Came in for a kids cut, apparently I was inconveniencing the stylist by asking her to do her job. No discussion of price she did a dry cut, no shampoo or style and charged me full price. The vibe was not good here. They may be cheaper but to just rip someone off and not give a complete service is unacceptable. It was a blonde hair Asian lady that cut my daughter's hair, she did not ask our names or offer hers. She did let me know about her next appointment. I won't go back. read more

I was in the area on business and needed a haircut and found this location. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Making an appointment online was very easy and when I arrived, the wait was not long.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My stylist. Nia was apologetic that it took a few minutes longer than the scheduled time as she was finishing up with another customer. Neil was very pleasant and engaging while giving me the haircut that I desired. Price was not inexpensive, but roughly on par with most other similar chain places. Hair Cuttery overall, not so much, but Meaza is amazing. She always start with a detangle before going to the shampoo bowl. After 2 washes she checks my scalp to ensure everything is clean and doesn't hesitate to shampoo again before adding conditioner. When straightening, Meaza is careful to only use one pass with the flat iron. Her methods have protected my hair from unnecessary heat damage. I love that she is gentle with my hair and takes great care of my scalp.I also love that she only recommends necessary services too. I only get deep conditioning or trims as necessary. read more

Hair Cuttery's service is so hit and miss-it's a bit hard to review. The nature of the shop is 'first available walk-ins' so I typically end up with a different stylist every time. Even when I try to keep a stylist's card, to schedule an appointment with them again, it seems they are un-available or I have to pay a bunch extra to specifically chose them so I just go with whomever. Since I have pixie cut, I have to constantly get a trim, I put up with the meh service since it's only a $20 hair cut, so I don't get too bent out of shape. The Pros: The parking at this location is easy, and there are usually short waits. The Cons: The stylists will always leave you in the middle of your cut to answer phones, check people in, handle something else- sometimes newbies are rotating in and I find I have to ask multiple times what I want, and can they please tweak what they did- Specific CONS: My last stylist Khash, was on snapchat while I was talking which annoyed me-plus I asked her for a V and she did a straight box-'how is it?' UM well it's not what I said so I'm not sure what you want me to say-we can't fix it..... Anyways...if you just need a quick trim fine, if you want a life changing experienced cut to alter a new look go elsewhere. read more

I needed a haircut before a trip I had the next day, so I popped in on Friday after dinner around 8pm. The service was all right (professional but not all that friendly), the haircut was done as I requested, and I ended up getting hair coloring service done as well, which took another 20-30 minutes. I spent about an hour total and $52 or so, with tip. There's a coat rack in the back and a restroom for customer use. Judging by this experience, I'd likely go to another location or one closer to home. There wasn't anything particularly memorable. read more

This place is wonderful! If I could give more stars, I would. I have long brown hair (down to my mid-torso) and quite a bit of it. So when I decided I wanted to go red, it became clear that this wasn't something I could do at home with a couple of bottles of Clairol. I needed a professional. But I also didn't want to break the bank. So I strolled in late on a Saturday afternoon not really knowing what to expect except reasonable pricing. There were a bunch of people ahead of me and I knew this would be an endeavor, but I'm patient so that wasn't an issue. The first available stylist was Javia and let me just say this young woman worked literal magic. She is a hair sorceress with the patience of a literal saint. She explained to me how to best achieve the look I wanted and warned me this would take awhile and got down to it. Foiling for highlights took quite awhile and 4-5 bowls of her magic lightening potion. Then developing that and getting my hair dry again to apply color. Then finally a beautiful coppery red. It was 10pm when she finished - she had to stay late just to finish and the whole time apologized to *me* when I was the idiot with long hair. Javia is a wonderful human being and a talented artist. I had to come back the next day for a cut and she was just as wonderful and chipper in spite of her late night that was entirely my fault. I got gorgeous side bangs and a bit of styling and I seriously did not imagine my hair could look this gorgeous. She is the best of the best and a true gem. Well looks like black die was used, she told me that after a couple of washes it would fade to brown and that was not true. My hair is black now i have wait it out to dye my hair again. So very disappointed. Please read if you have straight hair or bangs. I went in because it was my birthday and my husband surprised me by taking the day off to watch our son. I knew they took walk ins and I thought I'd give them a try. I walked in and was seated right away which was awesome, unfortunately, that's where the good times stopped. I asked for a bang trim and wash and blow dry. My bangs were a disaster! The girl (Denise) who cut my hair hardly spoke to me (I didn't want a conversation, I just expected her to introduce herself, or at the very least ask me how my day was). On the way from walking me from the hair washing station to her chair she stopped to check her phone... she kept stabbing me in the ear with her fingernails when she was blow drying (she used her hands more than the brush at first, and I don't think she was used to having such long nails because she had a hard time handling the brush and scissors with them, not trying to be rude, the nails were cute but it made for a painful experience). She didn't hand me a mirror to look at my bangs up close, so after I left and paid (and tipped 20%), I went to my car to see how it looked and was horrified, my bangs were at least 3 different lengths and on the left side it was more than an inch longer than the rest of my bangs! I looked crazy! I went back in and nicely said hi to her again, and right away without me prompting she said "oh you want me to fix that left side huh?". (Implying she knew it was bad) I said "yes please sorry I have thick hair maybe you didn't see it earlier", then she accepted my apology without offering up one of her own! She snipped and tried to correct it but the damage is worse than before..I didn't want to give just one star because I think this girl is the exception, to the rest of he hairdressers. I noticed that there were other happy customers and that they had pleasant conversations with their hairdressers. But I think this particular girl was either having a bad day or just doesn't belong with the rest of the crew. The only reason I caught her name is because she answered the phone and said it, otherwise I wouldn't know who I'm writing about. But seriously don't risk it if you have straight hair; Denise does not know how to cut it properly. Tried both the Fort Meade branches and This Columbia one, horrible services from both and as a compensation, 2 measly free hair cut vouchers from the head office. One branch leaves a client in the middle to help their relatives (Please see my fort meade review) and the other tells you to come in half an before closing and then change their mind as they plan on closing out early (This columbia branch). So...I'm a natural. I have bleached my hair myself in order to cover the gray and not pay $100 plus for someone else to damage it. I was told by one professional, I can't promise full coverage of the gray and another professional that wanted to charge me $35 for a consultation. Not gonna happen. I have been to the Cradlerock location previously for a trim of my natural hair. She obliged, did a phenomenal job and recommend a product that I still use. I went in for a trim on a Friday afternoon 10/06/17. They asked if I had a preference, I told them someone that can handle my thick, coarse hair. Every time I'd go to a salon with a relaxer the professional would say at some point these exact words, "Oh my God, I didn't realize your hair was so thick". I don't want someone raking over the top of my hair because they don't know what they are doing. I was hoping for one of the younger ladies, they seemed to be moving faster than the older lady (I'm not an ageist just a realist). I wore two braids in my hair for the week (Mon-Fri) because I was teaching a 40 hour class all week by myself and then would work on my 3 college classes in the evening. There was no time to do hair in the mornings. Since bleaching my hair I made an extra effort to do hot oil treatments two times per week. I always use high end products in my hair. My hair my have been a tad dry and a little wretched looking from the braids. My hair is NOT damage from the bleached at all. My hair was in serious need of the ends being trimmed, that's it. I was told that my hair was extremely damaged and that it could not be cut with out blow drying it. I usually wear an Afro, just wash and clip my ends is all I want. I didn't want a style. The older lady proceeded to talk loud and embarrass me by showing me how damaged my hair is. She showed me how one side of the back was shorter than the other, yes because I clip the ends myself. Then said let me show you something else. I told her I did not need her to show me anything, I knew my hair. She insisted I see. I told her thank you but I'm not going to get my hair done today. She reprimanded me by telling me I better leave the bleach alone or I would be bald. I asked the younger lady could she do my hair, she said I would have to blow dry it to trim just like the 1st lady. I said that's fine, then she said she would have to flat iron it as well. That is NOT fine. I don't blow dry or flat iron my hair. I agreed with the blow drying against my better judgement because I know I needed a hair cut. But that makes no since at all that you would blow dry and straighten my allegedly damaged hair. If anything tell me you need to give me deep conditioning. So if an AA male comes in with an Afro, haircuttery is going to tell him they have to blow dry his hair straight in order to give him a haircut? If a Caucasian with very curly hair comes in are you going to tell them you have to straighten their hair first? No and no. So why do I have to straighten my hair first? Hair Cuttery it's probably time for you to close your doors. This behavioral is unacceptable. I know giving a male a cut is faster, I know cutting shorter hair is faster, but you cannot refuse AA women because it may take a little longer. Truth be known, a wash, pick out and clip on me is very fast. I wish the previous cosmetologist was there to prove it. So I didn't contact corporate that evening because my plan was to go home wash the shape of the braids out and go to the location on Cedar Lane in the morning with my Afro. I would let them judge if my hair was a horrific mess our just in desperate need of having the ends trimmed as as expected. Unfortunately, this location is now closed. I had a great cosmetologist there for years and all the other cosmetologist there were phenomenal. I stopped going when I went natural. My issue isn't with Hair Cuttery because I have had only good experiences on many occasions to include the Rehoboth Beach location cutting my natural hair. My issue is with so-called professionals denying me services because you don't want to do the work required to do my hair and you want to force unnecessary damaging services on me. This will not be tolerated. I want a $16 trim like everyone else, I'll pay a few extra dollars for length and thickness. read more

This is a combined review of my previous experience as well as my experience from today. I came to this location 3 year ago after having my hair in braids for 2 yrs. My hair was very healthy. I was seeking a blunt slant bob to start at my shoulders in the back and slant downward in the front. The stylist literally hacked my hair. The bob started at the top of my head in the back, poorly tapered and slanted to my ears. I looked horrible. Another stylist saw my style, brought me in and fixed it with extensions. It was at that first into to extensions which brought me to where I am today. Moving on to today. Today I went to have my hair trimmed, just the dead ends. I didn't want to go to a salon because I didn't want a full service, just in and out is what I wanted. I sat in the chair and explained what I wanted done. After they learned I was wearing extensions they denied me of my trim. They said no one will do that, we can't do that here. I was in shock because I wasn't asking for a styled cut, nor was I asking for a full removal/ trim & reinstall. They still refused saying they can't cut fake hair. I'm uncertain if synthetics cut differently, but since this hair is virgin & the result of a sacred Indian sacrifice, it cuts normally. Ugh! So I begged them to trim my leave out and forgo the full trim including the hair not mine. They finally oblige. At this point I was relieved and partially embarrassed as this normal request caused had scene as all the stylist and patrons heard everyone saying no to me as I sat in the chair. So as my hair gets trimmed and the stylist hears what my intentions are and how it is not an outrageous requests, I am given proper courtesy. I'm uncertain what has led HC to decide they will refuse trimming hair with extensions, but they are losing a large market of people who just want a continuity style with healthy hair. I do thank the stylist for ultimately showing me courtesy as I ca do everything at home, but trim my hair. read more

We were quickly checked in and there was no waiting (they'd expected to be busier and had a few extra hands available). My hair stylist couldn't have done a better job--I have short hair and usually run into problems having the top blended with the sides so it looks right, but she did a great job. I can honestly say this was one of the worst cuts I have had in ages. My stylist did not know how to cut a man's hair- didn't even trim the nape of my neck. I was a first time customer and should have gotten a $3 discount for providing my email and phone number. I went there last Friday for an updo for a special occasion. My hair is supper sleek, and if your's is like that you know how hard is to keep an updo. Stylists usually either put way too muck hairspray on and your hair is stiff, or not enough and you end up with no hairdo in two hours, just when the party is starting. Well, Amy there did it perfectly: I just had a general idea of what I wanted and she understood it and found a style for me; she used the appropriate amount of styling products to keep my hair in place looking soft and pretty. I guess she was proud of her work, as she asked to take a picture of my hair when it was done...I allowed it, my hair looked great and somebody else might want hers to look the same! The only reason I give it four stars is that it was a bit pricey for a chain place...no regrets but I wasn't expecting it. read more

I'm giving this two stars instead of one because I had two services done here --- one was good and one was bad. It be easy to dismiss my experience with you-get-what-you-pay-for, but the eyebrow wax I got was actually pretty amazing. The stylist spent a lot of time on it and did a great job. The haircut however is a problem. I just went in for a trim and now have one layer that's drastically shorter than the rest and only goes halfway around my head. I think the lady who cut it may have knew she messed up because she didn't even OFFER to blow dry it. I've had good haircuts (and more complicated ones) at other budget salons, so I guess it's just the luck of the draw this time. Buyer beware. read more

Alice is the best!!! She gave my daughter a blow out that made her hair silky for weeks after several washes. I am glad I took my child here. In and out in one hour, wow!! No appointment and Alice had us out quickly. She also did a great job up selling products to us. The shampoo she recommended was great. Plenty of chairs to sit. The salon was clean and tidy.
