Biggest down side is that it's so far! (I live out in Ewa). We made it a point to stop by after we went to Romy's on the North Shore. Coffee is definitely different here, but does not take away from the taste. It is a very calm coffee shop I went to work a bit and it was a very nice view. The service was ok, I just ordered my coffees and sat, no one checked on me but for this occasion it was ok for me as I just went to work for a few hrs and I was able to focus in peace. Charming "Farm to Cup" cafe in a stunning location on the Windward side of O'ahu. Hala Tree has been selling their beans locally for a while now...you may even have seen them in the airport...but this is their first cafe. The space is bright, clean and beautiful. It was very disappointing because we came from Japan and it seems like we were singled out for being Japanese tourist. We were desperately in need of an espresso, we found this serious coffee roaster with some delicious baking. Located adjacent to the Crouching Lion on Kamehameha Hwy - Kaaawa, you will be glad you stopped by. Not the typical roadside cafe or coffee shop seen in this area, they have gone above and beyond to create a clean, upscale establishment that appeals to tourists and locals alike. Everything is spotless, tables, bathrooms, counters - everything. Treats were tasty, our buttermilk scones came with butter and delicious homemade berry jam. Americano was flavourful and the coconut macaroon was to die for. Great veranda seating, plus a good number inside. You can sit and enjoy the waves as they lap up against the shore across the street. The thing about this is the coffee and the food was good! And the view is even better. The service was not great, no one working seemed to have any sense of urgency. They warmed up my food without asking me if I needed it (I didn't). It then took 10 minutes plus to toast my one biscuit. Three people were working and it took a while to order, and then longer to get my order. I watched them take my food on the toaster and it sat there for 5 minutes, by the time I got my food it wasn't even warm. Finally made it to the new spot next to crouching lion. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. (Grab napkins and utensils) they don't bring those out. We sat outside it was cooler and quieter. Our food was delivered promptly. It was really good and fresh. The bread tasted home made and the only complaint is that it was a super thick slice which made it awkward to eat. The small portion was more than enough for me. The coffee was okay. Nothing too stellar good enough. My friend did not like her truffle. She took a nibble and gave it to me. It was dense and not that great. The place is very beautiful and relaxing to eat and hang out. The food you can anywhere in north shore that is way better and cheaper. I would give them a better review but I'm disappointed to the server. They don't know how to smile and I have to greet them first because they just staring that it seems that they don't like their job or don't like to have costumers. So we've been to the Crouching Lion , but hadn't checked out the new casual coffee shop/bakery in the same building. Quick and friendly staff. Best coffee on the windward side. Def worth the stop on your way to the north shore. 100% Kona. My partner and I travel the world for good coffee and this doesn't disappoint. On the leeward side, try ARVO. 10.00 a cup, but worth it. Also try Curb. Macadamia milk for the win and great coffee. Tradition is the best in Kailua with Morning Brew a close second. read more

Great views and ambiance. Strawberry balsamic toast was very good (albeit a bit pricy but pretty on par with other places on island). Hibiscus lemonade was fab, our favorite item by far. Quite tart, just the way we like it! The matcha latte was the disappointing, it was almost mint colored as opposed to a typical grassier green. There was almost no matcha to be found, it was mostly milk and lavender syrup. Would definitely come back but would likely skip the matcha next time. read more

This place is a beautiful location and has great ambiance, but if you are looking for a simple level of service that includes a friendly face, this morning's crew isn't it. Do yourself a favor and keep going north for a more AUTHENTIC Hawaiian coffee vibe and go to the Coffee Cove. My first experience was phenomenal. It's been downhill since then, much to my extreme disappointment. If your employees don't positively contribute to the experience, at least make sure they don't run clients off. My husband and I were waiting for 15 minutes before they opened this morning. The blonde girl almost ran us over without a word. Not an excuse me, not a smile, just nothing. Then, as we waited, not a single one of the three employees present acknowledged us, but the blonde made a few trips by us still without saying a word, even after I said hello to her on the way by. They could have greeted us with smiles. They could have invited us in to wait. They could have done any number of things to make our experience a good one, but they offered nothing but sour faces and lack of any aloha. So we left. I guess they don't care because they assume that most traffic through their doors will be tourist, but the employees at the coffee shack up the street have been amazing, and their açai bowl is epic. At this point, I'm sure I'll try Hala again, but they are on probation for sure. You gotta have more than a good view around here because all the views are good around here. You gotta have ALOHA. I know my two reviews are polarized, but that's the power of great employees vs. sour employees. It makes a HUGE difference...at least it means something to me. You decide for yourself. read more

The Avo toast was good. The atmosphere is nice. The service was great. The coffee was Middle OK. To me it was a bitter South American taste. Not Hawaiin or African for sure. So Not particularly worth 5.50 for a small mug. No refills or second cup for less. But you pay for the view. It's really pricey like a plain biscuit is 5$. But Make sure you go and walk at Kahana Bay. Right around the corner Fun stop for a great view as you go North or South in the AM. If it's Kona it's not listed.
