Now this was a first in my Carribean restaurant explorations over many years. Ya know, we tend to forget about Haiti because of flavors of Jamaica, Cuba, Trini, PR, DR and so on. I met some Haitian friends of friends in The A one trip, and I asked what are some of their main dishes and I was drawn in as she was describing the different ones, so I asked the folks that lived there (the others were visiting from FL) if there was a Haitian restaurant in town and he mentioned this one and was like "they're ok". That was good enough for me to try, so me and my mom went the next day. Upon entering, the place was kinda dingy and worn down, but it was smelling great in there. I was looking to try the Fried Goat (which is a way different style to me) but they had just started prepping goat and was going to be a while (it was 3pm...they'd been open since 11a...kinda strange), so I went with the Fried Turkey, side of Pikilz, Green plantains, Dumplings, Black Rice and Cashew Praline for dessert. So, the Black Rice I was really looking forward to next, after seeing pictures of it with minced mushrooms on top and told it was made with mushroom soup. But when we for our to-gos I checked to make sure they got everything and I went to smell the rice and it looked and smelled like Chinese fried rice (!). I was about to be disappointed big time, I was thinking. But I noticed there was a lot of traffic behind us while we were waiting, so that was a good sign. We went home and unpacked it all and what surprised me was the size of the Plantains...they were HUGE. Never seen anything like it. So these are the unsweet type, so you have to eat it with something else to flavor it up. Then I got into the China rice, which had green peas in it and took a bite. Man! totally fooled me....that rice was BOMB. Flavor was totally different from how I smelled it earlier. My apologies HCD! Fried Turkey: a bit overcooked but good. I've had plenty of fried turkey in my time and this one was passable. Now, when you throw that Pikilz on top of that turkey, it gets turned up some notches. That lil side dish is better than any country's side dish I've ever had (Mexico, Kenya, Lebanon, India). I couldn't figure out what parts make up Pikilz, but that's some real genius culinary right dere. But, you know what finished me off nicely towards inevitable Itis? That Cashew Praline....omg. Straight up homemade sex I tell you. No chemicals in this! The way they just have sitting piled up on a tray all by itself, is the worse presentation, but you'll be shocked at how fresh and sweet it is. Man oh man oh man. I'll be back for that Goat! I have now been to this establishment twice and I figured I needed to leave a review for those who like me are looking for a place to get good Haitian food! This place is about a 30 minute drive but honestly in Atlanta that's nothing. I have had the griot plate twice I ordered the baked macaroni, diri djon djon aka black mushroom rice, marinade (like a fritter), legume (vegetable stew is the best description), and extra pikliz. The riz et is exactly how I like it cooked to perfection took, the pikliz is HOT like spicy, and that's saying something cause I like a kick. A little will go a long way if you like spice if not taste it first (a little bit not a spoonful!). The man who is at the front is so nice (be patient as he navigates the ordering system and confirms what you want). They play music in the establishment and they have a tv. This is my go to now if I get a craving. It's not my mom's but it's better than what I have found I. The last few years of being here. I will say if you can call ahead and order do so, the food is fresh so they have to make it which could lead to a long wait. They gave me accra as opposed to the marinade I ordered but it was ok. Haitian food is hard to find in Atlanta. Good Haitian food is even harder to find! This was a low key restaurant that serves good food. I ordered griot and black rice and received enough rice for 2-3 servings. I received a normal portion of pork. The plantains were some of the best I ever tasted! The pikliz was fresh and spicy! There are not many Haitian restaurants that are close to where I live, so we have to drive a little way to find one. We had a go to spot, but they changed owners and the food has not been so good, so decided to go and try the Haitian cooking Depot. Now, let me start by saying, if you're in a hurry, this is not the place to go. We ordered two plates of griot, they are served with your choice of rice, fried plantain and a salad. I wanted to order a Haitian beef patty and they didn't have it. The food is prepared as fresh as it could be which is why there is a wait. The meat tasted a little fishy like it was fried in the same grease that they fried the fish in. The pickliz was very spicy, so taste it before you put it on everything to make sure you like the level of spice. My husband is very picky about Haitian food because he wants what he had growing up, and realizing that different people make some dishes differently, this would not be his choice for Haitian food. There is an indoor seating area and outdoor covered patio that is enclosed with a vinyl type covering. I didn't go sit outside since there was plenty of seating inside as there was only one other person dining in. The food is good but this is not a place of speed. We called in an order around 12:00 pm and went to pick it up at 1. When we arrived THEY HADN'T EVEN MADE IT. So we asked them to make it and ran to the store. When we got back, it wasn't done AND they were out of black rice which is what we asked for when we first ordered. I've eaten from here before but ONLY through Uber eats. It seems like they prioritize those orders more. Trust me when I say the food is good but unless your willing to sit and wait 40+ mins, order through Ubereats PLEASE. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. This place is EXTREMELY understaffed and they are in waaaay over their heads! Wait time for food is 30+minutes to an hour. I waited over thirty minutes and was never acknowledged and end up walking out. I know the wait was over an hour due to the fact that other people were complaining and walking up to the counter inquiring about their order.The man at the register literally left all of us standing in line to go cook! Hi guys ! This Haitian spot is the closest to me so I had to order. I got the malanga fritters and griot platter. The food was good, only complaint is that griot came with lots of fatty pork which I didn't eat. I never eat the salads that come with Haitian foods so I don't have anything to say about that. The rice was the best part in my opinion, so delicious that I could have it everyday. Prices were good, definitely will come in the store next time I'm in the area. I found this restaurant by mistake while out doing food reviews for my food channel my recipes for success. This was definitely a winner for Henry County. It was hard finding good haitian food ion re South Side of Atlanta. Growing up in Miami, I'm not easily impressed. South Florida has some of the best Caribbean food. This restaurant is family owned and the manger Thony Desir was very welcoming and friendly. The food was flavored so good I went back two days in a row. You must try their homemade Catty pattie's, Groit, Legume and mushroom rice. I hate picking out bones eating fish. But this was the best seasoned red snapper I've eaten in a long time. I called restaurant directly and he started telling me what he forgot to put in the order like I didnt already know that! The food was NOT appealing or appetizing or tasty.
