Came here to grab a quick bite while waiting and it's ambiant inside while waiting for the food. Elton John's playing on the radio while I'm eating my chowder and Italian. All is good! Looked delicious and beautifully plates which I was super happy about. There's also hand sanitizer next to the bathroom. Clam Chowder came with a bread piece which was delicious! There were tons of DoorDash orders already prepared, with dashers constantly walking in and out, yet the young woman at the register immediately paused what she was doing to help me. She took my order quickly and kindly, and I had only been sitting down for about six minutes before she personally brought my to-go sandwich right to me. That level of attentiveness and efficiency is rare. I've never received service this good in Walnut Creek. One of the only things she's interested in eating is the cream of potato soup I found last time I was in Walnut Creek helping her. "Great Menu + Great service + Great Sourdough Bread!" First visit to this restaurant, and it was a pleasant one. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They also have a fantastic menu. Of course, they have a huge variety of sandwiches, in three sizes, but they also have salads, and of course clam chowder in a bread bowl! Today, I got the southwest chicken salad, which also comes with sourdough bread on the side. This was pretty good, but next time I'm getting that clam chowder bread bowl for sure! The parking can be pretty tight, and it's much easier to park in the nearby parking garage. It's close and simple to use. And of course, free. I really like this restaurant, and I'm coming back. What's nice about Sourdough & Co is that their sandwich menu is pretty basic. No frills, no extras, just your favorite lovable classic sandwiches. I ordered a ham sandwich with all the fixins and made it into a soup combo. The combo comes with a fountain drink (it's canned side during COVID) and a cup of soup. I chose their soup of the day which was their broccoli and cheddar (they have two other soup options that you can choose from). First of all, the friendliest staff EVER! These guys and gals are so sweet and cheery. It made me feel super excited for my sandwich. Secondly, I love that they have 3 different sizes for their sammies! You can get a 4", 6", or an 8". When I first saw the 4" inch option, I was like huh? It sounds super tiny, but man do they know how to stuff that bad boy up! Plus, it serves as the perfect compliment to your cup of soup if you're getting a combo. Both times I've gotten that 4 incher, and it's impressive. I get why they call themselves Sourdough & Co now. Their sourdough bread is HITTIN'!!! Sooo fresh and delicious! That ham sammy was the BOMB.COM y'all! The meat, the veggies, the house spread; everything was poppin' on that joint. It was absolutely delicious! So refreshing too. I enjoyed their broccoli cheddar soup as well. Not the best I've had, but still a solid option for something comforting. Can't forget to mention the Yelp check-in offer for a feee cookie! Oh em gee... that lemon coconut cookie is DYNAMITE! Definitely take advantage of that check-in offer because their cookies are the bidness! I loved this place so much the first time that I came back the next weekend for more! My sandwich wasn't packed to the max the second time around, but it was still made with love. Ended up ordering their turkey and salami online and picking it up to-go. You can get any sandwich made hot or cold. One thing to note is that you'll need to tell them if you want any additional veggies aside from the "standards" listed on the menu. And when you add these online, there is a slight up-charge for it. But honestly, for the quality of these sandwiches, I didn't mind paying a little bit extra. All of the staff members were COVID compliant and their interior and exterior space appeared to be cleaned and sanitized. A friend and I both ordered bowls of clam chowder, which come with 3 mini slices of sourdough bread. The soup was creamy but not too heavy feeling, and the bread warm and pleasantly soft. While it doesn't look like that large of a portion we actually both found that it was enough to satisfy. I was craving a sandwich but I really wanted one on a good roll/piece of bread. The Panera nearby is hit or miss, and subway didn't sound that good either. I decided to check out Sourdough & Co! The positives: Parking is easy; you may not get a spot right in front but there's always space in the parking lot. I also like that they have outdoor seating, so now I know we can bring our dog with us next time and sit outside! As for the food, the bread was good and they put a good amount of meat on the sandwiches. I also like that they have one of those soda machines with countless options. I got the diet cherry coke - yum! Room for improvement: I ordered my sandwich to-go, which they put in a plastic bag. I hope they will switch to paper as it's better for the environment. Even small things like this can make a difference in the long run! I would have liked more veggies on my sandwich, especially lettuce. I couldn't really see them make it, so I didn't know how much they put on the sandwich. I also have no idea if they have other toppings like olives, pickles, etc. I was only asked if I wanted a few toppings like lettuce and tomato, and the menu was a little confusing, so I didn't ask. Honestly, I was the only person there at that time and they were very quick, so I didn't get a chance to survey all the options (though I think that's a positive too!). Glad there's a sandwich spot in this plaza! I got the pastrami turkey with everything on it, added pickles and cucumber, and it was delicious! The bread was crunchy on the outside and sandwich was nicely stuffed. The ultimate test of anything from the Sourdough & Co would be if the sourdough bread is good. It was not good, it was great! That was the highlight of this $16.99 (DoorDash price) turkey, provolone, avocado, bacon, lettuce sandwich on an 8" sourdough roll. The flavor of the sandwich was decent. The problem was more in the contents for the price I paid. The turkey was located in the middle of the sandwich leaving a portion on the ends with just lettuce and mayo. The bacon and avocado was hard to detect as was the provolone. This might have been a homerun earning 5 stars if the sandwich maker would have added more contents but I guess that would have cost me $20.00 for an 8" sandwich. The roll was about as good as I have ever tasted but they need to take a page out of Parma Delicatessen playbook and load more meat and extras to justify the cost of this turkey sandwich. We might give Sourdough & Co another try but if we do, we do it at their restaurant to make sure they get it right. For this, our first experience, I give them 3 stars - just ok! PS - After I posted my review, James T. (manager) responded to let me know they weigh their meat based on size of sandwich. Thank you for notifying me of this. My review was more specific to placement of meat and the fact I was unable to detect bacon, provolone cheese and avocado. I'm a fan or sourdough breads because (1) it's crazy delicious and (2) it's easier for digestion, and good for people with sensitive tummies like me. This shop sells sandwiches in 4", 6" and 8" sizes. (Compared to other sandwich shops and delis which usually serve 5" and 10" or 6" and foot-long.) So, for the price, you're getting a slightly smaller sandwich. An 8" sandwich is your best deal at $9.99, but it costs extra to get certain condiments or toppings, such as avocado or extra meat/cheese. They also serve salads, soups, and cookies. There are 14 sandwiches on their main menu. The website seems to indicate that most are served cold, with only a few being served as hot options (e.g. the pastrami and the reuben sandwiches are both marked as served hot), however I asked and they said that you can get any of your sandwiches toasted if you'd like. I opted for the #8 Pastrami & Turkey served hot, with dijon mustard. It was super delicious! The bread is thick but soft, and it doesn't feel "dough-y" the way some places can feel. We decided to try Sourdough and Co after my hubs was curious about their french dip. I placed an online order of 2 french dips on sourdough and a 4" pastrami on sourdough. Unfortunately when I arrived 20 mins later my order was not ready. Apparently it did not print out for some reason and I had to wait a bit before my order was done. Sadly they were not apologetic at all and honestly seemed like they did not rush my order. I came back and still had to wait while everyone got their orders. FF to home finally. The pastrami was actually tasty but very small and could have used more meat. The bread is what makes this. We all agreed the bread was delicious. My hubs & daughter enjoyed their french dips but again, needed more meat. Overall sandwiches were tasty but on the pricier side for how small they are. Would I come back?
