I've been a Hair We Go customer since the pandemic. I especially appreciate Mr. Liu's dedication and attention to detail. He does an excellent job with my long hair and always gives me a beautiful, well-shaped trim. I've tried many different salons and barbershops throughout the Bay Area, but Hair We Go has become my regular go-to place. Even when I was working in Miami and Las Vegas, I would come back to the Bay Area and make a special trip to Hair We Go just to have Mr. Liu cut my hair. Zero stars if yelp would let me. The barber at this place is a joke. I clearly told him what kinda haircut I wanted and he acknowledged. As soon as he started I could tell he's completely off from what I described so I stopped him to explain it to him again. Guess what, he now magically doesn't understand English! He says something to the other barber(and he doesn't speak English either) and they're now both talking and laughing pointing to my hair and the hair trimmer in his hand! He then takes out his phone and wants me to use Google translate to describe what I want. He completely messed up my hair. I had to stop him to prevent more damage. I would've done a better job cutting it myself, which I had to do to fix it when I got back. No apology either, and the 3 people at this business(2 men and 1 woman) all seemed amused in spite of the horrendous job he did. $30 for a waste of time, money and energy. Stay away from this place. If you don't speak their language, don't even think of stepping into this shop. read more

He was exceptional in cutting hair and you could tell he really looks at every hair strand. It was very refreshing to have such a top quality and caring haircut service. Worst barber experience I've ever had. Was supposed to be a taper with just a little off the top. Extremely uneven and the back was basically untouched, it looks like a mullet... Barber claimed to have 20 yrs of experience and this is what he came up with. Not only could he not see the unevenness I was pointing out, he even started asking me what to do. My Mandarin is measuredly worse than a two-year-old's, but as the person at the reception responded "no" (...in Mandarin...) when I asked if they spoke English, I proceeded to fumble my way into a haircut. It felt like the most comfortable factory I've ever been in, where I waited for a couple minutes, then proceeded to have my hair rinsed, cut, shampooed, and dried in short order. My stylist glanced at the reference photos I provided and proceeded to create a reasonable facsimile. An elderly Caucasian gentleman was getting his own hair done and the receptionist/rinse station attendant tried to convey her intent through gestures, so I suspect that at least some rudimentary Mandarin will be needed for easier service, and if you have pictures of the haircut you want--probably best they're pictures of you with said haircut--then I have no doubt you'll be good to go. Hopefully return trips will be just as fantastic. read more

I've never felt so at ease getting my hair cut than with Mr. Liu. He's super skilled and doesn't need a lot of input to know what look you're going for. He speaks very little English though, so brush up on your mandarin, bring a friend, or bring a reference pic. read more

This is an updated review for Perm and Dye. Came in for a dye and small hair design. If you want a cut, the owner should be there. If you want a dye, you have to tell the owner and they will schedule this lady for an appointment. I had a two week vacation coming up and I always wanted to dye my hair, but I never did because I thought it was not suitable for work. I came up with a plan and decided to dye it on the last day of work before my vacation and then dye it back to black/brown when I get back. I also planned to get a "hair tattoo" I walked in the without knowing which color to get and the lady suggested a color and I went with it. She also asked if I wanted a perm and I went with it because I trusted her suggestion. After the dye and the perm, the lady also gave me a cut and gave me a small "hair tattoo" that I asked for. It came out really well. I received a lot of compliments and decided to keep it even walking to the office like this. I received compliments from a lot of ladies and girls. The only people that didn't like my hair are the extra macho-guys who thinks it is weak to dye hair. read more

This is by far my favorite place to get a hair cut! Julie is the best! I've had 8 or 9 different salons cut my hair before and they never get it completely right except this one! You should come in with a good reference photo and also indicate a few problems that you've had in the past. Everytime, they completely nail the look I'm going for. And the hair cut is always so affordable. Look at the photo for reference to my recent hair cut (they didnt do my hair color - i know i need to redye it). :) Tip: Their English isn't completely fluent, so it would be cool if you understood a little Chinese, but it's not necessary. read more

Made an appointment at 10am and I waited until 10:20. Two stars for the result cuz the color is perfect, but my skin got burned terribly. I'm feeling like someone put Tabasco on my head now. And I tried to contact with the person whom I made appointment with and ask for a solution, he said that it's not because of the bleach, I might got bit from some bugs, and I should wait till tomorrow and see. My family and I have been getting haircuts here since we were pretty much born. It's gone through some changes in the past couple years with the last owner retiring, but the new hairstylists are great too! My two sisters and I got our hair cute by Peter who was super nice. He's also a stylist so he'll cut in the way you want but add a little bit of his experience so he'll cut it in a way that's very complementing. The place is really cozy and clean too. All the staff are super nice! Note: you may have a little trouble communicating if you don't speak a little Chinese, but they usually have staff on hand that can translate. read more

The first time I saw this place was because my boyfriend needed a haircut. The lady (Yixin) was really nice about recommending books that I could read while waiting (i got a book about how this lady had tumors in her breast & recovered from the removal of the tumors), and was able to help my boyfriend look nicer (: The second time I came here, my mom decided my brothers needed a haircut and I brought them here. We were really lucky to be able to come here without making an appointment first, but you should still call ahead to make sure because occasionally there is a lot of people waiting for a haircut. Yixin was (again) really nice and was able to successfully figure out how my brother wanted his haircut, based on his vague description. Another lady helped to cut my other brother's hair, and she was able to cut my other brother's bangs to the perfect length, where it won't cover his forehead too much. However, I think that both of my brothers' hair would have looked better if they hadn't gelled their hair at the end (something I didn't notice they did for my boyfriend). Overall, my experience here was amusing. Especially when I went with my brothers when they got a haircut. When my youngest brother was called to get a haircut, the lady (not Yixin) double checked with me, asking "does your other son need a haircut too?" I was a little surprised at her question because I didn't realize I looked so old. Definitely recommend people to get a haircut here if they're in the area, since the price is relatively cheap too ($15 for guys & $25 for girls based on what I remember). read more

This has been my go-to place for getting a men's haircut for almost 2 years now. I usually get it cut by Peter, but I've had several other barbers here before and it's always turned out looking pretty good. I would definitely recommend Peter, but he doesn't know much English so it's much easier if you can speak Chinese. Even if he's busy, the other barbers are good as well so I would still recommend trying this place out. Total price is $20 for men's, which isn't cheap but I think it's worth it and it includes a hair wash as well. read more

It was the worst experience I've had, would not recommend it to anyone. I was in the area and yelped around, walked in based on all the positive reviews. One hairstylist was almost done cutting a guy's hair, so he asked me to take a seat and wait. The other guy was perming a lady's hair so he didn't bother greeting me, though he was closer to the door. After about 5 min, the hairstylist that ignored me earlier asked me to take a seat. The moment I sat down, he starts commenting about how girls should have long hair and such. I just laughed at it and told him specifically how I wanted it, basically just a trim. He starts cutting my hair and still went on nonstop about how I should grow my hair out, etc. I disregarded because I can't understand 80% of what he was saying due to his heavy accent, but mostly because his comments were getting personal and making me uncomfortable. He only spent 12 min cutting my hair and said he was done. I asked him to trim the top a little more (showing the exact area with my hand), his face looked upset and continues to comment how bad it'd look. Meanwhile he starts trimming the BACK instead of the top where I showed him. I then told him it was good enough (because he was making it worse), he wouldn't stop and just kept cutting, I had to tell him again to STOP. He charged me $30 for lady's short hair, which I thought was overpriced when he only spent maximum 15 min and was not listening to what I had asked for. Not to mention, he totally messed up my hair. I am never going back there, don't waste your time and money. read more

Went here for a simple mens haircut, only positive thing I can think of is there was no line when I walked in - looking back at it now I should have known better. The "barber" nodded me towards a seat seeing as he did not speak a lick of English. As I was listing out what I wanted he kept on nodding with a blank look on his face, when I asked him if he understood once again he nodded and said yes, then went to obliterate my hair with a shaver on 2, when I specifically asked for scissor cutting. Didn't clean up around the ears so less than 2 weeks later the haircut looks unmanageable. Honestly an amateur in a garage with an eye patch on could have done a better job, especially for $20. I understand that English might not be everybody's strong suite but at the very least, it is the job of the barber to ask if they don't understand. My bushes outside get a better cut on the regular. As for the interior, messy, unfinished, and cluttered. It looks like it was nice before the containers of boxes were stacked around willy-nilly. Do not recommend, youre better off with an $8 cut. read more
