Recently went in and had Ryan make me over. My friend has been getting her hair done by her and every time she came back from the salon she looked liked a million bucks. Ryan blew me away! Not only is she uber talented when it comes to color but also does wonderful cuts. I showed her a few pictures and she was able to give me a cut and color that not only were similar to the pictures I showed but also suited me! My hair turned out better than I could had hoped. Run don't walk to Habitude and have Ryan work her magic! The salon itself is warm and inviting. Booking an appointment was a breeze. Yes, it's crazy expensive for a haircut, but well worth it! Michelle is the bomb; she always listens, sometimes knows me better than I know myself when it comes to trying new hairstyles (aka she doesn't let me do crazy stuff that I will regret two hours later), and she does an amazing blowout. Beyond a great haircut, Habitude has good customer service, a nice ambiance, and lots of cute gifts/jewelry to pick up when you're in a pinch and would rather be pampered then go gift shopping...not speaking from experience or anything... read more

THIS IS FOR THE SALON ONLY! I never pay for haircolor, I've been doing it myself forever. But I had a Pure Privilege cert I needed to use, so I thought "what the heck, I'll splurge". I don't want to use names, but the stylist seemed nice enough, until they preached to me about using home haircolor (like I'm the only one who does!), complained that they wouldn't be able to give me the color I wanted (I had pics, and trust me, it was not that far off from my current color). I wanted a lighter red, and they continued to say they wouldn't be able to get my home color red out, it was to0 red. Hmm. I didn't say I wanted the red out, but just lighter, which was clear in the pic I showed. So we looked at some swatches, decided on a color, and went to work. Well....it came out WAY darker than any of what was shown and discussed! I'm not the bitchy type, so I didn't want to be too rude, but I was clearly not happy and they even said "I know it's not what you wanted". Huh? No where near! Now I was back to square one, with darker hair than before (more reddish dark brown instead of strawberry reddish blonde). This is why I do it myself, since I have never screwed up my hair. They didn't charge me at least, and said to "let it settle" and come back in a few weeks. Nope, not happening. I will not be coming back here! read more

The staff here is incredibly friendly and the service is greatly enhanced by all the little comforting touches that make the whole experience so relaxing (i.e. hand massage while your hair is processing...). The massage was underwhelming. The pressure was fine, but there was not concentration on any one area. In fact, I requested focus on only one area, but she didn't listen and massaged other parts of my body. I hae received many massages and currently receive one every other week. I essentially did not receive any benefits from this massage. Was there for a mani/pedi, too. The technician tried her best to do a good polish job, but when I pointed out that she has missed spots, she said that the polish color I chose (red) was very difficult to work with. I found that comment very off-putting as clients should receive a good polish job no matter what color they choose. The space is not relaxing as there are staff sitting in chairs during their off times/waiting for clients. This is terribly unprofessional. Generally, this spa is too casual for me and the level of quality of service was disappointing. I would not recommend it to a friend. read more

I had two bad experiences at this salon. I went in for a partial foil and a cut. I get blonde highlights and sometimes get lowlights. The stylist I had put way to many lowlights in and made my hair way too dark. On top of that, my highlights still had serious dark regrowth in the front. I guess he didn't put the bleach close enough to the scalp or he didn't let it lift enough. My lowlights also looked brassy. I didn't notice too much in the salon b/c the lighting is not good, but I noticed when I got home and in the sunlight. I called to have it corrected and couldn't get an appointment with that stylist in the next month so I had to PAY to have it corrected by someone else. The next stylist also didn't lift it enough and I again STILL had dark roots. And the whole time she was trying to sell me on other services - Brazilian blow-out, deep conditioning, full-foil instead of partial. Why would I agree to all these other expensive, unecessary services when you cannot even get a basic partial foil right? So over $200 later, I gave up on Habitude. I went to another salon and it now looks great. I am not one who complains at salons either. I have been getting my hair highlighted for over 15 years and I have only asked for color correction one other time. Avoid this place! read more

My friend and I got a pedi today and we both agreed we had way better. They didn't greet/welcome us - in fact, the nail technician just asked my friend if she was ready to come back after we'd been sitting there for over 5 minutes. (I wasn't acknowledged at all but followed along). My nail technician complained about the difficulty of removing my existing polish and seemed inexperienced in handling feet etc. (e.g. she was rubbing the callous remover on my skin instead of my callous) I was really disappointed given how expensive their pedi is and will not be going back. Note: while waiting, we asked a worker about the restroom and she showed us there it is located but commented it was not her job... read more

Try Sheila for a massage and Caitlyn for anything facial or skin care. Not the cheapest but you will walk away with that wonderful bliss spa feeling we all want! Like most others I purchased the groupon, I've never purchased a groupon for anything spa like since I'm so picky about my hair. The wax was fantastic, I would give her service 5 stars as she made my brows look beautiful and I even added on a wax for the rest of my face for $18.00. The entire wax process took about 30 minutes since she was so precise about the entire thing. So for her, 5 stars. The hair cut however was a total and complete disaster. As any girl with long hair knows, once it gets past a certain length you become really attached to it. When she sat me down she asked what I wanted and i informed her I just wanted a trim, and for my bangs to be cut across. Nothing fancy, nothing too much. I typically get my hair cut at seven, and I like how my hair fell it just needed to be cleaned up. She washed my hair, and the deep condition was an Aveda product that was left on my head for two minutes. Hmmmm, I started to feel a little weary at that point.. She quickly trimmed my hair wet, and then blew it dry to cut the rest. As she was cutting my hair I noticed a lot of hair flying everywhere. At this point she was 70% done, and I started getting really antsy. I said to her "are you just adding texture?" She said she was blending in the layers.. I told her I felt nervous and then she said "it's up to me to let you know what I'm doing." But that's the thing, she never told me she was going to thin out my hair, and if she had I would have told her no. I love thick hair, and my hair isn't even thick to begin with, so why on earth would someone thin it out? Instead of cutting my bangs as I asked her she thinned out my bangs (once again) and cut them uneven. The entire process of getting my hair cut and "conditioning treatment" was only 30 minutes. I have never, ever had a haircut that didn't take an hour. I felt like this salon wanted more business so they signed up for goupon, but this hair cut was such a disaster that I feel like I have to wear my hair up until it grows out, even worse when it grows it it's going to be so un even that I feel just sick to my stomach. Please Habitude, inform your stylists to listen to their customers, and to not just incorporate a technique without letting them know first. I never would have been okay with her thinning out my hair if she asked me. read more

Who ever thought a Brazilian wax could be relaxing?! Well I guess not "relaxing", but pretty much as close as it gets. Purchased a Groupon for 2 Brazilians for $77... seriously, you CANNOT beat that deal. My appointment was at 2, and I got there around 1:55 and was out the door by 2:20. Amanda was amazing. Very quick and as painless as it could be. She was easy to talk to and made me very comfortable. The room was very nice, soft music playing and nice aromatherapy. I don't think I could afford the usual $80/wax price, but the Groupon made it very affordable and I'm so happy with the result! read more

Worst. Experience. Ever. Bought a groupon here for a cut and color. Booked the appointment and was scheduled for 10 AM. I received a confirmation call in advance, again for 10 AM. I showed up at 10:04. They told me that I was TOO LATE for my appointment and that the schedule had me down for 9:45 and that now it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to have my 3 hour appointment. Also, it was now considered an under 24 hour cancellation and they redeemed my groupon. :( Maybe they're awesome but I'll never know because I'm never going there again. Terrible service. read more

I went to see Kelsey for the first time, to try my first eyebrow tint. I also had the wax. My eyebrows look so full and effortless with a great shape. Well now they are effortless. She was very confident and had the skills to back it up. I am a huge eyebrow fanatic and was ner vous about trying something new. Had a decent haircut but SHAME on the salon for not showing me a receipt before taking my credit card. I was told the "total" cost, and the credit card slip just showed the total I added my tip based on that. Only after they asked IF I wanted a receipt (yes!) I saw that the "total" included a "SERVICE FEE" of over 6%. Of course I had already added a 20% tip so they got more than 26%. This is pretty bogus. read more

Services: Someone else summed it up pretty well, I went there looking for an edgy, new haircut and I ended up with what "looks like a 45 year old anchor woman's haircut" except mine was with John. I specifically said I didn't want the standard bob but something with texture and movement and brought a picture with me. I used a Groupon, don't know if that made a difference or not, but he did cut it pretty quickly. This is actually the third time I've had my hair cut there over the years -- I want to like them, I really do -- but every time I walk out with basically the same cut and its not what I asked for. I will say that technically it was a pretty good haircut, just not what I wanted. Products: GO ELSEWHERE they are overpriced. Just today I stopped into buy Color Conditioner. Its $18 on the Aveda website, its $18 at every other Aveda store and salon I've been at, but at Habitude its $21. It ticked me off so much I left and drove over to Beehive and picked it up for $18. read more

Hello dear quaint salon near the locks! You can really buy curios, get your hair done, brows or a massage and get out without sacrificing multiple limbs. Prices are on the higher end, don't expect a $15 brow wax. The schedule options are great and allow me to get in after work or on the weekends. I've seen Ioana for brow waxes & tints. She is very professional, cares about service and makes the whole experience a light hearted yet relaxing occasion. I always feel refreshed after the experience - which I know is odd, I just had eyebrow hairs ripped out of my face - however, she pulls it off magically. Parking and payment can get a little weird sometimes. Sometimes the cash register doesn't have anyone there, so a stylist will realize you need to pay and come help out. After my first parking experience in trying to figure out if I had to pay or not, I just walk there. read more

I love Amanda at Habitude. We call her the brow whisperer. I was treated to a birthday surprise by my husband last week. Amanda did my brows (wax and tint) as well as a facial. My skin feels (and looks) great! Amanda has such a great presence and makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable. I also received a massage from Molly that was fabulous. The atmosphere at the Habitude spa is also solid. They serve nuts and dried berries and spa water while you wait for your services. The support staff is very helpful. I go to Habitude - Ballard somewhat regularly for their eye package (brow wax, brow tint, lash tint). I was hesitant to try tinting my brows until a former co-worker told me about the package and her brows always looked great! Very natural but polished and put-together. I've had mostly great experiences at Habitude with a couple exceptions of my brows turning jet-black when the aesthetician left the dye on too long. It really depends on who you get; a good aesthetician will put on a lighter shade, check it after a few minutes and then go darker as needed. But, usually it turns out great. I think they've really improved their customer service, too. The front of house folks are much friendlier and attentive than in the past. Last week, there was a mistake in my appointment time but they still managed to squeeze me in and the aesthetician arranged for me to have a chair massage while I waited! You really do feel pampered and taken care of there. It is on the pricey side but the ambience and service make it worth it. So, treat yourself to something! You deserve it! read more

If you are dying your lashes or getting a facial this is one of my favorite places. I always go to Amanda who is a rockstar. Kind, calming and super talented! The place is clean and parking is okay, the lot is often full but there seems to be enough street parking within a block or two. Their massages are okay. This review is for Habitude's Essential Pedicure. It was amazing, definitely the best pedicure I've ever gotten! I usually go to the cheaper places that charge $20-25, and while those are good, the pedicure I received at Habitude was far more superior. Hollis took the time to carefully trim and paint each toe. She did a perfect job on all 10 toes. While I probably can't come back often for the essential pedi since its pricey ($64), it's definitely worth it for a special treat once in a while. read more

I don't quite understand all of the negative reviews here. I think you just have to go and find the right people that you "click" with but I have that experience everywhere. The two massages I have found have been wonderful. One was relaxing; one was a deep tissue and really did work out the kinks. I get my pedicures exclusively here. Yes, they're expensive. That means I get one every 6-8 weeks as opposed to every 4 weeks. No biggie; it's worth it to me. And I've picked out the person who does my pedicure just as I like it. Is the atmosphere a little new agey? Yeah, a little. But it's still relaxing. I never feel like I'm not good enough to be there. I have never felt unwelcome. Whenever I ask for a hair stylist there - and everywhere else - I have learned to ask for top tier people. I don't cope well with people who are just out of beauty school. Been there, done that. I'm not loaded or anything but because I get my hair cut maybe four times a year I feel like I can afford a little more spent on a good hair stylist. I love Habitude and would definitely recommend it to my friends. read more

Yes, their prices have gone up lately but so have every other spa's around town. I keep coming back for the laid back vibe. Get there early, at least 30 minutes before your appointment and take full advantage of relaxing in the steam room or luxuriating in your robe and squishy flip flops on the couch. Molly does an amazing job! I didn't put two and two together, until recently. I was eight months pregnant and starting to feel achy and sore. After a session of reiki, I all of a sudden started feeling better even though I wasn't being as active as I should be and I was getting further along in my pregnancy. One week away from my due date, I went again and she added in some massage, which was fantastic! I would highly recommend reiki, especially if you're pregnant. read more

My overall impression is closer to 3.5 stars. The therapist I had for my deep tissue was great. She was incredibly responsive to my pain and ailments and she really worked through them, making sure there was the right amount of pressure. The environment at Habitude salon is vibrant and everyone seems to be enjoying their time there. The issue with this is if your spa is directly above said buoyant environment and you're trying to create a serene and peaceful space, it doesn't work. What also interrupts your relaxation is the constant foot traffic next to the waiting area for your treatment. In general, the staff didn't seem all too concerned with maintaining that environment for clients. In my opinion, the waiting area needs to be moved away from the water cooler and the employees area or they need to find better insulation for sound. Pricing was also a bit steep compared to some competitors and I don't know that it was worth the increased cost. read more

I have been to many salons in the area and sampled my share of facials, massages, mani's and pedis. Let me begin by saying that they recently - meaning in the past 1-2 years-have lost some really excellent staff due to what I suspect as poor ownership. When I mean excellent - I mean EXCELLENT-- Fantastic - FABULOUS. Therfore due to their "in limbo" situation, you may get a great person or a really terrible one whereas in the past you were almost guaranteed a great service by people who were known for skill and quality. I sure hope that their quality picks up overall because it is such a great place with relaxing and serene ambiance. With that said, I do highly reccomend their day spa. Their pedicures are OVERPRICED AND WEAK - go somewhere else! My friend and I visit the day spa for an ultimate massage at least twice a year and for the most part have had excellent services. They also provide a facial which is great because you get a mini massage out of it also - very indulgent. The spa is clean and you have access to the aveda products. They give you a soft robe and slippers and provide water,tea, nuts, dried fruits etc.. to nibble and drink before and after your service. It's definately an experience. We love ordering smoothies-with charge of course (I suspect they are just those NAKED smoothies sold in the store poured over some ice but whatever). My favorite massage therapist was Evey - my god it was amazing - the BEST!!!!! Come alone or come with a friend. They even do showers. My bridesmaids and I spent an afternoon here instead of a typical shower which is definately doable- granted you can't be too loud but we were a group of 4 and it was fine- just book ahead. Overall a very good experience but as I said before, it would be nice to book and not find out that your favorite masseuse or esthetician has left. read more

It is just okay compared to other Seattle salons. The better stylists are a little overpriced, and the newer stylists are just not experienced enough to do great consistent work. If you want a cheaper cut with the same quality, go to the Gary Manuel Institute. Also, if you do find a newer stylist that you like, they don't stay long. I have had a hard time finding someone who did a decent cut or color by the time I'm ready to come back (3-4 months later). read more

I went here for the first time today because I had a gift card and I had a really really good experience. I made an appt with Stephanie because my friend referred her and she did a great job. You know when you sit in a chair and you talk about something forced and it's a little painful? well, it wasn't like that! it was a delight to sit and listen and talk to stephanie. I walked out feeling great about my haircut! The tea is so yummy too. I loved my experience and it was a treat to be able to go. i think the fact that i went without expecting something amazing was the reason why i am so satisfied. it is what it is.. it's not a five star spa. it's ballard, fun and a little funky. its not too snooty, and the service is pretty superb. read more

I recently scheduled one of the seasonal massages (Neteru Nurturing Massage) for a workday evening. I was early, and they were able to move up my appointment accordingly. Megan was absolutely wonderful ... the pressure was perfect, the products were great: it was a heavenly retreat. Had an awesome Ultimate Massage with Travis, who was able to give me some relief from a stiff/kinked neck, and circulation problems to my right arm (as a result of neck problems). After the massage he showed me a few stretches to help my trouble areas and sustain the results of my massage. Felt and still feel much better a few days later, and have been sleeping better as well. Travis was extremely knowledgeable and definitely someone I would see again! Habitude facility is beautiful and calming - staff is always ready with a friendly smile, ready to attend to your needs.
