We got the sirloin steak sandwich, chicken sandwich and the charboil burger. The sirloin was pretty good, the chicken was juicy, and the burger was underwhelming. What we did like was the pepper bar which helped spice up the sandwiches. Overall, good experience. A promotional campaign for double char burgers and chicken club sandwiches brought me to the Habit one week when summer was in full swing, and these sandwiches fit the sunny theme perfectly. So I stepped into the Habit a couple times in the late afternoons to see what the place had to offer. The sunshine lit up the restaurant in the afternoons to give the place a soft glow. I looked over the menu and ordered the double char burger with a side of tempura green beans on my first visit, and a chicken club sandwich with a side of fries on my second visit. The kitchen was busy filling over-the-counter orders and mobile app orders, so it was a while before I got my food. I loved the double char burger. Twice the patties and twice the cheese on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, and topped with grilled onions, the burger was almost too big to bite. The patties were well seasoned and very flavorful. The lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles added a crisp, juicy, tart to each bite. The grilled onions and the mayo brought a tangy, creamy deliciousness and completed the experience. The side of tempura green beans was tempting and too hot to handle after coming straight out of the fryer. I let them cool for a bit before eagerly crunching into the tempura and crisp green beans. It was hard not to eat them all at once. The chicken club burger was another hit for me. Two toasted sourdough slices held juicy chicken breast, crispy bacon, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and avocado and mayo. Each bite was delicious, crispy, crunchy, and juicy, and I had a hard time putting this sandwich down. The French fries were also good. Salted, starchy, and comforting, they rounded out this meal nicely. Stopped by for a quick lunch. They seemed nicely organized: you order upfront from a large menu and the receipt contains a number which they call out when your food is ready. My wife had the char cheeseburger and a mocha shake. I was impressed with their salad choices (hamburger buns are tough on my pre-diabetic diet, alas) and ordered the Santa Barbara Cobb. Their website describes it as "Chargrilled chicken, romaine, petite green leaf lettuce, egg, avocado, bacon, tomatoes, pickled red onions, aged white cheddar" with ranch dressing. I had my choice of an extra as eggs were not available that day so I substituted extra bacon. The order came out after only a short wait. I have to admit our lunch was delicious. My wife loved her burger and was knocked out by how good the milkshake was - a hard-to-find mocha shake at that. My salad was packed with delicious ingredients, not just 90% Romain like in some places. Better than I've had in some more pricey restaurants. Booth seating was comfortable. This is about customer service, prioritization, and situational awareness (greatly lacking in California's population regardless of social status or background.) I stopped in during the busy noon rush today 7.13.26, and what frustrates me is something I see at so many service businesses now. There seems to be no sense of order or priority. If someone is standing at the counter waiting for the last thing they need to eat, they should take priority over someone restocking, organizing, or doing a task that can wait another minute. Today there were customers waiting at the front while an employee was occupied with work in the back instead of looking up and recognizing that people needed help. It reminded me of being somewhere with multiple people waiting for something simple, like a bathroom code, while an employee is focused on a task that isn't time-sensitive. Good customer service means scanning the room, having peripheral awareness, and finishing with the customer who's already standing in front of you before moving on to something else. What made it more frustrating was the attitude. There was no sense of urgency, no acknowledgment that people were waiting, and no effort to make customers feel seen. It came across as indifferent and disengaged. The interesting part is that this doesn't usually happen when the regular manager is there. She is excellent. The restaurant runs smoothly, customers are acknowledged, and there is a clear sense of organization and priorities. The difference in service when she's working is night and day. I like The Habit's food, but experiences like this make what should be a quick lunch far more frustrating than it needs to be. A little situational awareness, better prioritization, and stronger leadership during busy periods would make a huge difference. read more

We stopped by this Habit location on our way home from an appointment. Our mobile orders were not ready when we arrived, which was not a big deal as we didn't mind the wait. The employee manning the front counter seemed really annoyed for some reason however when we asked if our order was ready yet. The tables were a bit dirty and needed a wipe down. But otherwise, the establishment was fairly clean and did not have overflowing trash cans. I had a horrible experience at this location. The service my most recent visit was to say the least terrible. The cashier Maria on 8/21/25 at 7:00 was very rude and I will never go there again. I ordered a Bbq chicken sandwich as part of the got habit meal deals. When I took a bite out of my sandwich, I realized they had not put the onions in the barbecue sauce,. I returned to the store to inform them of this mistake and by the time I had returned, which was about 30 minutes later because I was busy my sandwich had gotten cold. I politely asked them if they could remake it. Maria was arguing back-and-forth with me that they had put the barbecue sauce on it, and it did not come with onions. I then showed her the description in the menu and the sandwich that I had only taken one bite out of and asked her to kindly remake the sandwich. Turns out, as my husband further evaluates the burger, there WAS a second patty. Face palm. My wife and I just had the worst experience from the manager Eldia at the location at 1504 Geary Road and Main. If I could leave 0 stars for the review, I would because she deserves negative stars with such egregious behavior and attitude. We ordered three chicken salads, in which one of them had no chicken. The cashier acknowledged that he had made the mistake to her as I overheard him telling her. As she handed us the order, the manager stated that if wanted the chicken added that we would have to pay for it and wait for it, and offered us no apology for the mishap. I told that I thought instead of saying that to us, in such a crass manner it would be better customer service if she just apologized for the mistake. She stated that she knew customer service, because I work in it right now. She then told me that, " didn't make the mistake the cashier did", and started arguing with me like I was wrong for pointing out that an apology would be nice. She treated us as if it was our fault that they didn't include the chicken on the chicken salad. She then repeated that we would have to pay extra for the chicken. I said that's not really a problem, but you're treating us like we made the mistake. We told her that it really wasn't fair, the error was made by an employee. This manager never apologized that the error was made and told us she didn't care if we made a complaint about her. We asked for a refund she told us no, and told us to leave and she didn't have to serve us. I explained to her how her attitude towards us was wrong and we left. So much more than I can tell you happened, but the whole experience left us never wanting to buy food from The Habit again. We will definitely take the issue up the the chain. The problem wasn't about the money or the mistake, but the principle, accountability and the terrible attitude. So first off, I called the phone number was on hold and didn't answer my phone call and they said that their machine was not working to accept the food orders so I thought OK. I would just walk in and order the food. They told me to use one of the machines and order myself. The management was terrible. They did not offer anything for us waiting there for so long and at the end of waiting 20 minutes we didn't even get any food. their service was worse than a one star I would give it zero stars. I came in a few weeks ago to order a salad, and it looked like the only two people working were cooks because the manager who was running the register was on break. One of the cooks took my order and couldn't figure out how to add avocado in the system to my salad so she mentioned that she would just give it to me for free. I want to emphasize that I DID NOT ASK to get anything for free. The cook left right after, presumably because her shift was over and the 'manager' came back from break. When my order was ready she asks me 'what's this about you wanting avocado'? I had explained to her that I asked for avocado but that the cook couldnt figure out how to add it in the POS. And she literally holds my order hostage and says ok well she didn't charge you for avocado so I'm going to need to charge you if you want it. I calmly explained how ridiculous it was that she was charging me after the fact even though they said they would just add it on, and she had the audacity to keep gaslighting me into making me feel like this was somehow my problem. She said she didn't know what the cook told me and that they were actually being nice by having them take my order since they were short staffed. Then I became livid because this lady with two brain cells clearly has no understanding of basic customer service and for some reason thinks it's a customers problem that they are disorganized. It felt like she was asking to charge me out of spite - I absolutely chewed her out in front of at least 10 customers who obviously allowed me to do it because of how stupid she looked.
