My husband and I stopped by this place on a whim because it smelled so good and the food looked amazing as we passed by on the street. We ordered the queso as an appetizer. It came in a mini cast iron skillet, and almost tasted like beer cheese instead of traditional queso, but it was amazing! The chips seem like they're probably made in-house as well. I ordered the fried Baja tacos and was very impressed! The batter was perfect, but the chipotle sauce was the star of the show! My husband got the burrito and told me he enjoyed it as well! There was a sign at the door saying it was the top rated Mexican restaurant in Mt Prospect and I can understand why! It is a small restaurant, but we were still able to get in on a Friday evening in about 10 minutes. It's very colorful and fun inside, and the service was great. Mia's is a small but cute Mexican restaurant in Mount Prospect. It has a curbside patio which is where we dined. This is my second trip here and both times I got variations on the skirt steak which is really good. I chose the TAMPIQUENA this time around. This is a cilantro marinated skirt steak served with a cheese enchilada, and covered in mole sauce, black beans, guacamole, grilled onions, and grilled jalapenos. I found the mole to be quite good and the steak was juicy and cooked perfectly. The service was also good, and I will be back to try other dishes. I'd say my only real complaint was the fact that they didn't have a paper menu. It's a scan only menu, and although it's not a problem for me, my girlfriend's phone always has problems with these so we were sharing my phone a bit to decide. I also thought what if someone didn't have a phone or maybe is elderly and didn't know how to work it or have the app? I think that's a little bit of a hassle. I'd also say the salsa is quite bland. I asked the server to bring me something with some more kick - which she did - but I don't think it was salsa. It was more like hot sauce. The chips were very good, but it's time to pair it up with a 5 star salsa. So, barring the menu issue and the salsa, everything else was superb. Mia's Cantina is a family owned restaurant that's loved in the downtown Mt Prospect area!! I had it for my first time yesterday and it did not disappoint. I got the carne asada which came with pico, plantains, and some lettuce. It was definitely tasty but a little too pink/bloody for my tasting. My friends got the mahi mahi tacos and the chicken and steak fajitas, which were all super yummy! We all got frozen margaritas, too, which were easily a 10/10. The only reason I docked a star is the size and wait for the restaurant - they should totally think about expanding the restaurant or moving to a bigger location. They have the customers, just not the space. They also don't take reservations, so for a table of 4 on a Friday night we waited around 35 minutes to be sat. The servers were all so nice and personable, it just took a while for us to get our food. They have a lot of to-go orders, as well. Simple, yet excellent! If you're looking for a step up in your casual Mexican craving, come to Mia's. The chips are fresh and the salsa is good when in house dining. We started our meal with the granadita cocktail - not too sweet and refreshing. My boyfriend ordered the steak burrito dinner. Burrito had a healthy portion of meat which made him happy. He just wished it came with sour cream. Very good otherwise! I had their taco Tuesday special (minimum of 3 tacos). All tacos are double tortilla which I love. I ordered the camaron (shrimp), nortenos (steak with pico), and Baja. The nortenos was my favorite one! It's a step up from just a casual steak taco, but better! After finally heading here this summer, we have been ordering food from here every two weeks on average. I've loved everything I've had - shrimp tacos, fish tacos. I am so upset we didn't discover Mia's Cantina sooner! The food here is absolutely top notch. Even my picky as heck kid begs to go there (he's a fan of the steak tacos). For me, the Tacos Norteños are the winner, I've never had anything like it anywhere else. The flavor of the sauce, the fresh meat and toppings, absolutely stellar. Great beans and rice too. The service is always quick and friendly, the man who has taken care of us both times seamlessly runs the bar and waited on us as well. The restaurant is clean and large, would be great for big groups, and my husband plans to bring his work colleagues for a meal there soon! Decorations are bright and fun. We enjoyed ourselves. This was the first time we have visited. We wanted to try something new that was close. The inside dining was nicer than I had expected from the photos posted on here. They have QR codes for the menu's. The service was good. We had a gentleman and he was very quick and attentive to us. I got a Steak Burrito Suizo. It was very good, they forgot that I asked for extra rice instead of beans but promptly brought it right out with no questions. My guest got the vegetarian tacos. We both enjoyed our meals. Stopped by during a cold weeknight to give it a try. We had a chicken suizo burrito and steak burrito. The chicken had good flavor but the steak tasted like the meat was warmed up. Mia's is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I started out with their delicious margarita and chips and salsa. I'm a big fan of both. The margaritas always require a refill! The opening appetizer, if you don't count chips and salsa (I don't, but my doctor does. Ugh!) was Mia's delicious ceviche! It is so light, flavorful and packed with shrimp. It's a must try. Then I had the flautas! So full of flavor with a perfect crunch! I went with chicken flautas. This is great as an entree or appetizer. There are three to an order, so be prepared to fight for that extra one if sharing! Finally, I had the tamales. Fresh corn and pablano tamales stuffed with the chef's weekly special. The poblanos and fresh corn make these stand out from a standard tamale. They are extremely filling, so plan accordingly! Found this on yelp and stopped by with a big group. They only had one waitress that went above and beyond and it was only here since it was noon. We ordered some Pacifico beer, piña coladas, jarritos and horchata water. Everything tasted great accept for the horchata water it was missing something but everything else was great. The place was super clean as well and have a big bar. The food was delicious we ordered tampiqina which was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well and the enchilada was good. We also got skirt steak which was very delicious as well same cut of meat as the tampiqina with rice and black refried smashed beans so delicious and three plantains so good. We ordered cocktail de camarón had a lot of shrimp and aguacate and very delicious. Carne en su jugo was a big bowel of soup with white beans, chopped steak and a Serrano pepper. The soup was very flavorful and it was a first for me but I enjoyed it. We got a steak burrito and the price of 18 bucks might sound high but it worth it. It is a meal for two and the meat is seasoned very good. The sopes de chorizo you get three small in an order and they are very delicious I recommend them especially as an appetizer. The kids quesadilla with rice and beans was nice presentation and enough food for two kids. Overall I enjoyed this place and I found out it the mero mero restaurant in Schaumburg is owned by them but I seemed to enjoys it here more. I also forgot you get chips and salsa and they are good. I visited the Wheeling location and it's a great place to dine outdoors! Our meal started with chips and salsa being brought out to the table, which is always a plus. The service was very attentive and came outside many times to check on us and fill up our water. The plantains were a hit and everyone loved them! Definitely recommend giving them a try. Our favorite entree was the trio of enchiladas. Being able to taste different sauces and fillings was great and they all were very flavorful. The tamales were cheese stuffed and very tasty, however, the cheese in the middle could have been heated up more because it wasn't very melty. The shrimp tacos were seasoned well, but the shrimp had a bit of a fishy taste. Next time I would try a different taco. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would definitely come back. read more

The food was delicious, we tried: The tamales- they ran out of the meat tamales so our party had the cheese. The tamales were a good size and could be an entree if you wanted. Ceviche- I love ceviche and this was a great version. Sadly, it is a small portion so it's a great starter but not entree sized. Guacamole- delicious and fresh. Elote- grilled and cheesy it's a great version of the street favorite. It comes on the cob so be ready to dig in mouth first. Enchiladas Suizas- ordered them with beef and mole sauce. The mole was a hit; deliciously nutty and creamy. Yum! Pollo al mole- the mole sauce was delicious and the chicken was cooked perfectly. It didn't come with a side so we wished it came with rice or beans. The cocktails were very refreshing. We had the regular margarita and the pomegranate margarita. (Inside of restaurant is very tiny) The food is typically fresh with great flavor & plenty to enjoy....tonight was quite different. With only two servers and a completely packed restaurant, we knew what we were getting ourselves into. We sat down at about 6:15 and left the restaurant at 8:50 pm...this is usually not how it goes. The tacos we typically enjoy didn't even look the same...barely any meat and veryyyy dry. Monday is $6 marg night & we were charged $11 each... we didn't even bother checking in with our waitress because she was completely slammed and we would've been there for another 20 minutes. We came here during the quarantine, and they had plenty of outdoor seating available. We came on a windy day, which was a little difficult, but it would be perfect for a sunny day. Their chips are UNREAL. They are warm and flakey, and perfectly salty. Also, they continue to bring back more if you finish them early, which is always my favorite. I ordered the enchiladas verdes, and my guest ordered the burrito. My guest wasn't happy with her burrito. She thought it was a bit flavorless, and wasn't thrilled with the taste of her sides. However, my enchiladas were DELIGHTFUL. I would definitely order them again. I enjoyed the carrots in the rice, and the green sauce was very flavorful. We walked in on a Friday evening to sit outside and enjoy the weather before things got crazy-hot! Service was prompt and kind, checked back often and refilled our water when needed, no complaints there! The chips and salsa were a little bland to me, but that's just my personal experience. I like lots of lime and cilantro in my salsa with warm, salty chips! We finished the basket (first is complimentary, then a charge incurs) but we weren't eager to get a refill. My Paloma was refreshing, made with grapefruit soda, rather than grapefruit juice. It wasn't terribly strong but still very enjoyable! Unfortunately the house margarita left a bit to be desired- very heavy on mixer and syrupy sweet. The food came out hot and pretty quickly. I enjoyed my Al pastor tacos and could only eat two of the three, so my husband benefitted from the third on the plate. He said his burrito wasn't the best he has had, but couldn't point out anything overtly unenjoyable about it. The rice and beans were good, but again the beans could've used salt, and there were no shakers on the table. Overall, we had a pleasant experience at Mia's and may come back to enjoy the patio during summer months, but we'll probably check out other Mexican restaurants in the area first. read more
