Details: decided to do take out and ordered online. We order sushi and the seafood stir fry udon noodles. But when we got our order, they gave us the seafood udon soup instead. A great stop for sushi if you are in chandler. The restaurant is quiet and the service was great. It was a group of 3 and we ordered a sushi/sashimi boat. An amazing presentation with fresh wasabi which is so much stronger than the regular wasabi you usually get. I enjoyed every piece of this boat. Fish felt and tasted fresh. We told the waitress this was our first time here so we would need a few minutes to look over the menu. Our server came over a little bit later and asked if we had any questions because we mentioned it was our first time. She was so kind and attentive and offered her opinions on food items. She checked on us often, ensured our drinks were topped off and provided boxes for our left overs. We ordered the edemame, miso soup, dragon roll, hawaiian roll, pho, combo noodles, bulgolge roll & a Bento box. Everything was delicious, but we had alot of food to go. It was a Sunday evening and my friend and I managed to get seated right away in the heart of their dinner rush. The service has met expectations, and we ended up staying for about an hour. No flaws, but not memorable. The special salmon bento I ordered was fine, but the salmon fillet was sooooo small that it is disappointing. The flavor was finger-licking worthy though. Ok, the bad, its s bit of a sushi dive bar. That being said there are some really cute decorations in the seating area. The only reason I gave it 4 stars though is because the bar where I sat was not really cleaned well or wiped down from prior guest, the bar top a tad grimy. We have been going here for 5+ years. I They have good and bad days lately. I always order ramen soup, but ask for my noodles on the side because there's usually too many. Tonight they were ice cold and my broth was luke warm. We ordered tuna sashimi and they brought the belly tuna, which is more expensive. Some of you may like this, but I find the fatty texture most unliking. My husband didn't want to send it back because he wanted to try it for the first time. He agreed, their red tuna is much better. Amazing quality and value, especially with the lunch specials! Our pharmacy team ordered five different dishes: the sushi lunch combo, chicken katsu bento box, fried rice, and two ramen bowls. Every item came in generous portions and was absolutely delicious. The sushi combo really stood out, the nigiri featured thick, generous cuts of fish, not the usual thin slices you often see elsewhere. Two of the combos also came with a side salad and soup, which was a nice bonus. There was a small hiccup one side salad was missing but when we called, the waitress delivered it to us within a minute (we're just next door). That level of service really impressed us. The ambiance is Japanese but not trying too hard to look Japanese. So far all the food we have tried is good quality, size and excellent value for the money. The gyoza are very good. The spicy asparagus appetizer is delicious. All meals are served with miso soup which is good and a salad which I like a lot with their sweet carrot dressing. I had the chicken teriyaki which has two chicken breasts, rice, fried egg and a corn salad. The teriyaki sauce is delicious and when combined with the egg, corn and rice is a wonderful combination. Didn't love it. I was expecting big things with the ratings and pictures. The ramen lacks robust flavor, but the noodles are very good. My wife really enjoyed the udon. No one loved the sushi. The rice had a little bit of a heavy vinegar flavor to it. The pictures of the sashimi looked good so I will return to try that out but skip the other items. We were at the mall and lost track of time... it was 8:30pm and we wanted Sushi. But where would we find sushi open past 9pm in the burbs?! ((sigh)) Thankfully we found Shu! They are open until 10pm, with last call at 9:45pm. Casual place, with friendly hosts and servers. The Agadeshi Tofu was probably the best I've had here in Arizona. It was served in a big bowl and a ladle so you can slurp up all the yumminess! The sushi was on point too. The salmon sashimi was sprinkled with what we think was garlic powder which we could have done without, but otherwise the fish was delish. My niece also enjoyed her chicken katsu and wants to go back to try the chicken curry. My favorite part of the evening was seeing the kitchen crew walk out when they were done for the night. Pro-tip: The combos are a great bang for your buck especially the sashimi plate which comes with a ton of pieces. They have some rolls on a very good discount every day. Highlights: I was pleasantly surprised by how generous the portions were especially with the sashimi platter. I thought the quality from the yellowtail and salmon nigiri was unexpectedly high. The side salad also had a really nice dressing on it. I would definitely come back to try other items. Lowlights: The way the menu is done is not super efficient since there are some specials written on the blackboard at the front of the restaurant, some written on pieces of paper, and then the menu itself. I can't believe I'm just finding out about this place. It's really hidden in the middle of a shopping center in between a few other restaurants actually. The quality of the sushi is excellent. The Ramen is very flavorful, and I loved the quality of the noodles and other ingredients. But the star of the show might have been the Katsu with curry. We randomly stopped by Shu on our way home from Tucson and we were so pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic and great, friendly service. The server accommodated my vegan diet perfectly. We started with the angry asparagus which was so spicy and delicious. I also had a perfect avocado roll with soy paper and the avocado was perfectly ripe. I also had the vegetarian tofu ramen but subbed the yam noodles because the ramen noodles have egg. I got it spicy and it was amazing. The Las Vegas roll didn't have enough salmon and had too much cream cheese for his liking. I ordered the Vege Lover Combo. The salad it comes with had a orange zest dressing that was light and refreshing. The veggie rolls (asparagus, cucumber, and kanpyo (squash)) were smaller but still good. The veggies were all fresh and crisp. I never had kanpyo on its own in a roll and it was flavorful. The green monster was delish. I liked the soy paper (never had green kind before) and the roll was packed with veggies and a thin layer of rice (which I prefer). Server was friendly and so was the hostess. Was really craving some sushi but this was not a great experience. We ordered sashimi and sushi and you could tell it was anything but fresh. They were covered up every single piece in some kind of lemon garlic powders, green onions and wasabi. I had my child with me so putting wasabi or onions on every piece was not helpful. During our meal, the kitchen guy walked by our table and out the door right by us, when he came back there was a huge smoke cloud of marijuana with him and my daughter even started coughing. We have been regulars here for a few years now. They struggled a bit nearing the end of Covid and during the summer their AC issue made it unbearable. So with the inconsistencies, we were losing the faith and going to other places in Ahwatukee. That hurt as I really like to support local restaurants. They have recently updated their menu and the improvements are noticeable and appreciated. This is a really good sushi place with a good price point. And the ramen is the added plus. When we go to other places, we typically have to choose - sushi or ramen. Surprisingly good margaritas too!
