This place is incredible and SO MUCH more than a feed store. My family and I recently visited and we could have stayed all day! We went to Hacienda on a Saturday afternoon specifically to visit the petting zoo but as it turns out the store is still there but the petting zoo is gone. Apparently the county said the animals were too close to the property line (or something like that) so they rehomed all of them. The shop had some cute and interesting items made by artists, like miniature succulents made of wire and beads in ceramic pots, leather cowboy-themed keychains, and jewelry made with pressed dried flowers encased in acrylic. We came here for their line dancing and it was intense! OMG, such a cute place overall, so hidden and such a good secret! The animals and the set up outside, the beers at the bar, the band, just everything was soo fun! We danced, laughed and had a great time here! read more

This seems to be a more advanced group. Great choice of songs, they take all suggestions. Great price for the event = $20/each, a vendor here making great tacos. Beer and wine. Such a beautiful area. What the heck happened to this place!! Is this a feed store or a carnival? Like they have train rides, carnival games, and then some. I guess if you are coming here with kids it would entertain them but in my opinion, I miss the good ol days when they just had animal feed and animals roaming around. Now it's that and one huge party place. Had to drive way in the back to get chicken feed and the worker there just ignored us. I like Hacienda Hay and Feed but they really need to replace the woman with long dark hair in the front store. She acts like she's doing you a favor when helping you. She is condescending, and acts like a bratty 15 year old. Takes asking for help to get her off her stool and to stop looking at her laptop. Not only animal food, treats, gear, medical supplies, but expert advise from the nicest people on the planet. Did I mention a collection of animals to look at? Rabbits, chickens, goats, burro, tortoise (huge tortoises), pig, and emu. These are not pets so keep hands and feet away from snouts, beaks, and teeth. We popped in for an emergency medicine for our dog...bam, Chris knew exactly what we needed. Problem solved; vacation saved. We purchased adorable treats for the fur-kids, cute cards to mail home, and went for a photo op with the barnyard residents. A Carmel Valley must do. Do not feed the animals. I really want to like this place with how often we pass by here to go to Garland. Came in for locally sourced meats which they had and beers which I didn't get a chance to try. We walked through the feed store after the counter woman kindly let us know the grocery was in the back building. The women in the human feed store were nice enough but flies were swarming the pastries in front of them, which they covered with a napkin. She spoke to us the whole time while we picked out what we wanted and when it came time to pay she flipped the screen to me at the tip screen. I felt like she wanted me to tip her on a store purchase, which I did because I can't stand confrontation but I didn't really want to tip in basically what is a grocery store. I asked her about the beer and she said it was around the corner right behind the store. I walk out kinda expecting someone to be there or at least for her to follow us around the corner because that's where we told her we were going. We waited about 10 minutes but since I was already put off for having to tip for groceries, I didn't want to spend more time there and left. The sausages were really good tho. read more

We don't have enough words to describe how much we L-O-V-E this place. Our two little girls enjoy seeing the animals here. And we love their great collection of vegetables and fruits, all very fresh and all priced very reasonably. The staff here are so nice and friendly. One day, a lady was asking about their pineapples. A staff cut one pineapple and gave a piece to her as a sample. I had a piece too and couldn't resist the temptation to buy a pineapple. Later that afternoon, some guests ate pieces of that and all of them asked where we got such a sweet and favorful pineapple. read more

This is a great cheap date! Hacienda Hay and Feed has been around forever and is a great go to store for all things livestock. But even if all you own is a pet rock it is still worth the trip. They have their own little petting zoo consisting of an emu (don't pet that) a burro, goat, chickens, tortoises and more. Also, they sell produce, some organic, out front. If you are wondering what to do with little kids, it's a fun destination for no cost, especially at Halloween as they always have a hay bale haunted house and lots of pumpkins to choose from. My family and I decided we were interested in having a coulple of chickens so I went to Hacienda Hay and Feed to check out chickens and to see what I needed to keep them. I stopped by last week and saw hens there were about six weeks old and ready to go outside. I planned on returning to Hacienda Hay and Feed once our coop came in the mail. When I returned a couple of days ago, all the young birds had been sold and we were told chicks would be coming in a few days. Chris, the owner asked how many birds I wanted and I said just two. Chris said he'd sell me two from his own flock that were about 5 months old. I thought this was such a kind gesture, especially since my 7 year old was disappointed when he heard we'd have to wait a few more days to get the hens. Chris and his staff were more than helpful in getting us the two chickens and showing me what I needed for the two hens. He even told me to use shredded newspapers instead of buying bedding for their coop. I initally thought about puchasing all of my chicken goods (feed, grit, oyster shell, etc) online but I believe in supporting the local business man and after seeing how awesome and helpful the staff is at Hacienda Hay and Feed, I will be doing all of my chicken good shopping there. My two young children really enjoyed seeing the other animals that are on the property. Being a "city girl" all of my life, its a treat seeing the goats, pig, and chickens! Friendly, personable staff that always have the best pet food for our dogs, cats, horses, and chickens. They always provide a fun atmosphere, with live animals (a small petting zoo!) and a hay maze at halloween time complete with great pumpkins and great prices. Go Tom and Chris! read more

I think the animals in this "petting zoo" look pathetic. Especially the Emu in it's too small cage.. It made me feel sad. I realize they have been there forever. The store and fresh farmer's market food are great. It's just the zoo part that I find depressing. read more

The best place to get firewood for camping! If you are headed out for camping at any campsite near Carmel it is worth going a little out of your way to stop here. The prices are so cheap, they are totally friendly and honest and when we went they had three types of wood to choose from. I think we paid $6 for more than two nights worth of wood. They suggested the Eucalyptus for a longer burn and we ended up not even using all we got by the end of the weekend it lasted so long. This is a great place for firewood! read more

Been going to this place ever since I had my first horse and these people are awesome! They treat me like a good friend - always joking and always, always polite. All of the staff, including the owner Chris, know their products and know the schedules for different deliveries. If their out of something, they know when a delivery might arrive or suggest something else temporarily. Though I usually take my order with me, when it's something large - like rubber mats for SR's paddock, they will deliver and the charge (if any) is certainly reasonable. Nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Prices are competitive with "Big Box" stores,but better quality. They have everything you could possibly need for your animals (livestock to pets, and more things than you could even think of), even a great selection of wild bird food. I love the Zoo! (sorry whomever 'reviewer' you are from far away and ignorant of the love and care those animals get). I sometimes host youths (12-15 year old) from Asian Nations and one of their favorite things while here is Hacienda Hay and Feed, Chris is always so kind to the kids and they are always excited to see and touch live animals (something many of them have never seen or done before). Halloween is a must visit to buy pumpkins. The produce stand sells only top quality (again at very competitive prices). It's just a fun place to shop at. read more

My little dog had an eye infection for a week. We tried hot compressing, Colloidal Silver drops in her eye but one day she woke up squinting her eye and blinking rapidly. I looked in her eye and it looked like raw meat. I called a new Vet who couldn't see her who suggested an eye specialist who wanted to charge $180 for the visit plus "any tests and meds"! My boyfriend said that there was a medicine for cows and horses with pink eye that you could get at a feed store. I called and spoke to the owner who was very helpful. We purchased NFZ powder and a couple other items and had fun visiting the animals and pet a few of them. The whole experience was wonderful! The owner made my doggie a free doggie tag and she did tricks for them. We felt so well taken care of and left extremely happy. 4 hours after putting the powder in my doggies eye...the swelling and redness went WAY down, and she had her eye completely open and didnt appear to be in pain any longer. It is day two now and her eye is even better. Hacienda Hay and Feed saved me money and trauma from having to take my dog back to a place where she was traumatized recently with a very difficult blood draw on her throat. I love this place. I plan to get some hens from them soon. Last year, before the raccoons feasted on my birds, I got organic feed from them. The price was right and my special order was always in when I needed it, as well as fresh hay for their nests. It's a fun and friendly place with barnyard animals to enjoy as well. read more
