Habana in Irvine was a great find! We sat in the bar area and took advantage of their happy hour, which has some fantastic offerings. The Tostones Rellenos were absolutely amazing, and the empanadas were packed with flavor and super delicious. By accident, they also brought us an order of crispy rice, but honestly, it ended up being a happy surprise because it was awesome too! The service was on point from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and made the entire experience even better. I was here for a work meeting, so I didn't get a chance to try the cocktails this time, but after seeing the drink menu and the atmosphere, I'll definitely be back to enjoy them. Great food, excellent service, and a lively vibe. Highly recommend checking out their happy hour!
Habana is a Cuban restaurant located in the Irvine Spectrum. The main Spectrum parking garage is close to the restaurant. We dined here on a Saturday night before seeing a show at the Improv. I would definitely recommend making a reservation on OpenTable ahead of time, especially if dining on the weekend. After checking in and waiting a few minutes, we were called to be seated. It is a nice touch that they offer you a complementary glass of champagne before entering. We sat in a booth on the covered patio near the entrance. It was nice to have some fresh air, and it was probably quieter than dining in one of the inside areas. We started out with the cheese empanadas ($17). The plate comes with three ok sized empanadas, and they had a nice light doughiness to them. They were very warm, contained a good amount of cheese, and the sauce had a good spiciness to it. We also had the Caribbean fries ($12). They are yucca fries but basically tasted like regular fries. They were good with an ok serving size and the same good spicy sauce. I had the Rum Old Fashioned (Evan Williams Bourbon, Bacoo 12 year rum, Giffard banana liqueur, marasca cherry, orange peel, $18). This was a great old fashioned. I definitely tasted the banana notes which drew me to it in the first place. She had the Blueberry Mojito mocktail (fresh mint and muddled lime, cane sugar, topped with soda water, $12). The mint and blueberry flavors were forward and she enjoyed it. For my entrée, I had the Rum Pepper Shrimp ($42). This is a great dish with a good number of shrimp. The rum pepper cream sauce has great flavor and a nice creaminess. The bits of mango and peppers and the jicama slaw add good texture, and there is plenty of rice underneath to soak up that great sauce. I do feel that it is a little overpriced. She had the Tamal En Cazuela ($29). This is a baked polenta with cheese, tomato sauce, jalepeno crema, and picked onions on top, and is served in a cast iron skillet. It also comes with rice, black beans, and plantains. It is definitely a filling plate and she enjoyed it. It was very busy on a Saturday night. Between Cuban music playing at a medium volume and lots of conversation from a full patio, it was definitely loud. After the sun went down, the patio is a little dim, but is lit very orange. Service started out good and was reasonable overall, but got a slower as the restaurant got busier. A manager stopped by to make check on us, which is always good to see. We enjoyed our meal and drinks. The atmosphere on weekend evenings is busy and loud. I prefer their Costa Mesa location which is a little smaller and more relaxed, but I wouldn't hesitate to dine here again.
I absolutely love Habana! I've been to both the Costa Mesa and Irvine locations, and each one has its own charm. The Costa Mesa location has a cozy, intimate vibe that's perfect for date nights, while the Irvine location is much more spacious and great for larger groups, family gatherings, or celebrations. The service here is always wonderful. We came during a slower time, so we were seated right away, and everything moved quickly from there. As always, the food was delicious and the drinks were on point. Habana never disappoints when it comes to flavor and atmosphere. I already know I'll be coming back because there are still so many things on the menu I want to try! Thanks again for another great experience!
Wonderful Experience -- We'll Be Back! Our time was amazing! They made sure we had such a memorable experience. We stopped by to celebrate my sister's birthday, and from the moment we walked in to the time we left, it was a good time. The recommendations were on point, and everything truly felt like a celebration with great music, beautiful ambiance, and an overall amazing vibe. We enjoyed piña coladas, a delicious rum shot, vegetable empanadas, and the Buco. We topped it all off with Cuban coffee, the perfect finish. We'll definitely be back!
Our waiter Martin was a delight from the get go. The hostess in front handed us champagne flutes and we meandered in and were greeted by the radiant and funny host Martin. We ordered the El Benny mezcal drink with blackberries and our friends enjoyed old fashion and mojitos. I tried the delicious vegan empanadas and it really hit the spot. Each room of Havana had its own character and we definitely plan to come back because we loved the tropical getaway vibes.
Arrived a bit early for our reservation at 10:30 for brunch. We haven't been here for a long while. Nowadays, you pay before going into the restaurant for the brunch buffet. We were seated outside. Took a few minutes before anyone noticed us in the corner. Waiter got our drink order and off we went to the buffet. Overall, a lot of good things to eat and some misses. Would recommend and would come back.
We came here for a Mother's Day brunch, which it was about 60 per person. It wasn't too busy when we came, so there were a good amount of seating left around. Still busy enough! They offer you a glass of champagne as you enter the restaurant. We were seated in the patio, which was neat that they were able to cover the roof of the patio to make it shady. It was an all you can eat buffet and they definitely have a good variety of brunch items to choose from. I liked how there were even little stations for the chef to slice or cook in front of you fresh. The most delicious items i've tried here were the French toast, paella, and this one Cuban (?) sandwich. Everything else was pretty good, but the French toast was my favorite here. I should've passed on the salmon bagel, but I am a sucker for a smoked salmon bagel. Overall, there's a great selection here and everything was pretty good. I was only able to eat about two plates and that's all I can eat lol not so much worth for 60 Buffet, but it's also the nice ambiance and attentive service that you're paying for here.
Habana is a vibe. From wicker chairs, fancy cups, to servers dressed in Cuban inspired attire, Habana is a whole experience. Ambiance-wise, the music was a bit loud for my liking and caused some of my group to yell across the table. The restaurant is quite spacious, so it works well with a group outing. The bathrooms were also nicely decorated, and parking was ample. Our group was welcomed with champagne shots, a nice touch. The server gave us suggestions and successfully upsold me on the Celia Cruz mocktail, a creamy coconut based drink. I ordered a short rib picadillo dish. The meat was a pulled pork texture and quite flavorful. Small bits of pepper and yucca appeared alongside a fried egg, toasted bread, beans, and an accompaniment of sauces. Everything I tried was delicious, albeit oily. Both the price and food richness feels like a "treat yourself" moment.
I originally went here because it has a ton of influence on yelp- hundreds of reviews! I've never had Cuban food before so I can't speak to the authenticity however there were a few things that weren't all that flavorful and had a very interesting texture. We ordered the shrimp empanadas and it tasted like chicken pot pie! It was really nice to walk in to a complementary small champagne toast! El Tarasco entrée was just okay. The rice was fluffy, but it would've been nice if the corn was not on the cob. The plantains was the best part of the entire order! The ambience is great- very vibey and I would say it's good for a date night spot! My theory is that this location has a ton of reviews because there's a ton of foot traffic because it's located in an outdoor mall. I would get the service is 5 of 10 because we ordered three menu items and we only got two because the server forgot the third one so we just checked out!
We were in town, exploring Southern California, and serendipitously discovered Habana. Everything about our experience was fantastic. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. Loved the roast chicken which I paired with a piña colada. I highly recommend Habana, and I look forward to another delicious outing.
Love the weekend brunch Buffet here. Great variety of good food. Lots of different stations with some foods cooked while you wait. I forgot to take pictures until I got dessert which happened to be one of the best things I had. Cooked to order bananas foster with vanilla ice cream. Will definitely be back
I recently celebrated my birthday for the weekend buffet and I was not disappointed. Before the pandemic, the buffet was a long waitlist. I was very excited to see that you could book reservations at least one week in advance and still have a spot. Imagine the dinner menu and more on top including breakfast and more desserts. I absolutely loved that oysters were offered. I went back over and over. The servers are always great and helpful especially with bottomless drinks. read more

Funny that Habana has this dynamic pricing model, if you arrive by 9:45 am or if you arrive at 2 pm you get a $10 discount ($48 vs. $58). We def don't wanna eat that early, or late so we chose 11 am. Habana is all about making customers feel welcome and comfy, hence the complimentary beverage and pastries at the check-in area. What a nice touch! Unlimited mimosas with orange juice only is $18. Unlimited Bellini with Guava or another juice is $20. We had a party of 10 and sat at a nice big table near the bar. This was our 2nd time having brunch at Habana and food was great as usual. I was surprised to see fresh oysters and ceviche - I must have missed it last time! Our server was just ok, he took about one hour to refill my Bellini, which I thought was a little crazy and we had to keep asking for water. After we were there over an hour, he did start to come around more with a pitcher of Bellini refill. Food was always being replaced at the buffet, there was never a long line and everything I had was pretty tasty for a buffet. read more

Food, service and ambience all reasons to go back! We were seated right away and greeted almost immediately with water. We then ordered wine and for dinner split the chopped salad, vegetable empanadas and pork croquettes. The croquettes were 2 round balls, served in sauce with toasted bread and onions. Delicious bites with pork & cheese. The salad had many different tastes and textures and plenty to split between 2 people. vegetable empanadas were the highlight, asked for the jalapeño cream which added a little kick. I had such an amazing experience dining here with my friend tonight and I owe all my gratitude to our server Izzy who made the experience so memorable and unforgettable. The restaurant itself is already aesthetically pleasing to the eye but the service, through the roof. Immediately I felt so welcomed as if I was family, not once did I feel unattended or forgotten. The recommendations our server provided were delicious! I had the Piña colada and El Churrasco plate. Truly, Izzy was amazing and left such an outstanding impression and big impact on us tonight, we will definitely be returning to Habana regularly. Thank you, all your staff is amazing. read more
I've been to Habana multiple times and I love everything about the establishment-- the food, service, and ambiance are all impeccable. I love the complimentary drink as you walk in through the door, the decor and uniforms of the staff, everything feels like you are entering Cuba. The medianoche is so good, I have to get it every time, and this time my friend had the filet mignon, which was also pretty good, if a bit less tender than she'd like. The Caribbean fries are always addictive, and overall had a great experience. We shared the mariscos fritos which was so delicious and surprisingly flavorful from all the spices. I've had the brunch here before too, and the food stations were well worth the price if you are good with buffets. Altogether, can't recommend this place enough. read more

I had an early lunch here with my wife. The space is incredible -- large, open, ornate, and jungly. Latin music fills the restaurant , but it wasn't too loud. My wife and I split the ropa vieja and lechon asado. The ropa vieja was the clear winner of the two, much to our surprise as we both wanted to order the lechon asado. Lechon asado is usually fork tender and juicy, with raw white onions on top. This was more like a pork chop that was resting in a garlic sauce. If that were the case, ours missed out on the soaking... a solid half of the pot chop was dry as a bone. Maybe this was an off experience or the meat gets better across the day? Otherwise the plantains were excellent. Rice and beans are good, but the congri (mixed rice and beans) was very bacon forward. If you love bacon, then go with the congri! They offer an AYCE brunch on weekends but is roughly $50 (prices are lower if you go after 2p) and champagne was another $12. A nice place overall -- 5-star ambiance with 4-star food. This would a be nice place to have a group dinner. read more

Came here for Brunch and hands down this is THE BEST BRUNCH IN OC!!! Emmanuel and Rey were super duper awesome and helpful. Music is right on and decor transports you to sexy swanky paradise. The food is AMAZING! I love this place for lunch and dinner, but oh my word brunch has EVERYTHING- made to order omelets, fresh served bananas flambe (foster) seafood, meats of all kinds, dishes, fresh fruit and dessert! Plus a wide selection of cold plates AND hot dishes including their famous dishes , the fresh roast pig. The drink options are on point with tradition and taste! You must come here!!! I'm bringing everybody, I'm in love with this place!! read more

What made the evening even better was our server, Tony. He was kind, funny, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome throughout our meal. Great food, excellent service, and a fantastic atmosphere. I decided to take myself on a date and decided to come here. It has the cutest Cuban vibe with great decor and amazing food! At this time, I ordered Chicharron with a dip and it was so good! What a gorgeous restaurant! My husband and I celebrated our 10-year anniversary here, and it was such a special experience. You're welcomed with a drink as soon as you walk in, which sets the tone right away. The staff is incredibly kind, and their uniforms are amazing, it really makes you feel like you're in Havana. The drinks and food were excellent. If you're ever at the Irvine Spectrum, definitely stop by and enjoy this gem of a restaurant! read more

My first experience was so amazing and I felt like this time it was such not as great. Now service was still excellent. We get a glass of champagne once we enter, which I prefer having a seat and getting champagne like last time I went because walking around with a drink in your hand just doesn't seem the wisest. Our server Emmanuel R. was good, he was friendly and even gave us a new fake candle for our lamp because the battery died. Ambiance would have been great if the music blasting wasn't so loud. I honestly don't remember it being that loud last time I came. The atmosphere is so chill, but the music just ruined it. I get background music, but if it has a lout of bass it would have been nice to lower it. I was so overwhelmed. I ordered the same thing I ordered last time which was the roasted chicken. it was still good. I got the shrimp empada which was delcious. However I tried my sisters paella and it was really oily. It wasn't the best. I didn't try my mom's steak though. For some reason she didn't get a steak knife with her steak. She used the butter knife with her steak which made it difficult for her to eat. I don't know if that night was an off night. But it did change my view about recommending this restaurant to friends after this experience. read more

We went in for Sunday brunch and had an absolutely wonderful experience. We chose an early reservation, and although the restaurant wasn't open when we arrived, they welcomed us by guiding everyone into a short line and offering champagne and a pastry while we waited. What a delightful touch--it made the wait feel special rather than tedious. The servers were warm, attentive, and incredibly friendly. We ended up chatting with ours for quite a while, which added to the charm of the morning. The brunch spread was out of this world--primarily Cuban-inspired, with plenty of familiar American options for those who prefer to stick to the classics. And for those who enjoy a little extra indulgence, there's an all-you-can-drink mimosa option as well. Overall, a fantastic brunch experience! read more

Gorgeous restaurant with lively music and a great selection of food and drinks. They take reservations on Open Table, so it's easy to plan in advance and avoid waits on busy evenings. It was such a nice start to the evening as we were greeted with a mini glass of complimentary Rose right after we checked in. We were seated immediately and had to take some time to study the many options on the menu. Our server made some recommendations and we tried several of them. The manager Milton was wonderful. He was so friendly and checked on us several times throughout our meal. We ended up deciding on shrimp empanadas to start which were perfectly fried and delicious. For main course we ordered the El Churrasco (skirt steak), Ropa Vieja (shredded beef), and Medianoche (which we didn't realize was a sandwich until it came). My favorite main dish was the skirt steak. It was very well flavored and tender. I loved the plantains that came with two of our dishes. The rice and beans were also very good. The corn on the cob was a bit messy to eat, but tasted great. The Ropa Vieja was flavorful and I enjoyed those same sides that came with it. The sandwich was decent and had a lot of content but not enough flavor in my opinion. The Caribbean fries were excellent when it came fresh from the kitchen. Perfectly hot and crispy and seasoned with garlic...even more fun when dipped in aioli. We ended dinner with an amazing chocolate flan dessert! Perfect ending to a great meal. read more

Enjoyed their brunch buffet this morning for the first time since before the pandemic and gotta say that it's still bomb af!!!! There's a lot of variety and I loved that that have a whole bananas foster station now. That was easily the highlight of my experience. As for the rest of the experience.... I cannot stress the enough: do not get finessed into eating a pastry they offer you in the check-in line before you enter the brunch buffet, LOL. Save your stomach space for the other dishes inside and thank me later. They also offer complimentary champagne while you're in line, but I'm not a drinker, so I respectfully declined. I got to enjoy some of my fave dishes like ropa vieja, tostones, ceviche, asada, paella, and much more. There's really something for everyone. The dessert stations were so delicious, especially the Spanish flan. I enjoyed the bananas foster and bread pudding, and I think I saw a station for pancakes as well. They also have an omelette, barbecue, and ceviche/oyster/cocktail shrimp station outside as well. You do not wanna skip these! Irvine Spectrum has a lot of parking available on Sunday mornings, so we didn't have any issues there. There are a structure and surface lot that are both nearby the restaurant. For the price, I think it was a pretty decent value since their regular menu is around the same price anyway if you're ordering multiple items. Might as well treat yourself and try a few bites of every dish on the whole menu, hehe. read more

We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation time, but the hostesses were super friendly and even offered us complimentary champagne while they prepared our table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with heat lamps on the patio for cooler weather. We sat in a cozy booth outside. We started with the empanadas -- so good! For my main dish, I ordered the filet mignon, which came topped with onions and a delicious chimichurri sauce, along with Caribbean fries. Everything I tried was amazing! read more
This place isn't bad however it can get pretty hot if you sit outside in the patio even in early fall. The heat can be unbearable. I suggest you sit inside. The drinks here are okay. Nothing to die for. The food is okay too. It wasn't something I would say oooh I want to come back for... The service can be sometimes lacking but again sitting outside in the patio makes the difference. The best spot is inside where you can flag someone down. Also the interior of the restaurant is beautiful. If you want a good Cuban restaurant go to Bella Cuba! Yum! read more

Food 5/5 The food here is super flavorful! My favorite dish was the tamal, it was so cheesy and full of flavor. I'd definitely come back just for that. The empanadas were also really good, though I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce that came with them. It had more of a ketchup-like taste, but overall still pretty decent. Customer Service 5/5 The staff was very friendly, and they even offered complimentary champagne, which honestly made the whole experience and got our group in a great mood. We also appreciated that we never felt rushed, it was the perfect setting for a relaxed evening with good food and drinks. Ambience 5/5 The ambience was beautiful, such a nice environment! The bar area had a moody, dimly lit vibe, while the outdoor space felt tropical. Cleanliness 5/5 The area was very clean, and the staff were attentive, clearing our tables as we ate. Wait Time 5/5 The wait time was very reasonable, we were seated quickly, and our drinks and food came out in no time. Cost 4/5 The prices are on the higher side, with drinks around $20 and entrees starting at about $30 and up. Drinks 5/5 I loved that they offered complimentary champagne, and the drinks we tried were excellent. First time here! The burger was very fresh, savory, juicy, cheesy, flavorful, and delicious. Also, the fries, were super crispy, crunchy, salty, tasty, and the piña coloda drink was really sweet and refreshing, and the ketchup was tangy, too. I was disappointed with the lunch that I had (Lechon Benedict) at Habana for the OC Restaurant Week. The hash was just simply very salty potato and the lechon tasted more like carnitas. The strawberry cream dessert was also a let down - it tasted sour and not refreshing. The staff were very nice and attentive. The ambiance is welcoming and fully decorated as I was in Havana. However, the food quality just did not cut it. I felt like I wasted my money and time at Habana today. read more

I chose to come here for lunch with my family and asked to sit at the patio because we have dogs with us. The atmosphere is lively and even more colorful inside. The weather is hot and although there are fans at the patio, they weren't much help. Service is great. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. I can't say I love the food and my steak was overcooked. Although the waitress offered for a remake, I wasn't up for it. I do think seafood is a better option at this restaurant. The sparkling candle on the bread pudding as a birthday dessert was different and I never had that type of candle before. It is a nice gesture and the other big table had a group of waiters coming by to sing. For my table it was just my waitress, but still a nice moment. I was able to try all the empanadas and the shrimp one was the best. The other ones are very dry. I loved that the hosts gave us a small sip of wine to welcome us. Although I didn't really enjoy the food and the bill was $$, everything else was good. read more

Parking is free at the Spectrum so that's a plus. I went with my friend who's half Cuban so here we gooooooooo We got a 6pm reservation because we had a 8pm show on a Friday and it was PACKED. The vibe and the ambiance really makes this place, it's like you're transported to little Havana and it was very fun with the seating and furniture. The bar area was beautiful and if we had to go again I think we'd just spend time there. Now the food, presentation was amazing but I don't remember the food/taste much so yea.... The drinks were ok. The food was ok. Not too much flavor and wasn't very authentic from what my friend told me. Overall just go for the vibes and the experience... not the food. read more

This was my first time to Habana and it was absolutely incredible! I loved the decor and music playing the entire time! It is a dark and intimate ambiance but it does get pretty loud sometimes and makes it hard to hear each other. The food was absolutely amazing everything from the drinks to the food ranging from salmon to steak and everything in between tastes incredible! Our waitress was hilarious and remembered everything off the top of her head while taking out orders. Nothing was incorrect or missing!! 10/10 would recommend for a fun night out or even like a birthday party! read more

My husband made a reservation for us to go to this restaurant on our date night. Upon arriving we were greeted immediately by the hosts and checked in. They had us seated right away, and we were both given a complimentary glass of champagne. We started by ordering our drinks; I ordered a Blackberry Mojito and my husband tried the Rum Old Fashioned. Both of our drinks were refreshing and delicious. Next we ordered a Jumbo Crab Cake as a shared appetizer. The crab cake itself was tasty and cooked to perfection. It was tender, buttery, and full of flavor. The plantain chip garnish and sauce it came with complimented it deliciously. We'd definitely recommend this appetizer to any seafood lovers. Last were our entrees; I ordered the Seared Ahi, a spice-crusted seared ahi tuna (cooked rare), which came with a side of corn sofrito, and garlic mashed potatoes. My husband tried the El Churrasco, a grilled skirt steak that came with a side of chimichurri, corn on the cob with chili lime butter, buttered white rice, sofrito black beans, and sweet plantains. Both of our meals were fantastic, full of flavor, and the meats were cooked perfectly. The sides that came with each entree complimented the dish perfectly. We highly recommend trying either of these entrees. Just keep in mind, if you're not a fan of rare meats, the Seared Ahi is cooked rare. Otherwise if you don't mind that aspect, it's very delicious! The food here is pricey, but worth it! All of the staff were very friendly, and had energetic attitudes. This includes our waiter, who was very attentive, polite, and helpful. He made sure we had everything we needed and had our food brought out to us quickly. We enjoyed the ambiance while dining as well. It was clean, beautifully decorated, and gave off tropical, romantic, vintage Cuban vibes. We noticed that the staff were dressed to fit the theme as well, which was awesome. The restaurant itself is very spacious with two bars and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There was also lively Cuban and Latin music playing in the background, which added to the experience. I am unaware of a designated happy hour, however, I recommend The Hemmingway, their in-house sports and rum bar, for great sandwich, appetizer, and drink options.

I haven't been at night but for brunch and lunch it was very kid friendly. The brunch even had "kid friendly" selections like chicken nuggets and fries.

Yes, I believe there's only one entree I believe (the Tamal en Cazuela) but various appetizers, like the vegetable empanadas and cheese empanadas, in addition to salad options and sides like plantains.
Have they added any other vegan options since 2022? I noticed someone said recommended the salads, plantain and fries. I'm hoping the menu has evolved a bit since then?

Can you wear shorts?

Brunch is offered Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am-2:45pm.
Do you have gluten free options?
They did! But do to cross contact the items were limited and they have a shared fryer. Ask the server about what you can eat to meet your needs.
Is the regular lunch menu available on Sunday during brunch?
Yep, I've gone in on Sunday before and I sat at the bar and ordered off the regular lunch menu.
Where can we park?
Several surrounding parking lots and parking structures. There is also valet but is a short walk to here from valet.
