Our experience exceeded expectations. I was pleasantly surprised at the charming, nice ambiance of the restaurant. There were white tablecloths, service was very polite, and our tacos and fajitas came out hot, fresh, and well prepared. I especially loved the al pastor tacos. It was more meaty and flavorful than most we've tried. Next time I want to try the enchiladas.. they looked amazing! We live in the city but frequent the suburbs on Friday or Sundays when hubby is not working late. On our way, typically after Woodfield Mall, we stop here. Super friendly staff and good food and drinks. I don't drink as much as I used to, especially w our toddler because he loves to drink from mommy's glass so I opt for water so we don't cause a scene arguing about why a 2 year old cannot drink from mommy margarita glass. Oh well, when I do indulge when we are successful at distracting lo from my drink, I will have either the ultimate margarita or my current favorite is the guava martini margarita. Very unique flavors if you love the aroma and taste of guava. Food keeps getting better. I mix things up. I've enjoyed everything from fajitas to enchiladas and fish tacos. Everything is great. Baby loves their rice and beans. We're satisfied especially since he's very picky about about the preparation and taste of his favorite foods. Deserts are wonderfully delicious and big enough to share and possibly have lefts overs too! Most all the desserts are on the menu but they can also make special orders especially if you have certain dietary needs. Just ask. They're happy to assist or recommend something else. Prices are reasonable and there's plenty of parking and indoor seating. There's outdoor seating in the warmer months as well. They also can accommodate larger groups as I've gone here for dinner with 10 or more people. You can always make a reservation if your have a large party. Maybe we'll go there this coming Friday night. Fingers crossed that it'll work in our favor this week. read more

Really yummy spot. Great friendly service. Very clean, you can tell they really take pride in their restaurant, such cute decor. My friend picked this spot for lunch and it was great. I had the molcajete fajitas, so delicious!! And even the next day, they tasted amazing. My friend is vegetarian, and what I notice from other spots, this place offered Spinach enchiladas & burritos, instead of just cheese. She really liked them. So that was cool. For you mezcal drinkers, they have it here. I know that is currently not being served everywhere, but this spot has it. I really want to come back and try more dishes. If I can give this place 10 stars, I would. This place is soooo good!! I can't believe I've been 2 minutes away from it for 3 years, and I never gave it a try based on the ratings. Give this place a try and you will NOT be disappointed. The service is Excellent & there are like 2 different settings to this place, which I LOVE. There's like a more date/nicer feel side with a bar, and the other side is more like a chill/at home type of feel. And the food tastes like it was made with love!! Went here recently with somebody else. We went here for lunch and it probably opened 10 minutes after we came. The first thing I noticed is the phone was ringing and it was announcing the number that was calling and no one would answer it. That was annoying. We're the only ones in the restaurant at the moment. We don't get any menus for quite a while and then the guy doesn't even come back for even longer. We just walked out. We won't be coming back and it looks like from what I can tell the lunch crowd isn't coming here. read more

I'm very picky when it comes the food, I wasn't too excited when my boyfriend picked here but afterwards I wasn't too disappointed! Service was very good until we were ready to leave. Waiter was very friendly and our drinks were always full. Waited about 20 minutes after both our plates were basically empty and just kind of sitting there looking around for someone until they came back with our check. Waited even longer for them to come back to grab the check. So we were pretty upset about that. Food was pretty good!! I went basic and got just tacos which is very hard to mess up, although the beans were AMAZING. My boyfriend was definitely happy with the food he got but then later was feeling a little sick. I would go back for just the beans haha! We would stop back if we were driving by and were hungry, but would definitely try out a few other places nearby. Overall was pretty good, next time we would just hope for less waiting time as we wanted to get going!! read more

My colleague and I came here for lunch last week. There were maybe four people total in the entire restaurant and they all looked miserable. We waited to be seated for about five minutes before the waiter came out from the back and looked at us like he wasn't sure why we were there. We asked if they were open and he motioned for us to sit anywhere. We sat ourselves, and had to ask the waiter for menus and water, to which he responded, "You just got here. Relax." So, of course, we left. As we were walking out, he yelled after us, "Oh no you're leaving? BYE!" If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would. We had our company Christmas dinner here last night and couldn't have been happier! If I could give 10 stars, I would. There were six of us, everyone ordered a different drink and a different meal, and everyone was more than satisfied with the quality of the food, drinks and service. We were treated with friendly and professional courtesy by everyone we encountered working last night, and were even offered a delicious ice cream dessert on the house. The food was hot and attractively plated, and absolutely delicious. I chose the Pollo Con Mole, and it was so, so good! The holiday decor was elegant and pretty, and the holiday lights cast a warm glow over the entire restaurant. The decorating is understated and comfortable, and there was sufficient space between the tables for us to be able to enjoy conversation. Did I mention how clean everything was, including the restrooms? It's clear that the owner has high standards on all levels and a passion for his business. We were so thrilled, as this was our first holiday company outing since we bought our business almost four years ago. It couldn't have been a more perfect evening. read more

Thanks for ruining our memories. Lived in the neighboring apartments 30 years ago. Used to spend A LOT of time at El Sombrero. Loved the Mexican pizza, spinach enchiladas and strawberry margaritas. Made a special trip to show the kids after a family party in Burlington. Stopped in on on Saturday evening around 6:00. Place was barely 1/4 full. Was seated promptly and had chips and salsa brought to the table. It was what I remembered, bland and in need of salt, which they kindly had on the table. There were 5 of us. We ordered a $32 pitcher of strawberry margs, and about $100 worth if food. After 45 minutes of waiting, and never even getting the margs, we wave down our server who explained he had 2 big parties and asked us what we expected? Really? You can tell where things go from here. 20 minutes later we were at Gino's East. Called ahead to order our pizza, sat down, immediately got drinks, and the pizza was right behind it. Totally opposite of what we just experienced at El Sombrero. So again, El Sombrero, thank you for destroying our memories and not giving a crap about it! The kids were very impressed. read more

This is a family owned restaurant with a friendly owner. It's a large space that is bright and clean. The service is friendly and very good. The food was mostly very good and the El Pastor tacos were excellent. We also had a grande burrito with steak that was excellent and lived up to the "grande" name. We took half home. The rice and beans were also very good and they start you off with free chips and 2 types of salsa. The mild salsa had no flavor, but the spicy salsa was very good. The only entree we didn't care for was the chicken mole. The menu said it's a chef's special. It was a large chicken breast covered in mole sauce served with rice, beans and tortillas. I know there are many different styles of mole, but I didn't like this one. The chocolate was the dominant flavor and I couldn't taste any spice. I scraped off most of the sauce. The chicken was also kind of dry. I would rate this 4.5 stars and may have been 5 stars if I hadn't tried the mole. The prices were very reasonable and I will be back. read more
