The Margaritas were VERY weak and for $10 should be at least a LITTLE buzz on an empty stomach. We ordered guacamole with out drinks and it was a mistake. Should have just left. I don't understand all the good reviews. Very disappointed with this place. The food is just not very good, made worse by high prices. Everything was just kind of bland. The burrito was just a tortilla filled with steak. Nothing else. No cheese, beans, rice... just steak. That's not a burrito. & the guacamole has lettuce in it. Which is just weird. Tamale was super dry. Just crumbled when u cut into it. No seasoning filled with dry shredded beef. The worst thing though is the queso which just tastes like slightly thickened milk. Even cold, you could still pour it, like milk. Meaning there is little cheese in it. The picture attached is the size comparison between the queso container this place gave me on the right, & what I just got delivered from Superica. They were the same price. $12 for about 4oz. We ordered carne tampiquena and three enchiladas (cheese/shredded beef/shredded chicken) with mole and suiza sauces which came with cilantro lime rice, black beans, corn and pico. We ate everything and still wanted dessert so we ordered coconut flan with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Worth every calorie and every penny. The owner/server Martin was friendly and efficient. This would be our favorite Mexican restaurant if we lived here. It's nice not having to worry about expensive parking like restaurants downtown. We ventured out to Donelson specifically because of the yelp reviews and I cannot express the gratitude for this dining experience. The service was incredibly kind, they allowed us to choose whatever we wanted to sit, and for some reason business was slow for a Saturday night. It was very clean, the music was peaceful, and the atmosphere is very homey. Now onto the food: this is the most authentic Mexican food I've encountered since visiting Matamoros Mexico. The cilianto rice melted in your mouth which pairs nicely with the black beans. The chimichangas were petite but filling. The cheese dip is a must get as it has a hint of jalapeño that is not overwhelming. If you're reading this, this is your sign to check this page out. A must return. read more

This is the perfect example of don't judge a book by the cover!! When you pull up you will be like, "what in the heck is he talking about? This is a dump." Yep it looks like that. It is right next to a "massage parlor" and it looks very sketchy! Inside the venue was clean and ready for business. It wasn't elegant it wasn't outrageous, it wasn't special... it was a local down home joint that felt comfortable. When we walked in we were the only ones there... that is usually a red flag! However it was 2pm and past the lunch rush so we hoped it was not a sign. They brought the usual chips and salsa to the table... it had a little heat. Not too hot but good flavor! Starting off good. The chips were fresh and crunchy not too thin and quite good. We ordered the queso and some guac of which the queso I loved! It was the right consistency, it had a bit of spice and flavor was awesome! Emboldened by the great queso (my wife said the guac was great as well... I just don't like avocado!) we dove into the menu and ordered. I ordered the carne asada tacos and one special taco the waitress recommended (I should have noted the name.) My wife and son had the flautas... chicken and the rest ordered various dishes. The food was out of this world! Stupendous! Fantastic! It was the best Mexican food we have had since leaving Texas! I wish this location was in Atlanta! Everything was fresh. The tacos were real corn tortillas, small and packed with carne... the special taco was loaded with shredded beef, cheese, and had a cream drizzled over the top of it... it was extraordinary! Wow what flavors! They brought out a hot cream sauce which, if used sparingly, was just en fuego! Every bite was a symphony of other worldly tastes. All six of us fell in love... so much so I didn't take any pics of the food. It was all just so gosh darn good I lost myself in the joy of the dishes. The prices were right.. the service was good the food was purely outstanding! Ignore what you see when you pull up and get yourself over here to try out some of the best authentic Mexican food I have had in years! This is one place you have to get to! Small portions, small flavor. The Arroz Feliz had maybe 6 forkfuls of rice and the chicken was thinly sliced, maybe less than half a breast. The "burritos" ordered by the fiancée were wrapped in what seemed like moist, stale Fritos and covered in the blandest red sauce I've ever seen. The lime used in my Corona was still slightly yellow and bitter which essentially ruined the Corona and the margarita my fiancée ordered was no more than three drops of flavoring and the rest of the cup was tequila. Service was mid-tier. The waitress didn't check on us and she never really looked up from the register, her phone or was around the floor enough to actually see we were ready to go. The overall atmosphere seems like a cross between contemporary modern antique mall and rustic Mexican pictures, but no actual Mexican restaurant VIBE. For $47.12, the price seems high compared to what you receive at a larger, more authentic restaurant in both ambience and food/flavor. read more

After seeing the very positive reviews we stopped in for an early dinner after checking into our nearby hotel. We were the only patrons on a very rainy weeknight. The server was very friendly. I started with a guava margarita and it was very good - I had never had this flavored margarita before - highly recommended. The chips and salsa were complimentary. Be warned the salsa has quite the kick! We both got the enchilada dinner - one with a mix of chicken and cheese enchiladas with verde sauce and the other chorizo and cheese with red sauce. Both were very good though we preferred the cheese enchiladas. The black beans were a nice change from the typical refried beans. The dinner was plated in a very appealing manner not just plopped on the plate like at most Mexican places. There are many Mexican places in this general area - this one is a winner. read more

The service and the food was very quick and fresh. Happy hour is Tuesday - Thursday so I missed it by a day. I ordered Chimichangas and I am traditionally familiar with cheese top being added on top but they only add salsa and crème. It was good. They have parking right out front and the crowd gets thicker after work. I had 2 drinks the chipotle margarita and the sangria. The sangria was strong but delicious. I would order both again. I've had a lot of really good mexican food and this place is top of the list. We ordered the Parrillada Habanero which consists of skirt steak, chicken breast chorizo and grilled shrimp. It's also had fries with ground beef and grilled onions. It was served with flour tortillas, rice, beans, guac and sour cream. Now that I'm done with what's in it, it's like a fajitas on flavor steroids. This meal was fantastic. Filled with flavor and a little spice, the combos that I could put into my tortilla was fun and a joy to eat. Although some might find it a little oily, I thoroughly enjoyed it running down my hands. In true Donelson form, tucked inside an old strip of shops lies the best Mexican food my husband and I have had outside of... well, Mexico. The space is well-renovated with a modern feel and south of the border flair. We considered ordering the guac or queso fundido to start, but immediately got our fill on the chips and salsa. The salsa is VERY spicy, but had great flavor! We did order the chicken fajitas and camarones a la parilla (shrimp) - both excellent. If you're looking for more of a fresh and grilled flavor over a smothered-in-cheese situation, definitely check out one of Donelson's newest additions. read more

Absolutely loved this place. I've already recommended it to friends and family. It's hard to find a Mexican restaurant that makes fresh tamales but they do and they''re fantastic. Nice size portions, great flavor profile, fresh ingredients. The others with me loved theirs as well. Fresh - fresh - fresh!! Small but quaint place in Donelson. Friendly staff. Nice value as well. 100% will return. Oh and the salsa was nice with a kick. I like spicy so it was fine with me. Too spicy for the wife but she loved the cheese dip with the hint of jalapeño. Checked out Habanero Grill with a good friend you f mine the other day. We had a great time and a wonderful meal. The restaurant is quaint and the food is Mexican Nuevo. I loved all the "different" types of margaritas that they offered they had a mango habanero, blueberry, tamarind, etc. we decided to go with a top-shelf pitcher of mango margaritas, and they were nice and strong. For appetizers we had the guacamole Casero and the Bessos de camarones. Which were both great. And for dinner we had the Camarones a la Parrilla which were shrimp served with an ancho Chile cream sauce, rice, black beans, and diced fried potatoes (papas Fritas). Overall, we had a wonderful meal. The service was fabulous and the food to die for. I will definitely be back very soon. read more

Habanero is one of those spots that has grown on me greatly. I first tried it before covid and was not very impressed. Oddly ordering take out made me cherish it a bit more. The food has a more central american style with a commitment to black beans, that I love. Also you're not getting the same gross rice that most mexican restaurants serve around Nashvegas. Some of the meats are obviously from the same food distributor but the preparation style fortunately differs. You can't go wrong with anything covered in their enchilada sauces. Also, the margs are bangin'. I think they're still doing them to go as well! The inside is small and intimate. I'm not very comfortable with the covid situation here, but they are open for full service! read more

When everyone started posting about Habanero Grill a few months ago on my neighborhood Facebook page, I honestly thought the restaurant was giving away free meals in exchange for positive reviews. There was no way everyone could be raving about this one restaurant all at the same time. Boy, was I wrong. My boyfriend wandered in here months before I did after a visit to the chiro and the cobbler next door. He's not active on Facebook so he wouldn't have seen the reviews. He told me he tried this place (first of all, how DARE he try it without me), and he could not stop raving about the food and service. This place is everything everyone said and more. It is such a warm, authentic, and cozy atmosphere -- I almost forgot I was in a plaza on Lebanon Pike! I had a sangria and the Mar y Tierra (marinated beef and garlic shrimp) and my boyfriend had the Pollo a la Parrilla. Everything was amazing, nothing was dry and everything was full of flavor. And I drank that sangria like it was apple juice - which says a lot as someone who winces when she drinks red wine. I cannot believe it took me this long to try this place. I know some people are not going back out yet as things reopen, but I ventured out for my first restaurant-cooked meal in several months at Habanero Grill after they opened in the past few weeks. The service was great (servers wore masks), and the food was delicious. I had the beef fajitas platter, which was classic and tasty (beef, tomatoes, onions, and peppers served with tortillas and a plate of black beans, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, pico de gallo, etc.). The restaurant is definitely on the smaller side, but it's simple and charming inside. I'm glad that I made Habanero Grill my first meal out in a while! Overall, it was great. Habañero Grill is one of our go-to restaurants! The service here is wonderful and the food never disappoints. The chips are always fresh and never stale. The queso and salsa is delicious. I have never had a bad meal here. It is often the first place I come to when arriving back to Nashville after a long flight. It is great for intimate meals and big groups. Finally got to try out Habanero Grill after hearing so many great things. The location is on a busy road but they have ample parking on the side and in the back. The restaurant is unassuming and I wasn't prepared for the exceptional service we had. I'd seen a mojito recommended and decided to try one. It was so fresh and well made but a little weak. The chips and salsa are a great starter as their salsa is so full of flavor! We all liked each of our meals, the only complaint was the tamale was a bit dry (maybe just an off day?). My steak fajitas were incredible! They had so much flavor and seasoning and the veggies tasted so fresh. The enchiladas were also amazing with the sauce being another standout. As far as service, I cannot complain about anything. They were decently busy and only one man was taking orders and bringing out the food. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Donelson in my opinion. The cheese dip was good. I got the Pollo Primavera. The chicken was juicy and the veggies were just right. They were crispy but tender. The lime rice was good with cheese dip drizzled over the top. To top it off I had the Sopapillas for desert. Everything was a 10/10 for me.
