I saw Tori for a haircut, as my hair had grown out quite a bit from a pixie cut (it was almost to my shoulders) and wanted something easier to manage. I brought a photo to show her what I wanted. I've done this enough that I know I can't get exactly what's in the photo - so I made sure beforehand to stress the most important features I liked about the cut in the photo: short, ear length razor cut layers with the hair on top pushed forward and styled slightly messy. My wishes have not been so blatantly ignored since I was 13 attempting to get my first pixie and the hairstylist refused, saying I shouldn't commit to a short haircut since it takes so long to grow out. (Yeah, I'm still salty about that.) I ended up with a sleek, chin length blunt bob. Somehow - I'm not even mad about this part, I was actually impressed - she managed to style it to look like I had a bump-it on the back of my head. I looked like some sort of southern housewife. It was parted in the middle, but she said if I wanted to make it "edgier" I could part it on the side. Woah, let's not get too crazy! I told her I hadn't asked for a bob and she said, "Oh, do you want it more like the photo?" Captain Obvious trimmed a bit more on the sides to round it out, but I was still left with nothing remotely like what I wanted. At this point I gave up and just had her stop before it got worse. I'm not too proud to admit I started to cry on my way out. Not only did I have a piss poor haircut, I was frustrated at how I felt completely ignored. I'm sure Habitude may have some deal like other salons to get a bad cut fixed for free, but there's no way I'm ever stepping foot in there again. Basically, if you like others to make decisions for you and aren't picky about what you get (or you want to look like a southern housewife) go see Tori. Otherwise, go... literally anywhere else. read more

Yesterday I was apart of the modeling program, in which current assistants and soon to be full time stylists perform a service for a class, along with help from their instructor. My stylist was Stephanie. Right off the bat she was extremely friendly, so easy to talk to, and all though I had very little expectations, she still wanted to know exactly what I wanted. The original services ( partial highlights) actually turned in to a even better service, a color correction for a previous mess up at another salon. The time for the lengthy procedure seemed to fly by, and the end result was above and beyond what I expected! I left extremely pleased getting such a wonderful style, at a FRACTION of the price! I just recently started visiting Habitude for their nail and waxing service. Both were great, however the mani/pedi takes a little longer than I would like. I used hair services and had an appointment with a junior stylist. I only needed a trim for my short hair. It was the worst haircut and experience I've had at a salon in memory. I should have left when she kept hitting the top of my ear with her comb. I like the ambiance of the salon, and thought services would live up to the setting. They didn't. Lesson to learn: if the stylist lacks focus and seems poorly experienced, stop her from continuing the cut. Don't be embarrassed to just get up and leave. Someone elsewhere can give you a good cut. read more

Bess is amazing! My hair has suddenly become somewhat curly in the last few years, but only in chunks. I have had no idea how to deal with it and neither did other stylists I have gone to in hopes of figuring out how to work with it. Bess listened to my concerns and my lifestyle and gave me a haircut that I LOVE and that is so easy for me to style and manage. She is the first person EVER who has figured out how to make my hair look good without just blow drying straight (something I do not have time for on a daily basis). As a mother of two young children, and a recent San Francisco transplant, this place is my new sanctuary. Eric Nelson is incredible for hair color and cut. Mario gave me a massage and did energy work on me a few days after my dear father passed away. It was the best be thing I could've done for myself to be process the grief... I really was stunned at how much better I felt afterwards and the whole next week. I was able to weep about losing my dad . I just felt like it was a total safe space. No talking. I had the misfortune of getting a facial with Habitude in Ballard, first let me just say the spa is poorly managed. I was informed that the woman that checked me in was called "Sarah". She had a very aggressive demeanor and I didn't appreciate the way she responded to my simple question with a very sarcastic and passive tone. I also had my facial done by Jennifer, who might I say is definitely not professional. She was very superficial and I could hear her talking to another employee outside of my door about "finally finishing a wasted hour" of my treatment. I expect her to finish my facial with dignity and grace... which she did not do. My fiance and I went here the week of our wedding for a massage and facial and it was amazing! First of all, this place smells so good, it's quiet, there are yummy snacks and delicious tea to keep you nourished and hydrated the entire time. It smells like essential oils and every time your service begins you get 3 deep breaths of your preferred scent, which further relaxes me. We both had Mario for our massage and he was great. He had a good balance between a Swedish massage, but also working out my knots. I felt like goo afterwards. I had Nicole for my facial and I loved her! She was so sweet and didn't torture my too long with extractions. I got a clearing clay mask and she massaged my arms, neck and scalp and I tried really hard not to fall asleep. My skin felt so soft and smooth for days after my facial and I will definitely be going back to her. We also took advantage of the sauna and showers. This salon is a an overlook and should be taken seriously. From walking in the door I felt like I was taken care of, from being greeted, offered a hand massage then meeting my hairstylist. I recently came into Habitude for a haircut with a "signature stylist". I guess thats what they call the stylists in my preferred price range. They gave me an appointment with a new stylist, Natalie. She really listened to my concerns I have with my cowlicks and small thinning spot. The result I got was "professional and hip" as my girlfriend says. Which I consider to be just what I wanted. Not only did I get a great haircut but felt totally relaxed after getting a scalp massage and a hot towel on my face after the haircut when I mentioned that I get itchy easy. I usually go to a barber shop but came to the salon on a gift certificate/subtle prodding from my girlfriend. I plan on coming back to look good for New Year's. Much thanks guys. read more

Went to Habitude for a girls day out. We had the ultimate mani/pedi and a River Rock massage. The service was amazing! Ashley did a great, relaxing massage and Hulu provided the best mani/pedi I've ever had! Nobody once ever tried to sell any products to us either. Originally we had another service set up but I canceled that service which left us a gap in the day which I mentioned over the phone we would probably just get lunch during that time. As soon as we walked in, they were offering us suggestions about great places to eat in the area! I was very impressed. I gave the review one less star for the bad parking but everything else was perfect. read more

I'm a guy and have short hair. Even though the style is simple I stiil like a nice cut, which is why I go to nicer, more expensive salons. The cut I received here was very poor. I found it uneven and rather messy, and am getting it re-cut somewhere else soon. It was also relatively expensive. I'm not complaining about the price, which I'm fine with, but rather the quality for the price, which is laughable. I went right before my wedding as a treat from my bridal party. I had a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure done and it was really really great! The massage was wonderful and completely relaxing, I felt completely out of it. The facial was really good. I think I would've enjoyed more if I didn't have to talk as much as my gal was a chatty kathy. Nothing wrong with being a talkative person at all! But I feel like for a spa where people come to relax it's nicer to just listen to the sounds and not have to concentrate on a conversation. My mani and pedi however was fantastic! She did a marvelous job taking her time and really paying attention to detail. She made sure my wedding nails were perfect. Trust me when I say take your business elsewhere! I did NOT receive actual service here at this snobby of a place and am here to write a negative review of how unprofessional and negligent their customer service was JUST BY A PHONE CALL! I'm sure the root of the issue is the receptionist as you may have read from all the other reviews. She gave me the worst attitude and sounded annoyed as if I actually asked a "dumb" question when attempting to make a reservation. I've never been to Seattle, even more heard of this place and was highly suggested by a friend who heard nothing but amazing things about HaATTITUDE. All I asked was what type of facial the Groupon included/consisted of. Not a hard question lady...or girl...For such an "upscale" or overpriced salon you should know there ARE different types of facials. If you don't like speaking with people... Get another job! Also I've been a bakery catering manager for 6 years and for goodness sake, through all the bullshit WE go through for a BAKERY... I would never, NEVER hang up on a phone call... Even if the customer was giving me a hard time so lesson learned, do not trust a company to steal your money and service you half heartily because seems like they will not do their best and do not care about their customers, especially for the Groupon specials. Went here a while back for a single process root touch up before finding my current place. The space is absolutely beautiful and very charming in a quirky way, which I liked a lot. My stylist was nice and did a good job with the style and blowout, but I was not satisfied because she did not do the color that I asked for. I always have my hair dyed black, and my natural color is light brown. Previously I had been getting my hair done by students and had always gotten the correct color, and have always gotten the correct color with other stylists since, so I know it is not a difficult color to achieve. While she was doing the blowout I noticed that the color on my roots was brown, not black. The contrast of the color the stylist did to the color I already had was very obvious to me, so I find it hard to believe that she didn't also notice, but she didn't say anything. I was hoping that it was just a trick of the light though and paid and left. When I got home and looked it was definitely brown, not black, and it was very obvious. I was disappointed that I paid $100 and didn't get the color I asked for. For the next month I had to use root spray on my hair so that it didn't look weird, so basically it was a waste of money. It would have been fine if the stylist had noticed the mistake and said something about it. Maybe she just hoped I wouldn't notice. So even though it's a nice salon and the service was otherwise pretty good, I didn't go back because if I'm going to pay to have my hair done professionally I want it to be the color I actually asked for. read more

I ended up coming here for a full foil as they were able to see me on short notice. I saw James who had a quick and efficient demeanor. No small talk, just got to work. He is extremely fast at placing the foils. I ended up needing another bowl of bleach as I have quite a bit of hair, so another $25 added to my tab. My hair ended up taking a bit longer so at the end they were rushing to finish. I was happy with it, it was not as light as I'd hoped for, but James had explained that it was a stretch to lighten it as it was pretty dark when I walked in. Over the next few days I realized the foils weren't all the way to the scalp on my part and the front making it look like I already had grow out. I called and scheduled time to have those spots corrected. James showed me exactly what he was doing and why he wasn't able to get it down further, which was appreciated, however, he was chuckling the whole time as though I was so foolish to not realize this. I did have additional foils placed and he did everything he could to appease me but for $220 I think I'll plan ahead and go elsewhere. read more

I've been getting my hair done at Habitude for the last two years, and though I thought this salon would cost more than others, it seemed comparable given that I wasn't going to one of the top stylists with top prices. I just got online to book my upcoming partial foil/haircut with my usual stylist and whoah to my shock, the price of my service has jumped 42% since my last appointment 4 months ago. I get that the stylist may have been promoted so her rates are now what they are, but what amounts to an increase of $65 (not including increased tax and tip) is a bit much! Bye-bye Habitude. Totally satisfied with my color and cut...until checkout. I booked a treatment for $165 and when I went to pay it was $201. I asked them to clarify the discrepancy and was told there was $25 for an extra color bowl, even though I was never told prior to my foil. They tried to make up for it by giving me a $25 coupon for a future service. Also when I looked at the receipt before leaving I noticed a $11.50 service fee. I asked what that was and they said it was similar to service fees at hotels/resorts/restaurants. I was furious - this was a hair treatment, not a vacation. Poor form Habitude, needless to say I won't be returning to use that $25 discount. read more

I wanted to love this place. I love the coziness. The decor and vibe is cool. But the experience was really lacking. No one greeted me upstairs. I just sat there. I finally asked if I could at least use the sauna (I had the groupon for a pedi and massage) and then, after having walked back and forth past me for 15 minutes, someone perked up and figured out I was there for my pedicure. I was a client! My nail person was simply awful. She acted ike my feet were icky, made disparaging comments on how I should take better care of my feet (um, that's why I'm here), barely worked on the skin at all -- even after I insisted that's why I get pedis -- and aside from negative comments didn't talk to me. The polish lasted a few days, compared with weeks at my usual place. And they don't have many colors at all. A shockingly limited supply, it seemed to me. The massage was awesome. I can't remember my therapists name right now, but she was great. And unlike others, I found the nuts and cranberries to be perfect and filling -- just right to curb hunger between appointments. Another reason for two stars: the guy who gave me a quick makeup makeover was great! But like others said, I'll probably stick to my independent masseuse who charges a fraction of the Habitude price, and my local nail shop which charges 1/3 of the habitude price, but has massage chairs, water, wonderful people, and a drop in policy. It's true that Habitude has almost no magazines, no one ever brought me water (although I asked), and the chairs, while lovely, are not nearly as comfy as a massage chair. Plus, I won't tolerate someone lecturing me about my feet and acting disgusted. My feet are my genetic business and not something I can actually do much about. I recently purchased a Groupon for haircut and scalp massage at the Ballard Habitude. I have thin, fine hair and there isn't much to be done with it except the standard bob, or so I thought before Raven cut and styled my hair. I am thrilled with the results. My hair really seems thicker and it is easy and quick to style. Kudos to Raven for her expertise and clear instructions on styling and caring for my hair. I spent about 3.5 hours here, so I'd like to think I got my money's worth! I came to Habitude because I bought a LivingSocial deal where I got a 1 hr massage, 1 hr facial with scalp mask, use of sauna and a mango smoothie for half price! The atmosphere is cozy and not your typical modern zen spa. You don't really have to prepare for anything - they have flip flops, robes, towels, hairdryers, & showers all available for use. I liked that my massage therapist mixed up lomi lomi, deep tissue, & accupressure technique. My esthetician offered some good tips for my skin problems and was gentle. Best of all, there was no time limit after my services so I got to lounge in the sauna and take my time using their showers. It was around their closing time (9:30!) when I left but I never once felt pressured to hurry. When I paid, I purchased some Aveda products with 10% discount. I'd definitely come back for the occasional treat.. Prices a little high so I'll be keeping my eyes out for more discounts offered! read more

I cannot think of words bad enough to describe my experience with Habitude. Bad attitudes, terrible guest service, mediocre talent. I used to go to this salon regularly, then I finally got fed up after increasingly bad experiences there. Hey-I'm in retail, too. I completely understand the need to "up sell," but most people have enough tact not to try to get you to buy more by insulting you and your appearance. I don't have chemically processed hair. It's not my thing. I want a full head of hair when I am 50. I don't dye it, fry it, or otherwise abuse it. That doesn't make me "mousy" or "Boring" like my stylist suggested. And why is it that every female stylist there came from the island of Ultra Straight Sorority Girls? And they want everyone else to look like a bimbo, too. They used a hair care product on me that I thought I would try. I bought it, but by the time I got home, my scalp was itchy, and my hair was crunchy. I called and asked if I could return it. Erika answered the phone and told me that they don't accept returns, but I could exchange it for another product. I said that I was hoping they could make an exception for me, as I don't need other products right now (nor was I planning to return to the salon for service). She told me I "should have read the fine print"-- that all sales are final. I asked to speak to a manager. Megan (the world's most incompetent manager) got on the phone and instantly defended their corporate right to screw people. Listen--the product cost $25. I could really care less if I don't see that money again. The point is they don't stand behind their products, their service, nor do they have any people skills in dealing with reasonable customers who are not satisfied. She told me that she was UNABLE to help me--as if the her job was so critical to world order that allowing a $25 return would cause catastrophic damage. I told her to forget about it--that I would just tell everyone I know about my terrible experience, and it was only then that she said that I could return it, but they were going to start a file with my name on it so everyone at their "has-been" salon would know that I could never ever get another "allowance" made for me. Do yourself a favor. If you are going to a day-spa to feel pampered or to relax--don't go to a salon that causes you stress and insults you. I had a lot of trouble finding a place to get a quick brow wax for my sister's upcoming wedding. I usually go to a less expensive place for regular brow waxings but thought that because it is a special day, I would treat myself and surely Habitude would do a great job. I rarely get bad reactions to waxings (bumps redness for a few hours) but I knew immediately, after the first strip was ripped off last night that I was in trouble. My skin went with the strip and now I am left trying to Neosporin my face so it heals before this weekend. I am so disappointed and upset. I should have gone to my regular wax place. Be ware, more expensive does not equal a better wax job. read more

I have been going to Habitude for several years now for cuts and spa services. I've always dyed my hair at home and it started getting too dark. After talking to the stylist and her assuring me she could lighten it, I went for it. First she foiled it with a bleach solution (which I was aware of) and my hair turned out like lightened straw. Then she redyed it with a "lighter" brown which as it turned out dyed my hair to the exact color as it was when I walked in that day. The first thing I said was "this is just as dark as it was when I walked in here 4 1/2 hours ago" to which she tried to convince me it was lighter. It was not. So, I paid $200+ for this service that I could have got the same color result at home without all the damage. My hair was very damaged. After I washed it the first time I was very upset and called the manager who gave me tiny samples of product to nourish my hair and made an appointment with the stylist to have her condition my hair to try to fix it. When I talked to the stylist about my disappointment in the hair color she said it was too dark in the first place and when I complained about the damage, she directed me to product to buy. So, that day I walked out of there with $80 worth of product to fix the damage she did to my hair. I have since let them know how disappointed I was via their survey system and have not heard a peep out of them. I find this to be such poor business habits. They should have at least comped the botched job and the product to fix it. Now, it's two months later and I am still trying to deal with the damage and forget about the color, it's back to the same dark color in the first place. Very disappointing. read more

WAY way WAY overpriced. I got a "good enough" pedicure; actually the woman who did my toes was the best thing about the (gulp) $80(!) I spent on a 20 minute pedi; she was a nice lady. But the pedi experience was Nothing special at all. Really. When I asked why it cost $70 ($80 w tip) the woman at the register said it was because they used Aveda product. Aveda is a mid range mall product. Every salon will soak and scrub your feet and massage your calves with a pedi. I really don't need that done with a $50 dollop of hand relief, thanks. Save your money and go to a mall salon. There's no justification for spending $80 on a so-so pedi. Really, this is a half decent "spa" with luxury pricing. I've been to habitude many times. I kept going back because the spa has a very soothing atmosphere. But, it is really overpriced and the customer service is terrible. After today, I will never go back. They truly do not seem to care if you had a good experience or if you ever come back again. First, I checked in for my scheduled 11:30 appt for a massage. They told me they had rescheduled me with a male masseuse and claimed that they tried to call me but got a busy signal. I have a cell phone - I can't think of any circumstance where it would give a busy signal instead of going to voicemail. I saw no missed calls or any evidence that they had called. Second, they failed to mention at that point that they had me scheduled for an 11:00 appt so they considered me 20 min into my 90 min massage. I only found that out when I was given a 1 hour massage instead of 90 minutes. I definitely didn't schedule the appt for 11 as I had other morning plans. Also, I had a 2pm hair appt that was supposed to give me an hour to lounge around the spa - a plan I specifically discussed with the man who scheduled my appt. When I complained about the scheduling mistake and canceled my hair appt the people at the desk apologized with insincerity that bordered on sarcasm heavily implying that the mistake was mine. They initially offered me $25 off my bill but only offered a $25 discount on my next appt at checkout. This was my treat to myself for my last day of maternity leave. I'd recommend against going to habitude - especially if going to a spa is a special/rare treat. They really don't care about their customers at all. read more

I recently went to Habitude and experienced not only my worst dye/style job, but also the worst service I've ever had. Pedro was 15 minutes late for our appointment (first appointment of the morning) and then took 3 hours to do an all over color. Somewhat simple, right? He disappeared on me several times throughout the appointment for 30+ minutes at a time. He then had the woman who shampooed me style my hair (very sweet woman, but wanted to cry at the outcome). When done, my hair was black which I had specifically requested to avoid (was going for a chocolate brown). To top it off, I had scheduled the appointment online for $91 and was asked to pay $175 because he did 3 color bumps?? Was not told this in the appointment. Refused to pay. Never going back. read more
