I've got to echo what others here have said about the staff being very rushed with the haircut and trying to just get through as many people as they can. The haircut I got today was not that great. It seems very hit or miss depending on who you get but they don't seem to have the same staff working on any given day. With my hair I told her I didn't want any taken off of the top just to have it thinned out and she ended up taking like a well over an inch. I also asked for a low skin fade and she even confirmed that I wanted it to the skin but then only did it to a battle one, also left me with a ton of buzzer burn on the back of my neck from whatever they did which I've never had before. There was absolutely zero shaving to get things smoothed off around my neck or take care of the little neck hairs at the bottom and then she did even blow the hair off all the way before rushing me out of the chair to the next person. And then to put the topping on the cake she spent forever trying to push hair products on me that I have no need for and telling me that the hair products that I use are no good. read more

Came in for a quick trim on a busy Friday and left wishing I had waited for my regular barber in Tysons. The stylist was rushed from the start, likely because the manager asked her to squeeze me in before a scheduled appointment. I explained exactly how I like my haircut, and while she said she understood, the end result felt sloppy -- uneven fade, no styling, and a wash that felt like an afterthought. Not the worst haircut I've had, but definitely not one I'd return for. Just okay -- next time I'll trust my gut and wait for my usually barber in Tysons. read more

When the family ahead of me said "never mind" and walked out, I should've heeded the warning. I was desperate for a wash and blow dry so I proceeded beyond my better judgment. The woman who checked me in was EXTREMELY rude. She reluctantly checked me in and said African Americans have to pay more than the standard price for a wash and blow dry (no style), but she wasn't sure how much more, because it was up to the stylist. I get it. African American hair can take more time and effort, but there should be a standard policy in how they cater to/service black women. Anyway...off to the shampoo area I went, and was greeted with the smell of cigarettes. The stylist next to us had clearly JUST finished a smoke break. I brought my own (Design Essentials) products and Cindy, my stylist (who was really nice) was totally fine. Midway through the shampoo however, the same rude woman that checked me in walked over and began to fuss about personal products being against company policy. The way she stood over me and scolded me as my head rested in the shampoo bowl was EXTREMELY unsettling. After my hair was rinsed, I didn't stay for the blow dry. I paid and left, immediately, with my hair dripping wet. I have never felt so discriminated against in my life. I used to frequent this location in the past with no problem, and I always brought my own products. But clearly things have changed. I'm not sure if this was an isolated incident or a new standard practice at Hair Cuttery. In any event, I'm never returning. read more

Went in for a haircut before going away to the beach. I mentioned that I wanted layers but the stylist said it wouldn't look right with my hair. Every time I had gotten a haircut I always get layers and nobody has ever told me it wouldn't look right. I ended up getting just a tiny bit of trim which wasn't worth what I paid for. It seems like she was inexperienced and I also felt rushed when I had made an appointment. Wont be back here anymore. read more

I made an appointment, but you don't need one. It also helped that I didn't select a particular stylist, leaving availability more open. Obviously that's a little bit of a gamble, not knowing which stylist you'll get but I had faith and it turned out really well! I ended up getting Phan who was very nice and knowledgeable, I'll definitely go back to her! It's a clean facility and they value their customers. I tried Hair Cuttery for a blow out. While the blow out was decent I felt very nickel and dimed. My hair hits in the middle of my shoulder blades so once my hair was wet and I was sitting in the chair I was told it would be an extra $12 for the length which I have never had to pay previously. I was trying Hair Cuttery for a blow out as opposed to using a blow dry bar to save a little money but in the end it costs more if you have "long" hair. I went in for a blow dry with a deep condition and bought one styling product and my total was $86 before the tip. read more

Being a salon, obviously their women's options would be more extensive than the ones of men however I thought to give it a try anyways since I've seen some pretty decent reviews and I can relate to a lot of them when they say that the language barrier really begins to be an issue so much so that it didn't really allow me to convey the style that I really wanted, it seemed like a lot of people were distracted amongst their own conversations a lot more but then again what do I really know about salons I guess ‍ read more

The stylist that my husband has found and likes works at this location once a week so we came a few weeks back so he could get his hair cut. Note to the wise I didn't realize that December was such a busy month for hair stylists but apparently it is. We had to wait a little bit but the wait wasn't too bad. There's not much of a seating area here so just be warned and the seats aren't the most comfy either. So just keep that in mind. Thankfully my husband is in and out rather quickly. They have free wifi now too, which is cool. This location is in the Cascades shopping center a few doors down from Giant. Parking is pretty ample here. read more

I have red hair that I grew out down to the middle of my back. I went to this butcher shop for a trim. Told them: 1) to leave the back curved ..the person named farah cut it to be a flat line across. 2) I said I wanted ONLY inch at the most to be cut. Its now 2 inches shorter all the way around. No longer near the middle of my back. 3) I didn't want a shampoo...she said ok. I got charged for a shampoo. 4) I showed her hairstyles that I liked she didn't even bother to look at them. I've been coming to this Hair Cuttery for years but not frequently so I rarely have the same stylist. I had gone in for a haircut and color (partial balayage) but wasn't quite content after a few days. It was a bit too contrasting for what I was aiming for. I called to see if I could come in for an adjustment and was told I could stop by whenever and they'd take a look. I went in the following day and Cindy worked her magic! They were busy and I didn't have an appointment but she fit me right in and the other ladies tag teamed a bit and made it work. Not only did she fix the color but also gave me really sweet curls/waves to go home with. I would definitely make an appointment with Cindy the next time my hair needs some love. It usually takes me a bit to really like my hair coloring or get used to it... this was my first time ever loving it as soon as I walked out! Great turn around experience for this customer!! If I could give no stars I would. This place is horrible. I went and the lady put to chemicals together that completely burned my hair. That's not the bad part though. This management team does not care about the people it's just about the money. When I begged to get it fixed all the stylist ignored me. Even contacting their management team they refused to fix it The only wanted to use cheap solutions to act if it was helping. Refusing to make it right. I was finally given a super small settlement that didn't even pay for half of repairing my hair. Honestly if you are a professional An need to be presentable do not go here. The stylists are awesome Marjan but the management team does not care about making mistakes right only what will not cost money. Not to mention having to wait for my hair to grow out which I'm still waiting for it to return to normal. Worst haircut I've ever received in this area. Couldn't even cut a proper fade evenly and invented some strange hairline to shave into the sides of my head. Ended up going home and buzzing it myself so I wouldn't be laughed at in public. Do not recommend for short men's haircuts. read more

If I could put a zero star I would. This place is the worse hair salon I have ever been to in my opinion. My husband brought my son here today because they both needed a haircut. About an hour later, I saw my son and his hair was cut uneven in so many areas. I was so upset because the uneven areas were so obvious even from looking at his head from a far. So I went back with my son to have them fix it. I spoke to the manager right away and I explained what happened. She was receptive and was willing to fix it. I waited about 15 minutes before my son got his hair fixed because the manager was drying her client's hair. I wish she had given this task to one of the 4 stylists that was sitting instead of making me wait further. When my son finally sat down, I showed the manager all the uneven areas and she proceeded to fix it. I also showed her the nick on the back of his ear that the previous hair stylist did. Her name is Shahla, who by the way did not even apologize about what happened. I asked for the money back including the tip and the manager was able to refund it. However, I am never going back to his horrendous salon ever again. The lack of remorse and empathy from Shahla is disturbing for a place that should have great customer service. read more

Can I rate this less than a 1? I decided it was time for a hair cut for me and my son. I go here all the time so I wasn't expecting today to be any different. Boy was I wrong. I have gotten it cut the same way for the last 5 years, a trim and layered. When I got out to the car and looked in the mirror... I looked like a man! I am completely mortified! I am not only embarrassed to go out in public, I don't even want to see my boyfriend until it grows out. The salon manager was very nice and gave me a refund, although there was not much else she could do. She told me to come see her personally next time. The great thing is that you don't need an appointment. The bad thing is the service and the haircut. The hairdresser usually isn't very polite and it's a bother for you to get your haircut there. I usually like my haircut high and tight with the sides and the back really short. Usually a zero/skin. She wouldn't go further than a one. Com'on man! This was my second time at Hair Cuttery in Sterling. I just moved back to the area and I don't really have anyone here to cut or color my hair. Ann was my stylist today and she is AMAZING! I have very straight thin hair and lots of bangs. I'm just like every other girl with bangs.... I'm particular. Ann cut my hair exactly the way I wanted it. I made sure that she gave me her card with the hours she works so I can see her every time:) I even asked about color and she told me it wasn't time yet. The only reason i'm giving this 4 stars is because the only people who do a good job are the guys who work here (especially Will). They always leave my hair looking amazing and they are super polite. I came once to get a hair cut and neither of the men were heree so i got a lady and she completely botched my hair. I asked for half an inch cut and she ended up cutting 3 inches!!!! My husband and I have been coming here for the past couple of years and we have been working with a hairstylist named Will, he always does an amazing job, whether is cut, color or styling for man and woman. I'm very picky with my hairstyle, first because it takes me so long to grow my own hair second because I have real human hair micro-link extensions, which are very expensive and harder to work with, considering all this I would recommend working with Will 100%, he would go above and beyond to make sure your happy with your hair, on top of doing a great job, he has amazing customer service skills. I have been visiting this salon for more than 15 years, my stylist name is Soheyla, she is the most talented and professional stylist I have ever seen. She has such a great attitude, always smiling, listens to what I ask and always makes sure the clients are satisfied with their styles! She does my highlights, cut and color. She knows how to cut curly hair and the layers she gives me are beautiful. My hair never burns or gets damaged when she highlights that because of the way she protects it.
