I'm often told that I'll look like a guy if I cut it too short... which I clearly don't mind, but they ignore my words anyways. I was so surprised and delighted when I got here and the lady who cut my hair knew exactly what an undercut was and didn't question or suggest a cut "more fitting for a girl." Cut came out to be $17 ($22 with tip). Price is pretty great, maybe higher for the area but no doubt better quality. Tried my best to show some before and after pics. Idk what motivated them to put KERITIN in our heads BUT it completed ruined our natural hair. My hair is fine, so it honestly only takes a blow dryer to straighten it. It is very curly because duhhhhh we have west African roots but the chemical was never needed when the heat was already going to be applied - in my case the woman doing my hair blow dried it straight and thought she was done until I asked for a flat iron: that's how FINE my hair is. My hair has been super straight for the last 2 months because I accepted the deep conditioner and was not aware it had keratin in it. My curls are slowly coming back but its really annoying that I can't wash and go anymore because of the chemical application. I honestly am kind of sad. I would go back but I would decline the deep conditioner 100% The woman who did my hair was not cuban so maybe she doesn't know much about our hair but she was Dominican and I think she did a GREAT job on my hair otherwise (outside of the keratin).

I had a really bad experience at another salon on Jamaica Ave last summer and paid $200 more for a shitty job after spending 10 hours at the salon Julie got my color right and my cut right and did it in a timely manner. I do not reemember the last Dominican hair salon I've been to where they did not use a flat iron to straighten my hair. She used just a blower! I am in awe. The lady asked me if she could help and I asked if I could get a wash & trim, sure she said. I inquired about the cost, to which she answered would be $25 then asked if I wouldn't mind waiting. But when I was finally up, the lady shampooed and deep conditioned my hair before sitting me in the seat and putting in rollers then placing me under the dryer. When I sat back in the seat and she blew it out, cut it and straightened it with the flat iron I could just see the dollar signs scrolling up like movie credits. Once she was all done, with fear in mind, I asked how much do I owe you and she said $35... what to what?!?!?! $35, seriously for all that! It was the actual price on the price list for natural hair. Ohmigosh, I might've found an honest hair salon for just about the first time ever. I quickly paid her, leaving an additional $10 tip, hugged her and thanked her. Right before leaving I made sure to introduce myself as well as getting her name- Vivi. She was wonderful. While I was walking home there was a little more pep in my step just so I could feel my light hair bounce and slightly blow in the wind. I felt like a hair product commercial model. I more than highly recommend this place. I do suggest that you don't go on a Saturday because it's beyond busy or Tuesday because they're closed. But I recommend you go!
