Habana Vieja is a cute little restaurant with a vibrant Latin ambiance. You see a lot of old-school classy Cubans eating here, which is always a good sign. My go-to Cuban meal is the vaca frita, which is always enjoyable here. Pair it was an inexpensive house wine, and you have a good meal that is also affordable. The servers are usually nice and helpful. I would have given this restaurant a solid 4 except that unfortunately, the last couple of times I've gone, I've noticed overall it's not as clean as before. 1 time could be an anomaly, but 2 times is a pattern, so I won't be going back any time soon unless I hear that it's improved. read more

While visiting my college roommate on a return trip to Miami he suggested a lunch at Habana Viejo and he being of Cuban Heritage I knew it would be a winner and it sure was. I ordered Vaca Fritta with plantains maduro and a second side or Moros. Boy do I miss this type of food as I now live in Southern California. Service was great and the only downside was because they are so busy and so many people meet here for lunch (with like 4 cars for a party of 4) that parking can be challenging. We finished our lunch with an excellent cuban coffee and flan. Overall a wonderful lunch experience and a return visit in store on my next visit to Miami. read more

My grandparent lives very close to Habana Vieja and ordered takeout for them once and the food was great so this past Sunday we had lunch there. Upon our arrival we noticed that we were one of the few people that was not over the age of 60. Here you find many older Cubans dining and having drinks in their full tavern Style bar. The menu is very basic Cuban cuisine so we ordered two palomilla steaks with white rice and sweet plantains. For the kids we ordered them a fried fish filet with white rice, which was a good size and the the filet was crispy and fresh. The steaks were super juicy and tender and sides were solid. For dessert we ordered the bunuelos which are Cuban donuts. Great end it our meal and I would recommend to anyone in the mood of reliable Cuban food. read more

I like the fact that their chicken breast (pollo a la plancha) is actually larger than what they serve of moros! A lot of cuban places do the opposite; don't get me wrong I love moros but now that I'm going low carb / keto-ish Habana Vieja hits the spot. Said chicken breast was pretty juicy, and the fried onions were flash-fried sweet. A slice of lime let me give a quick hint of citrus flavor to both the chicken and rice. The rice itself was just as good, with a right amount of greasiness that makes a good moro. We had ordered their mariquitas (sweet plantain chips) pa' piquar (as a tableside app). While they could have been a little crispier, they were nicely hot as they make them in-house when ordered. Ditto with the bunuelos (fritters) Mima ordered for dessert; she said they were hot and just right on the sugar. I ordered a flan which was perfectly jiggly (I like it like that, not dense). Water refills were always on point, and I liked both the manager and various waiters checking on us and other diners. I've been working near Habana Vieja for nearly three years. Surprisingly in this time, I have only eaten there three times, which is sadly a shame. Yesterday given that I took a half day, I went for lunch there and stuffed myself silly. Anyway, I usually walk over to the restaurant, but yesterday I actually parked there. To those worried about parking, don't fret. There is plenty of it available given that they have a private lot, as well as a few metered parking spaces around. Do note, though, that there is an older gentleman on the premises, ensuring you do not park there if you are not a customer. That being said, just as quickly as I went in, I went out. I do not think I passed half an hour there. Went in, was sat immediately, and greeted kindly. From that moment on, they gave me the day's specials and directed me to the menu on the table. Because I knew what I wanted to order, this did not even take five minutes. I ordered the carne asada, or roast beef, lunch special for $10. My meal consisted of roast beef, as well as moro rice and fried plantains. Not to mention that they gave me complimentary Cuban bread. All this and lots of water made for a very hearty meal. Heck, I ended up with leftovers, which I will be having today. I would have ordered a dessert, too, but I was simply stuffed. This is one of those places that is a bang for your buck, and really now, I repeat it is sadly a shame I do not eat here more often, especially given the proximity. I should change that. read more

I've been here a couple of times, mostly for lunch with people from the office. This las time was a birthday lunch. Service is relatively fast, so we can come in, have lunch and get back to the office and not lose a lot of time. Taste is quite good too, the vaca frita this las time was on point. We also had some sangria, and though it isn't something that will knock your socks off, it still is a pretty good one to accompany lunch. The service is good, and the fact that they make it easy to split the bills is always a good thing (this sounds like something that shouldn't be too complex, but I've gone places where splitting a bill destroys whatever enjoyment I may have had at the restaurant, here, we just asked. The food was good but could have been much better IF they would have used more seasoning in the food. I had the Beef Stew (Cuban Style) with Moros and Tostones. Both the stew and the moros could have used more salt and seasoning during the cooking process. The tostones were large and rather tasty. The other family members all enjoyed their respective choices as a few of them were from out of state and rarely enjoy Cuban cuisine. The moros were ok, and the bread they give you before your meal is not good at all. Croquettes are ok. The tres leches tasted like fridge - you could taste that it had been sitting in there uncovered for a bit. My chicken cordon bleu was almost tasteless. Cuban restaurant, from what I know Cubans love using garlic and as I've tried Cuban before I was expecting great food. Although the food didn't taste authentic or well seasoned.. the rice moro didn't have much flavor bit bland los maduros were fine I had the liver which was overall way too salty in the stew and didn't taste fresh. We got the vaca frita which I'd recommend with onions. They have juices but all canned not bad- Service as usual in Miami was super friendly and attentive and the food was reasonably economical.
