When I have a little bit of extra cash, I get my facials here. It's worth it when you take in the whole experience - the shower with use of Aveda products (I stay afterward and try all the hair products), sauna, and the comfy lounge area with tea and light snacks. My skin is glowing after my facial with Mishka, she is amazing! I used to see another esthetician before and loved her, too, so my experiences here have always been great. read more

I've had three haircuts at Habitude and they've been ok, but not to the quality I would expect for the money. The experience they create in the hair salon is nice in terms of pre and post haircut. Had my first visit to Habitude in Ballard as a result of the Living Social deal - 1 hour massage, 1 hour facial, scalp revitalization, sauna, and smoothie. Great deal! They should do more! Salon was nice - relaxing, staff was helpful and friendly. Facial was good - thorough, but a bit of an up-sell. "Add on this peel for $45," "Buy this cleanser for maintenance," etc. I just said no thank you and enjoyed my experience. Access to tea, water, fresh snacks throughout. Staff didn't make me feel that since I was there for a discount package that I wasn't as important as any other client. I really liked that! Alot of free add-ons offered at the end - shampoo and blow dry, full makeup application (not just a touch-up), hand massage, chair massage, etc. Took advantage of makeup and blow dry. All in all, I was pampered for 4 1/2 hours! Not bad for $120 plus tips! Natalie, who blew my hair dry, was a self-professed "hair nerd" and was extremely detail oriented, even with just a blow dry! I live in Kirkland, so Ballard isn't exactly convenient, but I decided to give Natalie a try for a hair cut. I'm really glad I did! While I didn't love the blow dry - too much greasy product, felt like I had to re-wash my hair - I LOVE my cut! So much easier to manage, looks great, tons of compliments! I will DEFINITELY be going back to Natalie for a cut again. Also, not too expensive - $55. Natalie also mentioned some options for color that I have never been offered before in my almost 15 years of coloring and highlighting my hair. I may just give it a try! Purchased a Groupon for a Spa Package - It was a great deal and quite honestly I wasn't expecting too much - Scheduling was flawless - Have you ever tried to schedule a Spa Day at another salon? It's like coordinating world peace. The Salon is funky and welcoming - The Spa Attendant did a great job outlining what to do and what was in store - The Massage was one of the best I have ever had! The facial was relaxing, no guilt trip or hard sell on products and services - The Mani-Pedi was efficient and fun. Will definitely go again at full price. read more

this place is great, always a relaxing wonderful experience. Aveda is wonderful and I always leave loved and amazed. The spa is great, I always love getting a massage here, it's quiet, there's a sauna to sit in before hand so you can wind down and lots of hot tea. If you can spring to add on the rainforrsst shower its pretty awesome, not sure its worth a lot extra money though. The staff is very enjoyable and friendly. Candice always does my hair and she always does exactly what I ask for, which is very important for me:-). I will return to Habitude for many years to come. I received a massage at habitude ballard and it was amazing. I also got a facial and it was okay. My husband bought me a package deal and they combine the scalp revitalizer with the facial. The package included a massage, scalp revitalizer, and a facial. It was really two treatments because they combined my scalp revitalizer while I was doing my 1 hour facial. I didnt get any extra time for either one. I felt like that was cheap. The massage was wonderful though. I also got a haircut and it was okay. I gave her a picture of what I wanted done and she didnt end up doing it. She wanted to convince me to do something else and in the end it seemed like she didnt want to work very hard. I washed my hair after my spa services while taking a shower, so when I came down stairs for my haircut, the hair stylist didnt wash my hair. This also meant she didnt massage my head. I felt like the haircut was fast and I didnt get all we paid for. That being said, I really enjoy this spa. They are very nice. The package deals are not great deals though. read more

I had a Groupon for $80 worth of services, and I opted to get the Ultimate Facial. First off, I got a little turned around and was going to be late. I called and explained the situation, asking if they needed me to reschedule. Erica was totally cool about it and just pushed me back by 15 minutes. Since it was my first visit Erica showed me around and explained the locker room to me. They give you a locker where you can enter in a personal code and lock your stuff up securely, which I appreciated. They give you a pair of plastic flip flops and a robe. There is tea, nuts, and cranberries offered to you in their waiting room, which is more like a swank living room. While I was waiting I could see why some people would complain about hearing the employees chat. The waiting area is right outside the door where they come and go. Dead silence makes me more uncomfortable than low level chatter, and I didn't find it annoying. I waited for about 10 minutes before Nikole introduced herself to me. She was very nice, shook my hand, and showed me into our room. Did I mention the whole place is kept at 76 degrees? It's quite cozy. She started out soaking my feet in hot water while we talked about my skin. I mentioned I have nerve damage in my feet as a result of number of surgeries, and as such I'm kinda jumpy if folks touch my feet. She took it in stride, was very attentive, and didn't hurt me at all. The Ultimate Facial is your standard long facial with a scalp/neck/shoulder massage, salt scrub on your feet and lower legs, and hand massage. The massages were lovely! Nikole really knows what she's doing. She also talked to me about my skin and made some suggestions as to different things I could be using (exfoliant, sunscreen) but she DIDN'T PUSH PRODUCTS AT ALL! I felt no pressure to go downstairs and buy stuff. When we were done she refilled my tea and told me I had access to the sauna if I wanted it, and directed me toward the private showers that are fully stocked with Aveda products. She even mixed me up a custom serum to put on my face when I was done. I poked around the boutique downstairs and ended up picking up their Tourmaline Scrub, which I am super pleased with. Again, when I asked someone for a recommendation I didn't feel any pressure to buy a ton of stuff. She suggested two products, explained how they worked, and left me to choose one of the two. The lady who rang me up was a tad rude and seemed exasperated about my Groupon, but whatever. Ultimately I left more relaxed than I've been in months and super happy. The only reason why I'm not giving this five stars is the cost. $135 plus tip is a little extreme for me. I'll wait for another Groupon to come along. Also, I ended up with some pretty ugly blemishes in the wake of a couple painful extractions, but I don't get facials very often at all and that's kinda to be expected. Definitely save your pennies and go, or wait for a Groupon. I would love to come back someday! read more

First of all I like it cus it's not pretentious, ultra modern gimmicky spa type of place. The atmosphere is just right, it's Northwest style with a lot of Asian, Bali influences. Had an express mani/pedi and Hulu my manicurist was very professional. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. My only complaint was that the express mani/pedi was so rushed that the job was really sloppy. My experience was 4 stars, but I found the place A-OK and I would go back. I received a gift card from a friend so I chose to have my hair done. I got a color and cut by Sarah. She was really good and I liked her. It took a long time though so I was growing a tad bit impatient, however, I have a ton of hair so that was my fault. She mixed the color I wanted perfectly and this was my first dye job in 15 years and I was nervous. I went a little drastic. I was made to feel comfortable, greeted when I walked in, offered tea, and I relaxed in a comfy chair enjoying the vibe and artwork on the walls until I was called! In short, I got the cut I want, the color I want, and a nice head massage while my hair was being rinsed. She dried it and then straightened it. I did find it slightly choppy in the back but it was not that big a deal. These are things you tend to notice when you get home. Nonetheless, I did have a good day there. Price wise....I do find it slightly expensive for what it is. read more

LAME LAME LAME! Soooo disappointed! I went to Habitude Ballard for a groupon package for cut/conditioning and eyebrow wax. I was traveling a it of distance got caught in traffic so I arrived 10 min late. I called to inform them I was stuck in traffic and they said I had a 15 min grace period. So when I arrive the maitre'd was informing me that since I was late I would not receive my conditioning treatment, saying it would delay all the other hair cuts. (Not so atypical to wait 10 min to see your stylist no?) I objected saying that if I had a 15 min grace period I should be able to get my services. He wouldn't budge. So I said fine I will forego getting my hair blown out and styled, as having my hair deep conditioned was important to me. I was then rushed off for a quick shampoo and quicker conditioning treatment. The regular price for this alone is 65.00 and up, for an add on it is 25.00. Sooo not worth it! So that was disappointment #1. Then came the quicker still haircut. She did a minimal trim in about 12 minutes. No hair product/ no blow dry / notta! Disappointment #2. The brow wax was actually great, hence the one star lol. Then I go to check out with my Groupon and the check out beotch said that what I was showing her on my iphone was not a bought coupon. Telling me I didn't actually buy it WTF!?!?!? I then proceeded to show her the code. No apology nothing! Geesh who are these people??? Then she asked me if I wanted to tip anyone. Well I did cause that is just the right thing to do, but now I feel like I shouldn't of. Then had me in and out of there in an hour. And it was supposed to be destressing, beautifying, and uplifting. If you are looking for someone to handle your client experience in a professional, helpful or positive way, please look elsewhere. To say that the employees and even the manager care about whether you come back or not, would be a serious stretch. I bought my girlfriend a gift certificate to Habitude so that she could go and get pampered and leave feeling refreshed. Instead, all I can see and hear are the negative impacts of the lack of service and compassion shown by the staff of this location. The horrid service has ranged from being charged for services that weren't even received to having to return to have things redone AND having to pay in full for them to be redone. Honestly, I've been in customer service for most of my life and when you screw something up, you foot the bill to maintain client satisfaction. This isn't the case with Habitude and even after getting into an argument with the manager to have the overcharged amount refunded, which he agreed that he would do, the refund never happened. Warning: Pay very close attention to what they say they are going to do for you and what they actually do and charge you for. Or, just be on the safe side and go elsewhere because you aren't going to a salon to get taken advantage of. read more

It has been over a year since I've had my haircut, due to being out of work. Now with a new job I decided it was about time to get a new "do". Still wanting to keep the price reasonable, I looked into Habitude. Made my appointment for 3:45 with a lovely girl named Allison/Alisan. I walked in at 3:35, was greeted right away, checked-in, and served a beverage. I sat down for maybe 2 minutes, when Alisan came over to greet me! Alisan is very sweet, personable, confident, and knows what she is doing! Best shampoo, blow-dry, haircut and style I've had in over a year! It was so relaxing I almost fell asleep :-). As a mother of two young children, and a recent San Francisco transplant, this place is my new sanctuary. Eric Nelson is incredible for hair color and cut. Mario gave me a massage and did energy work on me a few days after my dear father passed away. It was the best be thing I could've done for myself to be process the grief... I really was stunned at how much better I felt afterwards and the whole next week. I was able to weep about losing my dad . I just felt like it was a total safe space. No talking. Bess is amazing! My hair has suddenly become somewhat curly in the last few years, but only in chunks. I have had no idea how to deal with it and neither did other stylists I have gone to in hopes of figuring out how to work with it. Bess listened to my concerns and my lifestyle and gave me a haircut that I LOVE and that is so easy for me to style and manage. She is the first person EVER who has figured out how to make my hair look good without just blow drying straight (something I do not have time for on a daily basis). I had the misfortune of getting a facial with Habitude in Ballard, first let me just say the spa is poorly managed. I was informed that the woman that checked me in was called "Sarah". She had a very aggressive demeanor and I didn't appreciate the way she responded to my simple question with a very sarcastic and passive tone. I also had my facial done by Jennifer, who might I say is definitely not professional. She was very superficial and I could hear her talking to another employee outside of my door about "finally finishing a wasted hour" of my treatment. I expect her to finish my facial with dignity and grace... which she did not do. My fiance and I went here the week of our wedding for a massage and facial and it was amazing! First of all, this place smells so good, it's quiet, there are yummy snacks and delicious tea to keep you nourished and hydrated the entire time. It smells like essential oils and every time your service begins you get 3 deep breaths of your preferred scent, which further relaxes me. We both had Mario for our massage and he was great. He had a good balance between a Swedish massage, but also working out my knots. I felt like goo afterwards. I had Nicole for my facial and I loved her! She was so sweet and didn't torture my too long with extractions. I got a clearing clay mask and she massaged my arms, neck and scalp and I tried really hard not to fall asleep. My skin felt so soft and smooth for days after my facial and I will definitely be going back to her. We also took advantage of the sauna and showers. I went to the Habitude in Ballard salon kind of nervous after reading the hit and miss reviews on Yelp. I went for a haircut and style on the day of my graduation. My stylist was Corrine, and she did a great job. She asked me lots of questions about what I wanted, listened really well, and was really good with me even when I was uncertain or changed my mind. She gave me a good simple cut and a very nice style. I didn't have to fight with her about what I wanted, which I have had to do at other places, and that was a huge blessing. Definitely a kind of pricey place, and the desk ladies weren't so very nice but overall I had a good experience there. I went on a Tuesday morning, and parking was easy. The lot wasn't big at all though and I'm not sure how much street parking is around there. read more

This is a review specifically for the manicure service at this spa. I haven't tried other things. This is a very expensive place for what it offers. Their basic pedicure is around $50, the next one is mid-$60, and the best one is mid-$70. I tried the middle and ended up with 45 minutes of foot soaking, nail cutting/shaping, cuticle cleaning, some dead skin clean up and a couple of mins of scrub/lotion, nail polish. This was not worth the $65+tip! I was especially bummed that the dead skin clean up was very superficial, leaving behind a lot (never touched the top of my toes or the soles of my feet). The scrub/lotion part (which is the only difference from the 30min $45 basic treatment called "express") was done within a minute or two. Nothing to write home about. All in all, I''ll to spend my $65+tip somewhere else in the future. What you get at Habitude is not worth it. read more

This review is for the Salon. After a 4-year hiatus to see other salons, I went back to Habitude in Ballard for a long-overdue haircut and to fix a poor home-color choice. Because I hadn't been in so long, I asked for Not Fresh Talent (my last experience with that, there, wasn't stellar). The stars must have been aligned - my appointment was booked with Britnie, and I couldn't be happier with what she did. I have long, curly hair, which can be a challenge for some stylists. Britnie took one look at it and announced that the curls were perfect. After a brief discussion about what has worked and not worked with previous cuts, and coming up with a solution to my Unfortunate Home Color Experience/resistant grey hair, she got down to business. I could tell that she takes her job seriously and really likes what she does, just by how she worked. She was even pretty gentle with the product up-sales. Made some suggestions, and didn't push when I deferred on them. To make a long story short, Britnie understood the quirks of my hair, listened to me, honored my requests and concerns and, ultimately, gave me one of the best cuts/colors I've had in 20 years. I LOVE my new look, and I recommend her without hesitation. read more

Habitude is my favorite day spa in the area. The atmosphere is lush and relaxing, the staff is friendly and professional and the products are top of the line. The prices are a little steep, but I think they're very fair for what you get here. I've had a massage, brow wax and several pedicures here. The Pedis are pricey (around $70), but they are so durable! They end up lasting twice as long as most other pedis I've gotten, so I think they may actually be a better deal in the end. Jenny is the best!! The massage was amazing, as well. I also loved my brow wax, though I think $25 is just too much to pay for that type of service. My only complaint is checking out. I've had times where I had to wait in a long 10-minute line just to pay for my service and leave, and that tends to be a bit of a buzzkill. But it was worth it! Treat yourself to a day at Habitude-- you will not be disappointed! read more

The waxing and tinting of my eyebrows was my first time. What I have been missing! I think I look years younger. I came in stressed and with a headache-left feeling like a pampered angel on cloud 9. Okay, I am really upset with this place and have gone for the last time. Yesterday I went in to get my hair cut. I had hair four inches below my shoulders. I said I didn't want a drastic change but would like LONG layers and a feminine look with my hair falling just brushing my shoulders. What did the hairdresser give me? Short layers just below the ear and thinned out so much my hair has zero body. Plus she took no time to look at the natural wave in my hair so even though it was straight when she cut it wet... it looks terribly uneven dry. Thanks so much for really making my experience unhappy and awful. I was so upset I just pretended to be happy so I didn't cry in public. And... It cost me 75.00 - I will never go back here again. I have had similar interactions with hairdressers that don't listen in the past but this was the worst. NEVER AGAIN having my hair cut at Habitude!!!!!! read more

Worst. Pedicure. Ever. I got the "Express Pedicure", which cost a whopping $47 (not including tip). The only thing the pedicure included was a foot soak and polish. No cutting of nails, no scrubbing or exfoliating, no cuticle trimming, and no massage. The chairs were very uncomfortable, and there were no air dryers to dry my polished toes. It was the most pathetic pedicure I've ever had! The cheap-o strip mall nail salons do a better pedicure than this for under half the price. I feel like I got totally ripped-off. I understand part of what makes Habitude alluring is the "zen" decor and ambience, but I found the atmosphere a little weird and trying way too hard. They have doormen whose only job is to open and close the door for you and point you to the spa. Awkward. After your appointment, the staff tries to push products on you. Lame. I had a great experience here. I had a groupon, and at first, I was worried about being treated rudely just because I came in with a groupon. That fear soon diminished. I was greeted the second I walked in, given a tour of the entire facility, and told, "if you need anything, just let me know" by multiple people. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO relaxing. I felt so welcome. I got a massage which was AMAZING, a pedicure, and a hair wash a blow dry. The girl who did my hair said she would straighten the ends for free if the blow dry didn't turn out the way I wanted because my hair is at a weird stage and likes to filp out instead of in. I LOVE Habitude. I've been several times and have always had an excellent experience. This specific review, however, is for the facial I had last night. In my experience, facials aren't really a relaxing spa experience -- they somewhat painful, but the job gets done and you look good afterwards. My facial last night with Amanda was completely different -- it was completely and utterly BLISSFUL. She must have magic hands -- even the extractions felt good! I've never been so relaxed in my entire life. So, to Amanda, thank you thank you THANK YOU. I came in just wanting to get a pre-wedding facial, and I walked out with an entirely new mindset. I bought the Groupon for the haircut, color and brow wax. I loved the color and brow wax but my haircut was horrible. I will not be back!!! William - the stylist (NOT) immediately started complaining about the client before me saying that she hadn't had a hair cut in 8 years blah blah blah. He then took a look at my hair and told me that he was going to have to dry cut my hair due to my "hair type"... I have never ever had a dry cut. What a crock of manure. I should have walked right there and then. The cut was the worst. I went home with pieces of hair inches longer than my new length. The layers he put in were not blended. Went back the next day and had another stylist who evened out the length but didn't offer to blend in the layers.
