    Fried Inoki and Wagyu nigiri
    Tracy L.

We showed up 15 minutes after they opened on a Saturday afternoon, and we were fortunate to snag the last booth seats for first seating. This is a great ramen option to have in town. We started with the fried Inoki, which was good but a bit hard to eat. The Wagyu nigiri had a very good beef flavor and was well worth the price. And my classic ramen was delicious with some duck meat added on. I love duck, and theirs is well made and so tender. The noodles are a very good thick ramen noodle, and there's more in their tall bowl than you initially think when the bowl arrives. Overall this is now my new favorite ramen place in the east bay!

So on one hand, I get the hype. But to me, it's overhyped. My husband and I have been wanting to try Mensho and Marufuku as soon as we learned of their locations in Walnut Creek. Of course when it opened, lines were super long. But we went to Mensho last night (Tuesday night) and while the restaurant was full, there was no line at 7:30 PM. Marufuku on the hand had a line where the wait was 20-30 min still. So onto the food...both my husband and I agreed the noodles are too expensive for what they are. We got their corn wings which basically is just grilled corn ribs brushed with some sauce on the top and togarashi on the side. It's good, but nothing to write home about. We both got their signature ramen. My husband kept his as is whereas I had to remove the pea sprouts and their ajitama egg since I'm pregnant. The weird part was the waitress gave me a strange tone when I said I didn't want the egg and she somehow assumed I didn't like the egg...even questioned me whether that was the case. I told her no and she looked at me like I grew two heads when I said I was pregnant (so I couldn't eat undercooked stuff). When I asked her whether the pea sprouts were raw or not, she said she didn't know either...which...I guess if you're still new, then maybe you don't know the menu as well as you should? Anyways, since my husband got everything on his bowl of noodles, turns out the pea sprouts were raw as a garnish. While the noodles were good and the broth was super creamy...there wasn't much else going for it. I get the idea of Wagyu and the smoked meats...but either the smoke was super strong or the other meats didn't have much taste. Pregnancy warning, most of the meats were cooked medium-rare to medium. The one good thing that was more memorable was their Yuzu Peach soda and that's a bottled item... Like is the overall meal good? Yes, just nothing spectacular. Is it worth the price? No. Also, for those who are pregnant, this restaurant really isn't pregnant friendly. All of their rice bowls have ikura (salmon roe) which while you could remove, doesn't change the price. One of the ramen has blue fin tuna which is also not ideal for pregnancy. Mentaiko mayo on the takoyaki and their Hokkaido seafood cup as well as sushi generally shouldn't be consumed during pregnancy. That said, would I come back to try other items? Potentially, but it would definitely have to be post pregnancy. But I could also do without the judgement from the waitress on what I can and can't eat...I get not everyone knows the rules on pregnancy safe food, but it's not like I expect to be questioned either... Ambiance wise, it's loud. Almost too loud to have a conversation properly....

This place blew my expectations away. I'm pretty sure their original ramen is the best bowl of ramen I've had in the states and I'd even wager that it's a contender for ramen shops in Japan, and I've been to Japan multiple times. The scallop and Ikura nigiri were amazing too. They also had plenty of vegan / vegetarian options too.

Mensho is my fave ramen spot, so I was super excited to see one open closer to me in Walnut Creek! I went the day after their Soft Opening and lined up at 4:30 before they opened at 5. There were already a few parties lined up, but we fortunately were able to sat in the first round. First of all, service was impeccable!! Everyone was so kind and super attentive, making sure my party was satisfied with everything. The ramen noodles as usual were a chewy, slight firm texture. Its texture and shape holds the flavor of the broth well! The lobster miso ramen has a slight seafood flavor with a creamy broth. The signature toripaitan is my favorite to get, and this time around it was yummy! I will say the flavor was creamier tasting than Oakland where I found the broth to be a bit more savory. The trio of meats in it were so tender and had a smoky flavor just like their Oakland location. Overall, this new location is beautiful! Really excited about this new location and I can't wait to be back!

An outstanding, mind blowing ramen spot. Walnut Creek is genuinely a better spot since Mensho opened its doors here. I thought I'd had good ramen, and then I got the signature ramen with a side of OG spicy sauce and wow. The noodle pull- delicious, plentiful, nice texture. The 3 meats - duck, wagyu, pork, all delicious. The toppings- divine, the crunchy chips or whatever they were? Gave it a nice mouth feel. The broth- amazing, creamy, balanced. It is not spicy at all so if you're someone that likes a little kick you'd definitely need a side of spicy sauce. IMO it made it taste even better. I also had some of the Lamb Ramen and it was surprisingly very, very, tasty. Not too lamby at all and the middle eastern spices were really there. Great toppings as well. If they gave me that by accident I would not complain. Also fell in love with the Yuzu Peach drink they had 10/10 Seating - decent amount of seating, nice decor that makes you feel like you were transported for a minute. The staff was great, line went by pretty fast since they try to accommodate tables of 2 or 3 the quickest. I seriously can't wait to come back. Amazing job Mensho!

Wifey decided to take me out for an early birthday dinner without the kids. Gave me the option of either of the newly opened Ramen spots in WC (Marufuku vs Mensho). Picked here and we'd have to say it was good but not great. With all the hype surrounding its opening, we expected a wait, showed up and waited in line about 30 which wasn't too bad. It was pretty hot waiting in line with the sun beating down but staff were nice enough to hand out ice water while waiting. They're quick to turn tables quickly. Once we were seated at the bar, since it was just 2 of us, after a quick look at the menu, they took our order pretty quick. We ended up sharing a Signature ramen, Lobster Miso Ramen (WC exclusive), A5 Wagyu Uni Ikura nigiri, A5 Wagyu Truffle Nigiri, and Nori Calamari. The nigiri dishes were delicious, highly recommend. But both ramens were both just kinda mid. Both broths were good but not great. Smoked chashu on the signature is a great idea but for some reason the smokiness was kind of off putting on the flavors in the bowl. The noodles however were delicious. Overall it's a good but not great ramen spot. Considering that this place isn't cheap and all the accolades listed I did expect better ramen. It's unfortunate to look back at the meal and have the nigiri dishes be the highlight. It could be that my palette is drawn more to Tonkotsu based broths than chicken, but there are better (while also being cheaper) options in the Bay like Ramen Nagi (with some modifications you select), Santouka, Tsujita (for Tsukemen) and Wadaya (for Mazamen). Have yet to try Marufuku's new location in WC, but if it's similar to the location in Redwood City, probably will be our to go to for Ramen in WC.

    Lobster miso

Had the lobster miso which I've never seen at the other mensho locations and it was phenomenal. Just a heads up that this location is new so arrive early if you want to minimize wait times but service was fast, extremely polite and the food was amazing as always. I think this lobster miso stacks up well against the signature and garlic knock out! A welcome addition to the line up and glad there's a location closer to me as well. Will definitely be back soon!

So happy to have Mensho downtown! For their soft opening, everything seemed pretty organized. I came around 5:30 and we waited about two hours, but were expecting a wait since their other established locations are typically around an hour wait. We ordered the signature ramen & enoki appetizer and everything tasted great. The only thing I'm hoping they consider is to add a shoyu or other lighter broth ramen. Everything they currently have one the menu is a creamy-type broth and very heavy.

The stars are aligned! Figured we should walk by and see if Mensho open yet.. turns out today is their soft opening! We waited a bit over an hour in line (some people waited for 2+). I'd give SF location a slight edge in terms of flavors. The signature ramen here has some slight tweaks, but it didn't take away from the smokey highlight. I'd say it's definitely a bit more expensive here but hey it's Walnut Creek. Overall, great bowl of ramen and super happy today worked out! Apparently the owner and founder is also here in person for the soft opening.. big congrats!

Good but overrated. This menu is different than the one in SF or at least from the last time we went a year ago. It's definitely elevated and fancier to fit the Walnut Creek crowd but I think it takes away from the quality of each individual ingredient. Every bowl is just a little too gimmicky and extra? The ambiance is nice, service is attentive despite how busy it is and there's a decent amount of seating although definitely expect a wait these first few months but I think I prefer a simpler bowl of ramen. Good but really not worth the hype and price.

We went here on nice Saturday evening to try out this much anticipated Ramen place that had recently opened. There must have been a Car show because there were many Classic cars "cruising" up and down Main St. The line was long but it went by quickly. The Staff were conscience and offered cold water and also gave us a menu while we waited in line. The line was quick and we got to meet fellow foodies and met other food enthusiasts. We only had to wait 30-40 minutes and we were sat at a 4 top table with a partition between us and the other party. We had started with the Nori Calamari; Blue label Sake; and a Hot green tea. I wanted the Lobster Ramen but it was out. I had ordered a Spiced Lamb with Wagyu strips and Pickled Daicon as add ons. Wifey had GKO Ramen and it was both filling and flavorful. Our Servers were really nice and very helpful when it came to ordering. The Lamb Spiced Ramen was a bit spicy but definitely filling, as well. We would like to go back when the hype dies down so we can try more of their Ramen soups and other items.

We arrived just before Mensho opened at 4:00 p.m. and waited in line for about 15 minutes. As the last party of four to be seated before the restaurant reached capacity, we felt fortunate to make it in before the next wave of guests had to wait for tables to open up. We especially appreciated the staff coming outside to offer cold water to those waiting in line - a thoughtful touch on a warm day. Once seated, we were promptly provided with utensils (including children's plastic utensils and bowls), a plates, napkins, water, and menus. After placing our order, we enjoyed the garlic edamame and karaage chicken while waiting for our entrées. To our surprise, the staff also brought out complimentary corn for the table, which was incredibly kind and appreciated. The kids loved the corn and the chicken was perfectly crispy. The Wagyu truffle nigiri was a standout - rich, flavorful, and practically melted in our mouths. The ramen took the longest to arrive, but it was worth the wait. I ordered the Walnut Creek-exclusive lobster ramen along with two ajitama eggs, and it was absolutely delicious. My husband enjoyed the classic ramen, while our children were happy with miso soup and extra ramen noodles. The noodles were noticeably softer than what we're accustomed to in Japan (or even at Hiroshi across the street), but the broths were deeply flavorful and satisfying. Throughout our visit, the staff remained warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making for a very enjoyable dining experience.

Came on Friday evening around 7:45pm. Line was slightly long, no waitlist. Waited about 15 minutes. Secret: you get seated faster if you're a party of 2! (Most of the tables inside are set for 2.) staff was friendly, didn't wait long to order or to get food. Food is a little pricey but worth it! My bf and I both got the signature ramen and shared the corn wings. Broth was thick and soo flavorful omg. And the chashu was soo tender! Will definitely be back soon to try other things. Highly recommend!

Was looking for a good hot pot place, and was in the Concord area…read more So I'll start with what I didn't love, but I did think it was a great gimmick for the area. The music was way too loud, almost like a night club - where you have to practically raise your voice to talk. It's great for guys, where their voice projects, but it's more difficult for anyone that has a bit higher. There are no tongs (but they will give you extra chopsticks). Also, the individual induction units are right on the table, instead of inset. This causes the potential of hot soup base spilling as a more likely experience for clumsy people. For the thing I love about this place? First... value for money. $29.99 per person for all-you-can-eat hotpot? This is amazing in this age where an entree is like $25-30. Appetizers are ordered 2 at a time, and meats are 6 at a time. Meats only come one on a thin tray, which holds about 4-6 slices. So you'll be ordering other helpings, since there are I believe 5 beef selections, and a pork and chicken selection (7) total. The middle of the restaurant is a large bar where you get everything that isn't a meat. The selection of vegetables, and noodles are pretty vast, and almost always refilled. The seafood area has shrimp, clams, tilapia, and mussels. Sauces area also on the sides which makes it pretty much an on-going motion. It's not the high-end of hot pot by any means, but the ambience that they're projecting works for the area that it's in and how they compete with the rest of the restaurants in the area. But for the money? I'd go here. We did sit in a side-middle area where it wasn't a booth. However, they made sure to separate out the seating so that if you were a group of 3, they situated in opposite ends to create space. That attentiveness of spacing actually created a better atmosphere which was a small thing, but a smart thing. Love that they actually celebrate birthdays with banging of pots, and wishing well. It's something that is fun for groups and definitely nice if you happen to be celebrating a birthday! Definitely will come back.
