I've been a client of Alexis (the owner) for almost 10 years now. She is wonderful but currently not taking new clients and her appointments fill up quickly. Sadly I had to reschedule our last appt due to the snow we had. I'm now a busy mom of 2 littles and needed a refresh ASAP! Very disappointed with the customer service of this place. I've been a client for 2 years and this week I had to cancel my appointment on the day of my appointment due that I tested positive with COVID and I'm 8 months pregnant which really made me sicker. When I called they said they were going to still charge the 100% service fee. I asked to speak to the manager, and when she called 8 hours later, she laughed at me when I said I was really sick. She even told me that she doesn't have to explain any further regarding the cancellation policy they have. Her name was Alexis and was so rude pretending that she really cared about my situation. I'm never coming back to a place who only cares about money and treat customers SO disrespectful. If they treat customers like this I can only imagine how they treat their employees. read more

Such a wonderful experience here! It was my first visit and I received a great cut from Sara. I have long curly hair and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I went to this salon for the first time yesterday and I honestly cannot say enough good things about it. As a curly girl with type 4 textured hair, it was a big struggle to find a salon that I felt confident that would know how to cut my hair. And I am so happy I went with coven. The salon itself is very aesthetic and cute, and all the employees that I interacted with were lovely. Check-in during COVID can be a hassle at many places, but I found coven's process really straightforward. I also felt very safe since everyone was masked, they had several sanitizing stations, and everyone was seated at comfortable distances. I booked my appointment with Dez, and I will definitely be back. She listened to what I wanted my hair to look like and gave me exactly what I described! Also she was very knowledgeable about kinky coily hair and had so much great advice. And as someone somewhat newly natural, I really found that invaluable. She was also very gentle with my curls during the detangling process, which was great since I tend to be more "tender" headed. My hair was pretty shrunken when I left the salon which made me worry about what it would look like going forward (since the cut includes a wash and style aka wash and go). I went to Coven Salon and had my hair cut and styled by Dinnie Danger. It was a lovely experience and I love my new hair! Dinnie was very pleasant to work with, they have a lovely demeanor and made just they right amount of conversation. They took the time to get a really clear idea of what I wanted. They also gave me tips on styling at home, and answered all my questions thoroughly without speaking down to me. I had high hopes coming in that this would be my new go-to salon, but ultimately the haircut turned out kind of lopsided. This picture was taken a day or two after my haircut, and it's pretty clear that it's longer on the right side than the left. After growing out, it's still noticeable, especially in photos where my hair is in front of my shoulders on both sides. Especially given the relatively high prices, this just didn't meet the mark for me. On the positive side, everyone working there was very friendly, and they have good covid safety precautions in place. read more

Wish I could leave negative stars. I just got off the phone with Dez. She was very rude when I was trying to explain my bad experience I had at the salon. She was short with me and cut me off. She is a terrible example of customer service. I was a paying customer with real concerns and she basically dismissed me saying there is nothing she could do. I was also supposed to get a call back about the situation but didn't hear a thing from them. & I don't appreciate you saying "its for the best you don't come back if our prices are not in your budget" I have money to spend that doesn't mean I want to be ripped off. She over charged me and then didn't own up to it, making me feel like I can't afford the service. She instead said I'm going to charge you for something else. I'm doing very well thank you! I won a gift certificate for this Salon at a planned parenthood fundraiser and since I came here to get it to use, I'm coming back regularly. Sara cuts, shaves, and colors my hair, we have nice conversations and I, as a person that doesn't like going to any salon in general, don't have nightmares coming here. Everybody here is super friendly and I really like the energy this place has with lots of talented and powerful women. I recently discovered I had curly/wavy hair and had a huge transition from long to short hair. By the time I found Dez, my hair had an undercut and had been through a lot of bleach. Jenna is AMAZING. I've spent years trying out different salons, stylists, and colors. I always struggled to find a stylist who understood my vision, and had the skill to make it happen. Based off of a friend's recommendation, I made an appointment to see Jenna. From the second I walked in, it was a great experience. The salon has a very laid-back vibe and an open atmosphere. All of the girls were welcoming (and hilarious). After offering me beer or champagne, Jenna dove in, asking detailed questions about my preferences, hair color history, and more. After moving to seattle in March, I found myself in the common curly-hair-folk anxiety of needing to find a new hair dresser after leaving my beloved one in rhode island. Luci spends her time chatting with you to find out exactly the style you're going for, and carefully explains everything as she's doing this (as someone with anxiety about haircuts, this is greatly appreciated). I am somewhat new to this salon. I have been to four appointments. I think that you wouldn't go wrong with any of the stylists here. They all seem to have their own little niche. I started with Alexis. She was great. I had to reschedule an appointment, and I couldn't get in with Alexis when I needed to as she books out far ahead. I made an appointment with one of their newer stylists, Ayla. Ayla is awesome. She can definitely cut, color and style my curly hair. What I really love though is how she does color. You know when a stylist just gets what you want even though you might not know how to perfectly articulate your hair desires? That is Ayla. I feel very comfortable in her chair. I wanted something fun but still work appropriate. She gave my just the overall blonde-ish color I wanted and a splash of different shades of pink/purple. She also knows how to change things up a little if you don't want to completely change your hair color. I also loved my blow out since I never do it myself. The time before she styled my hair curly. Someone stopped me on the street after the appointment and told me I have perfect curls. I never spend the time to make my curls look that nice on my own. The staff also tries to make sure you are fairly pampered when you are there. They have shirts to change into to protect your clothing. They offer drinks. They have a cute little outdoor area to wait in while your hair processes. If you don't love everything about your hair even if something changes after a few weeks you can come back in and they will fix it. The products sold here are Bumble and Bumble. I can't remember which line/s of colors they use, but I know they have veggie dyes. The price is about on par with most Seattle area studios. If you want a super cheap cut, this might not be the place for you. There is some variation on cost amongst the stylists though. I also usually find street parking fairly easily. Just give yourself a little extra time in case it is a busier day. read more

I am so HAPPY - I had heard about the fantastic stylists at Coven for awhile, and after moving back to the Seattle Area and away from a much loved stylist in Atlanta, I knew I had to give these ladies a try. A couple months ago I was desperate for a cut before heading off to a wedding, and so I took the first available appointment. Lucky for me - Aylah was open. She did a fabulous job with my hair, which was long overdue, wavy/curly/straight and is multi textured due to my allowing my natural highlights to shine (i.e. I have graying hair). At that time I talked to her about my crazy idea of perhaps adding some 'fun' color to the tips of my hair. Fast forward to today - I am in LOVE with my new hair. I didn't even know what to book since I don't usually color my hair - but the woman at the front desk, penciled me in and assured me they could do whatever it would take. Aylah did an amazing job of listening to what I was thinking about, adding some tasteful ideas and executing a killer purple veggie ombre to my natural silver streaks! Did I mention, I love it???? The ladies at this salon are so welcoming and wonderful, a very comfortable place to hang out and real skilled artists work here. I walked out looking worse than when I walked in. I have curly hair and was assured many time that they are good with curly hair. Yet, this was once again another overconfident person that has actually zero clue how to cut curly hair. She cut it way to short because she didn't take into account the hair shrinking when it dries. I thought maybe she let it dry badly and once I styled it myself it would look good. Unfortunately it's been weeks and not once have my curls looked remotely nice because the hair had been cut in such a weird shape. Please do not ever go here if you have curly hair.
