Habitat is a beautifully designed vet that doesn't feel like a vet. Lots of foliage and they have a nice little store in the lobby. I've come here a few times and I have been happy with the quality of service. They are a little pricey but they seemed to be open to give approx quotes over the phone which I appreciated. I'm not 100% about this, but it appeared as though one of their exam rooms had an alternate, private exit. I think some vets are starting to implement this for families that have to put their animal down and don't want to walk through the waiting room in front of other people after the procedure is done. I'm not certain if this is actually a thing, but maybe ask them because if it is, I think it's a nice and thoughtful touch. read more

Having been a client with my bunnies since Covid, I had the recent disappointing and unacceptable visit with Dr. Lee. I could tell my Lop Ear who lives outside in a run with his buddy was definitely in trouble on Monday morning. He didn't come eagerly for his treat and was huddled down. Because weather was bad, I decided to bring him inside so I could watch him. I called Habitat to see if they could get him in. Dr. Lee was in surgery all day. The office person suggested I call Boise Animal Health and Urgent Care which I did. The person taking the call said they weren't expert bunny vets but, after I explained his critical symptoms, said to bring him in. Dr Jenkins was amazing. She listened to what treatment I was giving him based on what I reviewed on line. His condition appeared to be GI Stasis which can be deadly within 24 hours. They X-Rayed him, gave him a thorough exam, including a subcutaneous injection for moisture, some pain meds and told me they would email records to Habitat. Scout, my bunny continued to improve. On Thursday I had a previously scheduled routine visit at Habitat for my canary. They were very busy and I was thankfully immediately escorted to a room with my canary. Dr. Lee entered about 20 minutes late and did the routine visit with my canary. I had told the tech that I would like to have a few minutes to chat with Dr Lee about my rabbit Scout. I was told they would charge me for an additional visit. I said fine. When I tried to tell Dr. Lee about Scout she told me that she couldn't advise me about anything because they didn't have a file on him....which was correct. Emails received for patients not on file went to la la land (my words). I was on the verge of tears. Never mind that I had taken my old bunny Clove to their previous location for ultrasound and other pain relieving procedures during Covid. I never went inside the clinic. I met the tech Angie in the parking lot there who said he was the gentlest bunny ever. Never mind that I had taken in a bunny, Peter, who I found abandoned in the North End, and took him to Habitat to be neutered. He died coming out of anesthesia. I believe Dr. Lee was the surgeon. Never mind that Dr. Everett did minor surgery on my 4+ pound Netherland Dwarf Tinamarie. I was so worried about past experience with anesthesia. She did fine. And yesterday Dr.Lee couldn't spend five minutes with me about Scout because there was no file? Luckily the kind tech said I could set up a file for Scout on my way out which I did. The desk person set up the file and said she would request Scout's records immediately from Boise Animal Health and Urgent Care. I called BAHUC this morning. They said they had not received a request from Habitat but had their email address, would send records and copy me. I messaged Habitat. They received them. And that is the end. Sorry this review is so lengthy. I just wanted to share my frustration trying to get help with a clinic that I trusted for years with my bunnies. read more

This place is in Barber Valley and appears to be fairly new. We had gotten ourselves a little rescue pup recently and decided to take her here, mainly because their website claims a holistic approach to treatment. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that's the case, and it just wasn't the place for us. Its newer facility, very modern/new and inviting. Seemed like the right choice. The people at the desk are very inviting, and gave our dogs lots of treats and attention. There are a few issues I have with this place, though. On our first visit, we saw a vet technician (not a doctor) for her check up. We lean a bit towards holistic and natural medicine, so when the heartworm thing came up, we were skeptical about the preventative medication since it has so many scary side effects. We wanted to try something else, but the tech went on and on, using scare tactics to try to get us to use the preventatives instead of working with us. She was very graphic, and kept repeating herself. Needless to say, she made me feel very uncomfortable. Why would this not be a proactive conversation if they are so holistic and naturally based, as they claim? Why all the fear mongering? She treated our dog well and did a very basic exam on her, gave us some training tips, etc., but I wasn't happy with how the appt. went. We live about 30 minutes from Habitat, so it's a drive to get over there, especially in traffic. We had scheduled a second appt. to test our dog for heartworm, but were running 10 min. late. When we got there, a vet tech came out and chastised us in the middle of the lobby about being late and we were told that normally we would be forced to reschedule. Unbelievable. I pride myself on always being on time, but the traffic around here is unpredictable, at best. Not only were they inflexible, but also just unprofessional to have that conversation in front of the front desk and other customers. On top of that, for the heartworm test, they just grabbed my dog and took her to a backroom where we weren't allowed to go, which also made me very uncomfortable. She's my dog, she's a puppy, and she has fears and anxiety. I didn't think it was right for the tech to do that. I also STILL had never met a doctor there!! At this point, we were done. I've had dogs and cats my whole life, and there's only one other vet I refused to see, which says a lot at my age. Pets are precious, and you deserve someone who will collaborate with you about their care. Choose wisely. read more

My cat did not survive this injection as it should have never been prescribed for a cat with stage 2 kidney disease. I asked if there were any negative side effects or issues I should be concerned with for her already kidney disease and the vet technician and the veterinarian denied such outcomes. To repeat, I was not given informed consent and will be reporting this vet and my cat's reaction to the necessary authority systems in place to make sure they stop over prescribing a drug that is dangerous. The drug cuts off supply of Nerve Growth Factor to every cell in the body. They all need it to function properly, so if there is anything that has a problem before the injection, it only seems to enhance the problem and cause much bigger ones. The FDA itself rejected this drug for humans for major safety risks. The veterinarians here appear to be only concerned with money and making commissions off the drugs they prescribe vs sincerely interested in helping your animal thrive. read more

This place is a joke now. Should have known when the best vet there left the group. What good is it to have an established vet who doesn't have work-in appts for urgent illnesses, infections or emergencies???? Vet care in the last 10 yrs has gone downhill. They're all corporate-owned and all they care about is overbilling for routine care, including unnecessary and sometimes dangerous vaccinations, untested medications, and overpriced tests. They're all lazy and undereducated. This is a completely unbiased review as I just moved to Boise from out of state and needed a vet as my cat, Nala, had developed an eye infection over the weekend. Words can't describe how impressed I am with the medical staff at Habitat Veterinary Hospital and the facility as a whole. From the moment I walked in, I knew I brought Nala to the right place. Doctor: Dr. Steven Baker... Just wow. Dr. Baker proved himself to be incredibly knowledgable in animal medicine. I did a lot of research on my cats ailment before bringing her in so it was apparent that Dr. Baker knew what he was talking about. Not only is he an expert in animal medicine, but he is extremely kind, patient, and actually listens to the symptoms you explain to him and uses that information make an educated diagnosis. While he worked to diagnose my cat's eye issue, he explained in detailed everything that he was doing to determine the underlying cause. Dr. Baker prescribe medication and my cat's eye has improved 100% over night. Lastly, and most importantly, Dr. Baker is as honest as one can be. My previous vet (out of state) was strongly recommending a dental cleaning and I was prepared to schedule that with Dr. Baker. Get this... Dr. Baker examined my cats teeth/gums, picked off the few pieces of tarter with his thumb, and told me it would be a waste of money and do more harm than good as Nala's oral health was adequate. Timeliness: I showed up to my 3:30 PM appointment about 10 minutes early. At 3:30PM on the dot, Nala and I were escorted to the medical room. We did not wait more than a few minutes to be seen by the medical assistant and the doctor. I relative there can be delays at the vet but this facility proved to be exceptional with time management. Front desk staff: Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the front desk staff with professionalism and kindness. They didn't miss a beat. Medical Assistant: The medical assistant proved to be knowledgable in animal medicine and took thorough notes of Nala's ailments. She was also kind, genuine, and welcoming. Facility: The facility was immaculate and incredibly clean. The building seems to be relatively new construction. It looked to be a state of the art facility with high end equipment for diagnosis, surgeries, etc. They offered a variety of natural food and treat options for sale. Price: The cost of service was very reasonable. I've paid a substantial amount more for vets that you wouldn't dare to compare with Habitat Animal Hospital. read more

I've been very pleased with the services of Habitat. My Mini Australian Shepherd is 5 months old and has gotten her puppy shots at Habitat. I have interacted with two of the vets and both have been very knowledgable answering many of the questions I've had since it's been a long time since I've raised a puppy. They have helped me decide upon a good nutrition diet, given me info on dog training in the Boise area, and helped me determine the pros and cons of spaying at different ages. And now my Mini Aussie has been spayed. I'm pleased with the surgery, the post-op, and the stitch removal. They could not take blood without putting my dog under anesthesia and then didn't run the correct blood labs. SO AMAZING!! We took our little geo in today for a checkup since he's the only kitten in the litter who had pretty bad allergies! They helped so kindly and were so gentle with him for his first ever vet appointment. Our vet was Terra and the vet tech with her treated him so well however I didn't get her name. We got him on medication for herpes and she even gave us some cheaper alternatives that work just as well since he'll need them indefinitely! I could get into the details, but I'll spare you. TWICE Habitat has misdiagnosed my dog. They suggested and went through with treatment without running definitive tests. When I brought her to another nearby vet due to Habitat's lazy response to my concerns, my dog was found to have serious ailments and could have been started on the CORRECT treatments months earlier. Brought my dogs here for an exam and the male vet was timid, hesitant, and flinched at handling the scared pups. When he went to take their temp they each whipped their head around as if to say "absolutely not", which I am sure is common, yet he acted ASTONISHED that a dog would act like that, backed away and said they tried to bite him. I'm not going to say my dogs are passive and let a vet touch them enthusiastically, but I'm also not going to let a vet accuse them of lunging and attempting to bite when it VERY much wasn't the case. I didn't have the best experience here, though I had high hopes based on the positive reviews and their claims of a holistic approach. We took my 11 year old dog in last week to check on a leg injury. She almost immediately slipped on the polished concrete floors in the waiting room. When she was being examined, the vet lifted up one of my dog's hind legs, which caused her once again to slip on the smooth floor. This time, however, she splayed out and fell to the ground, hitting her chin on the floor (not fun for a 78 pound senior dog who already has a leg injury). If I had been warned of what she was doing in the exam I could have supported the weight of my dog. The vet then went to get a tech to help her pull my dog on her side to examine her further. When they were flipping her, she was so scared that she pooped while laying on her side. She has never had a fearful experience like this in her life. The vet did diagnose her (hopefully correctly) and alleviated my fear of a CCL tear, which is why I am giving more than just one star. I emailed the vet the same evening that we were in because I had some more questions that I forgot to ask, and a week later I still haven't heard back. We drove 30 minutes each way with a dog who doesn't like car rides because we had high hopes for this clinic. We will not be returning, and next time we will instead try the highly rated Woodington Vet which is much closer to us and offers more affordable prices. A word to the wise -- you may want to consider rugs on your very slippery floors when you have senior or injured dogs in for an exam. read more

We adopted a puppy and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Anja W. Hunter at Habitat Veterinary Hospital. It's quite the drive for us, about 40 minutes, but we read her bio on Habitat's website and we were very impressed. She did not disappoint and her expertise was worth the drive. In addition to being very kind and gentle with our pet, Dr. Hunter was EXTREMELY knowledgable and took the time to answer my many, many, MANY questions regarding pet care, pet products, pet procedures, etc. She was also respectful of my choices as a pet owner and gave me informed consent for every potential procedure. When it came to deworming she shared all of the options and the pros and cons of each option and empowered me to make the best choice for our family situation and pet. Habitat was the first place we called because it was across the street from our apartment. Our 14 year old best bud Maggie, a lab shepherd mix suddenly fell and was in a very bad way. It was pretty clear this was going to be her time and we did not want her to suffer. The staff at Habitat (where Maggie was not a previous known patient) even came to our apartment to pick up a senior dog in need. Maggie unfortunately passed that day shortly after we arrived, but the staff was so accommodating and sweet to us. A card just arrived in the mail with a paw print and card. Our time with Habitat was short and during a very stressful/emotional time, but we were very impressed and want to thank the staff very much. read more

I wish I could give 10 stars. We moved to town last fall with two dogs, one 7 and one over 14. After reading reviews, we chose Habitat and had great first visits with Dr. Maleki, and made sure we were caught up with all our exams and in the know about what to expect in our new environment. Fast forward to last week when it became obvious that our senior dog was ready to be put down. She had a scary to us and uncomfortable to her health crisis, and I called Habitat. The techs were very helpful, and I spoke to Dr. Frost who helped me understand what was happening. We then scheduled to bring her in within a couple hours (they will come to your home as well), and Dr. Baker helped us put her peacefully to sleep. Everyone was so kind and respectful to her and to us. We felt informed and comforted on a very difficult day. Special thanks to the short blond tech who smoothed our way. I have always had a GREAT experience at Habitat. I took my year old German Wirehair here for his neuter, which I was very nervous about, and the staff made me feel more at ease. I got a personal phone call from the Doctor that performed the surgery letting me know everything had gone as planned, and answered any questions I had. The staff is very patient and caring. They also have an awesome gift shop in the front of the office with really unique items like leather collars, natural snacks, and grain-free dog food (HIGHLY recommended). Don't let the idea of a natural vet make you think it will be super spendy, they were one of the lowest prices I was quoted for the neuter, and I couldn't have asked for anything more from them. read more

Where is the ten star rating when you need it?! I can't say enough good things about Habitat and the staff here. Our youngest pup (15 months old) recently was diagnosed with epilepsy and as a result suffers from seizures. And our oldest pup (13 years old) has an enlarged heart from a heart murmur. All of which happened within a couple months of each other, enough for any pet owner to be on edge. Dr. Frost has been above exceptional in his attention and care for our dogs. He is very good at explaining everything and walking you through treatment options- easily weighing the pros and cons of each. He has also been so responsive to our questions over email because of course a million other questions come up shortly after you leave. And when Dr. Frost was on (a well deserved) vacation this summer he took the time to bring the other doctors up to speed on our situation. So when we had to reach out to Habitat for assistance with prescriptions and dosage for our dogs, it was a seamless experience. We have had the pleasure of interacting with each and every doctor on staff here and have had nothing but great experiences with each of them. Habitat has forever earned our complete loyalty. I love the folks at Habitat! First, they saved my cat. About a year and a half ago my cat, Riley, got a horrible infection and we're still not sure why. They gave him IV antibiotics, fluids, ran tests, kept him 3 days on a holiday weekend, and after watching over him, he finally pulled through. And the total bill was only about $300! Second, my dog, Lily, has Lymphoma. I take her to Habitat every week for blood tests and then chemo. Even though she gets poked and prodded, Lily still loves walking through the door because everyone is so great to her and treats her like a princess. Habitat took great care of our puppy, Olive. She went through all of her puppy vaccinations and shots here and they also took care of her spay and umbilical hernia. In between all of that Olive decided she liked to eat wood chips! The first time I called and they gave me great advice and were very helpful. The next time we had to bring Olive in and between her being pretty sick and the stresses of moving out of state I was pretty stressed and the Habitat crew certainly calmed my nerves and were very passionate towards Olive and myself. Willow (canine) and I have been using Habitat for our veterinary needs since 2014. They have never let me down, the staff is kind, patient and knowledgeable. I love this place...it really kicks all other veterinarian clinics in this area in the butt!! They are doing awesome work here, and it lines up with my philosophy of taking a more natural approach! I'm a Chiropractor (for humans) and I like to find the cause of the problem and not just throw medication at every little thing. On top of the usual treatments Habitat also offers Acupuncture, Chiropractic, and herbal supplements and vitamins.
