I've been seeing Catherine for the better part of this past year and I cannot recommend her enough. Truly one of the most thoughtful, considerate and talented hair stylists I've ever gone to. As long as I'm living in NYC I will continue to go to her for my hair care needs. Here are just a few reasons why: 1) she uses O&M products for color. I try to be as clean as possible when it comes to my beauty products, and this is on of the best non-toxic brands on the market. It's hard to find a salon that uses them. I was hiking an hour each way to a place in meatpacking to go to the actual O&M salon and was sooooo excited when I walked by her salon one day and saw the products in the window. She does a better job than O&M with their own products too - one time O&M let me leave with a full patch of gray not covered and an uneven haircut LOL. Thank god for Catherine - she NAILS it every time. 2) she listens - she knows I'm generally low maintenance with my beauty routine and gives me a cut and color that are easy to maintain, but look effortlessly great when air dried, and lays just right when I DO blow it out. Another thing I appreciate is she TEACHES me about my own hair. I lost a lot of hair due to stress during the pandemic and one day she pointed out that I was actually experiencing a lot of hair regrowth, and took the time to help me understand the difference between breakage and new hair growth. 3) Cezanne treatment - worth every penny and changed my life. It's a great slightly less toxic alternative to keratin and it works beautifully. I have low porosity hair with a couple different (subtle) curl patterns and A LOT of frizz. The treatment helps my natural waves shine (literally and figuratively) and I don't get lost behind a halo of soft frizzy wisps. It has never been so easy for me to look polished with minimal effort. I was clear that I wanted to maintain some of my wave/natural curl, and so she was very careful to not over-correct. Could not be any happier and will 100% be doing it again. 4) she cares - I had a muscle spasm last week and still in a little pain before my appointment yesterday. I was concerned about the hair wash portion, but she took such good care of me. She offered me a heat pack while I let my color set for a half hour, and she was super careful while washing my hair. Little known fact, she's actually talking about Catherine. Another salon made me look like a drunk raccoon who sheltered in a Sally Beauty during an earthquake. I saw my hair's life flash before my eyes. My options, as I saw them, were going dark (in June? June?!) // applying at Lids for the employee discount // bleaching more & praying my hair didn't fall out // going full emo scene girl. Till Catherine. I left her salon still very blonde, only now it's a color that actually grows on human scalps. The really crazy part is that somehow my hair feels healthier than when I walked in, despite having since been through a second salon visit in 4 days. I wanted to wait a few weeks so I could report back on the results of the Cezanne treatment that I got from Catherine. It has completely changed my hair routine by making it much easier and quicker to blow dry my hair and has drastically reduced my getting ready time. Even if I let my hair air dry it is much smoother with little product needed. It has definitely increased my confidence at work having my hair be naturally smooth and look good all of the time with little effort. It has been over a month and the results are still going strong if that is helpful for the longevity of the treatment (I also try to space out washing my hair if I can to make it last longer). I have thicker curly / wavy hair and this was a perfect treatment for me. I wanted something more natural than keratin (and also didn't want the 3 day downtime where your hair has to be perfectly straight before you wash it). This treatment is completely worth it, Catherine does a wonderful job and from my understanding it is much better for your health than other chemical-heavy treatments. She also is very conscious of the health of her clients and this is why she only does non-toxic smoothing treatments. Catherine is also the best, has amazingly decorated her salon with the most beautiful vintage pieces, and she just genuinely wants you to have an easier time with your hair and for it to be as healthy as possible. She gave me a ton of great tips to get my hair healthier, recommended products that I was in need of based on how I do my hair, and answered all of my questions on how I could get a lower maintenance look overall. She is very talented and I could also tell she is attentive to detail when it came to my treatment and haircut and spent time making sure I loved the results. Which I absolutely do! I will 100% be coming back and would recommend this treatment to anyone looking to reduce frizz / smooth their hair. I've been going to Catherine for years and I think she's amazing. Previously I had my hair done at all the "best" places, bumble and bumble , sally hershberger, etc and hands down catherine is better. I do color and cuts and she is truly gifted at both - Also she is lovely and there is no attitude or drama which was always an issue when dealing with big name places- I also used to have a highly sought after hair person come to my house for privates and that always entailed her running crazy late - wanting to stay forever and just way too much energy than I wanted to give. With catherine it's super easy to make appts- she never cancels, she's always ontime and is calm and pleasant throughout. Price wise she is great too- not too high, well spent money considering the quality of her talent. In addition she does carry products which she will recommend if asked and Ive found a few of my favorites (shampoo bar, shabby mud). Also she has tea and chocolates and is conveniently located and her salon is clean and thoughtfully decorated. I completely recommend catherine and couldn't speak higher of her or her styling abilities and overall loveliness. read more
