The Ok in the name is a stretch. We waited well over an hour for our food as a party of two. We were given two updates the entire time and both were very wrong. Our dinner group regularly returns to El Ok Corral Mexican Restaurant in Old Hickory for a Mexican fix. Enjoyed entrées of Enchiladas Chicken Suizas in green sauce (Salsa Verde), and Carne Asada Burrito with sliced avocado and sides of Mexican rice and beans. Tortilla Soup still missing from the menu. Washed down with draught of Heineken-owned Dos Equis. Service is warm and attentive. My gripe is the décor and upkeep are in need of maintenance and repair...takes away from the dining experience (see pics). Draught beer selection is limited to Dos Equis and Bud Light. This name seems to sum it up - it is just ok, though barely. The atmosphere is very colorful, and massively overlit, like every light has a 100 watt bulb in it which is annoying and uncomfortable. The food does not seem fresh. Salsa seemed to be out of food service/premade, though might be just that they over prep everything; again food doesn't taste freshly made; Just cold like it's been sitting on a fridge for days. My chili relleno had no cheese in it, and tasted soggy and old, tho temperature wise it was cooked. The breading was weird which again, seemed to be from where it had been sitting awhile so that it didn't cook right. My food came out super fast - like 3 mins from order to boot - plate and heat. What leads me to this is also how their bar is. It isn't a bar, though it looks like it. It's really just a drink station for the servers. All drinks pre-mixed, no bartender. Servers come back and pull the premade margs (supposedly with alcohol too) though they are very weak and watered down. Food was not great. And for price, not worth it. Service was nice. I've eaten her plenty of times and last night I came in around 9pm and orders a large order per usual. When I made it home and started my food I tasted the carnitas which I usually get them and nachos like and when took a bite of my taco it didn't taste like usual so I added some sauce thinking that's what it was missing but then my friend opened her nachos she spelled that they might not been fresh but tasted them anyway and immediately knew that they tasted bad. It was past closing time so I couldn't call last night but I called this morning and spoke with Eduardo (who claims he was the manager) and said I could come for a refund as I asked multiple times did I need to bring my food I was told NO more than once and said there was nothing they could do with old food. Ok cool I drive across town from work get here and I'm being told that I needed to bring the food (which I've thrown in the dump already) By the manager Poncho who says we need the old food before I could get a refund. Had lunch today with my wife. While it was quiet and our server was nice, the food lived up to the restaurant's name. It was OK. Nothing special and missing the flavors of Mexico. I ordered the enchiladas supremas. The sauce was bitter and salty. It tased like burnt chili powder and salt. I wasn't able to finish my meal because of all the salt. Arrived at 5 pm on a weekday. The restaurant was not very busy. It was our first time visit as we just moved to the area from Dallas. The young hostess was at the host stand , no smile, no warm welcome. Took us to table and dropped menus on table and said enjoy. No smile. She did stay busy keeping track of seating guests on a large dry erase board that usually is not in view of the customers. Tacky. Server walked up " what do you want to drink". My husband ordered a cocktail and I got a Diet Coke. Drinks came and I got a Dr Pepper. No big deal. No apology. Server did not make any recommendations or suggestions. I ordered the flauntas and my husband ordered what was called rice and chicken entree and he added shrimp. My food came by itself and his arrived a few min later. Mine was so bland. There was no taste to it at all. Disgusting. I ate maybe one piece of the four. My husband had two bites and his was tasteless. I tried a Shrimp. Again no flavor at all. No manager table visit. The server did not check back with us. We barely ate. Any server would notice how much food was left on our plates and asked. I usually speak up but was disgusted. We spent 43.00 for two of us and went home hungry still and made dinner at home. Ok, we may know what great Mexican tastes like as we lived in Dallas but this was not even close to Mexican. Finally the table and chairs felt sticky and dirty. I have no clue why the parking lot is usually full. If your a Mexican Restaurant you shouldast least have a good salsa. Nope. Really awful experience at this place. We decided to celebrate Father's Day by going out, and gave this place a try on a whim. We walked in and were greeted (term used loosely here) by a young woman who I wasn't sure was an employee initially because of her disheveled appearance. She wasn't welcoming or friendly. We asked to sit outside and she said it was smoking...I only saw one person out there so I thought it would be okay. It wasn't and was too smoky for us so we went back to the original table. I apologized several times for the inconvenience of having to re-seat us. After we were led to our table, my behind hadn't even hit the booth before a server approached and said "what do you want to drink?". No hello or how are you, unsmiling. I asked for a virgin margarita. He said "we don't do that". I was incredulous because it's so easy to make, and we were literally sitting feet away from a fully stocked bar! He informed me again that they don't do that. I ordered a virgin daiquiri instead, which was so terrible that I drank a sip or two and didn't finish it. My husband, thinking maybe I was exaggerating tried it and said "Yeah, that's bad". Our table was in a back area where there was a door leading to a smoking area. It reeked like smoke every time the door opened which was frequently. I'm not sure why they sat us back there since the entire front dining room was practically empty. There was no music, so nothing to help buffer the loud chatter from the large party next to us the whole time sitting in very close proximity. We ordered our food after a few minutes, and it came super quickly. Unfortunately the food wasn't good. The beans had a metallic taste to them...My husband agreed that they tasted off, like soap he said. My 2 year old wouldn't touch them, and she loves refried beans. I ate one taco and couldn't touch the rest. We waited for the check, I tried to make eye contact with our server who was leaning against a wall, conversing with other employees. My husband eventually had to go track him down. You pay up at front at check out window that feels like a convenience store. There are signs EVERYWHERE stating that alcohol cannot leave the premises, in red lettering. The same woman from before checked us out. Again no smile, no thank you. We went home and both my spouse and I had stomach trouble all night. I mean, beyond the food being bad...I was struck by the lack of customer service and complete lack of ambience. I've been going to the El OK Corral since I moved back to Nashville (Hermitage) in 2016. The food is always fresh and good. Legitimate Mexican food. I lived in Southern California for a lot of years and had some true Mexican places to eat. This rivals them. I hope the waiter was fired that harassed my friend for wearing his Donald Trump hat last night. It's bad enough that a waiter will harass a patron for wearing a piece of clothing supporting the president of the United States, but to make it worse, my friend never got his food. He said he would have been afraid to eat it anyway, after the way he was treated. He fully believed the waiter would have spit in his food. At least the manager did the right thing and comped what was actually served. Hopefully, he also did the right thing and fired the waiter. But you can bet that a lot of us will not come back to this restaurant to be treated this way again. Note to the waiters and staff: If we come into a restaurant where you work, we are there to eat. Forgot to post a review. Not my first time coming here and won't be my last since they're so close to home. I went here over a week ago because I was craving Tex Mex. The fajitas were decent not my top place for them. I stole a bite of my friend's chimichanga it was tasty. The salsa was decent with a good kick. The cheese sauce was standard but they charged more than the menu said. I've had the margaritas before and they're actually really good and cheap. Staff while friendly are kind of vacant, you rarely get attention when needed. Food is fairly moderate priced, I've seen better prices at better Mexican restaurants. read more

I haven't had everything from the menu, however, I must say this place has great enchiladas suizas, green chicken enchiladas, and chile Colorado. Decided to break free from the cold winter weather and was craving some chips and salsa and a margarita. Opened Yelped and looked around and decided on this place. Once I opened up my google maps and put it in, I noticed it was a little drive from where I live, but we had nothing else to do so we headed out. The restaurant is located in a large, red building that looks like it might have been some kind of chicken place. Just a guess. It was noon on a Saturday and maybe it was the weather; but there was only about 3 tables with people eating. Three servers were sitting at the far side of the restaurant and one of them came up to greet and seat us. As we walked in, I noticed a sign that said they had happy hour from 11-9pm every day. So more like happy day, not happy hour. Also, $2.49 for lime on the rocks margaritas. Holla! We sat down and looked over the menu. They have the usual Mexican restaurant fare. The lunch menu on the back is available from 11-3pm. I decided to get the quesadilla fajitas for 6.99 with fajita chicken. It comes with rice, beans, and the guacamole salad which consists of sour cream, lettuce, pico, and guacamole. I also ordered the $2.49 margarita and thought it was only available in lime on the rocks, but the server asked if I wanted it frozen or on the rocks. I picked on the rocks with salt. The $2.49 margarita is a great deal. I thought it was going to be watered down but it wasn't. The size of the glass is also not small. I've seen places charge 5-6 bucks for the same margarita. One complaint on it is I wished the margarita was chilled, I realize they probably have it in a pitcher ready to go, but my first sip I could tell the drink was warm and I needed to let the ice do its magic. The chips and salsa were great. The chips being hot and the right amount of thickness to the chip, a perfect crunch. The salsa tasted fresh and had large chunks of tomato in it, which I like. I don't like when salsa is just a puréed liquid. This did have a little juice to it, which was okay, but I'd like a little thicker salsa. The food didn't take to long to arrive at the table. Our server didn't ask if we wanted more chips. I did, but I didn't want to ask for them because then it was me being the fatty and not him just being nice and asking and I not wanting to say "no". My quesadilla was average size, filled with cheese, onions, green peppers, tomatoes and a chicken that was well seasoned. Sometimes chicken at Mexicans places can taste like they just boiled it in a pot. My boyfriend ordered the lunch chimichanga and the chicken inside that was kind of like the boiled chicken, it needed a little more seasoning in my opinion. Overall I really like this place. The staff is friendly and the food tasted fresh and the $2.49 margarita can't be beat for the price. I wished it was located a little closer to home as I don't know if we will come out this way to eat much. read more

Taco salad should have been called Greasy meat salad. Maybe 1/8 cup of lettuce, 1 slice of tomato and a dollop of sour cream. Tried to create a dam to hold back all the grease with chips, but no luck. This used to be a great place to eat.... Not sure what happened or if I caught them on a bad day. Yummy Margaritas!! Great value! We tried El Ok Corral one evening for drinks and a snack and it was a pleasant surprise! Loved the Margaritas and the food was phenomenal. Ambience : the interior is very colorful and has traditional furniture. We love how colorful and cheerful this place is! Service : service is quick. The staff took the time to explain the menu items to us. We want d something authentic and they suggested something that was great! Drinks : 10.99 for a pitcher of delicious Margarita!! El OK Corral has the best chairs out of an Mexican Restaurant in the area. They have a long happy hour for margs as well. The food is the same as most comparable Mexican Restaurants. Their severs are attentive. I recommend the place for when you are seeking a typical American Mexican meal. read more

I'd give less if possible. The food was lackluster at best (could've made better at home). The service was slow and inattentive. There were about five tables with couples while we were there. But the wait staff were more interested in their conversation. I ordered a combo plate (three items $9.99) We received three items(two bare tacos in tin foil) but were charged extra for the chalupa ( yet I was given a bean tostadas not a chalupa for an additional $3.25). If he corrects the order there's his tip. May 6th we went for lunch and much to our disappointment the salsa we received was thinner than soup and the bowl was less than half full. I asked to speak to the manager and his excuse was the poor quality tomatoes they are receiving instead of admitting they are watering it down. I originally discovered this place driving by and saw their sign outside which said "$1.99 margaritas daily", and I'm always looking for a good place to go for a drink so I decided to go back with my boyfriend. Not recommended. I visited this past week for a friend's birthday dinner with a party of ten. The service was really quite bad, even for such a large party. Our waiter was not friendly, nor attentive. Our drinks went unfilled, we were never asked for more drinks, my request for a box was ignored, and it took about an 45 minutes after finishing eating to get our checks. Even cutting a little bit of slack for such a big party, it was a frustrating experience. The food was also nothing to write home about. Went here a couple weeks ago for a friend's birthday. There was about 12 of us and we were seated in the back bar area, which was nice. They must have known we were going to get rowdy. The margaritas were good, but that is about it. The chips were stale and the salsa was watery and just didn't taste very good. My chicken quesadilla was just ok. Not horrible, but def nothing special. The service was pretty lacking as well. I know we had a large group, but perhaps they needed more than one waiter attending to us. Our chips and salsa stayed empty most of the time, and they forgot to put my food order in .I have been to this restaurant 2 times and they have forgotten my food both times. What's up with that??
