I hosted a family dinner at Mastro's Ocean Club at the Irvine Spectrum for my wife's birthday on a recent Sunday night and I am so glad we came to this Mastro's location. I was apprehensive about the night given the mixed reviews I had read on Yelp (my wife did pick this restaurant), but those apprehensions were misgivings because it was a very good night; a very good experience. The atmosphere was perfect; not too loud, dimly romantic setting and live music that didn't overwhelm the room. The service was top notch; from the hostess who greeted us, to Eric our front waiter who was incredible, to the staff who supported him. And the food was as expected - superb. My wife loved her gigantic garlic-roasted Black Tiger prawn app. The bread service, beef filets, Alaskan halibut, double-cut pork chop, Red King crab and truffle gnocchi, creamed corn and sautéed green beans were wonderful. And the butter cake desserts (standard or the seasonal lemon blueberry version [we tried both] ... the best I've ever had). I could go on and on about how this restaurant outperformed my expectations. They're doing things right here. read more

Came here with my girlfriends on Saturday and had a great time. Is the service exactly like the Newport Beach location? Not quite. Since this location is still new, there were a few service hiccups along the way. That said, our server, Gojko, was fantastic and truly went above and beyond to make our dinner enjoyable. Sergio, the manager, was also wonderful and helped make the experience a positive one. The crowd here is definitely different from the Newport Beach location, so keep that in mind if you're expecting the same atmosphere. While they're still working through some growing pains, the outstanding hospitality from Gojko and Sergio was the highlight of the evening and made our dinner really lovely. read more

Server was great! That's about it. Ordered Medium rare steak. Came out almost well done. Were very quick to catch but took forever to correct. Ate my whole entree before my husbands steak came out. $450 experience shouldn't involve eating entrees separately. Things happen but what was really disappointing was that a manager never touched our table to address it. SA when picking up our plates said "that's some hot shit" which we were baffled at. We were hyped for our anniversary dinner as we heard so much about the legendary mastros but this experience was starting to feel like Apple Bees. Actually I don't think the wait staff have ever cursed in front of me at Apple bees lol. They tried to get us to order a dessert and when we declined they came back and said they would like to offer an anniversary treat on the house. That seems sleezy to try and get us to buy one and then offer a free one when we declined. Also I've heard an anniversary treat is usually free here. Got out leftovers boxed up. Waited about 10 mins for the bread but it never came out and we just wanted to go at that point. Felt like we were being held hostage and still no manager talked to us. Server did take off our sushi roll which was nice. He was 10/10 great. Just definitely not fine dining quality nor worth anywhere near $450. *UPDATE* Manager reached out to us the following day. It was very nice of them to take full responsibility for everything and even offer a $150 credit on our next meal there. Went here for a business dinner on a Thursday evening as a group of 7. We were promptly seated at our reservation time. Firstly, our servers and everyone that assisted her were all excellent - waters were refilled, multiple people brought our appetizers, entrees, sides, etc. Everyone did a fantastic job keeping track of us. Secondly, the food was all incredible. We definitely over-ordered for our party size (too many sides), but nothing went to waste and everything was cooked to perfection. The live music being played in the lobby was also beautiful renditions of current songs, something I found unique. Some negatives - the entire dinner took almost 3.5 hours, and we didn't receive our entrees until the 2 hour mark. We didn't order a ton of appetizers (some side salads and bread), so it seemed like a very long time to wait. A member of our party actually had to leave for the airport before receiving his entree, but our servers were kind enough to pack it up for him to go. It was also VERY dark inside the restaurant, to the point that it was difficult for members of our party to confirm their steaks had been cooked to the desired temperature. I was hesitant to try this Mastro's because I've always considered this restaurant as more of a destination dining experience. Decided to finally give this location a try and I was not disappointed. We decided to splurge and started off with the Dungeness Crab Cocktail and Wagyu Beef Roll. The Crab Cocktail was served with an amazing smoky presentation. Each piece of crab was so sweet and moist. The Wagyu Beef Roll was kind of a weird mix of flavors with aspaagus, jalapeno, and the sauce. For our entrees we ordered the 22oz Bone-in Ribeye with Peppercorn sauce and the Crispy Garlic Bigeye Tuna Sashimi. The Ribeye was cooked to a perfectly juicy Medium Rare and the Sashimi was packed with flavor. The sides we ordered were the Scalloped Potatoes and Creamed Corn. The Creamed Corn was some the best I've had, but our potatoes were undercooked and hard. Our server was quick to swap them out for the Garlic Mashed Potatoes, which were much better. Overall the food was top notch and the service was on point. This place is easily my top steakhouse pick in Irvine. The aged ribeye is a must-order, especially paired with the gratin-style potatoes and their signature peppercorn sauce. If you're starting with appetizers, the lobster bisque is incredibly rich and flavorful, and their seafood--specifically the sushi, tuna tartare, and seared tuna--is consistently delicious. I was debating between a quick Wetzel's Pretzels or waiting for Mastro's, and I'm so glad I waited!! From the moment I sat down, everything felt polished and upscale! The shrimp cocktail was outstanding!! The aroma, the perfectly seasoned shrimp, the bold cocktail sauce with just the right horseradish kick, and even the lemon wrapped in a mesh bag all felt elegant. I sat at the bar and received dirty share plates. I asked Elysell (barback) for new plates. He took my plate, walked to the other side of the bar and then brought it back to me. THE EXACT SAME DIRTY PLATE.... Unbelievable! Turns out there weren't any clean share plates available at the bar. I prefer truth over gaslighting and blatant disrespect. I am writing to share a disappointing experience my husband and I had at this location. We were celebrating our four-year wedding anniversary and chose Mastro's because we have always spoken highly of the restaurant and expected a special evening. Unfortunately, this visit fell far below the standard we associate with Mastro's. Our evening began positively. Our server, Caleb, was kind, made thoughtful recommendations, and informed us that a celebratory dessert would be offered after the meal, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, there was a significant delay before our entrées arrived. When they did, both steaks were cold. My husband ordered the A5 Wagyu filet, and I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon Oscar style. While the sides were hot, the cold entrées made it difficult to enjoy the meal as intended. After the food was delivered, no one checked on our table for some time. We attempted to get the attention of a server or manager and even asked another server to assist, but were unable to reach anyone until later. A manager, Sergio, eventually came by while dropping off drinks, and we were able to explain the issue. He apologized and offered to remake the entrées, which we accepted. The replacement entrées took a considerable amount of time and arrived barely lukewarm. In addition, the crab topping on my Oscar-style filet was overly salty and inedible for both my husband and me. By that point, the timing and quality issues had significantly impacted our experience. We did our best to finish what we could. At the end of the meal, we were served a complimentary dessert along with additional items, including chocolate-dipped strawberries. We had not requested the extra desserts and were no longer able to fully enjoy them after the extended delays and meal experience. When the check arrived, our server mentioned that some items had been taken care of along with the desserts. However, upon review, the only adjustment was the originally promised celebratory dessert. Given the overall experience and over $600 spent, we had expected a more attentive response to the service and food issues encountered. Overall, the combination of delays, temperature issues, and lack of timely check-ins significantly impacted what was meant to be a special celebration. Maybe it was the bar seating and service that threw me off, but generally nothing impressive for spending over a $200 out the door for one person. Best item was the martini that Mastro's does perfectly. The sashimi plate tasted awful and probably made my stomach sick later that night. Never ordering that again. Same with the scalloped potatoes, something was off on the taste this time. Steak was good as expected. Service was just OK, slow for my liking sitting at the bar. Live music was good. With this location opening up at the spectrum, my husband, and I decided to make a reservation for dinner since we heard good things about Matros. Reservations were easy to make online. Although you may want to book a couple of weeks early if you plan to visit on a weekend night and want to sit in the main dining room. We arrived for our 6pm reservation and were promptly sat at one of the high tables in the bar area. Our server quickly introduced herself and water was brought to our table. We ordered the bread basket ($5), steel for bread but at least there was a good and generous selection. I also ordered a raspberry lemon drop, which was served tabled side. Pretty amazing and was yummy! When it was time to order food, I decided on the American Wagyu fillet, cooked, medium. My husband decided on the bone in ribeye, also cooked-rare, medium rare. When the steaks came out, they were perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Although I recommend ordering slightly below what you normally do because the plate that they are served on are extremely hot that you can continue to cook it on the plate itself! Mastros is dimly lit and makes a great date night. The service at the bar was fantastic. The bar area is trendy, large and they had a pianist performing to add to the vibe. I am a huge fan of their martinis over dry ice. Absolutely delicious and pack a punch. Had several otherwise we came for a nightcap and added dessert. I came here to celebrate my 6th anniversary and had a great experience for my first time. Our RSVP time was at 6 PM. We got there 10 minutes early, and got seated just briefly after checking in. I loved that because at other places, we usually have to wait at least 30 minutes before our reserved time.. Bread Service: 8/10 So much variety! Not sure what kind of breads was in the basket, but I loved their pretzel bread and their onion bread the most. I wish the butter was whipped and nicely piped or something for presentation instead of the sliced butter pieces. Clam Chowder: 6/10 I had to decline the crack of pepper because my daughter was gonna eat it. To me, it needed more veggies and more seasoning to enhance the flavor a bit. Hamachi with Ponzu & Kaffir Lime: 6.5/10 Fish was good. Love the idea of ponzu and kaffir lime, but I think it needed more acidity. I didn't taste the acidity from then ponzu. Maybe a yuzu ponzu would lighten the dish up. Chilean Sea Bass: 7/10 My server told me I had 3 options on how I'd like my chilean sea bass cooked. I picked the option where it was lightly coated in flour? Or panko and seasoned. I loved the crispy texture it gave the fish. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The fresh lemon squeezed on top made a whole difference. Halal Wagyu Steak: 10/10 One of the best steaks we had. It was so buttery and soft to cut through. Perfect sear on the outside. They ended up bringing out hot plates for everyone and served each person at the table a serving of each item. It was truly a great experience in that regard. In terms of food, the sides and appetizers were to die for. Lobster Mac and cheese, bread, shrimp, scallops. WOW. Where they lacked was the main course. The steak was too salty, the outside was cooked and center was undercooked. Not in the rare steak kind of way but just a very unevenly cooked steak. (I love medium rare steaks, so having it rare isn't a problem for me). The fish's texture was fantastic but the seasoning was lacking. The dessert took a very long time to come out. I believe we waited upwards of 20 mins for 2 butter cakes to come out. It was already very late in the evening so I grew a little impatient to be honest. Luis was incredibly kind, warm, and genuinely went out of his way to make us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived. Our server Kayla was also attentive, friendly, and professional. Service was truly A+. The restaurant is beautiful with a great ambiance. Drinks and sides were very good. We shared a 22 oz bone in ribeye ordered medium. Unfortunately, it arrived unevenly cooked, rare in parts with a burnt exterior, and was very tough and nervy, making it difficult to cut. Overall, we were not impressed with the quality of the steak. The manager made her rounds and asked how our food was, which we appreciated. Given how busy it was and that it is the holiday season, we chose not to send the steak back. Celebrated my husbands birthday here last weekend and had a great time! I especially love that they personalized the menu to say happy birthday! It was such a small thing but a really nice touch that made him feel special. We haven't been to Mastro's before but we knew that we had to get the steak and seafood and boy, did we. We split the seafood tower which is totally customizable and included a smattering of fresh shrimps, lobster, and oysters. I only indulged in the shrimp but it was so good, really high quality. My husband loved his lobster and oysters, too. He also loved his 40 oz tomahawk and yes, he did finish it all. Wild. I had a bite and loved the char, it was cooked really well. For my main, I had the sea bass cooked to their recommendation. We also split broccolini and the mac n cheese but honestly this was overkill after everything else, including the bread basket appetizer. We could barely finish it. On top of that we ordered the butter cake (gotta have a birthday sweet treat!) and they also brought us a complimentary slice of chocolate cake that was HUGE. We ended up with a lot of leftovers which honestly I wasn't mad at. Overall, this was a splurge of a dinner. The seafood tower was plated beautifully, and the tuna tartare was so creamy with the avocado. The steak was perfectly cooked and they serve it on on a 400° hot plate, which totally elevates the experience. We wanted to enjoy a good steak so we decided to go to Mastro's Newport. Reviews looked great so away we go. Walking into the restaurant we heard live music which was a plus. We sat at a high table far left of bar, and it was comfortable seating. The ambiance and dining room/bar with grand height ceilings really makes Mastro's costa mesa look like a little brother. Let me first say service was top notch, thank you Miranda! We started with a round of cocktails, Ron Burgundy and Marenco Pineto. Both rich and tasty. We were hungry so ordered the 33 Oz Chef's Cut Ribeye to share. Sides of Garlic Mash, Garlic Mushrooms, and Steamed Asparagus. I then ordered a glass of Cab DAOU to pair with. Let me tell you, steak was perfectly cooked, we enjoyed every bite. Our cravings were indeed satisfied but needed a little sweetness to seal the deal. Warm butter cake was our choice for desert, with no regrets whatsoever. But our eyes were hungrier than our stomachs and took half of all to go. First time ever trying Mastro's and let me say I was impressed. Let's start with the ambiance , the ambiance was great very intimate lighting at night perfect for date nights and dinner parties. The vibe made you feel so welcomed and of course a very clean restaurant as well. Perfect 10/10 The food ! Was amazing the steak I ordered was the filet and mash potatoes and it was cooked to perfection. Not over powering seasoned steak cooked at the right temperature as well. The mash potatoes paired well with the steak to add extra flavors and the texture was so smooth as well. The sauté shrimp was good to very tender and burst of flavor. We also ordered some dessert to go and wow just wow . My husband cheesecake was huge ! And it was delicious not over powering of sweetness and it was easy to eat. I got the crème brûlée I forgot to take a picture of it but it was delicious it tasted like I was eating a toasted marshmallow I'd definitely recommend that for dessert . Now for the service ! The service was impeccable! 10/10 mastro knows how to pick their waiters because the gentleman that served my husband and I was great. We went for my husband's birthday the other night and he made sure we had everything accounted for. He wasn't over trying to serve us but made sure we got everything we needed. I've been to numerous Mastro's locations, especially the one in Newport Coast, and have always had a good experience. Unfortunately our dinner at this location turned out to be one the worst dining experience we've ever had at any restaurant. Just a few of the lowlights... No bread was brought out, waters/drinks not refreshed, after taking our order the server had to come back three times to ask about details of the order which was a bad sign, it took 3 attempts for them to get the order right for some at the table and each time they tried to correct things it took forever, one guest needed a 4th attempt and finally just said to pack it to go. We had 3 managers trying to get things right and they still couldn't. We were there for nearly 3.5 hours and never got the meal we ordered. Outback Steakhouse would have been a far superior experience. Never going back to this location. If this had been my first and only experience with Mastro's I'd never step foot in any location, but I'll now just stick with the Newport Coast location. Also of note and probably a sign.. Primetime on a Friday and the place was half empty and never filled. I predict this location, unless they completely overhaul it, will be closed within a year. read more

As a long time Mastros fan, it's tough to see what it has become after the ownership change. After a few mediocre experiences, we have the new Irvine location a try. Visually, it's fine, but a big step down from Costa Mesa or Newport. Service was a mess. Despite celebrating a birthday, we felt like an afterthought. Couldn't find a server and when we did, they couldn't answer questions (gluten free, dairy free, etc) or the answers were wrong (pitched us gluten free fries, waited for them, then told they couldn't be done). They changed preparation on steak (took out butter even though no one requested). Lobster mashed potatoes arrived well after everyone finished entrees. Birthday Gelato was iced over. We had a great time despite the food and service, but it's tough when you remember what the quality once was at Mastros. read more

Upon arrival the place was empty. They seated us near an open door with a small table. I immediately asked to move as I know my family will be complaining. The waiter immediately moves us to a booth and that's when the fun started. From the appetizers to the dessert, everything came out perfect... the way it's supposed to be. Steven did a little dance when I ordered a Mastros mojito, which made me think "we got a cool guy" serving us. We ordered a bottle of Daou Cabernet wine and he told us "Sal" would be by later to pour us wine! No such Sal came by and he had to pour the wine ourselves! Later Steven told us they ran out of "burrata" and they could bring us a "wedge" with bacon blue cheese dressing so we said ok! Well, it came with chunky big slices of pot belly bacon absolutely awful!!!!! We questioned this with Steven and he said they had to bring it in whatever that meant this AFTER the wedge was already served confusing us completely!! After we questioned it with Steven the service went downhill from there. Our table was next to a table with 3 kids and although I know the restaurant can't deny service with customers with children but they could put these families in a corner so they do t disturb patrons that are child-less. The lobster Mac'cheese super salty, as was the sea bass and although we complained to Steven and he seemed annoyed after this! The only part that was good was steamed asparagus! Although the night was to celebrate my birthday we both just wanted to leave - they brought us a dry piece of chocolate cake which was probably pre-made and kept in refrigerator! Good foods a good treat for Father's day event, not a place for every day. I like the restaurant in Pelican Hills.

Took my boyfriend for his birthday and let me just say it was definitely worth it. We got the lobster mac n cheese, two side salads and shared the porterhouse steak!! The drinks were amazing too and they do a fantastic job in making sure people feel special on their birthday! read more

I was shocked to see the filet mignon they served us! I should have sent them back but I didn't want to ruin our dinner and we had a starving child with us. Our steaks were awful, I could tell from the moment the waiter set them down that the cut wasn't good. Lots of fat and grizzle for a filet. Very disappointing when you spend that much money on steak you expect it to be good. I know this is OC and people come here on the regular but spending money on a dinner like this is a treat for us and we were far from impressed for a $450 dinner. Sadly we will not be retuning to Mastor's and will take our business elsewhere. (Our server was great, no complaints about him) read more

Went to Mastro's in Spectrum Center to celebrate our Anniversary this past Sunday night. Everything went well until the food started arriving. The Wedge salad was a chopped salad so overloaded with Bacon you could barely see the salad. Next, my wife ordered the Chilean Sea Bass which was undercooked even though she ordered it as medium. I had two Crab Cakes as my main course which were OK , but not very flavorful. The night ended with a complementary Anniversary desert consisting of strawberries and whipped cream and was delicious. Our waiter, Dillion, was a great. If It seems like I'm holding Mastro's to a higher standard, the answer is definitely Yes. At Mastro's prices, I expected excellent food, not just meh. read more

Best part of the meal were the amazing appetizers, sides, and desserts. Steak was just okay for high end steakhouses. A little bit tough and light on flavor. Sea bass was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor. This location is far more convenient for me but I still prefer the Newport location overall. read more

Located across from Fogo De Chao inside the Irvine spectrum. Lots of free parking. The house bread basket had a beautiful collection of delicious carb varieties. My absolute favorite is the focaccia. Yummy, crunchy, flavorful (lots of salt flakes) and with a strong hint of rosemary. The pretzel bread is also addicting. The mixed greens salad was very light with a vinaigrette dressing. Very simple, just mixed greens with a touch of diced tomatoes. Food takes a super long time to come out and yet my steak came out room temperature which was worse than home cooked. Not warm at all. I ordered rare plus but it came out almost medium. So disappointing. Totally not worth the wait. There was a live singer and piano guy which was nice. Dessert was beautiful- chocolate sin cake. Not sure if they're short staffed but the place needs better management. This is the second location of Mastro's that has failed. What's going on with their business. read more

They're still fairly new but for the price point, I was expecting service commensurate with the other locations I've been. We had a large party and when our drink orders arrived, the server kept mixing up who got what. We were literally there for 3h45m! It was way too long, even for a big group and it just took too much time in between courses (seafood tower, salads, mains, and dessert). On top of that, two people in our party ordered their steaks rare and they had to send it back because it was overcooked. They also started serving the sides when half the table didn't get their steaks yet, which felt odd. Curren rating is reflective more on the service and timing. Food overall was delish and I'm confident they'll work out the operational kinks by the next go around. read more
