The bank was threating us because they has not received the title, the temp tags ran out on the car. One excuse was he's very busy with other businesses, if that is the case then perhaps he should give up the car business if he can't properly run it. Other excuses were he was on vacation twice during those 2 months, then it was the courthouse was short staffed and behind. I called the courthouse to find out he didn't even apply for the registration until April 1st. So if you buy from him be aware you may not get you title and tags for awhile without a fight. But I will have to say the girl that is normally there is very nice and competent but there is nothing she can do about tags

We had already paid a $500 deposit on an earlier date, which was subtracted from the price above at the time of vehicle purchase. We received from the seller a 3-month, 3000-mile warranty as well. The following problems were discovered during the 3 months after we purchased the vehicle: Dec 27, 2023: When driving to meet friends in Pigeon Forge for Christmas, a hybrid alert came on, and instructed us to pull over immediately. The vehicle was towed to Rusty Wallace Toyota for diagnosis: Hybrid Oil Pump with Motor Assembly failure, Code P2601. - Towing cost to Rusty Wallace Toyota of Morristown and Top Notch Auto: $112.50. - Diagnosis at Rusty Wallace Toyota of Morristown cost: $167.80. - Rental car cost: $388.10. - Replacement of hybrid oil pump with motor assembly by Top Notch Auto of Johnson City, TN: $850.65 (Not covered by our Top Notch warranty.) Feb 29, 2024: When having tires rotated at Johnson City Toyota, the following issues were discovered: - Front struts recommended replacing. - Sway bar end links both front and rear rec'd replacing. - Both front lower control arms rec'd replacing. - Replace rear subframe due to bushings being dry rotted, torn, and rusted out. - Fix driver side axle seal leaking. - Fix banjo bolt on the back of the engine leaking. - Replace broken air vent to the right of the steering wheel. - Total diagnosis cost: $738.69. - Proposed cost to perform all repairs by Johnson City Toyota: $19,252.38. Top Notch Auto said that none of these repairs were covered by their 3-month warranty, but they told us we could drive the vehicle safely until we could afford to pay for them. Mar 9, 2024: While driving to the North Carolina coast to meet family for vacation, a hybrid alert came on again instructing us to pull over immediately. The vehicle was then towed to Mark Jacobson Toyota of Durham, NC. - Diagnosis: Hybrid Oil Pump with Motor Assembly failure, Code P2601 (same error as Dec 27, Top Notch said they repaired). - Towing to Durham, NC & Johnson City, TN cost: $618. - Diagnosis at Mark Jacobson Toyota, Durham NC: $172. - Rental car cost: $475.76. - We no longer trust the Highlander to be safe and stopped driving it after it was towed back to Johnson City. It's been sitting in our driveway unused since then. Total cost of vehicle as of 30 July 2024 (already paid and future repair estimates): $40,064.48 Still carrying the loan and insurance for that vehicle, we had to withdraw funds from an investment fund I've saved to since 2007 to buy another vehicle to replace the bad one. I intended that this investment fund would help take care of my severely disabled niece when I and the other elders of her family were no longer around to take care of her. She is 7 years old and lives with severe brain dysfunction, severe vision impairment, considerable motor difficulties, and severe speech impediment. The very first night I had the truck, the mirror glass fell out of the housing and shattered on the driveway. I brought it in immediately and ordered the mirror replacement which took about a week to get. Unfortunately they ordered the passenger mirror instead of the drivers side mirror. At the same time they were supposed to to finish the detailing since it was dark and I did not notice how bad a job they did the night before. The detailer did not get my job the day they had it, so they kept it for another day. Later I found out they failed to complete the request recall, forcing me to take yet another trip Now the brand new tire has a defect on the inner sidewall, so with less than 1,000 miles I have to purchase a new tire. The management is not easy to work with, and I have never been so disappointed. My sales guy Chase Weaver apologized but sometimes an apology is not enough when you're buying an $82K vehicle you expect reasonable service. Replacing a defective $300 tire seems reasonable. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere when buying your next vehicle.

Great selection of used (and new of course) cars, and they update their inventory quite often. Price wise, they are also very competitive. Their idea is to set the price of their cars as low as possible while handling the tricky part of earning a profit after all is said and done and all expenses paid. The "only" thing bad about them I can think of top of my head is they deal with an aftermarket warranty company called GWC Warranty and they are an awful company to deal with. Couple years ago one of the vehicles we bought there had a problem within 1-2 weeks. We dropped it off at a repair facility and we find out that he warranty won't cover because the car has not been properly maintained?? Approached Friendship Hyundai to see if there's anything they can do considering that any maintenance done to honor warranty service should be in the books by them and yet there was nothing I can do. Spent $3000 on the extended warranty and other problems have surfaced that I had to personally deal with were not covered because there is no proof of maintenance. Again, at this point our new to us car was only fresh off the dealership lot not even 2 weeks. Soooo!! If you buy a car here (which I still whole heartedly recommend), do not opt out in an extended warranty through GWC warranty. They are a shady company and I am shocked that this dealership does business with them.

Melissa Carney July 7, 2026…read moreHyundai Motor America Consumer Affairs Department P.O. Box 20850 Fountain Valley, CA 92728 Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Hyundai of Johnson City (Dealer # TN042) and General Manager Tony Holechek Vehicle Information: Year/Model: 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding an unacceptable service department incident and unprofessional treatment by dealership management at Hyundai of Johnson City, located at 3408 N Roan St, Johnson City, TN 37601. On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, I attended a 2:00 PM service appointment for my 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT, which I purchased brand new from this exact location. I brought the vehicle in because I began hearing a frustrating fluttering noise coming from the dash when the air conditioning system was running. Upon arrival, the service counter employee, Richard Yeager, had me sign a service intake document. Mr. Yeager explicitly informed me that there would be a "possible diagnosis fee of $89.95 if the problem is caused by outside influence." I agreed to this specific term in writing. When I returned to retrieve my vehicle, the service consultant verified my original concern. They explained that technicians had removed and inspected the blower motor, searched the area with a scope, and ultimately blew the area out with an air hose. The noise stopped, but the technicians explicitly noted that they found absolutely no debris or evidence of an outside influence. Despite failing to prove or confirm that an outside object caused the issue, the service consultant presented me with a bill for $223.05. Because my vehicle is covered under warranty, I requested to speak with the service manager to dispute this groundless charge. I was informed the service manager was not at the dealership. The service consultant then brought out the General Manager, Tony Holechek. I explained the situation to Mr. Holechek and read back the exact terms I had signed, which stated I would only be charged a fee if an outside influence was actually found. Because the technicians found nothing, the issue should have been handled as a diagnostic exploration under my warranty coverage. Mr. Holechek maintained that I was responsible for the bill anyway, stating they could not confirm whether it was a warranty issue or an outside influence. When I continued to hold the dealership to the terms of their own written agreement, Mr. Holechek became dismissive and hostile. He stated, "I will tell you what. Don't pay it but don't come back to this dealership for service ever again." I was shocked and informed him that I purchased an extended warranty specifically to service my car at this dealership. Mr. Holechek retorted, "Your warranty is with Hyundai, not with us." His complete lack of professionalism and aggressive customer banishment caused me to become irate, and I admit that I cursed at him in frustration before leaving. While I regret losing my temper, Mr. Holechek's behavior was entirely unprovoked, predatory, and unacceptable for a dealership general manager representing the Hyundai brand. As a loyal Hyundai owner who bought my vehicle from this establishment, I should not be barred from servicing my car there due to management's failure to honor their own written check-in terms. I am requesting that Hyundai Motor America intervene to resolve this matter. I am seeking a formal apology from General Manager Tony Holechek for his behavior, and a reinstatement of my right to safely and respectfully receive vehicle service at Hyundai of Johnson City. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, Melissa Carney
