwich. It is fantastic. I am not sure what they do with the mushrooms to make them so tasty, but this sandwich always hits the spot. Beyond that, the menu is pretty limited. It appears that everything can be cooked in a sandwich press, microwave, or slow cooker. This doesn't take away from the food- but the open food prep area allows you to watch your food be prepared - and takes away some of the mystery. I was a grown person before I realized warm sandwiches are better than cold sandwiches. Don't make the same mistake- get yourself a pressed sandwich today and enjoy your tasty meal. read more

Absolutely delicious Cuban Sandwiches. I was pretty hungry when I stopped here for lunch, so I'm hoping my hunger didn't make this sandwich seem a lot better than it was. However, by looking at other reviews, I feel like it is safe to say that they have an amazing cuban sandwich. I got the 9 inch and it was huge. I cannot imagine what a 12 inch would look like. My friend ordered the buffalo chicken cuban. It tasted more like a chicken salad sandwich. She ended up getting more sauce to spice it up a bit. I would stick to the original cuban. The atmosphere is really colorful and bright. I almost felt like I was at the beach on vacation just from eating in this restaurant. There is two side areas where the tables are at are partially blocked from the main ordering line, so it keeps the noise down nicely. They have parking in the front and you can just run in and order a sandwich at the counter. read more

Always spot on with their Cubans. They still hot press all sandwiches here, something that a lot of places quit doing. All ingredients are fresh and the bread is outstanding! If I had a complaint, it's the booths are a little small for the beefier people in America, but they do have other seating choices. Made to order so small delay from ordering to eating. If you like Cuban sandwiches this is the place. I love the Cuban sandwich lunch anywhere, and have tried Cubans from Tampa to St. Pete, everywhere in between and around. (There is a big Cuban culture here - Tampa served as a primary port before the trade embargo and it still flourishes with the roots from long ago) Every restaurant claims to have "the best cuban sandwich." Caribbean Cafe is less talk and more action, and they get it right. Go to this place, I defy you to find a better cuban anywhere, save Havana. Not your average Cuban place! Beyond the awesome traditional fare, try the creative Cubans like the shrimp salad, the potobello, the tempeh (sp?), the chicken salad. And the soups are to melt for. Its pretty typical when you walk in. Counter service with a few tables tou can eat at if you choose. Still using the old school cash register. There was a couple people ahead of me but service was pretty quick. I ended up getting the large 12" Cuban just to see what it was all about. This thing was great! After trying so many Cuban places in the area (probably most) I didnt think I could get a better one than Tias. This place is on that level. Very tasty, perfect crispy bread, and the price is great as well. Lets think, 6.50 at Subway or 7.95 for an authentic Cuban. Think Ill choose the Cuban. Only downfall is that they close at 6pm. The only reason I went here is because I planned to go to another restaurant nearby and when I arrived, I found out it was closed on Mondays. So I found this place instead. Definitely not the best Cuban sandwich or black beans and rice I've ever had, but not bad for lunch. And their chef salad had a good bit of meat on it but otherwise looked quite average. Prices are reasonable. Since I'm not in the area a lot I probably wouldn't go back here. If I still lived here, I might return for lunch. read more

My wife had the only other caribbean named item on the menu, the Cuban salad. Plenty of meat, but really just a salad. She was not impressed. On a positive note; this is a very clean deli with simple sandwiches. Seems to have a nice local following as the small parking area was full. Very colorful and the staff was very nice. Best to rename this place so expectations are more reasonable. A map of the Caribbean on the wall, colorful paint and decorations does not make for Caribbean cuisine. Although a few have raved about the Cuban sandwich, we recommend The Floridian on Treasure Island for the best. Rated that way for many years! Worth the drive. read more
