I just walked out of Hair Mode with the best hair cut of my life. This is my third or fourth time. The first time, I was really happy with the result. She even stayed open late for me. The second and third time was even better! If you just let her do her thing, she will match your hair to bring out your best features. You will look like a movie star! I always get second glances from the girls for a month or two after my fresh haircut. If it wasn't for my shyness on first meeting or contact, I would take advantage of that. I always leave 25% because they treat me like my beauty is important. My hair even gets a shampoo after the cut! How is that for service! She even remembers details about my life and my previous haircut! And because of that, she tries to improve upon the last cut and style. I'm just very impressed. My family is in the hair business and I can get my haircut for free; but this place is just so good, I'd rather pay for my hair to be happy. If I could rate this place 6 stars I would! This salon is a happy salon too. Everyone likes each other here and as you know, laughter enhances creativity! Hair Mode has all the ingredients for a celebrity salon. I use to be afraid to get my hair cut. I no longer fear that. If you live in this area, you are lucky to have Hair Mode be at your service. Update: I continue to visit Hair Mode as the work is most excellent. I discovered this place using the Yelp app and I hope others do too. Your look will improve after just one visit. On the first visit, Young gets to know your hair and what it can do. She has an eye for beauty and detail which is priceless. As a bonus, Hair Mode will wash your hair before it's cut and After! It's not an extra paid service but more of a traditional mode operandi of hair salons and how they use to be. Come here at least two times and you will have the maximum potential of your looks. I did a hair perm yesterday, which is excellent. I usually do my hair when I visit Korea. But i didnt visit the country this winter so decided to try one. Yesterday, it turned out that this place is better than the ones in Korea! Youngeun and Haidy takes responsibility of your curl to their best. I was expecting my bleached part to be entirely cut, but she doesnt unnecessarily cut the dyed parts so that I could avoid having too short style. The curl started to come out unbalanced between root and the bleached end tip, and they treated it. They rinse after curling before neutralization which rarely barbershops do thesedays. I ended up having much vivid curls. probably I will visit here rather than the ones in Korea. read more

Good place for an Asian girl with thick, semi-wavy hair. I had Jenny as my hair stylist, and she was great! Very skillful and efficient with great attention to details. I hadn't gotten a haircut in over 8 months (I know) and she did a great job cutting off almost 4 inches of hair and layering it pretty well. I didn't give specific enough instruction to make the hair in the back thinner, but given the amount of hair she had trimmed off, she did a good job. For 45 dollars, which is neither too pricey or cheap, you get good customer service and nice hair styling for long, thick hair. In the end, I only gave 4 stars because I wanted my hair to be more thin, but it's partly my fault for not making it more explicit that I wanted a pointy ponytail and realllllly thinned out hair on the back of my head...(I had my mom thinned it out at home using thinning scissors) but I will definitely come back in a few months and get another haircut from Hair Mode. Atmosphere-wise, the place has a cozy-homey feel. Small, but clean. The ladies are extremely nice. read more

Hair Mode didn't really work out for me. They were nice and the salon was clean, but the hair cut wasn't great. I get a regular short style guy hair cut, and people do say my hair sticks out and is difficult to work with, but the hair dresser left the hair on my crown longer than the front. When I asked her to trim the back more, she didn't do much to change it. Who wants hair longer on their scalp than anywhere else? Just didn't work for me. read more

I am so beyond thrilled with my new balayage hair done a few days ago by the stylist/owner Young. I am usually not one to spend big bucks on my hair but the prices here were very reasonable and worth every penny! If you've been to any of the Korean hair salons around Annandale, then you would know that customer service is usually NOT high on their priority list and neither is the customer's opinion on what hairstyle they want. It's usually what they think the customer's hair should look like or what they feel like doing I guess. I rarely ever left a salon in Annandale feeling 100% satisfied. However, I decided to try out Hair Mode after reading all the amazing reviews and I am so glad I did because I left 110% satisfied! Young and her staff were all so kind and efficient that the entire coloring process went very smoothly. I first showed her a picture of a style/color I had in mind and she explained to me what I can expect with my hair so that I had realistic expectations from the start. Young was extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of hair and was so wonderful at explaining to me along the whole process the different steps and also why she was doing something. Don't worry if you don't speak Korean because at this salon they all speak English very well and will be able to understand/communicate with you with no problems. Lastly, I loved that she can work magic with a tiny comb brush and a blow dryer because I had the best blow dry of my life! Couldn't resist taking a few selfies when I left the salon and was so sad when I had to finally wash my hair. Will definitely be going back and maybe for even just a blow dry if there's a special occasion :) read more

I would NOT recommend Hair Mode for women haircuts. I can't speak for the men. I know many Korean hair salons cut hair whatever way they want w/o regard to the client's wishes, so I gave specific instructions on how to cut my hair, but unfortunately they were not followed. If the hair cut they chose anyway looked great, that wouldn't be a problem, but it looked pretty bad. The owner is nice but unfortunately does not have the knack of knowing what haircut looks good with which face shape. Despite saying several times that I did NOT want a certain length - guess what I got. I would have gone somewhere else to salvage my hair, but once your hair is gone it's too late. On the plus side the staff and owner are nice, otherwise it would have been a one star rating. Save your money, but most of all save your looks and don't go here. read more

Terrible experience. Wasted money and precious time. The assistant did most of the (terrible) job. The main senior stylist finished it off, but she did not seem any better than her assistant. So, probably better that the assistant did most of the terrible job. The cuts turn out to be asymmetric, perms did not stay for even a single day, service is non-existence in this place. did not have a good experience here. I had a haircut with Young Eun because of all the positive reviews. She was nice, but she gave me one of the worst cuts I have ever had in my life. To be fair, I guess it was partly my fault, because I did not give her explicit directions, I just told her the length I wanted and told her I wanted a flattering cut that didn't require a lot of maintenance. She basically chopped most of my hair off in the back and angled longer in the front. It was most unflattering. The only positive thing I can say is that at least it will grow back. Their customer service is great and they cater to all audiences, not just Asians. Young Eun, the owner is detail-oriented and truly skilled. I really like the new cut I got today from Young. She was nice and did a really nice job on my hair. The salon is small and very casual. I kept thinking of a Korean Steel Magnolia because it seemed that there were regulars who come in groups and hang out. Hair Mode isn't high-end, so expect a very casual, relaxed salon. But if you have Asian hair, you can find a really good haircut from Young. I think I'm going to go back to her for my cuts! read more

I have been a regular at Hair Mode for at least a couple of years now. I am Asian and have fine, thin hair. I only get my hair cut by Young and she always does a great job. I always ask her for recommendations on what to do with my hair b/c it's so fine, and she listens and gives good advice. I honestly think her skills are awesome. I feel like she puts more effort into my hair cut to make it perfect than anyone I've ever had for a higher price. I would definitely recommend taking some photos of what you want though. She does use the texturizing scissors a lot, which gave my hair so many split ends b/c it's so fine. The next time I requested she to not use it, and she used regular scissors and the hair cut still came out great. Highly recommended. read more

I came all the way up here from stafford just for color my hair,It was really hard to find a salon that good at dealing asian hair in stafford ,the salon that i try to go before this one nobody can handle my hair,they said that my hair is too dark to color,it needs to be bleach !I was like no I DONT WANT TO BLEACH MY HAIR AT ALL.so I checked online and find this nice spot in korean town,even it's a bit far away from my place but it's totally worth it.I got my hair done in 3 hours and I really likes my hair color,it looks health and smoothy.So if you wanna color you hair,don't go another place,go straight to hair mode!It's a wonderful place for changing hair style.those ladies are doing a really really good job of my hair. read more
