Look elsewhere. Not to be trusted at face value and read your contract carefully. They have to be the most deceitful company in the area. Workers were fantastic but OMG the company office and owner will deceive you all day long With a sob story. I did all the measuring, pictures, and comms. I had to chase them and then pay in advance for a possible day in the next 2 weeks. Other estimates come in and are literally half. I cancel and they try to charge me more than the 15% in the contract. i feel bad and proceed with them after the owner calls. Saying they had time, effort and expenses. Then say they had hired a crew for all day and had to pay them. Come to find out, I was one of 4 or 5 jobs for the day.... The work took 1.5 hours And they charged me for a whole day. Look elsewhere. From not responding to questions or issues... to not being timely with plans or estimates... just terrible customer service. They told us there were no set back or height restrictions when we asked.. except there was and we had to spend hundreds of extra dollars to try and get an exemption with the city. We also just found out they dug a hole for a post right where the company they hired to mark utilities marked utilities. They damaged the power feed to us and 4 townhouses connected to us which then in the middle of a rain storm shorted out.. Dominion Energy had to come out late night pouring rain to dig up our yard and the side walk to repair the wire damaged during the fence install. Terrible company to work with for customer service and shameful they've been in business as long as they have (43 years) and didn't know about set back and height requirements in an area they claim to be very proficient in! $5,000 fenced in backyard including 2 single gates and a double gate lasted 4 years before 7 posts rotted out completely. After calling HalCo 5 times in 2 months and speaking with someone in the office, an associate finally returned my call and visited the property to review the issue. They gave me a quote of $1200+ to replace the 7 posts that were 4 years old. They could not provide a reason why the posts had rotted so quickly, and he said they don't warranty materials. One other associate did call me during the 2 months I had been calling and that person promised to take a look that week and he also said that the posts their company installed where the concrete is above the ground were done incorrectly; he also never showed up and never called me back.  3 months after identifying the 7 posts, another post has rotted out also. read more

We had a new driveway installed which prevented one of our gates from opening. Reached out to Hal Co (whose sign and phone number was on our fence) for an estimate to reverse the direction the gates open. We also have a few leaning vinyl fence panels that we wanted a repair estimate for. After a month and a half of calling to get an appointment set up, someone finally called me back and set a time to look at our fence issues. The guy never came to the door just had a look for himself and left. Estimate came via email to the tune of $1900 to knock down and replace the gate and gate posts, saying they couldn't change gate's orientation. No estimate for the leaning fence panels. Called a buddy for help and had the gate posts re-oriented in just over two hours. Not sure why Hal Co would pass on that job, really not sure why they would lie to me about the gate. read more

Hal Co. installed fence/gate. Have complained about gate not closing properly and being uneven. There's a gap that widens going down to the ground. Gate flies open when windy. Hardware to close gate doesn't work. I've tried unsuccessfully working with this company. They never showed up to repair my gate when they said they would. I'm very dissatisfied. read more

Hal Co installed my fence about three years ago. I work as a real estate agent and have recommended Hal Co for many of my clients. I had a tree fall across my double gate and the tree was removed by the HOA. I called Hal Co for an estimate. They FAILED to return my call. I called a second time. My call was met with an apology for lack of service and followed up with a promise that I would be contacted within the day to schedule an appointment for an estimate. HalCo AGAIN FAILED to even follow up with an estimate. I called a third time and was asked to send pictures. I was given an over $900 estimate to repair the gate. WITHOUT HalCo even stepping foot on my property. The estimate was inflated because I guess HalCo has gotten too big and doesn't need the work. They definitely don't take care of a loyal customer who has sent them over 200k in referrals. I wrote the owner an email documenting my concerns leaving my name and phone number. He didn't have the common business sense to pick up the phone to address the concerns. Had I received so much as a phone call from the owner, I would not write this review. The gate is fixed and it cost me less than $100 and a couple hours. HalCo has seen the last of my referral business. read more

Hal Co really does amazing work. We had them install a fence a few years back that continues to get compliments from the neighborhood. We were excited to hire them again in 2017 to build our screen porch. Both processes were smooth and delivered as promised. From quote, to install, to final payment Hal Co demonstrated phenomenal customer service and superior craftsmanship. For our screen porch we obtained four quotes. Hal Co was the only company to quote us the materials and design we wanted. Everyone else tried to remove the finishes we wanted in order to lower the price. This was the only company that listened and worked with us to tweak the estimate when we wanted an extra upgrade, before we even signed a contract. They really we're wonderful to work with and I hold them in very high regard. read more

We just had stairs added to our old deck. Chuck was able to figure out a stair design work with the odd deck shape and our strange backyard shape. Victor did a fabulous job with detail. The steps are sturdy as well as gorgeous. All the corners where trimmed to keep the grand kids and dogs safe from sharp points. We are very happy with the new access to our backyard! read more

He was willing to charge me for the repairs, not honor the warranty. Be careful if you're considering Halco. I will post on a few other locations each time I have to replace my own posts. read more

Our deck was installed less than 5 years ago by this co. and has been stained/painted twice in the four year period. I called to discuss the condition of our deck in Aug-Sept and was told that the deck passed three inspections so the homeowner must be to blame for the twenty rotten boards. One board has a hole about 3 feet long and at least five others are not far behind. Professionals have come to quote repairs and stated that poor wood quality and craftsmanship are in fact what caused the wood to rot at an excessive rate. It is now costing us $30,000 to repair their work. read more

First review I think I have ever posted. I wouldn't recommend them. I understand that things are delayed due to COVID. All approximate here: I set up my first appointment in the spring and was told they'd contact me and be out in 3 days. I follow up. A few months later still no one. I complain. Someone comes out. I follow up. We play phone tag. Nothing for months. Call complain. Someone will call me. No one does. Call and complain. Someone will call me. No one does. It's a cycle at this point. It is now about maybe 9 months since I first called them, probably 7 mo since they came out. Still no quote. Still no fence or deck. I'm unhappy; dogs are very unhappy; son walking dogs is plain angry. Don't know why they couldn't have just sent the quote for me to review. The one thing I will say is that at least these guys aren't the only ones that are flakey. I have had a few deck people (private single owner type things) come out when I gave up on Hal Co and they came out and then disappeared of the face of the Earth. Only one company ever came out and actually gave me a quote on the spot. I didn't go with them cause it was a 68k quote. A little high for me, too bad Hal Co missed out on that business. Too bad for me cause I still have no deck to get down to my back yard and no fence in that back yard. I'm considering just doing it myself at this point. If you see a crooked fence held together by duck tape and Bobby-pins in Port Potomac, it probably me. Please just don't lean on it. read more

Mistakes happen but real reputable businesses own up to it and want to make it right . If I own one house with a fence my next one will need one too . It won't be with this company.
