We stopped by Hachi Ramen in Tempe for lunch. It was our first time visiting, and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted and seated right away and were able to place our order very quickly. The menu isn't huge, so it didn't take too long to decide. I went with the spicy miso ramen, which includes bean sprouts, green onion, corn, a soft, boiled egg, and pork belly. I ordered mine with no meat and added an extra egg. My husband ordered the Chashu Fried Rice, the Karaage chicken, and some gyoza, and everything was really tasty. The ramen had good flavor and the portion size was generous. It's definitely a cute little spot and seemed to be pretty busy. Definitely recommend!
I have been here a couple of times over the years and it has consistently been great! The tonkotsu ramen here is very good. Although it comes with only one slice of pork and one half egg, you don't really miss them much with how rich the broth is. At $12.75 for a bowl it's really hard to beat. The interior has a similar layout to many sushi restaurants, with kitchen side lowered bar seating as well as several tables about for larger parties. I've mostly visited for lunch over the weekends and never had to wait long for a seat
I've had ramen all over the place, and this was hands-down one of the worst bowls I've ever been served. The broth was so thick and aggressively salty it was basically inedible--more like drinking a salt paste than soup. After a few bites I told them I literally could not eat it. Instead of offering to fix it or comp it, they still tried to charge me for the full bowl. So not only was the food bad, but the customer service was worse. If you enjoy over-salted sludge and paying for meals you can't eat, this might be the spot for you. Otherwise, hard pass.
I left a review for Hachi a couple years ago and I have to circle back and rave about them again... because I'm literally addicted lol!! I've had tons of different Ramen in Arizona and hands-down - This is one of my favorite places. The service is always friendly and the food is sooo good. Not just the ramen but, everything I've tried was 10/10.
The service was great and very quick. Everyone was very kind. However, we drove across the valley to try their ramen and were sadly disappointed. The broth was salty but lacked any deep, rich flavor. The toppings were cold and sadly didn't get a chance to warm up from the broth. The noodles were okay. I prefer a springy wheat noodle in my ramen, as is featured on the Yelp photos, but we had some thin wheat or rice noodles in our bowls. The pork chashu was really good. Sadly I don't think I'd return, I really wanted to love this place though.
Easily the best ramen in AZ! The flavor is unmatched and you can tell this ramen was a labor of love. Perfect marinaded eggs with a jammy center and the noddles were cooked perfectly with a nice chew. Not to mention, the service was excellent. I highly recommend everyone try their ramen and you'll understand.
Cane here with a buddy for lunch we both got the special's it comes with a ramen, rice and a side. I got the fried chicken which was excellent it had a slight umami flavor to it, i could have eaten another order of it. I had the Hibachi Ramen which was excellent! The noodles had the perfect chew to them, the broth has a nice balance of salty and savory to it. Its in a strip mall my only complaint was the music it was so loud that its hard to have a conversation. Service was efficient and the waitress made sure our drinks were topped off. We will be back
Not bad. Among the best locally, though it can't compare to the best in Japan. But it's impractical to go to Japan when you want ramen, so this is a good choice in the Metro area. The flavor was good, and was a sort of echo of the flavors we got in Japan. Not the same, but similar. They did provide just one slice of pork, and it was overly large for one slice. That slice should have been halved, and then another half slice added (for a total of three). That would have been better for using chopsticks, and given a bit more pork. The larger slab was not enough pork for the ramen, and too large to handle easily with chopsticks.
It's nice to support businesses run by young adults. That's all you'll see here. The service was excellent and fast. Takoyaki was very flavorful and there were small pieces of tako in each bite. The ramen had nice broth. But half way through I noticed it getting bit salty as the broth cooled down. The noodle was perfectly al dente. Topping was plenty for me but there were options to add more for extra cost. Enjoy! Highly recommend.
I love Ramen. I have tried several here in the area and other cities as well. I will say that for me, Hachi has the tastiest broth. However, I do wish there was an option to add a protein rather than be stuck with only pork belly (chashu). Service is excellent, staff is always very friendly and attentive. It doesn't take long for them to acknowledge you and bring out your meal and drinks. Atmosphere is very relaxed and quaint. I don't think I've ever encountered this place too busy but it's busy enough for regulars to frequent it. If you're in the mood for Ramen, give this place a try!

Second week in a row for raman and this place is great. Good ramen (I got the spicy miso) with a side of fried rice and karaage, and my only complaint with the whole place was that it could have used a little more salt in the rice, but they got the consistency and overall feel of what I used to get back in Japan. The set will put you back $20 after tax but it's hard for one person to finish it all and they can box up leftovers. Very nice staff, clean, easy parking, very good service. read more

Yummmm. Had the pleasure of eating a quick lunch here and ordered the shoyu ramen. I drank every bit of the nice thick chicken broth with al dente ramen noodles, a half soft boiled egg, a slice of chasu and bamboo bits and one square of seaweed. Portion was smaller than other restaurants that I finished it all! $8.75. I've yet to try the other ramen soups! Bar seating seems a bit narrow. Table seating is much better. Service is standard. read more
Good new ramen shop in Chandler. Came with one of the expats from Japan and we both liked it here. Was here a week after grand opening and by then things got settled well and I enjoyed my lunch here. They still don't have a few things on the menu yet (gyoza or miso ramen). I ordered karaage combination ramen. Order comes with a bowl of ramen of your choice, karaage, a bowl of white rice and a few pickled radish. Karaage was cooked perfectly, great flavor, juicy chicken, deep fried just right to create nice texture on the outside. I tired tonkotsu ramen and my colleague ordered shoyu. They served different size of noodles and I really like this ramen for tonkotsu. We both were taken back a little at first as shyoyu didn't have that traditional syoyu color to it but then remembered some of the iekei ramen uses white syoyu. Both tasted a tad watery at first but because of that I was able to finish the entire bowl of soup, which hardly ever happens. Especially Kyushu area ramen is too thick for my liking, I liked their broth. Noodle was cooked good, I would have preferred noodle was bit harder (more texture to it) but I guess I wasn't eating fast enough for this kind of noodles. Chasyu... oh wow wow wow, had a very nice flavor! Hadn't had that good and well flavored chasyu in a long time. I normally get tired of eating fatty pork belly after one but I thought I could eat more as they were cooked and flavored so well. Their egg was flavored well too. Could have had more than just a half came with standard order. Now I know, I should order extra as a side next time. It wasn't as busy since we arrived shortly after they opened for lunch at 11am. Service was prompt and she asked if we agree on shared table before seating others at our 6 seats table. They use re-usable chopsticks, very environmentally friendly. (They even added disposable chopsticks for those who don't like reusable option). They put chopsticks in a container where you get your own from your shared table. Ive started seeing more and more of this type especially in Manhattan and LA. I like this concept, I hope more restaurant will catch up to environmentally friendly ideas. Looking forward to coming back and hope they start serving gyoza by then. read more

Tried their to tonkatsu and special ramen. Heard from the owner his miso is from Hokkaido in Japan and spicy sauce imported from Japan so will def try the spicy miso next time. read more

Very satisfied! I'm visiting from CA and my family lives here in AZ. I told them I wanted Ramen and I just picked the best rating on Yelp. The service was great! My cousins never had Ramen before but they explained the menu to us and the differences in broth. We left happy and full! read more

Wow was this place quite the find! My husband and I slid in after our flight right before they closed. The menu was simple and the service was quick. I couldn't tell you the proper name for what I ordered, but it was ramen in chicken broth. I asked for the pork belly on the side and gave it to my husband (I'm not a fan of pork) and had them add in bean sprouts. We also got a side of edamame. It was delicious and the perfect pick me up after a long flight. Definitely check this place out! read more

Was in the area so I decided to check it out. The food was really good and the prices are reasonable as well. The staff was very friendly and they make you feel at home. Everyone was wearing a mask and the restaurant is clean. Definitely will be coming back. read more

Prices were decent and service was blunt. $3.00 for a soda seemed a little over priced, but the food prices were about average. We got seated immediately and they brought our food to us at a decent time. Got the Karaage combination and the Karaage was delicious! It was made fresh, crunchy, and well seasoned. The tonkatsu ramen broth seemed a little watered down and the noodles were a little too al dente. Meat and toppings in the ramen were good, but a little too much mushroom for my liking. Overall, if you're trying to dip into the ramen world, this spot isn't bad for a first time. There is definitely better, but this place was just okay. I highly recommend getting the karaage. When checking in, you can get a free sesame ball if your order is over $30! read more

I'm kind of torn on this place. Very polite staff, Karaage combo with Hachi Ramen was awesome. They have a token white guy that works there lol, and he seemed new, a little lost as to where to be. They had college basketball on the TV which I was interested in and was actively watching. Their boy noticed I was craning my neck to see around him but he made no attempt to move, even stood in front of me so I couldn't even see the TV. No big deal, just nit-picking since I grew up in the restaurant industry. Otherwise good experience in store. Ordered to-go items for my GF and son. Another Hachi Ramen, takoyaki and chashu friend rice. Very little broth came with it which was disappointing. Didn't cover the noodles and everything at all. Takoyaki was great. Opened the fried rice to find a hair in it (pictured), so I tossed it, I don't mess around with that kind of stuff so can't say how it tasted. Mixed feelings but I'll be back to try it again. read more
I dropped by this place to get warmed up. I had the shoyu ramen combination with karaage. The pickled vegetables, rice & chicken were good. When first trying a ramen place I try the basic shoyu ramen to see if the broth is tasty. The broth was ok, not the most flavorful. The noodles were cooked little longer than I like and the half egg was cold. Overall it was ok, but I've had better ramen in Phoenix. Keep in mind I'm really picky about ramen. If I drop by again I'll try some of the more complex broths. read more

This place has amazing ramen! I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and my kids had a plain Shoyu Ramen. The broth for both was delicious. Each were the best I have had in AZ. They were rich in Pork and Chicken flavor respectively. The toppings were very well balanced and in the perfect portions. 10/10 would recommend if looking for a ramen spot. read more

Went here last night and had a fantastic bowl of ramen! When arriving there was a line and all the tables full, but they turned them quickly and we were seated in 15 minutes or so. I wish while waiting they'd offered s menu to review, but then again it's a simple menu and easy to get through. I had the spicy ramen and my friend had the hachi special. Both were fantastic. I'm definitely interested in repeating the experience! If you don't like crowds try going after 7.30 or before 5 for the smaller crowd, it was much calmer when we were leaving. Our server also indicated during the week it's a bit less crowded as well. The place is a simple ramen shop, limited options, small menu. But, well prepared, fairly quick, and absolutely delicious! Parking was easy, it's in a large shopping center. And you'll definitely smell it before you get in the door! Give it a shot. read more

For reference, I lived in areas with outstanding ramen in Korea, Japan, and New York City. So this review is not limited to local experience but well-informed. I will start with a positive, Hachi delivers an authentic tasting ramen that most ramen shops in the Phoenix area fail to do. The broth is clearly simmered and reduced all day and made from with a dashi that has a subtle umami that doesn't simply come from MSG thrown into a pot like many other ramen shops. That being said, two basic misexecuted techniques ruined my experience here. 1) Oil/Fat I love fat and am the type of person who drinks my coffee with a knob of butter or tbsp of coconut oil. But this place overdid it. The fried rice was so oily that I could not palate the interesting flavors thrown in there. It was pretty drenched. Same goes for the kareage which soaked in too much oil in the batter. The oil may have been too cold when the fry started. Finally the ramen broth had too much fat in it. I ordered shoyu and excepted to palate some good umami from the soy but was overwhelmed by the amount of fat lingering in the broth. Had they clarified the broth a bit, I would have really enjoyed the broth. 2) Salt I love salt. I am the type of person who puts on salt on watermelon, in thai iced tea, and in my coffee. But again, no finesse here. The kareage was salted to the point that I only had one piece and left the rest behind. I hate wasting food but could not bear it. The fried rice also had too much saltiness probably from a heavy hand with the soy sauce or possibly the chashu already had a lot of salt in it. Hachi has good bones. They do it the right way. There just needs to be more balance and nuance, especially considering that is the Japanese culinary tradition. Maybe more use of mirin or yuzu to balance the fat. But definitely less salt. read more

After staying in Japan for a week and eating legit ramen almost everyday. This ramen restaurant by far is the closest ramen we have eaten that is comparable to the ones in Japan. We have tried so many ramen shops here in AZ. AND we finally found this gem. read more

Before I had ramen here, I did not have the greatest opinion on ramen. I've been to dozens of ramen places, including Daikokuya, Rakiraki and Underbelly, but they have just never hit the spot for me. Although these places all had delicious ramen, they ran into the issue of being way too salty after a few bites. I was convinced that I would never love ramen until I found this place. Hachi Ramen is freaking AMAZING! It was the first ramen bowl I have ever finished without feeling like it was too salty. Although I can agree with the negative reviews in that there was a lot of oil/fat in their ramen, I found that to be a plus. It didn't make me feel like I was eating a 2k calorie McDonald's meal. Rather, I felt that the fat added more depth in flavor. The noodles were deliciously chewy, the broth light yet flavorful, the chashu literally melted in my mouth, and oh my gosh have I mentioned the egg yet? The egg is sweet and has this cold yolk inside, which made a perfect contrast with the hot ramen. I have never had a soft boiled egg that was so delightful. I had their takoyaki as well and it was very delicious but did not stand out as much as their ramen did. Their staff are very nice and polite as well, and the food came out promptly. I will definitely be coming back. read more
What a wonderful spot right next to Ikea and Home Depot! I love getting their shoyu ramen or spicy ramen. Both are great sizes and the noodles are fresh and chewy. Their soft boiled eggs are cold but are cooked well, not like a lot of other ramen places that have hard boiled eggs posing as a onsen tamagos. Their pork is also very char broiled and flavorful. Service has always been attentive and friendly. It's a small place so be aware that it can become very busy quickly. read more
I'm so happy to finally make it here and eat this Ramen. I had the Tonkotstu. Everything about this bowl was on point to me. Broth was perfectly simmered to what I expected. I wanted the taste of melted good flavorful pork. Soup was so good that it left my lips sticky. There was a good amount of ramen. There was enough of all the other components to actually taste it in every bite. Meat also was tender and melted in mouth. Egg also on point. Not overcooked at all. There was this slight sweet taste to it as if it was marinated with a touch of sugar maybe? I would have preferred a whole egg. Next time I will order extra. It is so worth it. As I sit here talking about it I wish I had a bowl in front of me to better describe every bite. I will have to go back to refresh my memory just kidding I just want it again. But I will tell you this is a bowl that won't be forgotten. Now let's talk about the staff... I was so pleased with such good customer service. They were so friendly. Chef was very nice. I did like that he took the time to say hi and ask how everything was. These guys do such a wonderful job all the way around. On top of it all everything was clean and well kept. During a very intense ramen craving, I struck a deal with my husband to take me here last night. Not sure why I wanted it so badly but I'm glad I gave in, this place was delicious. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and we got a side of gyoza to try. The broth in the ramen had a velvety texture from the richness with flavorful pork undertones coming through. Noodles were a bit skinnier than usual ramen ones, although I liked them much better. I only felt the need to add a side of chili paste for extra heat and a dash of soy sauce since I love spicy, because overall the taste was perfect. Gyoza didn't come with sauce, you can make your own with the condiments which my husband was a little annoyed at, but we both agreed it was some of the best tasting gyoza we've had. It's a small restaurant and there was only one guy playing waiter, yet he did an awesome job making sure we were taken care of. Super friendly staff and you can watch them cook behind the counter. Overall I think Hachi Ramen deserves the 5-stars from our visit in my perspective. Great food and great service! read more

Have to put in a review of this tiny restaurant. I had the tonkatsu ramen and karaage chicken combo. The real star of the meal was the soup base. So rich and thick and velvety. It's crazy good, the best I've had in Arizona so far. One warning, the soup is scalding hot. Caution to people with cat tongues! Forgot to mention that the noodles have the slight chew and are delicately thin. The noodles complement the dish and lets the broth shine. Soaks up the broth great. The toppings were "top notch"...okay bad pun. But seriously Chasu was excellent, the egg properly molten in the yolk and bamboo shoots and wood ear all good. Very filling, you must be super hungry to throw down the large, its that rich. Karaage is tasty though not life changing. Next time I want to try the spicy bowl and chasu fried rice which looks yummy. Service was good and they didn't rush me so I could enjoy my meal. Seems a lot of people just hang out here. This is a gem that I'll definitely return too. I almost want to move to Chandler so I can eat here more often. read more

Short Review: Hachi Ramen - 8 Ramen - 8men - 8 Man. An interesting name for a ramen shop. Although, I doubt it is what I think it is, I can't help, but to think of an old manga/anime show called 8 Man. Also, another anime called OreGairu SNAFU where the man character first name is Hachiman AKA 8man. But that aside, here at Hachi Ramen, has decent ramen and great service. The inside has a warm contrast with wooden furniture placement and feels like both modern and traditional ramen shop. I think it's nice. The shop is small and could probably carry about 20 - 24 customers. Otherwise, continue down below for more information. Long Review: After some time to think of where we should eat, my cousin and I decided to eat at Hachi Ramen. Living in Avondale sucks for us when it comes to Asian cuisine because we would need to drive far to Tempe/Chandler, but living in Arizona sucks for everybody because there aren't many ramen shop around. Let me emphasize that a bit more, there aren't many GOOD ramen shop around. Finally, a ramen shop that passed the bare minimum of a good ramen. Hachi Ramen is no exception, but it certainly holds up as a good ramen to eat. Arriving here at Hachi Ramen, we were greeted and seated ourselves at the bar. With the relatively small menu, we knew what to get immediately. I got Tonkotsu Ramen and my cousin got Miso Ramen. Both of our ramen was the special Hachi ramen. We also got Takoyaki and Chicken Kaarage as a side. Our food arrived in about 5 - 7 minutes. First, we received our Takoyaki, then Chicken Kaarage and then our ramen. Takoyaki: This was truly a takoyaki. A few Japanese restaurant does not make good takoyaki either because it is too soggy or barely has any tako (octopus) inside the fried ball. Here, while, not really crispy, but not soggy. But the best part is they place a good amount of tako inside the ball. You can taste the octopus. In some cases, the dressing of sauces and mayo can be a bit overwhelming, but here, it feels just about right. Be real careful and eat it into two bites because it's very hot. Chicken Kaarage: Very crispy and juicy. On the side of the chicken is some finely cut cabbages. My only disappointment is that there is no dipping sauce for the chicken nor dressing for the cabbages. Also, portion-wise is slightly less for the price. Tonkotsu Ramen: It came with thin straight noodles. Broth taste somewhat thick and a little rich. The flavor wasn't bland, but felt rather subtle. Basically, it needed a little salt for taste. Oil control was good. If you are the type to drink all your broth, this tonkotsu ramen is perfect for it. The soft-boiled egg is nicely seasoned. Each bite of the egg reminds me of fall season and ochazuke. The bamboo shoots were flavorful having its' own flavor as well as the soy sauce marination. But the best of all is the chashuu. Almost perfectly shaped oval/circle, each slice of chashuu was mind-numbing as not only does it melts into your mouth, but was flavorful with beautifully braised charred meat. I also got spicy paste on the side next to the ramen. It will cost an extra $1.50, but was kind of worth it as it made the broth a bit more flavorful, at the same time made it spicy. For the record, if you chose the miso broth route, it comes with corn and bean sprout as well as thick, but curvy noodles. Overall, I rate the quality of Ramen/Appetizers a B/-A, and in quantity a B+/B. The tonkotsu ramen was certainly good, but I have tried far too many ramen places that could easily top Hachi Ramen for the same price or even less. The broth was flavorful, but only subtly. I think if they cook the pork bones and any other ingredients and let it simmer for longer, they might surprisingly find a rich broth. Also, add just a bit more salt for taste. Everything else was good though. For quantity, one more piece of chashuu meat without charge would be nice, and same goes to chicken kaarage. Also, the kaarage needs a sauce whether it is a wet dip or a dry dip. Otherwise, I would come here again after trying other ramen shop. We'll see. Almost forgot to mention, they were friendly and greeted us in and out and served us water when it was low. It's nothing much, but I can definitely appreciate the service no matter how minor it is. read more
Beautiful authentic ramen here - I tried the tonkotsu on my first visit and can't wait to come back to try the shoyu and miso as well. The tonkotsu broth was delicious and balanced - really flavorful yet not too heavy, just the right amount of fat and salt. Noodles were divine and chashu ultra-tender. I also ordered gyoza which were the best I've had in AZ. Beautifully crisped on one side and the filling was so juicy and packed with flavor. Service was fantastic and I loved speaking to the owner/chef about his origins with making ramen, having trained in Japan. Grateful for this real deal ramen shop here in this area!! read more

Best ramen on the East valley. I always crave it on a rainy day. I've been here several time and It's so comforting every time. The broth and the noodles pair perfectly both in flavor and consistency. Each bite is a different experience then the last. I order it with a side of spicy sauce and it cuts through the soup to cleanse the pallet. For appetizers, the karangee or Takoyaki (or both) are delicious, but are served very hot. read more
This restaurant serves the best ramen in Phoenix, and it's not even close. The depth and richness of the broth is representative of the hours and hours of cooking down meat and bones, and the clean flavor is augmented by a good amount of delicious fat, enough so that your lips will smack with gelatinous goodness while you are slurping down the whole bowl. The egg complements the dish by adding another texture of creamy deliciousness. The char-siu pork could have been a little more tender, but I have no other complaints about this dish. The karage chicken was just okay, as it could have used maybe a minute or two more of frying and a little bit of salt and/or lemon to brighten up the flavor. The owner asked us how the food tasted, and he told us that he opened up this restaurant after he recently came back from Japan, where he learned how to master the ramen cooking process. I believe that the final product that he is serving reflects the time spent overseas, and I selfishly hope that enough customers will fill up his restaurant on a daily basis so that his business can succeed and that I may always be able to enjoy the best ramen in town. read more

No. All of their ramen broths use a pork bone base and their non-ramen items are non-vegetarian as well.

I don't think they make the noodles onsite. But the noodles may be made elsewhere and delivered to them. You should call and ask them.
