    House Special sauce Poutine
    Teresa H.

The house special sauce actually likes sweet and sour sauce. For me, it's a bit sour and I don't think it's good match. This price is also expensive.

One of the best Hakka restaurants in town, have been here a couple of times now and recommended it to friends and family. If you like your hakka spicy then they won't disappoint. Perfect spot for the winter nights. The portion sizes are usually enough to share between two. Their soups are great and must try the lollipop, garlic noodles and the Manchurian chicken if you are vegetarian then the eggplant is great as well. The wait staff is well trained and polite, the food takes a while to arrive but will be worth the wait.

Vegan Chicken dry (sorry I don't remember what sauce)

It's difficult as a vegan to find delicious meals at restaurants that isn't just veggies and tofu. They had mock meat for chicken and beef and I tried both. Let me tell you that it was absolutely delicious. The girl that served us was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. She helped me choose sauces and preparation, e.g. dry or wet. The restaurant is small with plenty of seating but could use an update. I would not hesitate to eat here again. Both of my sisters enjoyed their meals as well, and they're not vegan.

I highly recommend this lovely fusion restaurant. Food was amazing, service was fantastic, prices were very reasonable! A great place to have a lively conversation with friends and loved ones. As a Asian-American, this place automatically felt like home because of the decor, the variety of delicious flavours and spices. 1. There are spicy and non spicy options 2. Vegetarian and vegan friendly - so many delicious and healthy options, I need to come back for sure 3. If you're a TikTok girlie into zodiac like me (a raging Virgo) - fortune cookies and Chinese zodiac is always good fun! I always say good food = health and healing so if that's your vibe, you'll love it!

I was really looking forward to the food since I heard so many good things about it . Suffice to say it was a only middling at best. Asthetically food looked very pleasure typical to hakka food but the spice level was to be desired. We ordered the most spicy and ended up with the most bland chicken. Even the Szechuan chicken known for its spice was not spicy at all. Our waiter was lovely but the second waiter who we spoke with to express concern about our order accused us for not ordering spicy and that if we wanted spicy we should have ordered spicy. Suffice to say this negative service review is toward that lady . I would not come here again as the food spice was to be desired and some wait staff being very rude.

Our group at work had our usual eat-out Friday a couple of weeks ago. We headed over to Hakka Ren. Parking can be a challenge in this area, as there are numerous eateries. We parked closer to a rather large Second Cup and walked over to the restaurant. We got there at around noon. You beat the lunch rush that way. The restaurant has a number of lanterns, water fountains, a lucky cat, and Buddha figures. We got a booth and ordered the following items: - Chicken in spicy, hot garlic sauce - Manchurian fish dry - Broccoli beef with Hakka noodles My go-to Hakka dish is spicy garlic chicken. One bite of my lunch and I knew that I loved this place. The sauce was both garlicky and had a kick. The chicken was perfectly done. I loved it. My boss ordered Manchurian fish dry. He was impressed. It takes a lot to do that! My colleague got the beef broccoli with Hakka noodles. You get a lot of noodles! He enjoyed his food, too. Our server was friendly and helpful in suggesting when to drop by the restaurant. You can order takeout. I may give that a try down the road. Debt, credit, and cash payments are accepted. (239)

Hakka Chinese at its best. A small place in a plaza but it seems to be always busy. We stopped here for dinner and enjoyed our meal! The portion sizes are giant and food is delicious. Decently priced with decent service. Good choice for Hakka!

1/4/2020 I would rate this place 2.5 stars. I went here with friends for dinner. My friend recommended this place because she stated she went here multiple of times and liked it. We ordered Kung Pao Beef, Treasure Fried Rice, Singaporean Noodle and Vegetable Szechuan Rice. In terms of food, Kung Pao Beef and Singaporean Noodles were okay (I had better), the Vegetable Szechuan Rice was amazing (recommend!) and the Treasure Fried Rice was a huge miss (the crispy noodles did not mesh well with the rest of the meal). The food itself was not why I rated this place low, but rather the service. When we went, it was very packed. A huge line up formed right after we got seated. The staff was very pushy and kept asking us if we were ready to order when we clearly were not. Some time after we ordered, we got the Singaporean Noodles and the waiter stated the rest was coming. However, we waited a very long time before we got the rest of our orders. We were not happy to have waited that long. After we finished our meal, one of my friends went to the bathroom. In that span of time, the staff asked us three times whether we were ready to leave - when it was obvious my friend was missing and we could not just leave like that. I asked my friend who recommended me this place whether it was this busy and she said she always came at this time and it was never this busy. I would like to think that this was true - that the line up was something that never happened and the staff just panicked. However, it does not take away from the fact that the service was poor and the food took too long to prepare.

Wow. Just wow. The food was really good and the service is great. Started with chicken spring rolls and curry chicken spring rolls, those were amazing. Got beef fried rice and sweet and sour chicken and that blew us away. Will definitely come back here for take out too!

Chilli Chicken, Chow mein and plain rice(complimentary)
    Suhas B.

So, I ordered from here again recently. This time I went with the Chilli Chicken and the Hakka chowmein. To say we were absolutely blown away by what we tasted would be an understatement. My wife and I savoured every bit of it and then regretted not having ordered more. This was on par if not better than some of the hakka places we have been to in India. Having said that, we have ordered thrice from here. The first time it was outstanding, the second time it was okayish and the third time, it reached transcendental levels and we pretty much ordered the same or similar items so they probably do have a bit of a taste consistency issue. I have also heard good things about Chilli Chicken House which I would like to try but for now, this is the best Hakka style food I have had outside India.

    Chicken Pakoda
    Himanshu N.

My actual rating is 4.5. The ambience is good and so is the service. Overall the food is good among all the restaurants I have had in GTA. I will definitely be back if I am in Mississauga. We were group of 7. We ordered Manchow Soup, Chicken Pakoda, Chicken Lollypop, House special Hakka noodles, Schezuan Fried Rice and Chilli Chicken Dry. Full 5 stars to soup, appetizers and the fried rice. But 3.5 stars to noodles & chilli chilli chicken which we didn't like much. One oddity is that they don't provide the fried noodles with the Manchow Soup. We had to order it separately. Duh!

    Beef with Broccoli

The restaurant was very accommodating to our group of 9 adults and 3 children. We kept ordering food and they kept bringing it out. Service was excellent. Food was good but not spectacular. Chicken Lung Fung Soup - 5 - Very flavorful Chicken Filled Won Ton Soup - unk - I didn't try it but it didn't look like very many won ton. Chicken Pakora - 3 - Okay. The green sauce gave it character. Deep Fried Chicken Wings with Yunan Sauce - 4 - Slightly messy but very flavorful. Drums of Heaven - 3 - Good. Beef with Broccoli - 2 - Way too much sauce. House Special Fish - 5 - Excellent. Was supposed to be mildly spicy but I felt it was spicier. Cauliflower Manchurian - 3 - We had ordered it dry, but they made it wet. They noticed it before we did and offered to remake it but we opted to keep it. Next time, we'll stick to dry. Chicken Ying Yang Rice. - 2 - Either the chicken was cut very small or there was just wasn't much chicken. Flavor was somewhat bland and the dish was dry. Vegetable Shanghai Noodles - 3 - Not nearly enough garlic or veg. Note that this restaurant does not serve pork and one of our diners has an allergy to shrimp. Otherwise we would not have ordered as many chicken dishes. We're curious as to how different our scores would be had we ordered other proteins.

Shanghai Noodles. Partial image because everyone dug on before I took the picture!
    Dennis C.

First time here and no real disappointment. Very busy place even at 9pm on Saturday. The initial impression was so-so though since it was very smoky. They definitely need to work on the ventilation/exhaust system in the restaurant-or you can chalk it up as a more authentic Hakka experience :) The food was quite good. The portions were decent and the spice had a bit of kick but not wow give me the milk! The chicken and the fish was both quite tasty and cooked right. The spring roll was a bit watery on the inside but very crispy and not burnt on the outside so it was still satisfactory. The Shanghai noodles actually tasted a little bit sweet which is unique..we fixed that by adding a bit of hot sauce. We definite picked a good spot in Sauga!

The dining area, food stations and bathrooms were all very clean, which is so important at a buffet. They even have gloves at the end of each station in case you didn't want to touch the serving utensils with your bare hands. The variety of food goes from everything you can imagine at a Chinese buffet like sushi and fried rice to American options like burgers and fries, to surprises in-between like New England clam chowder and prime rib. Tons of dessert- hard ice cream, cakes, pies, fruit, jello, even Crème brûlée and waffles. One of my favorite surprises was the variety of mocktails. Most places offer me pop as a mocktail or a Shirley Temple at best. Decent pricing. Father's Day special dinner menu was $50/pp (Canadian) about $36/pp (American) which is pretty great for all you get and that's WITH their high tax. I believe the refular pricing is about $10/pp less. A must try only 30 minutes from Western NY.

They were quite busy with takeout orders which I took as a good sign. We ordered the Beef Sirloin Noodles level spicy and numb(4/5), Breaded Shrimp (5/5) Seafood Fried Rice (4/5) and Lamb Skewers (4/5). Beef Sirloin Noodles were delicious. The broth itself was not overly salty compared to other places we've been to. I enjoyed the addition of peanuts to this dish for that extra crunchy texture and nutty taste. The noodles were cooked perfectly. They were bouncy and chewy. The beef itself was good. Some were a tad bit chewy. I wish there was more bok choy. We'd also opt for extra spicy and extra numb next time. Breaded Shrimp was enjoyable. You can't go wrong with this dish. It was crispy, and the batter to shrimp ratio was decent. Seafood Fried Rice was good as well. Again, we liked how it wasn't overly salty. We were able to sense the taste of the seafood. I wish they added more scallops since we only got two pieces in the whole dish. Lamb Skewers were satisfying flavour-wise. We really liked the seasoning on them. It was on the chewier side but it was manageable. We'd like to try their other skewer options next time. Overall, such a good spot for affordable and delicious food. I'm glad my family recommended this place. I'd like to point out that a customer was being problematically entitled and rude yet the female server stayed professional. I thought she handled the situation quite calmly which I wanna commend her for. P.S. The restaurant has a sign on their door saying not to bring pets inside. It is a nice local spot to get your Chinese food cravings fixed. Their menu seems to be the same for all locations, the only difference being the price, all locations potentially the same other than the downtown location. See their website: https://www.congeequeen.com/menu.php and select your location. It has been a while since we have eaten at the Congee Queen outside of the Toronto (Dundas/Yonge) location, so we were a bit surprised at the price difference (8-10% difference). This location (Heartland Town Center) feels like it has the right price for the menu. With cash, you also get a 10% discount. We were here on a Wednesday for an early dinner around 15:30 - 17:00 and it was about medium full for the main area. People were coming and going at a good pace. For our group of four, we ordered: - B3 Salmon Congee $11 ($12 downtown) - H11 Chicken Salted Fish Fried Rice $18.25 ($19.75 downtown) - K34 Fried Bean Curd with Veggie $19.50 ($21.50 downtown) - K42 Salt and Pepper Squid $16.50 ($18.25 downtown) - K53 Fried Chili Turnip Cakes $13.75 ($15.00 downtown) Service was a bit slow, but not the longest as there were only 2-3 staff taking orders that day for about 15-20 tables. If you signaled for assistance, they will come. Once ordered thought, the food came out in about 5 mins and all the dishes were ready soon after. Tea is refilled on request, just ask. As usual, the fried rice and congee is what they are known for, it was excellent as usual. Depending on the group you go with, YMMV, but for our order combination, this usually works comes out at the same time and everything is hot and tasty. The turnip cakes are the softer type and they even accommodated checking for shrimp. They are usually good about seafood checks. All in all, great experience. With the discount and tips all in, it was less than $100 total at $25 per person. It has been a while since we've eaten out with a group at that price point. Will keep in mind to meetup at any of the non downtown locations in future.

So for a family occasion, we headed again to the Heartland location with its distinct high ceiling resembling cool porcelain. This place was packed as usual with a waitlist register at the front. We didn't wait long to be seated but the service and dishes were generally disappointing. After dropping off a pot of tea, no one bothered to check in on us again. While we usually have the super bowl congee, the exorbitant prices nowadays for porridge that we can make at home with a blender is difficult to justify. Instead we had Empress Fried Rice ($22) that was served like slop but was still nicely balanced between sweet unagi glaze topped with bonito flakes. We cleaned the sides to make it more presentable for our meal. The dishes that followed next were hit & miss on the seasoning. Sweet Corn Garoupa Fillet ($24.25) was served with the battered fish along side a cup of thick corn soup but lacked flavour whether we dipped in the soup or not. Similarly the Mixed Fungus & Fried Gluten in Hot Pot ($24.25) was also light on flavour despite being one of our usual go-to dishes here with good variety of mushrooms. While Stir Fried Sirloin with Rice Roll in Satay Sauce ($18.75) was quite savoury with a good amount of sirloin chunks but too salty. Skip it or hit it? For a $100 meal, we'll be thinking twice about whether to visit this location again.

This location is on the small side and the seating is quite limited. That said, whenever we come here Sunday afternoons, we never have trouble getting tables during walk-ins. The staff is always attentive and we never have to wait for much long for the food to come. They always ask you if you want water or tea. Usually also get a bowl of seaweed soup with your order (per person) though this time around we didn't get any. We ordered a lot for dinner. For appetizers, we ordered the braised pork pan-fried buns, which were amazing. The bun was really fluffy, and the filling was flavourful and just the right amount of juicy. We also had chive pork dumplings. These were also good, though I admit I prefer the pan-fried ones. In particular, our dumplings came out kind of gummy. We had some scallion pancakes which were nice and crispy, and very flavourful. Then, some dried beancurd sticks that were just the right amount of spiciness. Do keep in mind the beancurd sticks are cold (it surprised me the first time I had it). Finally, we had some honey garlic chicken wings. They fry their chicken wings really well, and they don't overdo the sauce which is great. We did have trouble fitting all of this on the table since we ordered so much. We managed, but just keep this in mind if you like to order a lot of appetizers. We each ordered a main. My boyfriend had the lemongrass chicken with egg on rice, which he enjoyed. I also enjoyed my Taiwanese braised pork. My pork dish was amazing and they cooked the egg really well. I was missing my time in Taiwan so I ordered the Taiwanese Braised Pork and Egg on rice. We also ordered Pumpkin Pie with Red Bean Filling, stir-fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, Juicy Chinese Pork Burger, and their Juicy Cheese Beef Burger. Everything was quite good especially the Chinese Pork Burger. The outer shell was so crispy and the pork meat was so juicy and was seasoned just right. The Taiwanese Braised Pork rice was good but definitely not as good as in Taiwan lol. Also, if coming here, you have to try their signature pan fried buns. That is what they are known for. We didn't order it this time because we've had it a bunch of times already. Overall, this restaurant always hits. It's not the most amazing food but like the name suggest, It is very home style comfort food.

Cantonese food is my favorite cuisine and of all the restaurants I visited in Toronto this year,…read morethis was the most memorable. I wanted to try Peking Duck and got clued into J&Y as one of the best options to try which did not disappoint. The Peking Duck was so tender, so flavorful and so wonderfully succulent. It was perfectly prepared and sliced with the fat rendered and thinly sliced. The wraps were not the monstrous steamed buns but traditional translucent wraps which are super thin, soft and pliable. Scallions, cucumber, hoisin sauce completed each wrap which highlighted the duck. Definitely the best traditional Peking Duck preparation I've had in a very very long time. The remains of the duck were used for make a duck fried rice and duck soup, again both were amazing. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! No gratuitous mushy frozen peas needlessly added either. Well seasoned fried pork ribs and veggies completed the courses I had, everything was truly wonderful and I hope to revisit again.

We went there for a pre-Father's Day dinner and left disappointed. This was actually our third or…read morefourth visit, and unfortunately each experience has been worse than the last. I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

I've lived in Toronto, Durham, Peel and I can definitely say its been the hardest to find goood late night greasy Chinese food here in the Port Credit end of Mississauga. I'm still on the hunt! Customer service here was great. I called asked a few questions, than went in and grabbed a menu and went back to my car. Called over the phone and ordered she didn't know it was me and asked if i knew where they were located which was nice. So My order was General tao chicken ( we usually get chilli chicken but don't like it dry, prefer the sauced up spicy, so this is the equivalent at some places), chicken balls, chicken fried rice, and chicken wings. The total was about 40$, which is fair and the portions were alot less to what I was used to. The general tao chicken was not even a little bit spicy, even though she said it was so that was disappointing. On top of that the breaded part of the chicken was extremely soggy and the plate was full of soggy over cooked veggies underneath. the chicken wings were fried and greasy tasted great and well seasoned. Just not like what I'd usually get from a Chinese take out place as it just looked different the way it was breaded and fried. The rice was in a really small container w under cooked pieced of chicken that was very slimy and white and the rice was very bland. I had to overkill w soy sauce and bit of red sauce. Lastly the chicken balls of course 80% balls 20% chicken but tasted fine, just nothing special. I mean it was cheap and last minute but i definitely feel like i would not have ordered here if i had known cheap or not. They have alot to improve on or mayb they are better at making other items listed in reviews from others. Not sure how they have 5 stars. but hey to each their own right!
