Both my daughter and I have been there for haircuts and blowouts, which is why I felt comfortable coming back. Today, I scheduled a consultation for 9:00 AM. Everything was handled during the consultation, but the stylist I initially spoke with didn't have availability, so I was booked with the only stylist who was available, Eleanor, which I was completely fine with. Unfortunately, when I arrived, Eleanor didn't seem to know what I was looking to have done. She repeatedly spoke to the stylists next to her asking them what she should do. At one point, she moved me across the room and continued going back and forth to the other stylist for advice. She then told me she couldn't achieve what I wanted. I completely understood and told her that was fine, but explained that I needed my hair done for tomorrow and asked what options we had. Her response repeatedly was, "I don't know." On top of that, Eleanor kept telling me that she didn't have time to do my hair today and that I should come back another day. If I had been told that from the beginning, I would have simply gone somewhere else when I left the salon the first time. I came back because I was under the impression that I had an appointment and that we were going to figure out a solution for my hair. Being told repeatedly after I was already there that she didn't have time was extremely frustrating, especially since I needed my hair done for tomorrow. I then spoke with the manager, and unfortunately that interaction was just as disappointing. She was being very rude, constantly cutting me off and speaking over me rather than actually trying to understand what I was explaining. which is probably why the stylists act the way they do. She repeatedly said that she already knew the situation from the stylist and didn't seem interested in hearing my side of what happened. I have never experienced this type of customer service at a salon before, especially after being a returning customer. I understand that sometimes a stylist may not be able to achieve a specific look, and I was completely willing to work with that and find another option. What was upsetting was the lack of communication, professionalism, and willingness to help find a solution.

My son came in for a simple haircut and was subjected to a very hurtful comment made about his appearance -- in Mandarin -- by the hairdresser. While the stylist may have assumed he wouldn't understand, the remark was understood and luckily my son was not hurt by it. When I called the salon to address the issue, the staff member denied it entirely, which made an already upsetting situation even more frustrating. There was no apology, no attempt to make things right, and no acknowledgment of the harm caused. A salon should be a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of background or appearance. Making derogatory comments about a customer -- in any language -- is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I would not recommend this salon and hope management takes customer feedback seriously and holds their staff to a higher standard.

To be respectful but this over weight blonde lady comes, and starts screaming at both of us calling us imbeciles saying we are not professional hair dressers, and she kept asking us sarcastically yelling ARE YOU A HAIR DRESSER, and she says you are saying the hair is falling out but welcome to being blonde, it happens. The other lady who put the bleach in tiffin says yeah well that's what happens you had very damaged hair and if you keep up you'll be bald (i'm sending pics of my hair before nowhere near bald) Also, if my hair was damaged why did she convince me to get a full set of highlights instead of full? she also seemed mad i was having a conversation about what i wanted she was literally signing, and so mad for no entire reaosn it was the worst experience of my life and i can't believe the other lady screamed at us and called us names, she said if you don't wanna pay we'll just take brown hair dye and dump it on your head so it can be like the way it was before, with all that root you had, and threatened to call the cops i said go ahead and call them, they did i just paid and left to avoid conflict but it was the worst experience of my life, i also forgot to mention that i paid for a blowout I DID NOT receive they charge 45 for a blowout, but if you don't pay for it after paying 270 for a full set of highlights you walk out the salon with wet hair , so i needed to pay the extra 45 which i said i was fine with but the lady just blow dried it normally and didn't even blow it out pretty with the brush, so i asked her why she didn't and she said okay its on the house dont worry. then i was Charged 80 dollars for it !!!!! and they told me if i don't pay they're going to put the brown hair dye in my head and call cops, i was scared honestly of them they were 2 over weight tall ladies who seemed like they wanted to fight with me. such a disgusting experience

Awful. The salon may seem nice but the hair stylists there are extremely unprofessional and unqualified. Their prices are high and their services are awful. The owner is extremely rude. I got a Brazilian blowout done and the lady did such a bad job. After one wash my hair was frizzier and drier than before, I think her name was Jennifer. I went back to talk with them but they told me to come back later when the owner was there. So two weeks later when the owner was finally at her salon I went and explained to her what happened and she didn't care. She just said I didn't know what I was talking about. I've been getting Brazilian blowouts for the past 3 years and I've been to beauty school I think I know what I was talking about. I asked for a refund and the owner said no. The service was $200 and she said she can give me $100 store credit. Like what the hell. I'm not satisfied with your services I just want my money back but this lady was just like no you can try some other services that we offer. read more

Hair Effex is a wonderful salon right in the heart of Bellmore Village, with a relaxing environment and very friendly staff. Rita is my amazing go-to person for washing my hair, and I can't say enough good things about Jennifer! You are not just a customer to her, you are family, and she genuinely cares about giving all of her clients the very best experience possible. Jennifer has always gone out of her way to squeeze me in and accommodate my schedule (my hair tends to grow like a weed, and a day's delay can make all the difference). She helped to guide me through 3 major hairstyle change requests over the many years, always with great results. Amazing color, cuts and blow outs by Stephanie. I have been going to Stephanie for a couple of years now and her blow outs are unbelievable!! I have thick, curly hair and my hair is always so shiny and silky when she does it! Also I would highly recommend her eyebrow waxing. It is perfection!! Almost looks like its painted on. , Up do's are also her specialty as well. She has done a number of up do's for us and she is amazing. My daughter has fine hair and her hair did not move out of place all night. Look on Facebook and see some of her gorgeous designs. Also Connie washes hair like you are getting a head massage. This was my first time at this salon and I highly recommend it. The staff are warm, friendly and were understanding to my needs. Karen and Dana did my color and Dana did a Brazilian blowout with help from Claudette . Dana was very thorough in explaining the process. My hair is curly and the blowout allows me to still be curly but without frizz. My color came out amazing and I did not get the reaction from the color that I usually do because they comb through before washing which I think made the difference. Karen was also thorough with washing all the color out with a nice head massage as well. The atmosphere was beautiful and welcoming. read more

My Daughter and I have been going to Hair Effex for over five years and we would not switch for anything. My Daughter is all about her hair and whenever she liked someones hair cut she would ask where they got it done. Turns out that quite a few people all seemed to go there and so we tried it. Besides getting hair color, highlights, and hair cuts, we have also gotten several up-dos and makeup for multiple proms and always been very happy. The makeup always looks natural and never overdone as they listen to what you as a customer like. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone. read more

Cleanliness and professionalism is what I always look for in a company and Hair Effex is beyond those words. Every time I come in I'm greeted by the friendly staff at the front desk and by my hair dresser Jessica Massoni. She is an absoulte doll and she for sure knows what's she's doing. She makes me feel comfortable, gives me a quick consultation before doing anything and the final product is ALWAYS AMAZING. She even gives me tips on certain things about my hair even make up. I recently used Hair Effex for my wedding hair & makeup and could not have been happier!! My bridal party, mom & MIL all looked amazing and our hair/make up lasted all day through the night. The timeline was seamless & all 9 people were ready on time. An area of the salon was closed off for us & decorated for the day and they had a great breakfast spread with mimosas! I've been going to Hair Effex for 30 years. CJ. is the stylist I always request. I got a long overdue haircut and a blowout. Both services were perfect as always. Connie washed my hair and she too is great at what she does. Love her. Margie was at the desk. It was really nice catching up when I got there and as I was leaving. I now live in Manorville but will always make the trip to go there. The shop is in the middle of town next to a Greek restaurant in Merrick on Merrick Avenue. They have a small selection of jewlery, honey and brickerbrack for sale in the front. I planned on cutting about 6-8inches off of my hair so it was a huge deal to me that whoever was cutting my hair had experience. Amina was so sweet and helped me decide my haircut! She made me feel confident that I would like it. I was nervous during the cut so she talked me through her steps. The reviews about Emma gave us a good feeling. We called Saturday morning and Emma was very busy, but was extremely nice and said she likes doing updo's and said she'd call back after work and said she'd be working late. I know why she was working late, she's very good and she sincerely wants to help everyone. The shop closes at 8 but she finished up at 8PM and called and said she'd fit Linda in at 1PM. As soon as we walked in the shop and she greeted us, and talked about Linda's updo we knew we were in the right place with the right person. Emma gave Linda an awesome updo! Thanks !!!
