Making a stop here as we're around the east part of the island and trying to get our caffeine of the day. Occupying a space at industrial-alike area, the place somewhat looked like a converted warehouse but did make sense knowing they had the roastery on the spot. We loved the huge and humble open space with warm-welcoming baristas who made intentional effort getting to know the consumers. We got their Macadamia Nut Latte as we're indeed on the quest of comparing this signature flavor from all across coffee shops we visited in town. Great news, we totally got the high rating Tradition got as their coffee was so aromatic and flavorful and we did love their house syrup! What a GREAT find! We stopped in here during a drive and were SO impressed by the customer service. As we were looking for bags of coffee to purchase, one of the key staff stopped to check in. He was so helpful and welcoming. He even let the 3 kiddos with us come back to the roaster and learn a little bit about the coffee roasting process. Good coffee roasters are hard to find in the islands, but there is one hiding in Kailua. The staff is friendly and is knowledgeable of the flavor profiles of their roasts. Although this is in an industrial park in Kapa'a Quarry, the café in the front is a nice hideaway where you can do some work, meet people, or chill. I personally enjoyed their espresso and their Lava Legacy dark roast. But they will occasionally have a limited roast available. Definitely talk with the staff to get a better idea of what kind of roast and flavor profile it is! read more

Tradition Coffee and Roasters is community. Over the years Brian and Lindsay, owners @ Tradition, have hosted coffee festivals, Friday pa'inas, multiple popups, educational workshops. I had the pleasure of attending one a couple of years ago. And I learned so much! Today, looking for a birthday gift around a Brazilian theme, came out to purchase a bag of their delicious expresso coffee beans. Was told that the blend contained 75 percent quality Brazilian coffee. Besides that bag, enjoyed a shot of their expresso as well as a cup of their house coffee in shop. Tried it both hot then iced. Delicious both ways! Have also in the past purchased great coffee making tools, including my favorite cold brew cannister! And being Wednesday, enjoyed for lunch the delicious handrolls made at popup tent just outside. The seared big island Kajiki handroll with jalapeño tasty. So was the spicy ahi handroll. Hands down favorite was the shrimp and Hokkaido scallop roll with jalapeño. Handroll popup usually setting up on Wednesday and Thursday. Will be sure to stop on one of those days again! Tucked away in the back of Kapa'a Quarry Road, I suppose it would be easier to just go to one of the many coffee shops that carry Tradition Coffee but then you would miss the great service and environment that Lindsay, Brian, and associates have created. This place is the best representation of Hawaii coffees I've seen in a long time. We were staying close by and though the drive out felt like we were headed to the middle of nowhere it was well worth the adventure. Inside we found knowledgeable and friendly staff with a focus on the coffee. I told the barista I like a lighter fruity coffee and she found me just the right style and made a great pour over. It felt super fancy with the little carafe! I noticed a coffee tasting going on nearby and it was clear they know their coffee here. Don't miss this place if you're in town. We were invited by one of our Sisters for a coffee tasting tour! What a great experience! Rachel the GM was AMAZING! She explained everything very thoroughly and gave us a different outlook on coffee. I would most definitely recommend this tasting tour. It was such a great experience! The coffee was great and eye opening based on flavors presented to us. This location is considered a 3rd wave of speciality coffees. It is a located in a cool warehouse in the industrial area in Kailua off of Kapaa Quarry Road. They have a little cafe which was crowded and had a steady flow of customers. Cute cafe with numerous tables for sitting in the front area and the back area for where the coffee action happens! They also have a private room upstairs that can be rented for small events. It can seat 20 people and can be rented for $60 and hour. My Sisters and I definitely want to return for a coffee date. We love the coffee, the place, the employees, and the ambiance. read more

I got an iced latte: lavender + honey with Mac nut milk. It was good. Smooth and tasty. Then, I saw their sign for the drink of the month and I had to try it! *lemon, thyme and sage (with oatmilk)! It was incredibly different, but so delicious. I love trying new things and the drink of the month did not disappoint. I'd been here several times before, but recently had some cousins on island visiting, so decided to do the tour and tasting. Highly recommended! Booking online was a breeze the day before. We went to the counter and let the barista know we were there - found out we were the only ones, so it was a private event! Had a lovely rapport with Rachel the general manager, and she told us the story of the roastery and coffee in general, including some stuff I didn't know (and I'm not new to coffee!). She picked three coffees for us to taste - Honu II which was a natural coffee and my favorite, 100% Kona which was everyone else's favorite, and one of their blends roasted a little darker - also very good, but not AS lovely as the others. Rachel guided us through the tasting and it was so much fun, bouncing ideas of what were were tasting off each other. I would absolutely bring more visitors back to do this, and I'd love to try some of their other classes/tours. She gave us takeaway cups of the leftover coffees, and I bought myself a bag of the Honu II before it even went on the shelves. After finishing a hike in the Kailua area we looked for a local coffee shop. Found this one by searching coffee near by. At first we were wondering where in the heck is this place as we were driving down a frontage road that didn't have much close by. Turned into a commercial area, and pleasantly surprised to find this coffee roaster. The vibe of this little coffee place was laid back , and comfortable place share a cup of joe with a friend. They share a space with an art gallery up the stairs above them. Aside from coffee, there was a selection of baked treats and lunch items. We ordered a cup of black drip coffee, they served a very ample cup by a pleasant staff member. Looked like there was available internet considering number of customers on computers. There was also a large selection of items for sale. We will be back when hiking in the area to try out other items they have to offer. read more

My friend offered to take my kid to her church on a Sunday so hubby and I had some quiet time. One of the best ways we like to spend a Sunday is to go to a fancy coffee shop with special pour overs. He did a quick search on Google Maps and off we went from Kailua. After a 5 min drive, I started inquiring, we're not going into town? (nope) We passed by the Kapa'a Quarry and kept going on the quiet road ... where is this cafe?!? We turn right into a small driveway leading into tan colored warehouses and I was pleased!!! The view of the mountains, the smell of fresh air and roasted coffee in an open warehouse. The beans were roasted on site, there were cute merch on display, some bright orange chairs and low tables --- it was perfect. We've been here twice now on two separate occasions and my first experience here is vividly etched in my mind because of that memorable Orange Americano. It's basically an iced Americano with a splash of OJ in it. I get my caffeine with a boost of Vitamin C and it tasted wild! This time, he ordered the special pour over and I had the Lavender Latte. Both were excellent and we started planning (i.e. dreaming) what our lives would look like if we moved to Hawaii, as one does when you are on vacation. Heck, we could go here EVERY SUNDAY. (That'll be dangerous for my wallet, but it'll certainly kick my Starbucks addiction) The staff here are so friendly and helpful. Coffee? I'm a traditionalist. I like it dark, big, toned, and flamboyantly expressive; like a 6'6" black drag queen who can kick any TPT racist's butt back to where they came from. Located in a warehouse space in an industrial park, Tradition not only roasts their own beans from across Hawaii and creates their own solid blends, they also serve them up with care to bring out their character. Their espresso blend, dark, with no hint of bitterness, finishes gently with floral with dried stone fruit notes. Single region offerings great as pour over with water at the proper temp to avoid unbalancing the final cup. The nitro cold brew, zero off flavor or flabby notes. Very good. Milky indulgences (lattes and such) on offer. None sampled. Tip: Have your drinks on site. They use a cool single serving sized compostable "box" that grossly changes the flavor of the coffee. Their coffee and roasted beans are so good! I always love coming here when I visit Oahu, and always bring home a bag of beans. It's awesome because the workers really know their coffee and can answer all my coffee questions. The way they roast their beans makes a huge difference. I drink decaf coffee half the time, so I appreciated their Swiss water decaf and their attention to detail with it. I haven't been able to book a tour yet, so I hope to do that on my next trip. It's a super chill coffee shop with friendly staff. There's easy parking in front too. Came to try this place as I was in the area and have never heard of it! It is hidden but has a beautiful drive in. The girl who took our order was nice. I tried the iced banana bread latte and my fiance had an iced vanilla caramel latte. The banana bread latte lacked flavor and just tasted like a plain latte. My fiance thought the same for his. No flavors came through in these drinks. My fiance went back in to ask for more sweetener in mine and the guy who helped him seemed annoyed and when my fiance said thank you the worker never responded. On a fun family holoholo, our first surprise stop was here and I think it ended up being the favorite of the day. Hawaii is the only state that grows coffee, but we also have amazing roasters around too! This is located in the commercial center off of Kapa'a Quarry Road outside Kailua; coming from town or Windward, it's an easy drive and easy to find with banners and signs pointing the way. Parking is all over and plentiful. There is an art shop upstairs, wine bar across the parking lot, and other places like a distillery and food options nearby too. We had a wonderful stop here. The front of the business is a big garage door that let light and fresh air in. The front half is the coffee shop, with counter on the left, and merchandise on the right. They have small tables in the middle and a big one toward the back for tasting workshops. The back of the main floor is where they roast the beans. Check out their social media and website for details about tours and tastings. The two baristas at the counter were efficient and fast to help serve. Later I talked with the one a long time about the business and coffee, chocolate, and beer in general, three things with a lot in common. They also have many special roasts to go, both whole bean and ground. If you're visiting Hawaii or live here, this is a must stop for any coffee lover. Our favorite was the HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A, organic from Costa Rica! Each bean is curated and roasted differently from light to extra dark. Easy 10 stars for delicious coffee (even decaf latte), ambience, and employees. I finally got a chance to meet up with my friends who had been telling me about this place. Upstairs is a really nice gift shop with lots of local vendors wares for sale. When my friends walked up with a Kupuna, one of the girls noticed and immediately jumped up to get a chair instead of having her sit on a stool. We love to see that kind of thoughtfulness! They just celebrated their 2 year anniversary and are in a space in Kapaa Quarry in Kailua. They do coffee tours which I didn't get to do but might in the future. They sell items from other small local businesses. Went with my hubs and parents on a double coffee date. Mom not a huge coffee fan but enjoyed her cold brew. She did not appreciate it in a to go cup. Especially bc we were dining in she would have appreciated a real cup (I get this same pet peeve from her). My husband got a matcha latte and it was actually really good. I got a Cortado for myself and it was good. Not all coffee places offer this so I was happy to have it. I get my love of coffee from my dad so we shared a pour over of their firehouse blend. It took a while, longer than I like but you have to expect that with pour over. I was disappointed in this one. It tasted weak. Maybe next time we will try it dip and see if there is a difference. We shared a banana bread. It was small but that was fine bc we don't need to eat too much. But it was good. They seem to have a big space but not a lot is utilized to dine in. That space felt crowded and cheap. That being said, we all agreed we would still come back to try more. read more
