There's a lot to be said about outlet design stores that not only consistently overprice their furniture BUT employ rude sales staff who do not acknowledge customers coming in the door, walking past them in the store, and then leaving! I was with my husband who took a comfortable seat at the front while I perused the showroom. Mind you another couple came in with us and they were not welcomed either! There were five sales associates at the register and not one single person spoke to me and I was actually looking at two pieces. Customer service is still a thing and whoever is managing this particular store should be embarrassed! I bet not one person made their daily sales goal today lol! Anyway! I needed a new office chair and wanted the Aeron Herman Miller chair however I didn't want to pay over $2k for an office chair that probably wouldn't get much use. So happy to have found this DWR outlet. They had a wide selection of Aeron chairs from fully loaded to basic configurations. I wish they had more grey colors vs the standard black but for the price, no complaints! Staff were friendly and very helpful! Even helped load it into my car. I love the beautiful designer furniture at affordable prices. I was hoping that they would have this Heracleum Pendant II (the small one) this week, and fortunately, they had 3 of them. One was Rose Gold / Copper metal color, more similar to actual twig color. They were having a 25% off sticker price this weekend, which made it easy to make the decision to buy things. Onur was our salesperson. He was quite personable, with a good sense of humor. Onur helped us buy a set of shelves and a mustard Knot Ottoman and the Heracleum Pendant. I came here after a long drive and when I entered the store no one bothered greeting me and a few sales people just looked at me like I had something on my face. As I was looking through the furniture not a single person offered to help me. I picked out a couple of things and had to carry all of it to the counter to get checked out. As expected no one offered to help carry the furniture to my car. No one said bye. I honestly never felt that awkward shopping for furniture before. I miss Melanie. The service here has gone downhill. The staff can't keep up with the over-the-phone services and don't create a "wish list" for you, even though they say they will. There is no customer service or curation of a personalized experience despite this store being really designer and high-end. I bought an expensive couch and the text conversation with Dre was obviously cut and pasted into the messaging app. There's no personalization or customer service and now that I bought the couch there is ZERO communication about the delivery I also asked for, despite repeated requests for updates. How can I leave zero stars review for this place. I have been buying here for years from Melanie and Jenny. I called in today to have the Companibili held for me and spoke to Karina. She said ok and proceeded to ask me several questions which included my contact info. I got a text message from a lady named Dre with the pictures of what I was purchasing. Drove an hour to the store only to be told that they held it for someone else and its pending payment. Horrible staff. Had an eerily similar experience to Nick A. Called right when they opened to confirm an item was available. Was told yes it was and I said great I want it. Sales told me perfect let me just send you some photos since it's final sale. Got the photos and said yep looks good still want it only to be told in the span of 10 minutes someone else has somehow put it on hold. I don't understand why someone else would be allowed to put it on hold in the span of 10 minutes when I had said I wanted to purchase it. Called the store to discuss and whoever I spoke with had the nastiest attitude and in so many words said too bad so sad we don't care bye. No sorry this shouldn't have happened this way, no explanation how something I was in the process of purchasing and was told was available had gone on hold in the span of 10 minutes. I can get over not getting the item but the customer service and general disregard for how anyone would feel after having something they really wanted ripped out from under them left a bad taste in my mouth and now I will likely not shop at a DWR outlet or the regular DWR ever again. read more

If you are in the market for high end Mid-Century Modern furniture designs (the same items as in their regular catalog), but are shopping on a budget or don't like paying retail, Design Within Reach Outlet is worth a look. I went looking for the DWR Outlet in Palm Springs before only to find out it had closed. I stumbled upon this location while I happened to see the sign off the freeway. The store has a diverse selection of chairs, tables and lighting but you do need to thoroughly examine each piece. Discounts range from 30%-80% off from the retail price, but for the most part, the more damage or blemishes the item has, the lower the price. I saw an excellent office chair that was 30% off of retail and did not notice any major or minor defects. I'm guessing it was just standard return item. A 50% off office chair had a loose plastic clip that did not affect the seating comfort or functionality of the chair. An 80% table lamp was cosmetically thrashed with chipped paint and chipped plastic all over. This is an outlet store so do not expect perfection. But you could find items in practically new condition, those that have slight cosmetic damage and those that have more major damage. Check carefully and know what level of imperfection you are comfortable with. Every month or two they do run sales on weekends that may give an additional discount off of the outlet price (usually 10%-20% off). I live a couple of hours away, but if I was looking for something that retailed for over $1000, I wouldn't hesitate to do a little drive on a weekend to poke around. And hey, there's another furniture outlet store in the same center so you can knock out two birds with one stone! read more

In mid-November, my husband and I visited DWR Outlet in Oxnard and purchased a 2 Leaf Gala Extension Dining Table. The table was discounted at about $2,000 from retail price due to a minor scratch on the edge of the table. Upon shipment, DWR evidently poorly packaged the dining table with a single layer of plastic covering prior to sending through their 3rd party courier, UKAY Delivery. The package arrived at our home with a 28" significant scratch across the middle of the table, consistent with the gash on the plastic covering. We received no response when attempting to contact the rep we purchased from. Their manager informed us that once the furniture is packaged and leaves the facility, "all responsibility is out of their hands"; stated it was non-refundable, no additional discounts would be given, and redirected us back to UKAY without suggesting any solutions or provide the white glove service that DWR claims to have. Local furniture repair companies quoted us on average $2,000-$2,600 to repair the table back to its original condition prior to shipment. Long story short, it took 5 weeks of continuous back and forth with UKAY to adequately resolve the issue, with no input or suggestions for solution from DWR. I would urge everyone to be careful when buying through this outlet, especially for items that you cannot carry out on your own. read more

Wish we made the trek to this DWR Outlet sooner! I've been telling my husband about it, but it took a while for him to finally agree to make the drive. We had visited their retail store in Costa Mesa several times over the last couple of years and saw things that we liked. But we ended up settling for a few items from their neighboring store, Room and Board, since their prices were more within our budget at the time. We finally drove to the Outlet this past weekend, and I was like a kid in a candy store! It was like one big sale and I would have replaced everything in my home if I could. We almost purchased a sofa, but decided to wait for another color to possibly show up. Some of the pieces that we saw had scratches or some minor damage, so be sure to check carefully before making a purchase. I ended up getting an Eames molded side chair with walnut legs for my home office. It retails for $495 and I picked it up for $322. I never thought I'd be so happy with a plastic chair, but it's comfortable and iconic. Heather approached us while we were in the store, and she was so pleasant and helpful. We provided her with our contact information in case the sofa of our dreams were to show up! If and when it does, we did see some recliners and side chairs that would coordinate perfectly. read more

Per instructions from Herman Miller, I contacted the store for warranty repair. I was told outlet products have no warranty. (?!) Even at the outlet, this chair cost $800. The Sales Rep (Kathryn) was not friendly at all, they said they worked for the corporate, so they would let you see and pick up items as you pleased. They just watched the store, nothing else. If you plan to ship items from here, be very careful. Instructions are not cleared, they have a sheet indicating the rate but that is not the right rate until you call the shipping company directly. We bought an Eames lounger about a month ago--which was a big purchase for us. When we got home we realized that we had not received the paperwork. I called, and they said this chair didn't have it. You can still authenticate it with the stamp under the chair, though. Still, would have like to have been told it came without paperwork when I was in the store buying it. I expect that kind of professionalism, especially when buying such an expensive piece of furniture. The sales woman knew that we wanted a second one so we could have a matching set, so a month later she emails me on a Friday saying she has a second chair in the same wood and same leather treatment and color! I call her and tell her we want it, but then she calls me back to say that it isn't actually available because someone is returning it--which is strange since it's a no return policy--and it isn't available now until the next day. She tells me this as I am driving from LA to Oxnard. When I balk, she threatens me that if I don't want it she has list of people who do. Not classy. Anyways, she figures it out and we get there to buy it. There are two white leather chairs in different woods on the floor and she consults her records and tells me that I bought the walnut. I'm unsure, but now she's put the pressure on (a long list of other buyers, etc) so I bring it home and. . . it doesn't match the chair that we have, which is the other wood--palisander. So since it's an "all sales are final" and we believed her notes, we now have two mismatched chairs. They are pretty comfie, though! Would I shop here again? Not sure. If you are going to buy from this place I highly suggest you proceed with caution. My "used car salesman" associate Kathryn will tell you whatever you want to hear to make a sale. I purchased a couch and dining room table from them. When I was in the store I asked Kathryn what was wrong with the couch. She said nothing, "it was just used in a photo shoot that's why it's here". When I got the couch the delivery company had a laundry list of things wrong with it that wasn't disclosed to me. Obviously there is a reason why its being sold at a discount, but at least be honest with the consumer. I thoroughly inspected the couch at the store but there is no way for me to have inspected underneath it - it's a large heavy couch. Kathryn made it seem as if she was doing me a favor when I would ask her questions. I was also looking to buy a media unit and it was like pulling teeth to have Kathryn get the guys from the back to put a little pledge on try to remove the scratches. "We don't have pledge, don't worry the scratches will come out". Two minutes later the pledge magically appeared. Word of advice. Inspect every square inch of the item you buy. DON'T take the word of the salespeople because they will lie to make a sale. Very disappointing experience from a corporate store. read more

Abysmal customer service. We are long time DWR clients and bought numerous pieces from the Pasadena store as well as this outlet. Several years ago this outlet was run like a high end furniture store with excellent customer service. Since then, it has become a ghetto garage sale with shady practices and zero customer service. Something has been fundamentally wrong at this outlet and their internal politics recently. The information you will receive each time you call to inquire about availability of a specific piece will heavily depend on which associate you talk to. One person will tell you "we have not had that piece in months." The other person will tell you "it was just sold 10 days ago." And that's just the beginning. They have separate wait lists of customers with each sales associate. If a piece you are interested in comes in and the sales associate you are waitlisted with is away or misses it, you will not be notified. Their process is clearly flawed since there is no combined wait list (according to the sensitive sales rep I talked to). When I tried to explain my concern about this process to her, she proceeded to say I am being rude. If customer's pointing out a process flaw means she/he is being rude, then I am not surprised to see why this shop has slid from a respected furniture store to a garage sale. I'd much rather go to Herman Miller directly, although they own DWR, at least I will get the experience I pay for. read more

I came into this store with a few friends shopping for a few office chairs. Naturally, we sat on the office chairs testing them out. An older, blonde lady by the name of Katheryn (receipt says Katheryn), who worked there, was sitting near us. She was barely helpful and very pushy. While we continued browsing the chairs, she walked over to the checkout desk where there were two other employees. She told them something and now Katheryn, and one of the other employees, continued to stare at us for a few more minutes. Granted, this could be an honest misunderstanding, however, her demeanor, the other 1-star reviews, and our personal experiences with being monitored shopping at "pricier" stores tells me that she did not trust us as customers and was telling her employees to keep an eye on us. We ended up buying two office chairs at over $1k, and even during the transactions she was barking orders. She commanded my friend to rip the tag off the chair. She was not asking him politely, nor was she treating my friend like customer/guest but like an employee (even then, it's not okay to talk to employees in this manner). Before reaching the checkout desk, my friend wanted one final second to review the chair to ensure he is happy with it. Of course, she demanded his credit card before reaching the checkout desk and before the final sale number was presented to him. Needless to say, our experience here was horrible simply because of Katheryn. She had a rude demeanor, she was not welcoming, and she clearly did not have respect for us as customers or people. Why? My guess is that we were four brown men in our 20's. read more

As an architect, I am often stumped by the slow responses and bs from reps but Janet is quick to respond via text and even sent my client missing parts personally after the chandelier was installed. So although purchases are final sale the brands and material are so high quality, they fall into the "repairable" category. Melanie went above and beyond in my purchase. Great communication and patience. Everyone at this store is extremely helpful, the maintenance guy as well as the manager. I hope I can come back and get more furniture soon. read more

My husband and I will not shop in there because of Heather the Outlet Manager. My husband is black & feels she is prejudice. She sits at the front counter and never gets up to help us & has ignored us when we have asked for help. She picks and chooses who she wants to help. We have been in a few times in the last 3 months and witnessed the same rude & unprofessional behavior from her. I went back in on her day off to pick something up and I over heard two sales girls that work there talking about her and it was really bad and unacceptable how they were treated. I then went in another store in the Outlets and the woman who helped me said she used to work there and she is a horrible boss and the turnover of employees is very high. How does she keeps her job? We have been lusting after Eames lounge chairs so we finally took the plunge. At this outlet you will save at least $1000 per chair. The rub is that they have all been returned, so it might have a scratch or something. But on most you can't see any damage. But. . .one of the ones we bought had a major flaw. The pressed wood was coming apart at the arm rest and we were afraid that the arm would eventually just fall off. This was way more than a cosmetic scratch--it was a defective chair. Even though they sell them "as is" I spoke with Avi, the manager, and she told me to bring it in so they could fix it. When she saw it, she also realized how defective it was and gave us a new one on the spot! Pretty happy with the customer service and outcome. Some people should not forget that they come to the outlet to snatch the best possible deal which this store provides better than any other one, fact! Yes, the best deals you could ever get. The older long haired blonde woman with pink tinted glasses made my group uncomfortable with her tone, demeanor, and constant surveillance over us. While testing out the chairs she stared at us at multiple points. She walked over to the counter to talk with others and continued staring in our direction. Feeling singled out, the condescending responses, and rude orders while there made everything worse. Two chairs were bought and even while paying she was rude and pushy. Her name is Kathryn, had to check the receipt. As she wasnt wearing a nametag. Shocker. Have not felt this type of judgment in a very long time.
