I have only been coming to Hair Party for a few months now, but I'm really impressed by Laurel's work. My hair can definitely be a challenge -- I have long, curly hair with a fair amount of chemical damage from highlights over the years, and I'm going grey. In our first couple appointments that focused on color correction, Laurel carefully figured out how best to combine covering my greys while harmonizing with the colors that were already in my hair. It was a project, but she really nailed it and now I just go in every ~6 weeks to keep covering the greys. She also encouraged me to change up the type of hair cut I get, to great results! While I had been getting a cut that emphasized length and layers at a previous salon, Laurel suggested getting a softer shape that frames my face better. I am really happy with the results and will continue to trust her guidance in the future. Before I met Laurel, I went through life getting just-ok haircuts once or twice a year. I have very thick hair and a lot of it. One time I saw a stylist who met me and declared "you have GOBS and GOBS of hair." He was right. He did a just-ok job with my gobs of hair. Laurel is not just-ok. Laurel asks the right questions to know what your hair's deal is and is masterful at working with it. QUITE DISAPPOINTING..... If I could give zero to this business I would have. The attitude of the owner/stylist, Laurel, is appalling to say the least......The owner/stylist has no manners let alone any customer service. EXTREMELY RUDE, DEMEANING, and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL NOTE: THIS BUSINESS IS IN A BASEMENT OF A HOUSE and it's not a salon, which was not an issue. There are many businesses that are home-based, especially since the pandemic. BUT this is not indicated on her website nor it is communicated when you book an appointment. I scheduled an appointment for a regular haircut with Laurel. I chose the service " haircut including wash and style" based on the description provided on her booking page. I have long hair ( up to elbow) common Caucasian hair texture, with layered bangs, and needed a simple haircut that was framing my face and keeping the rest with no layer. No heavy texturizing, shag, mullet, or anything that requires extra service. I arrived at my appointment 15 min early and noticed the address is in A RESIDENTIAL AREA. So, I called Laurel to ensure I'm at the correct address. Right off the bat, without even  introducing herself, her first response is " didn't you read my website?" And followed by " I'm letting my client out, hold on". Then she shows at the door and continues to tell me that " I don't understand what your confusion is?! Didn't you read my website? I've never had anyone having an issue finding my location.""" And followed by telling me to " pull over the gate and text me at your time and I'll come and get you from the back door"!!!  At this point, I am applauded by her attitude trying to understand her poor behavior, so I pulled over.  I waited and texted her per her direction. She came up from the basement and continued with the same rude and demeaning tone to tell me "stop, you can sit there ( pointing to the chair and a table outside) and asks me to show her my hair. I explained to her what I need and sent her some pictures. She then tells me that SHE CAN'T GUARANTEE TO FINISH THE SERVICE BECAUSE my hair is long and IF I WANT MY HAIRCUT TO FINISH SHE WILL CHARGE EXTRA!!!??? And, continues to tell me that "MY TIME STARTED FROM THE MOMENT I CALLED HER TO CONFIRM THE LOCATION!!! (Are you kidding me?!) At first, her justification was that I have long hair, which is an inclusive hair length on her $95 cut description.  Then she tried to justify an extra $55 charge by saying I have thick hair!!? Without even touching my hair or not even taking a close look!! I ended up declining her service. This is a very shady way of doing business with a very Ill-mannered owner who lacks any business ethics. I gave her the benefit of the doubt at each step of interaction I had with her and she continued conducting herself very poorly and unapologetically. RESPOND TO OWNER: I did not make any prior inquiry to you that you claimed to have responded to. I simply made an appt on your site and got a confirmation. Prior to the appointment, I received a text from you stating to go through gate B and walk straight back. Nowhere you mention your location is a residential place. So, you can't expect people to know that and feel entitled to be confrontational and impudent for such a simple inquiry. Your website states the time length, hair length, and type of cuts with a specific fee and you had no justification for trying to upsell your service with your poor attitude. You would certainly not be a right fit for anyone who values a respectful and professional manner, especially for a paid service. read more

This was my first outing since early March and certainly my first outing for personal services. I was nervous because it's a new space and it seems like everyone is taking different levels of precautions! Much to my relief, Laurel has an awesome set up. It's super clean, bright and airy. She met me outside to discuss what we wanted and then went inside with masks and all other precautions in place (which she emails in detail before you come). I felt really safe and thankful that she has been so thoughtful about how to make her space and service safe and efficient, but still top notch. Because of course I haven't even talked about my actual haircut, which I love! Might actually be one of my favorites so far. I'll always recommend Laurel for a great hair cut but I am doubling down on the recommendation for all the effort she's making to have this service available during such strange times! read more

Could not recommend Laurel and Hair Party enough! Her new space has an excellent ambiance and extremely clean. Since I am flexible with my hair styling I always rely on her suggestions and she never disappoints on cut, color, and conversation! She takes into account my bone structure and since I normally get balayage only a few times a year, she adjusts the styling so that it will grow out just as pretty as the original hair appointment. I've been coming to Laurel for 2 years now, and I won't go anywhere else! In addition to her constant professionalism, she has a keen eye for hair and color. She knows how to cut East Asian hair, which is a feat in and of itself, but she's also not afraid to work with it. Let me say upfront that Laurel has expertise and knows what she's doing with hair. However, what really threw me off was the way she was rude, inpatient, just incredibly fussy (probably the most finicky person I've ever met), and her poor style of communication. I asked some questions to clarify the hair service, and she just acted very annoyed and inpatient that I wanted to clarify. Part of the reason I was asking just a few questions was she did NOT communicate well and made me confused about how long the service I was getting was gonna take. Although the hair she gave me was fine, the whole experience just felt extremely unpleasant, socially. Getting your hair done is a personalized experience. You should be able to have a positive relationship with your hair stylist, ask them questions, talk through things when you need. I am not coming back to someone like this, no matter how good they are. read more
