Vibe: This Japanese curry spot is relatively new compared to the Chipotle, Blaze Pizza, and Chick-Fil-A neighboring it inside the UTC plaza. The interior is very clean, nice, and simple, but I opted to eat outdoors with my friend since it was a warm summer night and the AC inside was actually blasting. The tables inside that aren't bar seating are directly underneath the AC vents, which make it feel colder than inteded by staff members most likely. Food & Drinks: The chicken was fully-cooked but still juicy, and the outside was golden brown and crispy. The curry was so delicious, and for the price of a combo, the value you get with the entire set (chicken katsu + rice + ginger + green onion + miso soup + curry + soda can) was great. I already said it, but it needs to be said that the curry was really delicious haha! Work-Friendliness: No outlets or wifi was available. However, bar seating looking out into the greeneries of UTC is nice. If you have a book to read or can do offline work for a little bit, then the bar seating is doable. Be warned that at night, however, you might see big rats roaming around UTC (which is not really within Kare Japanese Curry's control, but still worth mentioning if you want to dine outside at night). Getting There: Moderately busy parking lot, with the parking lot immediately next to Kare Japanese Curry being shared with Chik-Fil-A, Target, and Chipotle -- so it might be busy. If you're a UCI student, it's easy to walk over to Kare via an overpass from the flag poles. There's also an Anteater Express shuttle stop closeby for you to take. Service: Really kind staff! I was a bit confused with their combo deal. I misunderstood and thought that their combo deal would be the same price regardless of the protein that you get with the combo (chicken katsu is not your only option). So when I was going through the self-service kiosk they have up front, I took a little bit longer than expected. However, there was a staff member at the counter that was really nice and kind enough to patiently explain to me what the combo deal was. I really appreciated them since I felt a bit slow that night.

The old adage "You can't judge a book by its cover," is true here. This place looks forgotten, ignored, unassuming, but produces the finest bakery items in Orange County. You enter and have to immediately get into a line. Inside, it is like a aged cafeteria of your childhood. You have to wait for a young lady who can't even look over the top of the counter because there is so much stuff piled high. She stands on tip toes to see you and you have to shout at her and point what you want. The problem is when she sees you, you are near the cash register, so you must say excuse me and walk in front of a line of people to point and shout out what you want. It is so poorly designed and complicated to order. We all endure because like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, the product is worth it. They sell the world's best Olive bread, scones, and strawberry crossants. If you survive the line, you make it to the cash register, pay, get a bag and leave. There is no where to sit. There is no internet. They shuffle you through and on to the next one. The pastry items are incredible and worth the trouble.

What Cream Pan is known for, to the point where people call this a cream pan. Solid and I prefer their pastry cream over the whipped cream that a lot of places use. You can easily buy as a set. The more you buy, the larger the discount. It feels like it's gone through shrinkflation though. Also not as good as it used to be. Adzuki cream: 10/10. The hidden star of the place. Absolutely phenomenal. Great flavor. The whipped cream is slightly too sweet but amazing otherwise. Love the red bean in here. There's a good mix of textures. Feels light thanks to the cream. Cream puff: 6/10. Was disappointed by this to be honest. Other pastries I've tried like the one in the photo are just okay. Nothing stand out. Customer service isn't great. Someone cut in front of me and they didn't care. Free parking and plenty of it since it's a large plaza.

There was a small wait but it wasn't too bad. The store is in a small strip mall of Tustin. The parking situation seems like it can be chaotic depending on when you visit but it was perfect for our lunch time. The restaurant is very clean, everyone is extremely friendly and quick to respond anytime anything was needed, I ordered the Karaage soba set and it was more than enough food for at least 2 meals. The udon and katsu don combo my husband had was also extremely filling but delicious, everything retained their temperatures for quite some time. I really wished I were closer so I could come here more often

There were only two chefs preparing food for the entire restaurant, so everything can take quite a while. Unfortunately, I didn't think the food quite lived up to the waiting time. The udon had a huge amount of noodles but not much in the way of vegetables or protein. The curry was just okay, and the soba was also pretty average. The highlight was definitely the shrimp tempura--it was huge, crispy, and nicely fried. Service was okay overall. If you're coming here, I'd recommend being patient and trying the tempura.
