We love Kim at Hairmasters on Alton. My husband has been going there for many years. She does an amazing job with his "fro" hair and gives a beautiful cut and blow, feathering it back. She is very communicative and sweet. She discusses any changes my husband wants and pleases every time. Prices at Hairmasters are great but we would use Kim regardless of price. I was recommended here by a friend, and made an appointment the day before. They were fast and efficient and when I arrived for my cut, they set me up with a stylist right away. My stylist (I saw a sweet woman named Anna) asked if I wanted a shampoo, which I declined, since I usually wash my hair before haircuts. I showed her a few reference photos that i'd saved, and she was very accommodating, and even made some helpful suggestions. She asked how I fix my hair most of the time and made sure I was comfortable with the new length. She was friendly and made small talk with me, and I was very happy with my end result! I was wandering around Ralphs yesterday... looking for something specific that I couldnt find... When a wild hair tickled me... and I walked a few doors down and went into Hair Masters... and chopped my hair off. Not really sure what made me do it, and at first I was nervous - there was a girl that worked there that was on her break walking in and out - and she had quite the attitude. The woman who helped me, who I never even got her name... did a great job. I had just been to the gym before Ralphs so I was pretty sweaty and my hair was a mess. She washed it and cut it for me... Worst hair cut ever. When I came in, I told the hair cut lady to do a number 3 on the on the side and nothing but scissors on the top. She completely buzzed all my head and The following week I was embarrassed from going to school and in the public. This also isn't the first time they completely ruined my hair and things like this have happen to my family before. And every time I come, they always get something wrong, usually it's small like it being uneven or a too long, but this time was too much! Never coming back. read more

Horrible! I went into the salon and asked for a simple cut and no hair wash, but they gave me a hair wash anyways and still charged me for it. Another time my brother went in to get a haircut and he just asked for a simple haircut and they literally freaking buzzed off all of his hair. And on top of all that the hairs were uneven. None of the people knew how to speak good English. They couldn't really understand me and I couldn't understand them that well but they kept confirming with me only these two things but they didn't listen This is not the first time that I've had a bad experience here. I've had a lot of other of my siblings come in and have the same bad experience. I can do a better haircut at my house and I'm not even licensed. I would not recommend coming here. read more

The hair stylists Layla. Did not understand when I told her this is totally the wrong haircut. I explained to her where she went wrong can you fix it? She did not agree she kept arguing the point that giving me bangs was a feathered look. I did not like my haircuts the shampoo was decent but overall the Styles sucks. Even after you tell them you will still pay just fix it because there are waiting customers she was not willing to take the time and fix my hair. And it is because of this reason I have to give her a negative star I can't agree though two of the whole shop because I only went to this one person there. read more

This was literally the worst. So I went in to just get a simple haircut. I was super specific and said no hair wash, but guess what they did it anyways and charge me $13 for it in the wash wasn't even that good. My hair was super uneven, and everything is overpriced. They chopped off way more hair than I had told them to. The manager was also extremely rude and the customer service was horrible. I had to wait for like 10-15 minutes when they weren't even doing anything. I've talk to all of my friends and they've said the exact same things about it I would not recommend going to this place. After having spent too much money at expensive salons in years past, I rely on this place for good value and quality haircuts. I got my hair cut last week by Diana, and she listened to what I wanted and looked at the pictures I showed her, while also giving me input on the best way to achieve the kind of low-maintenance cut I wanted. I went in with boring long hair lacking any shape, and left with a very cute shoulder-length haircut that has a lot of style potential but is also very no-fuss- just what I wanted. My tips would be to sign up for their email list so you get the coupons, and to also come in with pictures and discuss with the stylist what you want before they start cutting. read more

MASTER! MASTER! Where's the hair that I've been after?! The service is pretty fast and fairly thorough, although a bit chaotic. A couple steps above Supercuts, I didn't cringe watching the dude cut my hair. He was fairly confident and relaxed and he asked all the right questions before whacking away. I'm still fairly new to the OC, so I haven't found a stylist I totally like. But, I think I will make Hair Masters my back up for now. The guy who cut may hair was cool, but a little too chatty. But, being a smart cat, he caught on that I wasn't the chatting type. Ok I admit that Hairmasters is not Aveda Salon & Spa or 18-8, but if you happen to be in need of a good haircut and don't want to spend alot of money...Hairmasters is your solution. Just a word of advice: ASK FOR LESLEE GALE -- she's the store manager, master stylist and fabulous. Tell her that you're Michael Wu's referral, and she'd give you a discount. My BF and I only pay $10 for haircut and shampoo (paid $18 in the beginning, then down to $14 and now $10...YAY!). Another advice: call ahead and make an "appointment". Even though they don't take any appointments, Leslee will make an exception. If there is a wait when you arrive, your "phone appointment" puts you ahead on the list. Lastly, please don't be a cheapo; do tip her well. Regular men's haircut with shampoo is $18, and I usually tip her $4. read more

Min Kim is the best! He listens to you and cuts your hair exactly how you want. I showed him some pictures of a haircut I wanted and he copied just that. He also understands hair and has helped me manage my frizzy and thick hair. I have found that other stylists often do hair the way they want which is not right! There are 2 stylists by the name of Tommy working here. And it causes an endless amount of grief for their clients as well as the receptionist. The original Tommy has been working there for years and I have been his faithful client. Every time I request Tommy the receptionist ask " Which Tommy? The old Tommy or the new Tommy?" Or, get this one , " The Tommy at the front ,or the Tommy at the back?" I refer customers to my Tommy and have to explain how they have to designate which one is which. It would have been less confusing if the NEW Tommy had adopted. TOM as his professional identity . A note at his station could clarify and make it better for the customer and the staff. My review of the other Hair Masters seems like it would be stupid for me to come to another one, but I went to a different location, and I was much happier. I didn't have an appointment but still was served quickly, despite it being relatively busy. Yesenia did my hair and I was very happy. I just got a trim with layers to get all of the split ends off. This is a very friendly location of the hairmasters chain. I can be a nightmare super picky client, so I've tried a lot of stylists, but now I always see Diana! She's really smart about texture and knows how to deal with my happa Asian hair. I have a short cut, but prefer shears over clippers and she takes the time to be as precise as much more expensive men's stylists. It's honestly a steal the salon she's at is so affordable! I didn't even want to give it one star but I had no choice this is the third time I've been up there 3 different people and they always cut my hair shorter than I ask shorter than the picture this time was the last time this is the worst haircut I have ever had in my life I asked for pinks hairstyle what I ended up getting is a whack job when I told her that she took too much off the sides already then she started around my ears so either she did this on purpose or is she has no idea what she's doing either way this is not somebody you want cutting your hair her name is Leila Anyway when I went home and took a shower I noticed it was more gapped up once I got out so I got dressed and went back up there had a shorter Asian lady fix a little bit of it but she can't text much of it because it's already messed up I asked to speak to the lady who did my hair afterwards and ironically she had just left I noticed that when I walked in that she seen me and she went and sat down in the back away from me as the other Asian lady fixed her whack job that was only a 10 minute fix and then I asked to speak to her apparently she already went home for the day that's because she knew that she did a bad job read more

What a mess!!! In bring my 2 sons for a "standard" hair cut, boys cuts.. Nothing fancy just, short on the side and the back. The 2 persons were only focus on getting a lunch break that they weren't able to cut the hair at the same size all around. Different lengths all around. Over the past year I have had my haircut by a few people (the manager - Courtney, Rona, and Hoa). As I had been referred to this location by manager of another salon, I felt fairly confident that I would have a positive experience. My hair requirements are fairly simple -- shampoo, condition, healthy trim and go - No color, no styling, no heat. This is how I have kept my hair healthy for years. Courtney has done a good job each time I've had my hair cut by her. Personality - very managerial of both customers and staff (could be a bit more personable with customers) Rating 4 Rona, I was referred to when Courtney was unavailable; she also did a nice job with my shampoo and trim. Personality - friendly and seems to really enjoy her profession Rating 4 Hoa, I went to because I needed a hair trim before I attended an conference that week - Courtney was on vacation and Rona was out sick. I probably should have waited. Hoa barely greeted me, I had to introduce myself. She walked me back to her chair, told me to sit down, and continued to talk to her friends in the next chair (throughout most of my appointment). Then she immediately told me what the price would be in a rude tone, like this is how it is. I hadn't even asked her about price. Next she told me to sit in the chair where she proceeded to wash my hair. She banged and tossed my head about in the sink like an l old dish that she really hated and wanted to throw away, but maybe had to keep out of obligation because her mother-in-law who she hated gave it to her. And, she had the nerve to ask me, "How does it feel?". I bit my tongue and just said,"Well, I did need my hair washed." I was afraid to say what I truly thought for fear that my head would be inured or hair would be butchered. If I had time to go elsewhere I would have walked out immediately. When she cut my hair she told me how much to cut off even when I pointed to the ends trying to tell her multiple times that I wanted a little more off and commented on the fact that it looked uneven. Each time I tried to say anything, she would interrupt me and argue, so I left very unhappy and decided I would call to speak with the manger when she returned from vacation. Personality - self absorbed, rude, aggressive, poor listener, argumentative Rating -1 My recommendation - do not go to her! On a positive note: Courtney, the manager, heard my complaints and then she cut my hair to correct the problems (needed more trimmed off of the ends and needed to be cut evenly) - free of charge. Just okay, most likely won't come back. There are two options, you can get a cut from a "master stylist" or just a regular stylist. It's a $2-3 difference. Could you really tell? I'm not sure, I was cheap and went the $19 route. You get a free wash afterwards as well with your haircut. It get's busy, so either go early or call ahead of time. The reason why I am giving 3 stars rather than higher is because I came in for a little trim and I came out looking like I had just gone through Army boot camp. read more

So i recently just moved in to Irvine and in need of a haircut. I came to hairmasters today having a bad feeling about this new hair salon. And I should have listened to my guts. Haircut lasted a little bit over 5 minutes and they charged me $18 for it. I asked for faux hawk and this asian lady gave me a ridiculous hair cut that doesn't even come close to what I asked for. This is by far the worst hair salon i've ever been to in par with my worst experience at super cut. I've been to a hair salon that only charged me $12 and gave me an awesome service. It's called Glamour Beauty Salon in temple city. I would drive all the way down there from Irvine just to get a haircut. read more

Worst experience ever! I used to take all my kids here and they would always get it wrong! It is so overpriced also. I have so many horrible experiences with this place, not only did they completely make it uneven every time, they have also did it WAY to short on all my kids. They did it so bad so many times, The only time they did it correct, was when I was literally behind them , talking them through how to do it. Also I can't understand any of the English they are saying. I would be surprised if any of the barbers even have a license! I could do better. Never coming back! My kids have been embarrassed way to many times because of the bad hair cuts, they would even be embarrassed to go out in public. The only reason why I even came here is because I have to, since it's the only place near me, that is walking distance. After the first time they ruined it, I thought it was just a one time mistake, then after many times, I'm done. There is only one good stylist at this Hair Masters location. $20.25 for a haircut is kind of pricey. I've had almost all of them and most rush through the haircut and do a sub-par job (for evidence, see other reviews) but there is one master stylist who cuts better than all the rest.
