I had updated my review of Hadeed's service last year (May 7, 2019). When they offered to send my silk rug to a specialist, I was impressed that they made that effort to correct the color run in my rug. When the rug was returned (it couldn't be repaired) to Hadeed, Joe Hadeed told me that he had received only a package of underpad. I contacted the rug specialist and he was clear that he had shipped the rug. The package was tracked by UPS and weighed 60 lbs which was about the right weight and would have been a ridiculous amount of rug pad. When I questioned his story about the rug, he became abusive and shouted at me. I hung up on him and attempted to continue discussion by text. At the same time Hadeed was telling me this, he filed a damage claim with UPS on the rug, which he described as a "very expensive rug". The entire time, Hadeed has continued to maintain that he does not have my rug, he will not return it or compensate me for it. He did, however test me a copy of correspondence with UPS about the claim. So I know he has the rug, but won't return it. I took the case to arbitration through the Attorney General's office and Hadeed refused to participate. Joe Hadeed is a liar, a cheat and a thief. There are honest rug cleaners in the Richmond area. He isn't one of them. read more

Took a small rug there to have it cleaned 24 in by 24 in when I got it back I noticed an area of it that was damaged on a corner took it back they said the work had been done 3 years ago I said no y'all cleaned it two months ago we haven't even put it down we've been out of town and so long story short they did not fix it on their dime they're going to charge us an additional $99 when they had already fixed it 3 years ago and cleaned it so stay away please stay away read more

Hired them to clean my Carpet and do a valuation. It took them many weeks for the valuation report, I had to repeatedly bug them. When I got the report, they valued the rug as being 20 years old. It's 150 year old antique. Been in my possession 50 years......and they estimated it's as being 20 years old. i've been using Mercer rug cleaning service for about 30 years and I've always loved them unfortunately since they've been purchased their prices have skyrocketed. they really try to upsell you continuously on services that you do not want or need and they round up the size of your rug if it's an inch bigger than you say which really adds up in extra cost. Truly a very disappointing experience. My son spilled a red beverage on our carpet and I immediately called the company and they picked the carpet up that afternoon. The representative I spoke with made me believe they could get the stain out so I agreed to the $330 cleaning fee. I tried several times to get updates from the company but they only let you speak to their staff in their headquarters who were not well informed on the state of the stain. After 2 weeks I got a call saying the stain did not come out in the initial process (during which they don't use chemicals?!?) but if I want to pay another $380 they could try another process. Over $700 to clean a rug, with no guarantee that even then it would come out is absurd. So I'm getting a run back in basically the same condition it left my house but am out $330. We took two area rugs to the Moore Street location be cleaned after a major spill. While it doesn't look like a customer outlet when you pull up, just ring the bell! We did, and very quickly the door opened and were were taken care of. In and out in less than 15 minutes and the price was as quoted and we were promised our rugs in a week to 10 days. A week later we got a call that our rugs were ready. We pulled up to the store, the door was open, and there were our rugs wrapped and ready to go. The customer service person was busy, but we were in and gone with our rugs in less than 5 minutes. The rugs were clean and bright and smelled fresh. They offered all these other services after they had my rugs and said that what I had done did not include the discount I had to do a different service. In September 2017 Hadeed Mercer cleaned an expensive wool rug which had been soiled by a neighbor's dog. The rug was returned to me the beginning of October. After the delivery men left I noticed a damaged abraded spot about 12" in length - the animal print pattern had been totally "rubbed" out of the carpet and the fibers were totally frayed and pulled apart (mind you, this was not near the spot I had cleaned.) Mercer again picked up the rug on November 1st and took it back to their Springfield,VA location. I have had to call repeatedly -- when I finally talked to an inspector, he rudely told me that his "team" said the rug had been damaged by furniture in my home -- there was NEVER any furniture on top of this spot! It is now November 29, 2017 and an email from the company says they "stand by the results of their cleaning" and are ready to deliver my rug. I have never dealt with a company that is so unprofessional and rude. DO NOT USE HADEED MERCER FOR YOUR CARPET CLEANING AS YOU WILL BE SORRY. I drove to the Scott's Addition location today at 4:45 to drop off 3 rugs for cleaning. Your advertised closing time is 5:00. After ringing the bell, I watched a girl crouch down, run through the loading dock area and start turning off the lights. I watched her through the windows trying to discreetly close things down in the office and ignore me. Does she think I am blind? Any reason she could not come to the door and say we are closing early? Really uncool to waste my time. read more

Called Hadeed to have a rug cleaned. They scheduled a pick up, followed up with three more calls about the pick up and came on time for the rug. Two months later, I'm calling them to find the status of the rug. It took several calls to finally get through and rug was returned about a month later. The chemical smell was so strong that we had to remove it from the house. We let is air out for weeks in the garage unrolled. It never got any better and we ended up throwing it away. Called Hadeed several more times and left message about the problem and no one would return the call. I continued to call weekly and FINALLY spoke w/someone who advised they would send a gift card to reimburse the cost of the cleaning. It never arrived. We will never use them again. read more

While picking up a rug today at Hadeed Mercer Rug Cleaning on West Moore Street, I observed a male employee helping a senior citizen pick up and load a rug into her vehicle without wearing a mask. When I asked where his mask was and why was he not wearing one per Gov. Northam's order, he just gave me a blank stare. He made no attempt to out a mask on nor was one visible on his person. IF you care about how a company treats loyal customers - avoid Hadeed Mercer!! We have been customers for over six years, spending thousands of dollars on carpet cleaning. This time, the crew that picked up the rugs damaged a piece of expensive furniture. Accidents happen, and, we were assured, this company is "large and over 60 years old - they will take care of this". After weeks of being passed around various levels of customer service reps and management (one of whom told us in a whispered, embarrassed voice that "if you look on the back of that paper you signed, we don't have any responsibility for the damage that our people do in your house. That's all on you") we were told that they would give us $300 but to go any higher (cover all the cost of the repair) "we have to talk to "Mr Hadeed". That was three weeks ago. We never heard back. They dropped our rugs off this week, collected another $3300 from us and left. We've never heard back from "Mr. Hadeed". Never saw the furniture repair person for an estimate. Nothing. Needless to say, they have lost a client and we, obviously are left with finding someone to repair the damage. read more

get your act together.......... i got five sales calls to up my price (disinfect rugs to which i said no, re-weave to which i said no,,,,etc.....) and nobody my got my return messages????? i now have 3 clean rugs (i hope) without padding because nobody listened to me???????????????? I had one rug cleaned. They did ok, I guess. The staff could be a bit friendlier, and their time spent on my rug was a bit long. I am going to go somewhere else that gets the 5 star ratings. I wish I would have heard of YELP before i took it in! There is one other thing. It's that commercial they run - but not the one I saw to entice me in. It has a man, his foot in a close shot, stepping in real dog poop. What gets me is they run it at dinner time on the local channels!! Jesh! How gross! read more

At the receiving dock 'upsell' attempt I really thought about loading it back up, but let the wife talk me into leaving it anyway. (Don't believe a phone estimate as a complete job, they don't mention that!) Alexandria calls again to try to upsell, tells me rug will be back in R, VA in 2 days or so, 10 days later I'm still waiting - AFTER CALLING BOTH TO COMPLAIN. He got a call a few days later saying that our rug needed to be rebounded That is not the case at all because the rug is practically brand-new.. Needless to say, we will not be returning. This is maybe the most unprofessional, dishonest company I have ever dealt with. Their employees are literally unable to speak on the phone. They seem illiterate. They scheduled a pickup and then simply didn't show up, then they acted like it was my fault that they didn't show up! Then they hung up on me and refused to answer my calls. Honestly I have never dealt with such an unprofessional company and I would never send them my rugs now. All of their employees should probably be fired and competent, professional people rehired. Buyer beware....Hadeed Mercer's quotes and pricing vary depending on who you speak to, what day of the month it is, what 'offer' is currently available. Like Haynes Furniture, there's always a 'sale'. The salesperson who quoted the price to clean two rugs and buy new pads neglected to mention an optional charge for 'sanitizing and disinfecting'. When the rug was picked up, the driver shoved an invoice under my nose and asked me to accept/decline the same with no mention of what it was, or what the cost was. In my rush to get them out the door (Covid concerns) I checked the 'accept' box and as a result, my total bill jumped from the quoted $900 to $1200!!! Had someone explained the cost to me I would have declined. If you use Hadeed, beware of hidden costs! read more

I thought I would post this so it may help others. I had a Chinese silk/cotton blend rug cleaned here about 10 years ago. It came home smelling like mildew. I had them reclean it. It still was still not right, and the company was rude and unhelpful. So I rolled it up and stored it. Fast forward to today, I took it to a local rug buyer in NOVA who told me my $1,200 rug is worthless because the cleaning ruined it. Apparently, rug cleaning companies have insurance, and if they ruin your rug, you can file a claim. It's too late for me, but hopefully, this will help someone else. read more

This company is a bunch of criminals! They have lied directly to my clients who had their custom wool rug cleaned by them. They ruined the carpet and then tried to repair it without acknowledging their mistake. This rug had a border attached at the factory and after cleaning, we noticed that the rug was not only in poor condition but smaller than the original size. They cut off the border, cut the inside of the rug and re-attached the border...when they did so the border the was made narrower as was the body of the rug. After over 3 months of calling and talking with Joe Hadeed and various others they offered NO compensation for the damage and claimed they had done NO wrong. NEVER use this company. They will not be truthful and will damage your rugs. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Don't believe the phone quote....it's a lie! After telling me 7-10 days to clean, it was about 21 days. Got an email with the total cost on Friday, when delivered the cost was $100 more. Delivery guys would not leave without payment. When I called, they disconnected me, I called back. Apparently the extra $100 was because I had not added the coupons! What? I had an email with a final cost. There was no explanation or acknowledgement of that. When they saw I would not budge, the "coupons" applied magically came to the original pricing. Seriously? To add insult to injury, when I opened up the carpet, it still had dog hair in it, like it was not vacuumed. So very disappointed. Save your frustration and wallet. Don't use them! read more

Just picked up a Tibetan rug that my dog had soiled. I am very pleased by the service and the cost was reasonable.

My 89 year old mother had a rug picked up for cleaning. She paid an extra charge for "Neutralizing" due to a pet urinating on the rug. When the rug was ready, she had the rug delivered to her grandson's home because she was giving things away due to moving to a smaller home. He was also in the process of moving, so the rug stayed rolled up as it was at delivery. When he and his wife found a new home, they took the rug to their new home and unrolled it. The urine smell was so strong that they had to remove it from the home immediately. This was in December and the rug had been cleaned in April. I called Hadeed's to see if anything could be done. Obviously the extra money my mother paid to have the rug cleaned and neutralized had done nothing , and nobody had bothered to tell her....they just rolled it up and I guess hoped she wouldn't notice? It took me quite a while to get any call back, and I had to keep calling to be able to talk with someone. I finally talked to Samantha who told me that they could clean it again for a reduced price, but it had been so long that their company policy wouldn't allow them to do anything else. We were not interested in paying any more when it didn't work the first time. She said she would have Mr. Hadeed contact me because he loved working with and helping customers. I told her I would also send him a letter to explain everything. Well, I never got a call and I never heard anything from the letter. I did tell him that I didn't expect him to do anything at that point and we had disposed of the rug because nobody wanted it in their house, but I would think I would at least get a response. Before I posted this, I called to make sure he saw the letter because I didn't want to be unfair. What I surprise that I never got a call back . If I could give them a zero I would. I wish had read the previous reviews before using them. I had asked several times if they thought they could get my stains out with a regular cleaning and while they didn't say the work "guarantee" I felt very confident it would not be a problem based on the conversation. The girl kept saying "it won't be a problem". Then I had the consultant from Richmond call me to schedule the pick up and she proceeded to assure me that the stains would "not be a problem". She even told me that pet stains were the least of their problems. I got a call from the cleaning guy saying he could get the stains out. I was very upset. I felt cheated and lied to so that they could get the sale! Here are 4 months later and not one manger has called me back. They even tried to give me late fees for months I didn't pick up my rug even though their managers never called me back. I finally spoke with them today and they got rid of the late fees and admitted I had received false information on one of my calls with them. Then I was put on hold for 15 minutes to wait on a manager. Would not ever consider using them again! read more

PLEASE be aware!! Mercer used to be a great company. Too bad they were taken over by Hadeed and not for the better!! They picked up one rug on 4/25/12 and promised it back in 7-10 days. They called to inquire if they could resurge a rug that did not need it. Then they didn't deliver the rug back until 5/8/12 and we gave them two more to clean. We were hesitant to let them have them but they promised they would be back on Friday as we were having family in for Mother's Day. Friday came and went with no follow-up. My wife called on Saturday (5/12) and they said only one rug was ready so we told them just to wait. They delivered both rugs on 5/16. But it gets even better ... Neither rug had been cleaned! My daughter has a pink chair which "sheds" and there was pink fuzz still all over the one carpet. We have a bagless canister vac and my wife emptied the canister and then proceeded to vacuum the rugs and got a huge pile of dirt out of them. Nothing had been done. My wife called right back and the girl who answered was apologetic but its 5/20 and there has been NO FOLLOW-UP by them to make good. Cannot believe after the other blunders that they returned two rugs that had never had anything done to them. We also checked with a neighbor who had used them and she said her rug came back smelling really bad and she had to send it back. read more

Had 2 rugs cleaned in April 2017. Requested an appraisal on 1 rug. When rugs were picked up, one had a strange material adhering to it in one spot that was not there before I had it cleaned. The appraisal was never performed and every time I called about it, Lisa kept giving me an excuse. Finally asked for a refund on the appraisal. $310 disappointed dollars spent. In cleaning out out son's house to sell it, we found about 8 oriental rugs that we had given him when he bought the house. Some of them had been thrown into the attic, and others we found in the workshop where they had been used as mats. They were greasy, dirty and in pretty rough shape. I gradually dropped them all over several months off at Mercer for cleaning, repair and moth proofing. I was amazed at how clean they came back. Some of the rugs needed repair, and I had them do that as well. The Richmond and Northern Virginia personnel were friendly and very helpful. It wasn't cheap, but then buying a good oriental rug isn't cheap either. They are all back in our house, and it's great to have them! I have used another rug/repair shop in Richmond in the past, but I was very happy with Mercer. The rugs are beautiful again. read more

Wish I had read the reviews before I left my rug. I have used Mercer for years, but never again. They damaged my rug and I had a terrible time getting return phone calls. I left the rug August 29 and just got it back today, November 7. It is still not right and Christina said she could send it back for"that little thing." Little thing----the surging isn't tied off. That little thing will come loose with normal wear. I said no. I will fix it myself. On top of this, I waited over one hour for them to cut a pad. I decided against it and got a credit. The man in the back was too busy on his phone to carry out my rug. I carried it out myself. Then he decided to put some tape on the wrapper. Guess he finally finished his texting. Do not ever use this company for rug cleaning. They have had my oriental since July 2016 when they damaged it. Now the spokesperson says that "Hadeed-Mercer is not responsible for "Running of Colors" during the cleaning process." Who would pick a rug cleaning company that says this is acceptable?????!!! AND they used some sort of machine that abraded the carpet all over it so much that it looks like there are worn out strips throughout the carpet.
