Spotted this colorful little restaurant while walking around Ft. Greene. It's eye catching for sure and a fun little spot to have very delicious frozen margaritas. I'm always annoyed by cash only establishments but hey, everyone gets to choose. So know this, it's Cash Only. We ordered two frozen margs, a roasted pork plate, a pork burrito, plantains and an elote. Ran us around $45 bucks. The elote was pretty sizable and charred to perfection, as was my portion of plantains. I wasn't wowed by the pork. There were some dry bits on my platter and the burrito lacked spice and creamy texture. Probably could have used a dollop of sour scream or guacamole or salsa. It did come with a heaping portion of jalepeños, probably to impart the heat that was lacking on the burrito itself. I would definitely come back for elotes and margs in the future. The patio is super fun and has a constant musical loop of old school tunes. It's shaded and clean and the food comes out fast. Gotta love Habana Outpost. Frosty mojitos and coladas. Fattening ears of roasted corn smothered in tasty, fatty things (grated cheese, butter, red pepper). Sunny skies, beautiful music and beautiful people. Every visit to this spot feels like a "daycation" to Cuba whether you sit in or outside. I bought my homeboy from work here and he didn't wanna leave. He lamented about the fact that they don't have anything like Habana Outpost in The BX and all I could say was, "Sorry buddy. So when I walked it I didnt know what to think...is this Cuban or Mexican. I originally thought it was a Cuban place and when I saw the menu there was not many cuban dishes (granted I missed some and I think it may have been a limited menu bacause we were a the summer only outdoor seating across the street from the main place) with that being said the only Cuban dish i saw was the Cuban sandwich....I felt like Cuban food so I thought why not. .... well it was exceptional...I am from south Florida originally (and trust me Miami has the best Cuban food...better than Cuba itself)...but this was great. Havana outpost has taken over the entire block and we loved it! 2 locations across the street from each other one was habana to go and looked like the one in NOHO and across the street there is the outdoor seating one. Went to the outdoor one on a Friday night and boy was it packed! Every seat outside was full and there was even a bouncer at the door. Every person had a margarita in hand and looked like they were having a really fun time. We just ate the food and as always the cheese corn did not disappoint! Wait time was quick for the food, and found a seat inside behind the registers. Good prices good food and good vibes. One star removed that there was no space outside, maybe take reservations for some tables outside so that new people can come, it seems as though people were there for hours in one seat, so new people just had to stand around. We love coming here. My point of view is a little different from the other reviews. I'm a momma and my little ones are ALWAYS in tow and Habana is VERRRRRYYYYYYY kid friendly (during certain times of course) We have been to countless Halloween parties, back to school parties, first day of summer parties and sat/sun activity mornings all hosted by Habana. My family has many memories here. The staff are always so nice and friendly perfect for dealing with all the small children that come to these parties. A plus parents can still partake in frozen deliciousness. The frozen deliciousness does sneak up on ya a bit so one is recommended unless you are an experienced drinker such as myself ;-). Two drinks and I'm usually starting the kiddie conga line. Outside of the parties we like to go early in the day during the week, it's a good location to meet up for play dates or mommy groups with little babies and toddlers (totally speaking from experience) the kids are so fascinated by the little fountain in the center of the outside seating area. The seating area inside isn't as big as the outside but great to take a break from the heat. We enjoy the food the pork tacos are my absolute favorite. My kids like the chix and waffles on a stick. There is a nice variety in the menu. It's very unlikely you will find me there late on a Friday or Saturday night it turns into a whole scene with a bouncer, tons of people, waiting for food and drinks and I just don't have time for that knowing the speedy service and laid back atmosphere I am so used to. read more

It moved pretty quickly. Tip#1: It's cash only. Tip#2: keep your receipt to get your food Tip#3: wait by the food truck outside bc the name and numbering system was not a well oiled machine. I wouldn't trust the DMV like number display board with your number. There is a lot of seating outside but it wasn't that easy to get a picnic table for four. The corn which was boiled and charred with torched. There is no way they actually grill it because it had no smoky flavor. The butter, mayo, cotija cheese, and chili powder had a nice flavor. The Roscoe's on a stick is a bit misleading. It is shredded chicken fried inside of waffle batter. The chicken is not fried chicken. The "waffle" didn't have the waffle pattern and taste more like funnel cake. They do provide you with some tasty sticky maple syrup which is just like the real Roscoe's. It was cool novelty food item but not very impressive in the taste department. The Mexican food was actually pretty delicious. I had a plate of pork with black beans and orange Mexican rice. The pork was tender and flavorful. I wish it came with some green salsa. I actually enjoyed the fluffy rice and flavorful beans as well. The shrimp were overcooked but had a nice grilled flavor. It was also movie night at 8:15 (sunset-ish time). They were playing Jaws 2 which was an odd choice since I thought Roy Scheider killed the shark in the first one. It's too bad Habana's outpost is seasonal, because it's one of the best things about Fort Greene summer. The outdoor seating is huge, and is truly one of the best ways to eat brunch during the summer. The food is good, although my boyfriend's eggs were slightly undercooked in the Huevos Rancheros so it isn't his favorite place...I got one Fish ($3) and one Veggie taco ($3), as well as a Margarita ($9) that were delicious enough to come back though. Also, they have more brunch choices, but that section on their menu doesn't seem to be available online.... It's CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM. The service is fast and they'll call out your name from the food "cart" in the corner of the courtyard when your food is ready. If you recently watched "Chef" with Jon Favreau and are craving a Cubano ($8.75), they serve them here as well as their To-Go location across the street (which is open year-round!) read more

I believe this place is related to Cafe Habana in SoHo. The menu is essentially the same but I think the food is slightly more pricey at this location. There's outdoor seating, in addition to indoors, which is great for the summer. It's a pretty artsy place. You order and part for your food inside and pick up your food in the truck/vendor outside. I'm not too sure if it's the same during the winter time because I only came here once during the spring/summer. The bathroom is kinda creepy lol, it's in a cubicle outdoors. This treat was reminiscent of our days in Highland Park in LA when corn on the cob used to sell like hotcakes from those questionable food vendors (if you can call them food vendors..) pushing around a cart in 80 degree weather and ringing a bell! EXCEPT, the corn on the cob at Habana did not give my sister the shits like the cart guys used to (who knew mayo sure was questionable in 80 degree weather when it's stored in a cart). I came here with a really large group on Friday afternoon, around 5 o'clock, although some people arrived earlier and some people arrived later. I am not too difficult to please, and I am generally a pretty generous reviewer, but I just wasn't really feeling this place. +1 star for the food. Everybody I was with enjoyed what they ordered. I had two shrimp tacos, which were bangin'. There were 4 pretty sizable shrimp in each taco, and the flavor was great, which made them totally worth the $7 each. +1 star for the ample outdoor seating and tents for shade. We showed up with a pretty big crowd, and we were all able to sit without fighting for spots or displacing any of the other many guests that were there. +1 star for the location. It's in a cute & trendy part of Brooklyn, which I don't really care about, but there were a bunch of other bars & restaurants in the area, there were several subway stations within walking distance (including the C train right outside the bar), and we actually got a parking spot just two blocks away, as did several others. -1 star being cash only. I'm not a fan of cash only under any circumstance is, and since this isn't a tiny little venue, I don't really understand why they won't except credit or debit. There's an ATM on site, but I hate paying fees from random, non-bank ATMs. Also, drinks there are kind of overpriced for what they are, they don't seem to run specials, at least not that we were aware of. -1 star for the surprising number of toddlers and children running around. I'm not sure if that's on the venue, on the parents, or both (I'm going with both), but it's definitely as much a bar as it is a restaurant, there were several security guard/bouncers patrolling the place, and I'm just not really about having my outdoor drinking interrupted by kiddos. A slice of el cielo cubano in the heart of Brooklyn--who knew? As a Miamian, I think I know a thing or two about Cuban spirit and while this place doesn't offer an entire Cuban menu, it's vibe is Little Havana af. Frozen margaritas, I've heard of, but frozen mojitos? Yes please! My friend and I initially approached this spot with the idea that we wouldn't even feel a buzz because most frozen drinks are typical diluted but we were both pleasantly surprised by the buzz the small cups gave us. The drinks were cool and refreshing and very much needed during a heat advisory. Trying the grilled corn is also a must, especially if you enjoy spicy. Beware, you will get messy. TL;DR refreshing drinks, delicious food, and fun Latin/Caribbean vibe with outdoor sitting that felt like a patio party complete with colorful banners and salsa playing. Cool ambiance here at Habana Outpost. There's an inside and outside seating area, but outside is where all the action is. Lots of wonderful people from everywhere come here to chit chat and enjoy themselves. Drinks are pretty good and there is another location across the street if you feel like the line is too long here. Only thing I did not like was the chicken quesadilla I ordered; the chicken was tough and made me sick later on in the night. Came here for mother's day! Wish we both got the memo to come dressed in our fedora hats, Ray Ban Warfarers, Toms shoes, and camoflauge jackets. But hipster jokes aside, I ABSOLUTELY love the chill 'beach' vibe with the DJ playing the jazzy-hip-hop-R&B Foreign Exchange-like music (google Foreign Exchange if you don't know em!). Note - you enter through the green brick building. You'll encounter a cash register where you can place your order. Then, you can wait out by the truck in the yard for your name to be called. --Pineapple-ginger lemonade ($3) - A MUST! So good, something you can't get anywhere and it went well with the burritos and corn. --Grilled corn ($3 each)- watch out - they gave us two baby corn cobs with hardly edible kernels. I won't deduct points only because they were really nice about giving us a new one. --Steak burrito ($10.50) and cod burrito ($8.75) - so fresh and amazing! Substantially smaller than Chipotle, and slightly more expensive. But the steak had a great smoky, fresh off the grill taste you can't get at Chipotle. Took about 3 years, but I finally found the time to make it to Habana Outpost when it wasn't crazy packed (Friday afternoon). Get the frozen margarita. Get the spiked lemonade. Both are delicious. I especially liked the lemonade because I heart ginger beer. Also be forewarned that the sandwiches are HUGE. Especially the diablo chicken sandwich. It wasn't as spicy as the name suggested, and a bit dry. But some extra hot sauce took care of that. Oh! That's something else to like about this place - lots of hot sauce options (and by a lot, I mean at least 3). The Cuban was also pretty good, but could've used less-soggy pickles. We also had the Roscoe on a stick. It's not quite a waffle on a stick (more like pancake batter), but surprisingly, the fried chicken inside was still crunchy. Great texture, though the dough is a bit heavy. Overall, it was a very fun experience with one main exception. We ordered the corn and asked to have it cut in half. The girl who took our order said it'd be no problem and put it on the receipt (there was obviously a button for it). But when we picked up our food from the truck, the guy inside refused to cut the corn for us and said they "don't do that". It was typed out on the friggin' receipt. Four stars for the ambiance, drinks, corn, and chicken waffle - entrees were a miss and needs improvement LOL. I came here on a lovely summer weekend with my girlfriends for lunch. There was a DJ spinning for a few hours, and seating outside is on a first come basis on benches with umbrellas to hide from the beaming sun. We ordered our food inside and picked up drinks, no servers, so I guess no tip haha. The mango mojito was DELICIOUS, would definitely recommend getting this drink AGAIN and AGAIN! The spiked lemonade wasn't bad, but not as addicting as mango mojito. I had the corn with everything on it, tasted pretty good. Chicken waffle with maple syrup was also really good. The main entrees were the problem at this place, I had the Diablo chicken with rice, and it was bland and dry. It didn't taste fresh and hot, and NO WHERE close to living up to the word "DIABLO"...its like really? don't give it a cool name and leave me hanging. My friend's entrees were just as bad, the steak was not tender, very tough to cut through and chew. I finally made it here this past weekend after wanting to come for the longest. The atmosphere is cool. It's a nice place to relax with a group of friends. I had the chicken sandwich, sweet plantains and Sangria. My bf had the guac and queso plato, Mexican corn, and spiked lemonade. Everything was tasty. I loved my sangria but the spike lemonade needed some extra spiking so I paid an extra $5 for a shot of vodka in it. For all that the bill was about $45-50 which is pretty reasonable for 2 people. My only problem was with the security patrolling the place. It was my first time so I'm not sure if anything happens in here but he was walking around the restaurant like a bouncer in a club. The Habana outpost is an interesting place. I believe they are only open for the summer and parts of the fall. They have a few fun outdoor activities in the summer, including screening of movies. I'd describe them as an indoor food truck. They have a menu consisting primarily of sandwiches. They have beers, pina coladas and some non alcoholic beverages. I've been here a couple of times and haven't been disappointed with their sandwiches. It is a cash only place, they do have an ATM in the location. They have outdoor and indoor seating. So we got here on a Friday evening so the line being long was understandable. There are two registers: first you order your food at one, then you order drinks and corn at another. We waited about 10/15 minutes in the line to order and then waited about 35 for our food ‍. We watched as the same numbers came up on the board multiple times within that half an hour. By the time ours came around we were STARVING. There was music blasting which was kind of nice but the whole waiting situation was a bit ridiculous. We ordered the chicken plato and chicken burrito. The plate was worth it with a large serving of rice and beans but the burrito was small and nowhere near the same portions of the bowl. We didn't take any photos of the food because we were starving. This place is great. Great food, great service, great place to day and/or night drink. BEWARE: this place is cash only. A lovely Cuban/Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn with a great outdoor seating surrounded by a high chained fence where you can people watch. There is a subway station just outside the fence, making it convenient for those who don't live within walking distance. They also play movies outdoors on Sunday evenings against the adjacent wall of the restaurant. Now, for the food. The Cuban sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. And I've had quite a few. I really dislike pickles, so I judge Cubans by how good they taste despite the pickles. This was just one of two sandwiches that passed the test and raised the bar on my Cuban sandwich expectations list. Sunday nights in Brooklyn calls for seeking out hidden gems! We ordered two catfish tacos, one chicken burrito to share and of course the Mexican corn! Two of those please! All the food is made and picked up outside in a trailer. Pretty cool vibe, outdoor seating while you enjoy a frozen pina colada and a movie! Can it get any better than that? In terms of food, the corn was ok, just because I think they applied too much mayo to help the cheese to stick, there was big chunks of mayo on the corn. The catfish tacos were tasty with some hot sauce! I enjoyed it because it was not overly breaded and not fishy. The chicken burrito's rice was too mushy. The chicken was seasoned well but it was too dry. However I enjoyed that they put sauteed green and red peppers in it. It's a pretty cool place for a quick bite. Not only is this place good for groups but its pet friendly...and by pet friendly I mean that I was able to take my Beagle there with me without someone telling me to put him outside. I've been hearing about this place for so long I finally made an effort to head over with family this Sunday afternoon. I was worried that we would have to wait on line for seating, especially since we were 7, but we came in and there was lots of seating and no lines. My spiked lemonade was refreshing but not strong at all. 15-20 mins later our food was ready - food for 7 people might I add! We ordered the chicken diablo sandwich, the Cuban, chicken tenders, fries, Mexican corn, fish tacos, roasted pork plato & chicken quesadilla. The Cuban and the roasted pork plato were instantly the best dishes. Packed with flavor and nicely portioned. I only wish the Cuban had mustard instead of chipotle mayo. The fries were good too - nice and crispy. The chicken tenders were juicy all white meat. The corn was pretty good but had too much butter and cheese, for me at least. (Yep, I sampled everyone's dish! Lol) Everything else lacked flavor. I was mainly disappointed with my fish tacos. So much in it and yet no flavor? How hard is it to season the fish? I had such high hopes for Habana Outpost especially since its sister restaurant, Cafe Habana is one of my all time favorite good eats. I admit Outpost has lots going for it. Bigger space, outdoor seating, an eco friendly message and for us Brooklynites it gives us access to loved brand but closer. But the food falls a little short and the ordering system is also a bit of a hassle and something about the Cafe Habana spirit gets a little lost in translation. However, I'm not going to completely right this place off. It's completely a fun and a good space for unwinding on a weekend or afterwork with a bunch of friends and there aren't too many of those that fit the bill. read more

I down graded this from 4-stars due to the fact that the chicken on my tacos got quickly cold and tough. However, the guacamole and everything else was excellent. I stopped by Habana Outpost because we/ I had been walking past this location all winter and was curious. I stopped in to chat with someone about a business/ website issue, and I grabbed some chicken tacos ($2.50/ each), a large guacamole ($4), and a small beer ($2.75). All in all, I paid a little over $10 for a good portion of food. We ended up sitting outside, enjoying the slightly warmer weather. For those who have been to Black Rock City, Habana Outpost evokes a similar feel - it is somewhat sustainable and it is relatively clean (no MOOP, please!) and I liked the feel overall. Next time, I will avoid the chicken and try the fish tacos. read more

Food is not bad but could be better. Roscoe on the stick is pretty clever and for $4 for two sticks, it's worth trying. The steak plate is a joke. It's steak is dry and overcooked and comes with a few pieces for the price. The catfish burrito was not bad but could use some more seasoning. The corn could be better too. Lots of outdoor seating with umbrellas. Cute place overall. read more

I got a situation of love-hate for Habana Outpost. It is a really cool spot that sells mostly cuban food. But you'll probably pay more for the hype and the place itself, which is 50% fair cause it's really nice, chilling nd the decoration welcoming. About the food: I've tried the Mexican Style Corn w/chilli powder and cotija cheese- it's made right, it's delicious but the price really gets me since the portion is not that generous at all for what it costs. I know that it's corn and you can't make it bigger, but at least coulda make it less expensive. The Pork Tacos: pretty good, not so small of a portion but for $4.75 is kinda crazy. It comes with a piece of lemon so you can add more flavor to it, cause the taco itself is not THAT flavorful. Their pico de gallo is good. The hot sauces also add the spicy side and seasoning to the plate. Plate of Nachos: it's dishonest to charge $9 for this plate. It's some bunch of tortillas that they put some black beans, a cheese sauce that tastes everything but homemade on the top, 1 teaspoon of pico de gallo and cotija cheese. Nine freaking dollars. For real. The Waffle stick: don't remember exactly how much was it, but it was good. It's USA-tradition in a ethinic restaurant. It was tasty though- Crunchy and soft inside, crispy chicken. The margaritas kinda however... taste like pre-mixed. The service: really slow. I like that they do the pick-up thru a truck, which makes it feel more "street-like" and genuine, but the line on the cashier is big and the wait long. There's only ONE cashier which is hilarious and pretty insane for a spot that knows they will have tons of people coming in. It's bad fpr the customer and for the worker. The kitchen i feel could be faster. So prepare yourself. Overall, Habana just looks like those Brooklyn-hyped spots that overprices their food for the experience of being there and puts a little bit of effort to their produce. It didn't feel authentic at all. In the summer it gets packed, specially if you wanna sit in the backyard and just enjoy the sun and music. The music is nice, very summer-vibe, it even plays some Brazilian pagode. You come with your mind on the place's vibe. If there was not outside seating it'd probably not be that packed or hyped. You can easily find on the streets more' tasteful and authentic cuban food for much less. But If you got money and you're not afraid to spend it and try it out, why not, right? read more
