Anna is an honest stylist, and if she knows your hair cannot handle it she will tell you. I've gone from being darkest brown (close to black) & red on my head since first coming in 2023. This review is mostly for Sathina - she offers "Premium Facial Waxing" services at this salon. I've been getting my brow+lip wax from Sathina for over 5 years now (from her previous employer) and told her that I would follow her to the ends of the Earth to get my brows+lip done by her. She's the only one I've trusted for so many years and don't plan on going to any one else. This salon is located on the very corner of Whittier and 5th - I'd like to say you can't miss it, but I totally did. I suggest parking on 5th and just walk over. When I entered I was greeted by the manager Alex(is?) and told her that I had an appointment with Sathina to get my eyebrows+lip waxed. I waited in the front for a few minutes and browsed at their other services that they offered and I had a nice conversation about what I was considering doing to my hair and she told me what the process would be like for my particular hair type. NEVER... returning to "hair philosophy" again. If you could see my hair AND eyebrows in person you'd understand why. can't believe they were proud to let me walk out of their salon looking the way I did. Too bad I didn't notice it until I looked at myself closely in the mirror at home. As soon as I came in to show them why I was unsatisfied... before I could say a word, the owner immediately saw their mistake "we should've done this blah blah blah..." shoulda, coulda, shhmooda! I came in last week to do a light copper color (not my first time doing this color with my type of hair). I chose the color off one of their pallets. When the owner showed me the pallet TODAY she tried to say I chose a different color. Ummmmmm.... don't you think Id remember what color I wanted MY HAIR to look like? If your salon can't do it, why not say so instead of wasting 4 hours of my life paying for something I didn't ask for and not only that... it looks terrible! I can still see my roots, it looks like they didn't even touch the rest of my hair except my root area. my eyebrows are 3 different colors. I had to walk around for a week looking like this and they didn't feel the least bad about it. Unfortunately... my girl Angie at Jay-Zee in Lynwood was not available on this day to do my hair, I gave "hair philosophy" the benefit of the doubt and I regret it. LUCKILY... I think it's fixable but do you really think I'm going to trust this place when they allowed me to walk out of their salon looking like this?!?? NOPE. anyhow... she said they would "fix it" thanks but no thanks... I would feel more comfortable if I went to someone I trust to fix the mistake you admitted to have committed. she didn't feel bad enough to return my hard earned money so I can fix their mistake. that's ok.... I don't see another 5 years in their future. this place is a scam. save your time and money, don't let them suck you into their lies. read more

I was/am extremely satisfied with the services I have received at Hair Philosophy! The first time I went was for their Summer Friday special, which was hair color, style and cut for just $65. Since my hair was/is short, I didn't want the haircut that day. So they gave me a certificate for a free cut to use whenever I was ready. No expiration date! I got my hair colored a gorgeous vibrant red color! I will be going back for my touch up soon, but I got the color done back in June and it has still maintained its vibrancy! The next time I went was for pin up style hair and makeup. Oh. My. Goodness. I can't say I've ever felt more beautiful! On top of that, the pricing was adjusted to fit my budget. Both services were done by the incomparable Diana! She is AMAZING at what she does and she is also one of the most friendly people in the business! It is a refreshing change from a past hairstylist who just wanted me in and out of their chair. I felt so welcomed, and the fact that they keep cards with notes about each service they do for you (keeping track of the exact hair color, etc.) shows they really want you to come back. I will be moving from Montebello to the SFV in a few months, but that won't stop me from coming to Hair Philosophy. I have found my new regular salon as well as my stylist in Ms. Diana. read more
