Since I only adopt senior dogs who inevitably have medical problems, I've had plenty of experience working with Pet First vet techs and doctors They maintaine my senior dog's health and when the inevitable end time comes, they treat me and my pet with compassion and kindness. I can tell you that it's expensive having senior dogs, and they generally don't have a long life But Pets First provides outstanding care with (may I say it), bargain basement prices. I just had my newest adoptee's dental done (16 teeth removed). Not only did my dog recover quickly, but the cost was at least one half the cost of what other clinics are charging. Highly impressed with every aspect. I used the grooming side for my 10 year old border collie/siberian husky girl with big sensitive feelings. Long story short I just don't trust anyone with my girl. I called and was met with friendly thorough reassuring information about the process. I'm bad with money so I payed ahead of time over the phone. Huge plus for me. Zero bad vibes here. Front desk was super nice and friendly. They painted her nails even!! My favorite part is that it's a clinic and grooming facility. I don't even know where to begin. This place and Dr. Charles just blew me away the other day when I took Frankie for his follow-up. Picture it, Boise Idaho May 3rd, Frankie had this horrible cough. It had started a few days earlier. Roommate and I thought maybe it was allergies but it got worse as the week went on. So by the 3rd day, we rushed him to West Vet because he was coughing and he wasn't stopping and he gave me that look, that sad look with the ears back and I could see it in his eyes -- "Dad, I need help, I don't feel good" I'm sure most can tell when their dog is communicating with them in that way. Frankie and I have a bond like I never knew this sorta bond was even possible between two living creatures. We are so attached to each other and have been from the VERY SECOND we met. He weighed less than a pound and he ran to me and danced circles around my feet, keep kissing me, I knew that he was my kid! Sorry, I'm getting off topic lol. We took him to West Vet. Hoping it was just allergies -- I get the call that it was worse. We were in the car. No people allowed in because of the chinese virus. So they took my lil man inside and we waited outside for almost 6 hours. They called me and told me he has congestive heart failure. I literally felt like my world was caving in. 3 weeks before all this, my Dad passed away (April 6th). I couldn't go to the funeral in upstate NY because -- the virus. So that will weigh on me forever. Then this happens to Frankie. I was a sobbiiiiinnnng mess! I felt like I was losing my other best friend. My dad and I were close my entire life. Next call happens, he has a mild case of it, but has a heart murmur as well and he needs to spend the night in the hospital MAYBE two nights. West Vet is NOT cheap! Fast forward so I don't run outta space here lol. We pick him up on Sunday. He's now on 2 meds for the rest of his life. West Vet tells us to make an appointment at the regular vet a week out. So we take him in this past Mon, the 11th. The staff at Pets First has always been incredible. Frankie has dental work done a few years back and they were so sweet to him then. I'm not sure what happened between then and now, but I feel like the staff is even sweeter, nicer, more gentle, etc then ever before. They were SO NICE with Frankie. Joan is absolutely incredible. She is very good with Frankie and overall, she's very calming. Especially for someone like me who has been a disaster since this all started. Then we meet his new doctor, Dr. Charles. His confidence, his knowledge of the pets, his handling of Frankie boy, everything about Dr. Charles is exactly what I needed with the month I had just had. With the virus nonsense and then my dad passing away and me not being able to attend my OWN DADS FUNERAL! and then Frankie! Yeah, Dr. Charles made me feel so much better and I'll truly never forget him during this time I've been through. The rest of the staff was so sweet and just so friendly. Whoever is in charge over there knows exactly how to choose the winners for his staff. Thank you Pets First for always been so great with my special lil man. I honestly can't thank you enough. Prices are very reasonable there too. Most vets are absolutely insane. They work with you. I won't put all my business out there, haha, but I'm forever grateful to them for helping me out in every way. Frankie will need regular checkups and we have another in a month. I have so much confidence in this place and his doctor after this latest visit. Not sure I'd trust him to any other veterinarian-- unless he ends up at West Vet again and I'm gonna do whatever needs to he done to make sure that never happens again. Emergency Vets are scary for us! Can't imagine how must be for our kids. Thanks for reading. I feel like I've left stuff out. Weird, huh? I never leave anything out lol. My husband and I have been taking our cat here for years. At first they seemed to care. About 2mo ago our cat needed dental surgery. He just seemed to have bad breath and was drooling a lot. when we asked them what to do they told us it was probably tartar but if they'd done their job he shouldn't have had a tartar problem. It didn't make much sense. Them we took him a week ago and they checked his teeth and they felt he had an infection in his mouth and gave us antibiotics less than a week later he started throwing up he never got better and started having seizure after seizure. We called them to put him out of his misery but they were too booked. I will never go there again. They failed my cat when he needed them the most. It's not Pets First it' s Money First. The Vet Techs always are friendly and consider them to be not only great consultants and ready to help, but do so in an experienced manner. It's always challenging finding new places to go. My husband and I moved to town a few months ago. The day we were moving in, our dog broke her toenail.. and it didn't look good. I called Pets First and they were able to see her that day. Since then, we have taken our dog back as well as our new puppy. The staff and docs are always incredibly helpful! I've called with some puppy dog mom questions and they were able to provide me with suggestions over the phone without having to come in. I highly recommend pets first if you're in need of a vet. This review is only about my experience with the grooming service. It was our first time at this facility. Within 20 minutes of dropping off our dog we get a call from them saying they have LOST OUR DOG. Somehow they managed to set out dog loose and they are located next to a very busy street. They were able to locate our dog and bring her back. But they are very lucky that our dog was not hit by a car and they were able to locate her in time. Our dog was not groomed and we did not stick around for them to finish the service. It was clear that they do not know how to handle dogs properly and do not follow basic safety and security protocols. I will never return to this location. Thank you however to the lady at the clinic (not the groomers) that was able to locate our dog and bring her back safely. read more

Absolutely love this place. The man doctor wrote down everything I said and actually listened to my words about my dog. They were very helpful and extremely kind to my anxious dog. We have taken all our dogs and cats here for care and kenneling since they opened. That's three cats and five dogs thru the years. We even adopted a dog their vet and staff were fostering. They are excellent vets; have engaged and caring staff; and our furry family members have always jumped out of the car and run in to see their friends at Pets First! When it has been time to send them over the Rainbow Bridge, their staff and vets have been caring and gentle. Our litmus test for a good vet clinic is how happy our pets are to see them and how healthy and what long lives they have with the tender and top line treatment they provide. I just moved to Boise, ID and decided from the previous reviews that I should give them a try. It was the fastest in and out trip I have ever done at the vet. At my previous vet it would take forever to be seen by the veterinarian. Every single person here was so friendly and so loving towards my dog. From the front desk to the assistant to the veterinarian. I was so nervous to go in because my dog had cancer and he just needed a check up, but it went so smooth and he was handled with such care. They said he is doing great which just put me at ease. At the end my dog even got a treat and they actually had salmon which is the only thing my dog can eat due to his allergies. This animal clinic fit me in same day to see my dog's swollen ear and didn't try to sell me on things I didn't need. They worked around my schedule and had fair prices for the drainage my dog needed on his ear and even trimmed his nails during surgery! The whole team was awesome and compassionate. We have been in Idaho for 1 year now. Because we don't know many people yet to get referrals from, we were dreading finding a good Vet for our dogs. Well, we scored when we found Pets First! We have a 13 y/o poodle mix that had taken a sudden turn and we were very concerned about finding a Vet that would have the care for our dog as a primary focus. We met with Dr.McKowen. He was just what we were looking for. He Was a delight and focused immediately on the health of our dog while intently listing to our list of symptoms. He checked her from nose to tail, did blood work, clipped her nails and came to the conclusion that our dog may have gotten into some of the weeds or grass that had been sprayed for weed killer (dog safe, NOT). He took care of some secondary issues and our pup is on the mend!! I recommend Pets First and Dr. McKowan highly. And their facilities are clean and professional. Don't hesitate to use them! I highly recommend Pet's First Animal Clinic for all of your veterinarian needs. We have been using Pet's First for at least the last 20 years and we (and our dogs) have been very happy and satisfied with the quality of care and the professionalism of Dr. McKown (the owner) and his associates and staff. It's apparent from every experience that we've had with them that it's not just a job for these people - it's a way of life. The people who work here are not only highly competent in their field, but they are very caring, compassionate, and helpful in everything that they do. I also realize that there are no veterinarians that get perfect reviews from all of their customers all of the time. Sadly, victimhood is on the rise in the 21st Century and in our digital age there are many angry, stressed, and hostile people who are just looking for someone to criticize and blame all of their personal problems on. With that said, I think it's wise to be skeptical of those who post an extremely negative review - especially if the review seems unreasonable and if it appears as though someone is looking for revenge for whatever wrong they believe someone else has caused them. We RV full time and rely on Yelp for many of our services. Our Wheaten Terrier, Finnegan is 14 and recently started having problems negotiating our stairs. We brought him in for a well being check. Everyone we had contact with was fantastic to us and to Finn. Dr. Charles saw him and prescribed a new painkiller that helped immediately. We were so grateful that his condition was not a life ending issue. We highly recommend this practice. Everyone is caring and kind. Follow up was great also. read more

There are no words!! This vet clinic is not just a clinic, it's a family. I truly feel that my dog could not be in better hands the with Dr. M and Dr. C. Not to mention the vet techs and Joan at the front are AMAZING, they treat my dog with such incredible care. My dog had an ACL surgery and because he's such a "special" dog, we had to bring him into the vet multiple times to get his stitches fixed since he figured out how to get out of his cone :p each time, with no appointment, the vet would come out and talk with us and help us figure a better way to keep him from getting to his stitches. I will never take my dog anywhere else, I recommended them to my co worker whose dog was passing away and she could not speak highly enough of them, especially when it came to putting her sweet dog down. My dog gets so happy every time we pull into the parking lot :) I have had many negative experiences with vets and Pets First Animal Clinic is a top notch vet, you can tell they all absolutely love what they do and they love your fur babies. Worst customer service in the Boise area when it comes to pet care. Clueless receptionist who act like they are trained groomers/ vets. Please don't talk details about services with me if you aren't scheduling them at that same moment. I was told a variety of different quotes/ summaries of services by reseptionist and groomers. Because of this my dog was held in an environment where he defecated and urinated on himself over a four hour period ( I was working and unable to talk with them)while they waited on my instructions which had already been expressed in previous arrangements. When I brought up my concern to the reseptionist and groomer, they were both very defensive and blamed me for 1. Not having my dog groomed as a puppy, 2. For not being specific as what I wanted done( groom my dog, that's why he is here) 3. For over exaggerating, because if this was one of the worst customer experiences I have ever I had " I was doing pretty darn good" says the geriatric citizen running the phones. Listen, save your self a headache, money, time, and simply do not give pets first animal service a chance to let you down. What a joke. read more
