I knew about Habitat Restores, but never put it together that this store was relatively close by. For my small apt. life, I can't really purchase many of the larger furniture items, and prices seem a bit on the higher for me if I compare to other typical thrift stores. But I saw some really unique dining sets, which I WOULD buy if I lived in a much larger space! They have stricter standards for furniture they'll take, so prices are higher but still super affordable. It's laid out bit like showroom warehouse. The back corner has all the 'contractor' type items for building, painting, and adding smaller finishes. I would return to see if any smaller items pop up, and maybe some of the artwork up in the front of store. read more

I didn't end up buying anything this time around, but I will definitely be back. Employees are super friendly and helpful. 1-Star Review for Habitat for Humanity Oxnard Well, that was the last time I try to be a good person. With genuine joy, I scheduled a donation pickup with Habitat for Humanity Oxnard. I thought, "Hey, let me give back. Let me help someone in need. Let me not throw perfectly good furniture into a landfill." Silly me. That moment of joy quickly turned into a scene straight out of a low-budget reality show. The pickup guy showed up angry at the world -- shouting that they "don't take mattresses" before I could even say hello. (Spoiler: I never tried to donate the mattress. It just happened to be near the furniture.) Next, he scolded me for taking the drawers out of a dresser... apparently, I committed a cardinal sin by trying to make his job easier. I politely mentioned the bed hardware was bagged in a Ziploc. Not even a full minute later, he barks, "Where are the bolts?!" I calmly said, "In the Ziploc bag... right there with the hardware." That's when he snapped back nastily that "there are instructions on the website for a reason, and you should learn to read." Yes. From someone who clearly took a hard left turn at "life decisions" and crashed into "poor attitude," being lectured like I was a first grader. I'm pretty sure the only diploma he's seen was on a rerun of Matlock. And here's the kicker: I had a folded $100 bill in my pocket, ready to tip the driver as a thank-you for picking up the donation. Instead? I kept that money and bought myself a margarita at lunch. Cheers to never donating to this organization again. So here's the deal: If you're thinking about donating to Habitat for Humanity Oxnard, maybe... don't. Unless you're into verbal abuse and regret. Light your stuff on fire. Toss it off a cliff. Hand it to a raccoon. All better options. I've never donated anything to Habitat for Humanity, so my review is for purchasing/shopping only. Habits for Humanity Restore is a secondhand store. You'll find couches, bookshelves, dressers, nightstands, doors, tools, ovens, sinks, and more here. I've purchased a high quality bookshelf here before and I've also found a really cool medium-sized treasure chest to store important documents. I've purchased several other things throughout the years. Prices can sometimes start out quite high for furniture, etc, when they first arrive, but after a little time, the items will become discounted. It's fun to check out the what they have in stock and if you come often enough, you'll find what you're looking for. The only thing is that you have to be the one to make sure you have an appropriate vehicle and person/persons to help move the item(s) you bought. Frequently, an employee will help you move your item into your vehicle, which is very nice of them. With just a little soap, water, and maybe even a coat of paint, you can bring life to a dull looking, secondhand item and make it look brand new again at a fraction of the cost of a new item! I contacted HH, the Oxnard location, to donate furniture that's we're not using. I made the appointment via their website (not the express but standard which is free, though they ask for a small fuel contribution, which I was happy to do) They arrived at the appointed date earlier than I expected...I was sent a notification and everything. My only comment beyond the service is they took only 1 of my two pieces of furniture. The leather chair, which they opted not to take, wasn't damaged, clean but had some wear...the reason we wanted to re-home it is because we were wanting a change...but it was still in good functional shape...their reasoning for not taking it "it's not salable" which doesn't make any sense to me because someone who doesn't have a chair wouldn't mind something like this for cheap. HH is getting this for free (from me), any money they get is something right ? Despite me sending a photo of the chair and the other piece of furniture...the end result still seems illogical to me. I do recommend the organization and their mission. Keep in mind if your are donating anything it has to be deemed "salable" read more

I recently read a review that mentioned the delivery service and let me tell you, it's definitely a you get what you paid for situation. Having used both the gentlemen one was a circus with my furniture barely strapped with rope on his little red pickup truck. After alot of struggles and a few dinged walls this gentleman and his older helper finally managed to get my items inside. The other guy cisco, he came in by himself and had my recliner inside in less than 5 minutes. Ill definitely pay the extra bucks for peace of mind and reliability read more

Everything!!! I had a Dining room set with chairs and a buffet to donate. The person I spoke to originally at HFH Ventura County was rude and almost didn't want to be bothered. He finally gave the website to go to to schedule a pickup. I completed this and gave them a credit card for $169. It asked if there were steps and I answered yes. So now HFH has a 3rd party do the pickups. I got assigned 4 or 5 different ones that scheduled and never showed up. You can't talk to anyone the dealing with the 3rd party coordinator is all by email. Finally yesterday, after close to 6 weeks my stuff got picked up. I know HFH is a good and worthwhile organization but apparently each office operates separately. I will NEVER give anything to them again. read more

Donated several pieces of good quality wood furniture (bedroom set, end tables, decorative console, large couch, kitchen tables & chairs, etc. Pickup was easy to schedule; they called again later a few days before to reconfirm and again, just before and same day, to update arrival time. We had everything staged in the open garage or the front room in a one story house. We tried to make it as simple as possible for them to move it. The two men were on time, friendly, professional and efficient. My brother helped out a bit as some pieces were quite heavy or large. Altogether a very rewarding experience. I watched as a woman purchased multiple items and the two workers tried to get out of helping take these large items. This is a tough review. I have been both a donor and a purchasing customer at the Oxnard, CA Habitat re-Store. And as a customer I can say that the quality and selection of their items is generally pretty good, albeit high on the price-end. Customer service and assistance is pretty much zero. But if you know what you're looking for and are able to completely help yourself from beginning to end - then the place is OK. But as someone who also donates to this Habitat re-store I can indeed confirm that some of the staff are indeed rude and insulting - especially the arrogant middle-eastern dude who works in the receiving area. I just bite my tongue and take a deep breath when dealing with him. Not worth being confrontational when you're trying to support a good charity. read more

I used to volunteer at this place when they were located off of Rice. So today when I decided to go to get something I was confused as to why I was being sent to a different location. This new place they moved to is awesomesauce. It's roughly the same size as the previous location, but much more organized and has a better collection. When you enter, you see a bunch of furniture against the wall. And when you get to the main area, you see their collection. They have a bunch of stuff. I dropped by today to get a door for a friend who is doing a DIY project. What I appreciated was that all the doors they have have the measurements already written on it. I came prepared with a measuring tape, but didn't even end up using it. There were a good number of people working. Mostly men. And all very helpful. This is a great place to get stuff for your DIY projects. The door I got ended up costing me just $10. Quite a steal. read more

I scheduled furniture pickup to donate. I went through the quote process and expected to pay close to what was estimated. However, when the items were picked up they were not carefully handled, was overcharged for one item, and some items included extra recycling charges based on false information at their end. I contacted customer service but was refused an adjustment even though I was clearly deceived. I was told that all the item charges should have been presented at the time of pick up, but the crew would not convey that to me at the time even when I asked them about it. Very dissatisfied and I will not donate to this company again. Update: Since I wrote this I discovered that a third party is used by HFH ReStore Oxnard for priority pick up option. The company is named ReSupply AKA Ventura Junk Removal. Even though there is a free pickup option directly with HFH, I missed that when booking. Live and learn! read more

I had a sofa that was used but in decent shape. ... no stains or rips etc. also an exercise bike which was new. They came 4 hours early and then refused my donations because they were used!! Are you kidding..., who gives away new furniture?? I guess people richer than me. The man driving the truck was rude !! My aunt, uncle, and cousin had died and I was cleaning out their home and called for a pickup. Immediately upon arriving they were choosy about what they would take. The person I spoke to to schedule the pickup mentioned that the movers had final say, but neglected to mention that the mirrors had to be removed from dressers etc. so I'm quickly doing that while they twiddle there thumbs. They pull the leather couch I was donating out on to the driveway and then they decided it wasn't plush enough so they LEFT IT in the driveway.THEY BROKE a lampshade trying to carry a lamp out to the truck at which point they handed the lamp back (apparently it was no longer worthy). The head guy was rude, argumentative, and treated me with NO HUMANITY. Many people who donate furniture are grieving a death and I little kindness would be appreciated. I'm not asking for them to make exceptions for people, but I didn't need to be "little lady" belittled or told that most people have weeks to prepare (I had a day because they fit me in to a canceled appointment). I'm bereaved two weeks before Christmas, I didn't need people to make me feel worse. read more

This place became a rip off! Not worth it anymore. It used to be a great spot to rummage through old stuff and miss match what you needed. Today I came here for door knobs, the were priced at $3 a set. Little guy at the register tells me they are $10 a set. Sorry but $50 for USED, scratched, dirty, mismatched door knobs, missing the striker and latching piece is not worth it, Home Depot sells 5x sets, brand new, complete and matching for $60. They want $700 for a torn up couch, $300 for scratched up bed frames without cross slats. Screw this place. read more

I completed a priority pick up because I had a couple items that I was not sure the donation pick up would accept because of their size, and I had a time crunch to get out of the storage unit. Overall, this was a good experience, I am happy that I used the prior pick up because it was good to know that they were going to take it all. The drivers were also friendly and did a good job. If I had more time, I probably would have started with the "free" pick up for the items HFH would accept first, then the priority pick up to get rid of the remaining items. A couple items to be aware of so you are not surprised: 1) They had a 4 hour window for the pick up, which is understandable. I contacted ReSupply the day before to confirm they would call me first so I could be at the storage unit when they got there. They said the driver would give me a notice when they were on their way. They called when they were at the gate. Luckily, I was only a couple minutes away, so not a big deal. 2) I put in a detailed list of the items as instructed in the comments when scheduling on the website. The drivers never got that and were surprised by the number and side of a couple pieces of furniture. 3) As they did not have the list of items I entered, this also meant the estimated price was meaningless. The drivers complete their own entry and sizes and send it to the office. It was mostly the same, but they rated a couple items as 2-person carries that were pretty clearly 1-person (since only 1 person carried it to the truck). But just go in knowing the estimate is definitely a very rough estimate. 4) They did add a recycling charge to 3 items ($20 each), but did not disclose which items those were. None of the furniture that I had was on the list on the website. Overall good, and I would use them again given the right situation. It could definitely be more transparent though. read more

I am a firm believer in the purpose of Habitat for Humanity, but I will never again call them for a pickup. We had furniture for pickup after a death in the family. We called the ReStore to schedule pickup and itemized the furniture. So they knew what to pick up. There was never any conversation about restrictions on what they would pick up. I needed to be out of the apartment the scheduled pickup day to avoid additional rent. When the workers arrived the first thing they started whining about was how little they were paid, relative to "movers." Then they started telling me all the items they would not take--a dresser that would not fit in the elevator, chairs that had worn fabric, a couch with a stain. They knew there was a dresser with attached mirror but they had no tools to take the mirror off. So they left, having taken two end tables and a coffee table, leaving everything else. Turns out, the dresser did fit in the elevator. Another company picked it up. The real problem is bad communication on the initial call and an attitude problem by the workers. I never would have scheduled this pickup if I had known about all these restrictions. I would have called someone else. read more

I agree with Scott F's review on 9/1/19. I called Habitat for Humanity to pick up two dressers. They are two very well made pieces of furniture. Each and every drawer opens and closes on the sliders like they were brand new. The only thing wrong were slight discolorations from water glass marks, one on the big dresser and a few on the smaller dresser. I was not present when someone came to pick up the furniture, but all I got was a piece of paper stating they were damaged, worn and stained. I was shocked that they did not pick them up. Habitat for Humanity's website says they will take "gently used furniture". Do they want brand new furniture? Was the guy just lazy? I'm sure anyone in need would have really appreciated these dressers. I will never consider supporting Habitat for Humanity again. read more
