Like everyone else who was a customer of Mark's for decades, I was really sad to learn that he had retired and sold his shop. I've taken my car there twice since the switch and am very pleased that the high standard of service Mark established, seems to be carrying on with the new owners. Yes, the charges are higher than before, but so is everything else these days, and I feel I'm still getting good service and decent value for the money. They do a comprehensive vehicle inspection with every oil change, which I appreciate since my car is 14 years old. They also checked the records and alerted me to an outstanding recall notice on my differential, that I was completely unaware of. The first owners of the shop were absolutely amazing as soon as the second owners came it became such a mess the workers don't know anything what they are doing. The owner of the shop was completely lying. He told me the car was completely fixed and I still had the same issue. I came back and they said oh yeah, we only did one of them, but in reality they told me the car was perfectly fine when I left the place, they did the alignment on my car and they completely messed it up when I was driving home the car was completely all over the place. I almost went to a ditch. I went back to the police and I told him what was wrong and they did absolutely nothing about it. All they said was we will take it to corporate that same day when my car was messed up I had to go to just tires. The car was very unsafe to drive, I really do not recommend going to that place the new owners don't know what they are doing and the new mechanics don't know as well and i posted an image on how they did the alignment at hagens i do not recommend this place to no one read more

I used to go to that shop on Mannheim when it was under the previous ownership. The mechanics there are great and know what they are doing under the hood. That is a plus. My experience with the new ownership was not so pleasant. I went in for a oil change and tune up, and had a battery connection replaced due to oxidation. My bill was over 400 dollars. ***New Ownership since fall 2010*** Go to Hagen's for any mechanical issue. Mark, the owner, was there and listened to my issue. You could tell he loves cars and has been working on them for decades. He listened to my symptoms...and pretty much knew how to fix it just from my explanation. I usually try to give my reasons why the car wasn't running right...and he explained why he felt it was a different cause. Saved me a ton of money doing that... The mechanic that worked on my car was also experienced. During my repair...they noticed that I was really running low on my brakes. I already knew this & was only a couple of months from getting that done. Mark came out to let me know that I needed a new brake job. He instantly started to apologize and wanted to show me why I needed this. This is the first time that anyone ever taught me how to tell when the brakes need to be done. Even more...he only recommended the front brakes where another shop wanted to do both front & back. Overall...I felt that these guys knew what they were doing. They were honest & fair. They were quick and knowledgeable. The price for the work they did was average (which is fine since I know it was done right). My husband I and moved to the area a little while back and have had quit a few experiences with mechanics really screwing us over. When my husband told me he tried this place before Yelping it I flipped because I was so nervous they took us for a ride (pun intended). I called all around asking for quotes to find we got a really good price. Since then I've been coming here with my car too and always get very friendly service. They explain to me exactly what needs to be done and never act fishy. I can tell they are knowledgable kind people who love what they do. So far the prices have been good if not great (Fingers crossed I don't need anything too major anytime soon). Also, this might be a small thing for some but as a woman feeling safe is important (I've gone to some sketchy places). The waiting room is nice and I feel comfortable relaxing while watching whatever is on the TV, munching on something from the candy dish while waiting for my car to be serviced. All in all, I definitely recommend this place and will be coming back soon! ... Especially since my Change Oil light is on. read more

This place is GREAT! I live in CA and was considering buying a collector car in Chicago. I was calling various shops to find one that could do a pre-purchase inspection. The owner (Mark) answered the phone at Hagen's and immediately took interest in doing the work. But, they were swamped and didn't really have time to do it today. When I explained my time crunch he made time and did the inspection. The inspection should have taken 30 minutes, but they spent about 1.5 hours with the car. They went above and beyond what they said they'd do on the phone. I commission a lot of pre-purchase inspections around the country, and these guys found small things that inspectors often miss who charge 3X as much as Hagen's charged me. Now for the kicker. I told them I wanted to pay them extra money for the extra time they took (not to mention fitting me in when they didn't really have the time). They would NOT accept any extra money from me. My only regret is that this shop isn't in my own home town because they would have all my automotive business. Bottom line, they were honest, friendly, and did quality work. On one of the coldest days of the year Mark arranged to have me towed in and looked at my car before noon! Although it turned out to be a major issue vs. the minor problem I was hoping for he told me costs and alternatives for my engine repair. There was no pressure, and I ended up not putting money into the repair on his advice although he could have easily swayed me for the $2500 repair. I can't recommend this place enough! read more
